Archie has a point about having to go to court and lose a day's pay (or more). And Mike is wrong to call it a "little" inconvenience. Showing his ignorance about the working world. It's not a matter of them paying Archie to do the right thing but to reimburse him the money he'd lose by not being at work.
It wasn't just once or twice for my neighbor when he witnessed another neighbor being threatened with a gun.. He did contract work and never knew his schedule until he secured jobs, so canceling or postponing work became a burden--- only to find out the court case had multiple continuations. He bluntly said if he ever finds himself in similar situation in the future, he's not getting involved again. It's not worth it and especially if the perpetrator knows where you live.

Sounds like the "America is the best country in the world" crowd aren't fond of how it operates. If you witness a crime and are unwilling to testify because the system is trash, so be it... But don't you dare claim America is the greatest place around, and a critic ought to love it or leave it, as Archie often does.
You're much too presumptive that we're part of any crowd simply because we're watching these clips and posting comments about Mike's stupidity concerning the realities of the legal system. He was too young, inexperienced and at times painfully naive about certain aspects of how various systems work in his native country. For a full time, twentysomething college student who saw himself as exceptionally booksmart and enlightened as a result, he was still childlike in his approach to real world issues because every problem or obstacle had an obvious, clear as day solution.
That's just part of the TV watching experience, man. I remember when I was a kid, the re-runs would come on, the volume would be at 60 and BAM the damn medicine commercials would be 3x louder than the show so Grandpa can hear all the side-effects for Cialis.
I'm sure if Meathead had dropped a f-bomb or referred to Archie as an a==hole like Tony Manero did to his father on Saturday Night Fever, the censors would've shut Norman Lear down.
Archie was only picking on Mike because he was jealous of him because Mike is going to school to get a job and Archie had to leave school to get a job and help support his family. He sees all the things that Mike is going to be that he’ll never be. But it doesn’t give him a right to treat him like dirt. Instead of being jealous of Mike he should be proud of his accomplishments and find ways to help out a little
Edith followed Mike into the kitchen to explain after he threw a childish fit during a board game. I think there was more to it than just jealousy, maybe Archie didn't like Mike's attitude or losing Gloria to an adult life. Ofc, showing up for dinner the first time looking like a total slob didn't help. I sense Archie would have had an issue with any guy Gloria got serious with.
@@alangray9117 He didn't have sex with her though. All he did was go to her apartment, have a drink and a dance with her and they shared ONE little kiss. That is a LOT different than Gloria sleeping with Bud Kreeger, who was a married man while she was still married to Mike. Or Mike taking off for that commune with one of his students and eventually leaving Gloria for her.
@@ronfowlermusic Oh, hahaha i wasn't sure if you were kidding, but the thought crossed my mind that maybe you were joking! haha my god imagine Edith in the AC/DC? that would be hilarious! and many people would have cramps from laughing so hard! 🤣
Yes, Archie is very rude and hurtful to him. Never gives him a chance even when he’s trying to be positive and help. That’s just one thing about his character I did not like.😢
If Mike was a witness in court he would probably fight for a lighter sentence for the mugger

I laugh when Meathead called Archie a dumb Pollock! LOL!
It's not funny because it makes no sense since Archie isn't Polish

SO TRUE! He and Gloria annoy me with their pinko views! Archie is always RIGHT! Grew up with hiim! Kim

My all time favorite All in the Family episode amongst many. Hysterical.

Mike was Always so Disrespectful Towards Archie
Respect works both ways!
Archie was disrespectful to him as well

You got the first part of that from the one episode where Edith explains all that to Mike.
@@retroguy9494 I might have but it’s true
@@mirandavinci4146 Yes, it's true. Because Edith explained it all to Mike in one episode!

I always wondered why they couldn't do there fighting after the meal instead of during. Letting there meals get cold.
You have a point! haha and just a little correction if you don't mind? it's not spelled THERE, it's really spelled THEIR.
