The look on Archie’s face when Mike says “that’s Maryln Sanders” is priceless.
Oh, how dare he not know his son existed. I know, it turns out Danny isn’t Mike’s son, but still, finding out you had a son you didn’t know existed isn’t something they can be angry at him about.
That actress also played Maude's daughter Carol in the regular episode of AITF
The skits were so well written, fast moving and executed so well by great actors with lots of chemistry.

I made my 30 year old watch this and he couldn't believe a show like this was on primetime!
Tell him those were the days when people said what they felt- MY childhood and I grew up with Archie since I was seven years old and LOVE Archie and he is RIGHT!

@@lorrainem8234 It wasn't. The mom said she dropped him off at the Bunkers because she was starting a new relationship and didn't want to tell the new guy about the boy until later on. She knew Mike and had seen him and Gloria together and thought they looked sweet together.

So he’s the villain if he didn’t know his son EXISTED? Very flawed logic on your part. If Mike knew he had a son but abandoned him then THAT would be a valid reason, but that’s not the case.

Marcia Rodd played three different roles in this series. In addition to Mike's ex-girl friend, she portrayed Maude's daughter Carol (to be replaced by Adrienne Barbeau in the Maude series), and much later on in Archie Bunker's Place, a real estate lady who offers to sell Archie's house shortly after the death of Edith.

Marcia Rodd also played Ann Romano’s best friend in the unaired pilot of One Day at a Time. As with Maude, Rodd was dropped when the show went to series. But the Norman Lear casting people sure liked her.
I caught the different Maude daughter in the episode where Archie and Edith go to Maude’s for the weekend for the Bridal Shower.

Right kid wasn’t Mike’s but the ex’s girlfriend husbands. The ex girlfriend left him there cause she had a date and the last guy dumped her because she had a child so she hoped this date would be with a good guy who liked kids that she could eventually marry..
It was absolutely reckless of her to do that, even if she knew who Mike was.
And random, who realizes on their ex to watch their kid?

There is no person who ever existed that can claim to never have committed an impure thought, word, or deed in his or her lifetime.
I know it ultimately wasn’t Mike’s son, but even if he were, him not knowing he even HAD a son isn’t something to attack him for.

LOL, 2023 mentality applied to a 1970's sitcom. Just in case you weren't sure, this was just a TV show, not reality.
@niklass1641 Decent people would not have talked in front of the child in that way in the 1960's or 70's.
This was one of the weirdest episodes of the series and clips from it pop up here on occasion. Under every one of them, the question of what sort of mother would ditch her son at the home of long ago sex partner gets posted. Hard to believe Marilyn had no relatives, friends, neighbors, or coworkers to leave the child with. I still don't know what the writers' were thinking because Marilyn sure as hell didn't explain herself well when she came back. Odd episode.

I wouldn't mind at all,if my partner turned out to be the dad of a child/adult who was concieved BEFORE we got together! I'd welcom the child and I'd even find it quite exciting! My biggest worries would be how everybody else would handle it...
That’s what annoyed me about this episode. They act like Mike knew and abandoned his son when in reality he didn’t even know he existed. I know the boy ultimately wasn’t Mike’s son, but Archie’s attitude about the situation and towards that little boy was atrocious.
I sure wouldn't want my partner's kid from a previous relationship/marriage dropped into our lives. Not to mention the ex. Exit time for me. Great episode, though.
@@sxwrtr918 But it is a huge difference if the kid was from before we met and the husband had no idea. I mean, the husband and wife would both start from point zero with him/her!

I hear what you're saying, but no sale for me/us. We are adamantly child-free for our lives and would not change that. Plus, past entanglements and their consequences (though unbeknownst to the other party) are best left in the past and a current partner/spouse should not be expected to embrace, out of the blue, anything associated with it. Had a friend to whom that happened years ago, nine years into their marriage. He had no idea this kid existed. They already had one kid. Ended up divorced.

Well I guess this is different for different people, I would not care to get involved with a man with kids, he has a past with them that I am not part of, but if an unknown child/teenager suddenly appeared on our doorstep it would be a new chapter for both of us, and I would be okey with that! Butvyes, I can understand how someone would NOT be okay with it.

Gloria tells Mike that if Danny actually is his son, he is THIER responsibility, not just his. Marilyn comes back and reveals that Mike isn’t his father, but that she brought him there to try getting things going with a man she met, she felt Mike and Gloria would be good to him for the time being, because her boyfriends kept jumping ship upon learning she was a single mother, as her ex-husband and the boy’s father abandoned them. Flawed logic, I know, but back in this time mothers needed support with their children.
I hated the way Archie talked about that boy, calling him a mistake. Such a horrible thing to say about and to a child.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I don't see what Mike did wrong.
