@@danielllewellyn3166 Do you really love lamp?
@@phonkey I love lamp. I love lamp.
Hands down, Theo Katzman is one of the best lamp players of this generation
Iunno. He looks like he's struggling.
Not even the best lamp player in vulfpeck. jkjk I love Theo too.
One of the best in his age bracket.
Word.
Yeah. Really lights up the groove, don't it?
When I heard this for the first time, I divorced my wife, sold all my possessions, took all my money and bought 3 things, a bass, an amp, and a trailer. I have been living thusly, in the deep of the most forgotten woods, naked, playing funk bass non stop, 24/7, for the past 7 years. I emerge only now, once, to post this singular message, before I return to the bass. I regret nothing. *Nothing*.
LOL classic!
That guy in the trailer is a legend in my town. Deep in the night, the rumblings of the funkiest bass lines gently stir the mist laden air. Swirling patterns of sound and vibration rhythmically emminate almost constantly and on the rare occasions where he stops to sleep, a silent panic begins to wash over the town, fear that he may not restart. Weekly tributes of food, clothing, water are left by his door, but only the most basic and essential are ever taken inside. Grains, water, simple vegtables - anything more modern than that is rejected in sacrifice to the pursuit of the purest and deepest funk. Some say it is the bass itself which sustains him, others believe that he and the bass have merged to the point where the difference is inconsequential, he thinks in sound and lives solely as bass.. soon we expect him to transcend physical form and transmute literally into the deepest bass frequencies possible, whereupon he will travel to the very core of the earth and the entire planet will vibrate outwardly from within with nothing but soul cleansing purified funk...
Vulf fanss....have they a name?

Every time you think Joe Dart is about to miss a beat, he puts it in the pocket in the pocket in the back pocket.
Benjamin Feddersen you should be the top comment
Joe Dart IS the pocket.
The pocket is Joe Dart
Honestly I don’t ever expect joe dart to miss a beat
I’ve practiced so many hours trying to be able to play his 1/4 as tight as he can
Bassist and guitarist are so tight you could put a piece of coal between them and by the end of the track it would be a diamond.
Is that actually true?
They clearly aligned their playing with the beat in editing

@@timecat1174 it may seem like its the same but if you put the audio into a daw, it shows you were each beat happens relative to the song and even though they are professional musicians it doesn't allign
It’s inspired by the Weather Report song “Teen Town”, in which Jaco Pastorius recorded the bass and snare drum separately from the high hat and the bass line was doubled by synth player’s left hand… just like this song
great catch i can hear it
Very cool. I just heard this for the first time today, but I go back to Jaco and Pat Metheny

I'm a drummer and I immediately noticed that the layer drum beat parts shared by the two drummers here is replicable by one single drummer. That said, their choice of sharing the work load thus securing a consistent quality of the parts , for example the bass drum foot might have slight frequency inconsistencies if played by one drummer but here the guy plays it with his lead right hand which is the hand most practiced by most drummers. Also, the choice showed a care and personal investment in the final production as two drummers sharing a one drummer part is always going to sound better by virtue of keen attention to specific parts. The real skill here then though is the cohesion both drummers have with each other. Infact and honestly speaking the two together have better cohesion than my four limbs do together despite my limbs reporting only to one mind, mine! Music isn't always what you hear. It's the invention, the choices, the values and many more deeper aspects of the performers in question. The band are killer but I wanted to talk about the drum part for this thread
The choice of using two drums is by design, since this song is a homage to teen town, where they also use two drummers and the synth follows the bass lines on its lower register
It’s also important that the bass drum is being hit with a mallet instead of a kick.

This was my very first Vulfpeck experience. I discovered them a few years ago, only because I was a fan of Wintergatan and had heard Martin talking about them back when he was starting on the MMX. Eventually I cracked and just searched “Vulfpeck” and clicked on the top result. Now here I am three years later and these guys have not once ceased to be my favorite band!
Interesting how their whole band is a rhythm section.
That`s funk in a nutshell. But it`s really cool ı think
What makes a band great is the strength of their rhythm section, you can’t change my mind
Jared Spicer you can have the most beautiful melody in the world but if your drummer and bassist can’t keep time it’s useless.

Yo Joe Dart is absolutely ruthless on the bass but Theo independently doing those upbeats on the high hat and maintaining tempo without slipping is very impressive too
That stuff is apparently my party trick as a drummer, disco/house hihat stuff! I never thought much about it, but I’ve noticed it seems to impress the musicians I play with! Theo is a complete GAWD on every instrument he gets his hands on though, vocals very much included!

Yeah, I remember it from when I was jamming with friends. Sometimes I miss those days and that little detail in the video triggered my memory. The first time I noticed it in a studio album though, was when I first heard the "Tempel' album by Colour Haze. They used to do full-band recordings in the recording room and not separate instruments.
All Jimi Hendrix recordings are made like these, so you can always hear the snare vibrating
