  • Back in the Spring over on Patreon, we teased that a full review of this rifle was coming sooon. Well that turned into about half a year, but finally we were able to get out to the range with this new for 2022 import from Poland. This is the WBP Jack-556 rifle, chambered (not surprisingly) for 5.56x45mm NATO (.223 Rem).
    AKs in the Western/American caliber have always had a mixed reputation, so how will this one actually perform? Here we try it out with a few different types of ammo and magazine brands. Also we brought my trusty old FB-Radom Beryl/Archer Wz.96C rifle out for some comparisons too.
    So which did we prefer? The more traditional classic WBP or the modern tactical FB-Radom? How did they cycle? Who has the faster trigger finger, Misha or Bootch? Where did Jroe's pants go anyway? All these questions and more will be answered...right now!

      Congrats, I was going to get a Jack a few months ago, however I decided to get a m90 Because I was tired of waiting. AOA still got them on stock for almost a full month now lol. I prefer the Jack due to the lighter weight of 6.5 and the fact that I like Polish guns. Another huge plus is the cheap magazines and east available. I got mine for 14 dollars, and I live in California. They Dont make ten rounds of magazines for the m90. I got just brought two AC mags for 22 dollars each. It is a pain in the ass forcing the breaking the WBP magazines into the m90.

    I think I would be all over the 5.56 jack if I didn't have the zavasta m85 and m90. I really love the fox ak and feel blessed to have it and the rail. I like that set-up very much. One day may add adjustable piston as the fox is somewhat over gassed. It's not causing any problems just would be even smoother with kn. My wasr10 east german was sending cases into stratosphere no more. Great video. Thanks.

    • @cajuncatfish5417
      @cajuncatfish5417 Рік тому

      I hear people say the Jack/Fox is overgassed, but I don't get it, really. Can you qualify what you mean based against other AKs? Between Russian (SGL and Vepr FM), Bulgarian (SLR107F, SA93, and SAM7R), and Polish (Jack), I can't detect any sizeable difference in gassing between any of them, even when trying similar muzzle devices with them. The softest shooting are my Vepr FMs, but that I attribute mostly to the increased weight both overall and in the heavy barrel profile. In any case, I haven't found enough difference to make a difference. Compared to an AR, yes, sure the AK is overgassed, as it was designed to be. The HK416/M27 was designed to be as well. That's what makes all these rifles so reliable in all conditions.
      WBP has confirmed on AKfiles that they haven't changed their gas port size since the very beginning.

    • @nedanschutz
      @nedanschutz Рік тому

      @@cajuncatfish5417 I'm not making any real comparisons between any particular rifle. I was just making an observation. My wasr10 was severely overgased. Nothing wrong with that. I tried a kns piston adjusted it and found it much more pleasurable to shoot. I had put around 1k rounds through the fox I have and was impressed with its smooth bolt. After 1k rounds with adjusted wasr10 I shot the fox again and noticed a more abrupt recoil impulse than the wasr10. That's all just an observation. My opinion is that it would also be more enjoyable to shoot and stay on target better with adjusted gas. Don't misunderstand my comments, I love the fox everything about it fit finish etcetera. It can be improved, same vein as added rail a PA prism sight from akoustore. Not debating. Thanks for your thoughts.

      I don't think 7.62x39 is in any existential danger. It will (and has) become more expensive, but there are far too many producers outside of Russia, including in the US, for it to become unviable. The same cannot be said for my beloved 5.45, which, even though I will keep my ammo, mags, and rifles for it, I've mostly switched to 5.56/.223 AKs for my small bore/high velocity desires. There are more quality expanding loads for .223/5.56 that are viable for defensive use than 5.45 anyway. I won't get rid of my SGL31 or mags or ammo, but the 5.56 is where it's at for anything other than 7.62x39. That said, 7.62x39 is perfectly viable and will continue to be.

I remember a little while ago when the 556nak first starting getting big , everyone was picking up fb and whp polish 556 mags for their 556 aks regardless of manufacture because they ONLY (HIGH QUALITY NOT BULLSH!T)READILY AVAILABLE SOURCE in America and were fitting everything. The problem with the poly zastava 556 mags is they are more specialized for their pattern, and the zastava 556 metal mags ONLY fit their pattern.
      Especially when one of the only available high quality import 556 mag available was the over priced arsenal mag , and the 556 clear mags were crap for their big price tag and kept on cracking at and when the fb/wbp mags came in in bulk totally made them look inferior, and this smaller polish company totally surpassed them as they were also translucent but were of superior quality would never crack/fracture and A FRACTION IF THE PRICE compared to the overpriced arsenal offering!

    Are the barrels made by FB? I know it has a 45 degree gas block but is the barrel drilled at 90?
    To be honest for 5.56 I prefer a barrel that's 18 to 20 inches but I really like how this link oks like an AKM with just a different mag.
    I think it would be great if they made these in 300 blackout.
    You may think what's the point of 300 blackout in an AK, for one you would only have to change the barrel of this 5.56 AK.
    When affordable steelcase ammo dries up and if no one can fill the role it's very easy to get use .223 or 5.56 brass then reshape it.
    You can also cast lead powder coat bullets that work just fine for 300 blackout and 7.62x39
    Don't get me wrong I prefer 7.62x39 but brass is expensive and I don't know how long I can keep relaoding steel cases and breaking the berdan anvil with a modified decapper (works 80 percent of the time) then put a large rifle primer with a drop of super glue.
    I don't clean the cases and I only do a partial resize and mark each case so I know what ammo to shoot in what rifle.
    Steel does not stretch like brass and I load it full power with a .312 lead cast bullet with no lube grooves or place for a gas check, I put them in a tumbler with good quality powder coat then in the oven then resize.
    They are surprisingly accurate and leave no copper or lead fouling in the bore plus are very cheap to relaod.
    You can't really use cast lead powder coat on anything faster than 7.62x39, you can paper patch a lead bullet for full power 5.56 but it's alot of trouble.
    I really want my 20 cent a round wolf ammo back.
    I have a large stockpile but don't want to use it.

    I'm considering maybe trying to pick one of these up to be a beater/trainer stand-in for my two 5.56 Beryl rifles. Not only that, but it seems to be a great quality Polish gun all on it's own and people will be sorry when it is no longer available... which is only a matter of when, not if. Even the mighty WASR one day will fall. Seeing WBP talk earlier this year on AKfiles how they've sent over AKMs to Ukraine, I have a lot more respect for them, plus it gives their rifles some legitimate track record in war and combat. Interesting times. I am very happy with my 7.62x39 Jack. Even to an OCD mind like me, I really can't find anything to complain about it. People say they're overpriced but for what you get, I don't think it is. I got mine for $1200 during the summer sale, but I'd pay $1300 for it anyway... even when I remember them being just under $1k on Atlantic in 2019.

      @@markp4401 I would love it if those predictions are wrong, but historically it's something that always happens to AKs. Best to get 'em while you can. I remember when SGL21s were $800, and even when Arsenal did a sale in 2009 for $499. I had just bought mine like a week before and was kicking myself lol. Which one? The m90 or m70? I would say that the weight goes to the 5.56 Jack with 6.5 pounds.
      M90 is heavy as a mofo, but it is robust and can adjust gas in three settings. Most people were happy with their finish. However, mine was disappointing because it was dusty and was scratched. For a gun that cost me 1400, not what I expected. Only shot around 50 rds and had issues where it failed to feed four times. It's around or cheaper than the Jack. I do think it is a solid gun and you can't do wrong with them.

      For the m90 it's 8.8 pounds before loading the magazine. For the m70 it's around 7.5 pounds. I mean, people can get used to the extra 2.5 pounds. One knock on the Jack is that it doesn't use a Forged barrel; instead, it uses Nitride treated barrel.
      I think a large amount of AKs uses Forged barrel. However, when I did my research, Nitride treated barrel isn't that bad compare to Forged. For most shooters, we won't even out shoot the dam barrels to begin with. I don't think the quality of the barrel should knocked the Jack down. For the M70 its like three hundred dollars cheaper and they're are great shooters.

Also kind of disappointing they don’t have the polish Radom grunion and accessory notch in he fab that was one of the main uniquenpercs to buying new polish style rifles.
