    Hangers from the brand Higher Hangers were a game changer for me. Clothes hang two to three inches higher than with regular hangers which, on a double hang, keeps them off the floor and from dragging on the bottom row.

    Good idea to put your hanging items on a rack beforehand to see how much space is required or to see how comfortable you are with items hung quite close or further apart. really informative tips with this update on closets. Thank you.

    I like that you include hooks as an area needed in the closet. Many organizers don't see the requirement for hooks or knobs and discount them. hooks are the bomb.

    I would love to see what ideas you might have for our ridiculous closets in our 1911 home. We have a L-shaped “walk-in” with a standard size interior door. The closet extends about 7 feet in one direction and about 10 feet straight back. The challenge is the pitch of our roof means, the peak height is about 5 ft tall, sloping down to about 2 ft. Meaning our closet is more of a crawl-in closet..

Summer is the perfect time while kids are out of school. Taking everything out, cleaning then painting. Replacing old carpet with vinyl plankflooring. House is 33 yrs old. Staying with white. Using a chest of drawers and jewelry armoire in place of some of the wire shelving that is ridiculously full of stuff. Thanks for your great ideas!😊

    We have a pocket door in our closet. My former closet had a regular door that swung in. I always had to close the door to reach my clothes. If the door swung out it was in the way to access the bathroom. So pocket door! Do love it, except I lose that extra storage space. We have an Elfa closet with double hung and long hung. I have a shoe rack and jewelry drawer. Regular dressers for folded clothes.

    Lovely wallpapers inside 😍So positive and stylish!
    My mom built shelving on the side of a 36"x40" step-in closet making it sorta walk-in closet. And guess what? It doesn't work :) Because you must go in there (and there's a 4" high doorstep) and turn in order to use those shelves properly. And there's no light inside (she didn't think of it and I wasn't involved in that project). So she opens the door and just pile things on a floor or tuck in the nearest visible space (and shelves are empty or have random junk). I call that door "the gates of hell" and try not to look inside. I removed all my things from there (except for one box, it's still somewhere under the pile, I'll search for it this summer) because even if they are rarely used items I still must be able to find and get them without taking all out and tucking all in.

    Your videos have been very helpful in getting me organized even though I live in a small one bedroom apartmentYour videos have been very helpful in getting me organized even though I live in a small one bedroom apartment. I now put my stuff in drawers vertically so now I can see what I have and don't forget about certain items and I'm able to rotate what I wear more often. I also replaced all my hangers with the slim fitting hangers it looks more esthetically pleasing since they're all the same hanger and it seems to be a lot more spacious.
    For those who are having trouble getting rid of items or donating (like I was)them there's an organization called dress for success that will take work clothes for people who are in need of them and can't necessarily afford them and so you feeless difficulty in donating them because you know they go to a good cause.

    If your closet is as big as mine there is no way you can put your stuff on a bed or in boxes. So I just grouped things by category then started at one end of the category where I have to put it on to see if it fits, donate, sell, needs repair, if I feel stressed and hate it, then it goes in the appropriate box or I have to wear it. When you have to grab a bottom I match it with a top of course. Anything I wear after washing goes at the finished end covered in plastic like the dry cleaners or you can reverse the hanger. You cannot wear anything at the finished end. You are forced to pick something from the remaining items. This may take awhile and will automatically sort things by season if you don't live in LA where there are no seasons, but there is no way I can make hundreds of decisions without burn out. Obviously you might want to do this at night, maybe on the weekend planning your outfits, since in the morning you might be rushed for work. I will finish someday but it is like losing weight and takes some patience and dedication. The stuff for sale is hanging in a corner and it will all go at once but I covered with plastic for now. You can apply the same principal to shoes and even purses to decide to keep or get rid of it. I have kept things that didn't fit because they become vintage and are back in style after about 10 years apparently. Also that weight you gained will be gotten rid of someday or you die from diabetes or whatever. It is your choice. Then that vintage stuff can be donated. I retired and started the weight loss thing after doctor yelled at me (husband would never quit cooking and I had to take it to work and find someone to eat it all). Don't make the mistake I made and buy office clothes for the 10 years before you retire. This is the same mistake I made when a teenager and I bought what I wanted instead of stuff for an office job. At 16 you had better be buying only work clothes unless you are rich. You can wear office clothes to school, but unless you work at McDonald's or construction, plan ahead for that temp job you might have at an office or store. At my age I have the right to never wear heels, a suit jacket, (or makeup) again. Have no idea why old ladies try to look 16 with makeup, hair and clothes because they look like clowns. I might look a little silly wearing office clothes cleaning house but that's what happens when you don't plan ahead. I was working so hard I never had time to figure out what was in that closet. It sure was a shock so don't wait 20 years. I really hate my office clothes because they are boring blue, grey, brown, black, ick, so when I finish I will sort through it again to see if I actually like it. I do wonder when I get to my normal weight what I might still have to wear but I look forward to buying something bright and cheerful that I will like and have an Amazon wish list of current styles so maybe next year I will be done. Heads up be very careful when you buy chinese stuff like shoes/purses/belts because I would open a box of shoes or pick up a brief case and it fell apart even though it wasn't used at all. You should make sure it is all leather and those glues are made to fall apart so my shoes lasted 10 minutes (no joke and I really liked them). Even the rubber soles collapsed when I put my weight on the shoe and liquid poured out. I had stock piled some stuff because I had an expensive store discount and figured I would use them eventually (huge mistake). Anything made when I was young would have been great but now they make things to fall apart on purpose. I suggest learning to sew on UA-cam because this is insane. Also I bought a whole suitcase of shoes in Europe because their stuff actually fits me (things like straps are longer) and lasted a long time. Don't buy from street vendors there (just the normal stores) or you get cardboard instead of leather again. I have seen fake products in stores in LA so you always have to stay alert. I saw a UA-cam video on how they make those fake store names on Amazon to sell products. So do your homework. I won't buy even a kitchen product without doing a google search on best product X, because even my scissors break.

    Anyways, I am inspired, yeah! I think the declutter part might make it a little too daunting, maybe declutter most of it first before you fully empty everything? But I will think about your suggestions, thank you!
    Question, what do you think of those multi-garment hangers that allow you to hang several clothes from them and then you sort of make them vertical so they don't take up that much space? Do you have any experience with them? (I hope my description is understandable)

    What is the measurements between each rod?

    • @TheOrganizedSoprano
      @TheOrganizedSoprano  5 місяців тому

      It depends on your height and whether or not you have a shelf underneath and need it to be functional. For short hanging, 36-40” for smaller adult clothes and 42”-46” for larger adults give or take a few inches if you are smaller or larger. I always advised people to measure the length of hanging clothes from the top of the hanger to the bottom of their garments. Long hang needs at least 60” in my opinion, more if you are taller.
