Right or wrong, left or right - you cannot deny that the writing on this show was phenomenal, skillfully touching on controversial subjects that affect everyone. I remember watching this show when I was growing up - laughing at even that young age, at the antics of everyone. Watching it now, and comparing it to the writing in what passes for tv/movies these days - you can truly appreciate the skill and genius of the writers at that time.
It was originally supposed to be just a foil for Hollywood left wing propaganda, making the conservative into a clown. But Carol O'Conner made the character so likable that the audience dug through the foolish dialog to his true meaning. Basically, it backfired on Hollywood... much like the Alex P Keating character on Family Ties.

The point of the 2nd amendment originally was to ensure that militias could be armed and maintained when called upon, both state and federal. At the time National Guard didn't exist and many were still skeptical about a standing army. The interpretation of the 2nd amendment to include self-defense occurred much, much, much later, and there has never been a legal interpretation by judicial review that the 2nd amendment provides a means to overthrow the government, in fact many places in the constitution make it very clear that it's unacceptable and has to be stopped. The 2nd amendment might be the most commonly misunderstood constitutional amendment, though the 1st amendment is up there too since so many don't understand what "free speech" means.

@@wrigleyville Norman Lear is an absolute comical sitcom genius. He went into unchartered water with all in the family. No TV writer and producer had ever dared to make fun of the American racist. Norman Lear showed with brilliant comedy what an absolute imbecile the American racist is. At the same time Archie had that teddy bear side of his character that didn't ever mean any harm. Norman Lear is almost 100 years old now and I watch his podcast all the time. I'm just glad that as a kid growing up in the mid to late 80's my dad subjected me to reruns of that brilliant masterpiece of a TV sitcom.

MAGA Republicans, today, would align with Archie in many of his views (not all of his views).

Plate glass is extremely sharp. I watched my step brother fall into a window with plate glass and it cut him deep up both of his arms. He required a blood transfusion and over 40 stitches to stop the bleeding. If we hadn’t have wrapped his arms in a towel he would’ve died on the way to the hospital. And it was a singles story house.

The problem isn't with people who believe there should be limitations on gun ownership and use, since any reasonable person would agree that everything needs to have limitations within reason. People without guns cannot kill someone by using a gun. Do the math. The NRA states that your odds of needing a gun for self defense are, pay attention, essentially ZERO. Just owning a gun increases the odds of you or a family member being shot and/or killed by that gun by over 400%.

The point of the 2nd amendment originally was to ensure that militias could be armed and maintained when called upon, both state and federal. The interpretation of the 2nd amendment to include self-defense occurred much, much, much later, and there has never been a legal interpretation by judicial review that the 2nd amendment provides a means to overthrow the government, in fact many places in the constitution make it very clear that it's unacceptable and has to be stopped. The 2nd amendment might be the most commonly misunderstood constitutional amendment, though the 1st amendment is up there too since so many don't understand what "free speech" means.

Norman Lear is almost 100 years old now and I watch his podcast all the time. Plate glass is extremely sharp. I watched my step brother fall into a window with plate glass and it cut him deep up both of his arms. He required a blood transfusion and over 40 stitches to stop the bleeding. If we hadn’t have wrapped his arms in a towel he would’ve died on the way to the hospital. And it was a singles story house.

So long as it is properly secured and maintained, it will not go off accidentally, therefore it requires some intelligence to fire it. I've never seen a rifle, handgun, shotgun or any other type of gun that can pull its own trigger.
People without guns cannot kill someone by using a gun. Do the math. The NRA states that your odds of needing a gun for self defense are, pay attention, essentially ZERO. Just owning a gun increases the odds of you or a family member being shot and/or killed by that gun by over 400%.
