    Instead of just carving - to get rid of the smooth surface - you can use rough sandpaper too. It's a bit messy but I personally find it easier to create more natural shapes.
    Cheers.

      You should work in a zoo to make these things for the animals and the reptile and tarantulas.
      It looked like a habitat made in the zoo’s. I mean this as a compliment.

    I found away to remove the black spray form for Vivariums. I removed it from my hands and nails by using peppermint essential oil and a piece toilet paper. I’m a big fan of your work and I have two Vivarium in the making right now. 1 is 18x17x27. 2 is 36x18x36. I’m so blessed and happy about your work. You know if you went to a Menards or Home Depot and bought a shower enclosure or a tub surround . Put a bottom and top on it and it's a huge terrarium. Water tight and predrilled for lights and hoses . Get clear doors or door and put a nice gasket around the seal and boom ..big ass terrarium ..ijs ..this is beautiful work man .

    This tutorial looks so easy to follow! I’ve been wanting to update my corn snakes cage for a while now, my brother gave her to me when he went travelling to care for but I feel in love and have now took her as my own. She is in a basic cage for now 2 hides a warm and a cooler side, aspen the basics but I’ve been looking forward to decorating a home for her that she will actually enjoy. So thankyou for this I can’t wait to recreate something similar 👏🏻

    • @steffanaarts-greven1352
      @steffanaarts-greven1352 5 років тому +1

      Filomena Clarizio you don’t clean this type of enclosure. They are bio active and small invertebrates in the soil break down waste. Mosses and fungi grow but regulate themselves if the temperature, lighting and humidity are balanced. All you have to do is clean the glass, drain the water from the false bottom if needed (not needed in the way he set it up) and prune the plants.

    • @steffanaarts-greven1352
      @steffanaarts-greven1352 4 роки тому

      @Aodán Compton you dont clean the substrate in a bio active setup. It can be left one for years. The microfauna, fungi and bacteria do that cleaning for you. All you have to do is to keep it looking nice but leave enough litter for the system to work.
      To drain the water you leave a small, concealed, hole in the false bottom to feed a small hose through (mostly done by a small pipe that pokes out just above the substrate with a small cap on it). You can then easily siphon off the water if needed. Some amount in there is needed to keep the humidity up so only siphon off to prevent flooding.

      @Aodán Compton this is not my viv so I dont know which values for temp and humidity it runs at. But is running just a few degrees above room temperature with a moderate humidity it shouldnt be a problem. A typical humidty of a tropical vivarium (above 80%) is too high though.

    How does this fair up to cleaning and the urine smell from snakes ?

    • @Reptiliatus
      @Reptiliatus  6 років тому +2

      Depends how big the snake is. If its a small snake in a large enclosure, I'd say easier. It's just really important to remove urates and feces right away whenever possible :)!

    • @marclapointe368
      @marclapointe368 6 років тому +1

      If the enclosure is big and has a good 2 to 4 inches of soil and plants , no need to clean. The bacterias and other microfauna that live in the soil will process the excrements. Unless you have a python or some other big beast that should stay in the wild anyway.

    It’s a naturalistic terrarium not a natural one, you literally crafted it and with man made substances. Brazen fool

    • @Reptiliatus
      @Reptiliatus  4 роки тому +1

      Bold-Ochir Batbayar liked your own comment, real classy. It’s my vivarium. I’ll call it whatever I want. I know quarantine is getting to a lot of people but find something better to do than insult people over the internet. The high is limited and your pride is fictitious.

    • @jihangirastra3851
      @jihangirastra3851 4 роки тому +1

      Reptiliatus yes I liked my own comment, I’m not questioning your right to call your vivariums whatever you want, my point is that it is factually inaccurate to state the terrarium is natural when it clearly isn’t, a better term would be a naturalistic seeing as there are many man made elements.
      I’m sorry if my comment made you feel worse, I didn’t think the creator of the video would reply. My fault for being rude on the internet.

    • @Reptiliatus
      @Reptiliatus  4 роки тому +1

      Bold-Ochir Batbayar your point was valid and would have been respected by me had you not chosen to take it a step further and do some name calling (calling me a fool). I respect all my viewers and accept criticism openly. It’s how I learn. It’s how I improve my content. I appreciate you writing me back and I apologize for being so direct. Appreciate your viewership and concern. Warm regards

      It's not naturalistic, no, but it's still a cool video. I'm building a naturalistic one. It'll take me a year to build because I'm poor 😄 but I'll probably make a video of it.
      I have a really cool, but very complex idea for it.

Your vocabulary is wonderful and I LOVED the video clips.. the blob! lol.. I watched that stuff for real when I was a kid back in the late 60's early 70's.. I have a 36 gal fish bowed fish tank in my office ( I have no windows in my office at work) and so now I would like to make a vivarium.. so peaceful and welcoming. I love the mist.. If only I could fit in there & chill! Thank you for giving me confidence.. Laurie O -

    Very good.A keeper in South Africa has done the same thing for his mambas.what he did to his wooden cages was to apply a tanking substance to the floor and sides.This made it water proof.He then added ordinary soil.Thus the soil retained all the bio active contents that are found in soil.He used a one inch tube of about four inches long which he made markings to measure the water that was under the soil.This container for the snakes worked really well.The plants had the perfect substrate to thrive which they did.The water under the substrate can be measured by reading the markings on the tube which was inserted vertically.I was impressed by this tank as the bio activity and moisture gave the plants the perfect environment for the soil which contained all the bio for the plants.Not sterile I no,but thats the point,all the bio and moisture,mini critters in the soil is itself a living entity.I like the idea of a living substrate.He was keeping mambas which lived in the branches to bask.He did not use any heating or lighting as the creatures where locally caught.The plants will grow up to be of a good size which can be pruned to keep them to the desired height.There you have a living environment,plenty of moisture,bio activity ,mini critters all working in harmony.That is the perfect snake cage in my opinion.This was a large container with glass kept in a place with a lot of natural light.In my mind it was a great idea with serpents doing very well.The joy of keeping snakes in a natural state without the problems of heating and troubles associated with it.Any way you are doing a good .I started to keep snakes when living in East Africa .I went there in 1952 and started my interest at the age of 7 when I was tapped on the back of the hand by a Bitis Arietans,that is another story.God luck.
