Very nice review. In my own personal, humble opinion, Led Zeppelin was the greatest influential rock band in history. I don't know of anyone from that era or after that hasn't mentioned them as an influence. When they can do something like Rain Song and then go directly to something like Black Dog, it's amazing.

The footage is from the Led Zeppelin movie "The Song Remain The Same", though it has been re-edited for this particular song. You ladies should watch the movie, with Lulu, she will go nuts for some of the backstage and family footage. It is available on DVD, and maybe even Blu-Ray.

Yes, Led Zeppelin did beat the Beatles record at Shea Stadium and also beat the Beatles Abbey Road album to number 1 twice in the process. They also have the most played song ever on radio to this day, Stairway to Heaven, of course 😊

Led Zeppelin made a Concert FIlm as a gift to their fans.
Shot in NYC's Madison Square Gardens over 3 nights in July 1973 , much of it from the viewpoint of a fan in the 1st row. It's Theatrical release was in 1976, and is titled
    LED ZEPPELIN
    THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME
    "IN CONCERT...AND BEYOND!"
I strongly suggest you avoid these bootlegged hacked up versions and check out the movie in its entirety from start to finish.

Led Zeppelin is one of the first, if not the first group to have a personal jet. They only rented it but still. Some of the footage of the crowd is actually taken from footage of the song "Since I've Been Loving you." from the same concert. The Little boy Plant is holding in the video was his son that died from a rare disease a few years later. The concert was from 1973. The video was released in 76. So you are right both times. LOL. The 73 concert was turned into a movie and released in 1976. In the movie, each band member had segment's where they did a little skit or showed parts of their home life during a song. For this song, Plant did a skit where he was a knight rescuing a maiden in a castle. This is the first time I ever saw a version of this song where they cut out the skit part.
More Chad!!!!! My man Chad knows how to woo the ladies I see. He got you so flustered you spilled your drink. I think Chad is gonna get some tonight!

I was wondering if you ladies were avoiding Zeppelin, after listening to Whole Lotta Love. The Song Remains The Same is usually played before with this song, it goes right into The Rain Song. I agree with the others, you’d love the movie, it’s well worth watching. I know Plant & Bonham loved their simple home lives, on their farms. Bonham’s wife still lives in their home, & never remarried, they were high school sweethearts. Plant & his wife married in 1968, & divorced in like 1982, I think losing their son hurt their marriage. JPJ married in 1967, & him & his wife are still married. Plant wrote two beautiful song one for his wife Thank You, & All Of My Love, as a tribute to his son. This song The Rain Song was written by Jimmy Page, when George Harrison said they needed a ballad, & boy did Jimmy write a beautiful one.

For most of their career, they had no bands open or close for them, they sold out all their concerts. They would play for 3 to 4 hours, & not take a break. When George Harrison told I believe Bonham, that they needed a ballad, George said they played 20 minutes & take a break & played about 90 minutes. He was surprised how long LZ played, & not taking any breaks.

'The rain song' was one of Led Zeppelin's mellow, psychedelic songs... from their 5th album in 1972 - 'Houses of the Holy'... It wasn't intended for a movie but its live performance was included in their concert movie 'The song remains the same'.
If u love the spaced-out Led Zeppelin songs, u can check out the songs - 'Thank you' ... 'Ten years gone' ... 'No quarter' ... 'The lemon song'...
Zeppelin even had acoustic, rockabilly and folk songs - "Bron-yr-aur stomp" ... "Gallow's pole" ... 'Tangerine' ... 'Over the hills and far away'...

Led Zeppelin is my favorite, The performance is from the movie The Song Remains the Same and The Traveling Riverside Blues. The point of 07:04 in the video is Robert Plant picking up his son Karac with his daughter Carmen at his side. Unfortunately Karac Plant died at at the age of 5 cause of a stomach virus. At the point of 11:04 was Robert Plants wife, though they are now divorced, they remain close. The plane which was Boeing 707 was not owned by the band, but given to them to use. The kids are featured on the cover of Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy.

I see someone has mentioned their movie "The Song Remains the Same." It's a great movie and album that used concert footage of their 3 shows at Madison Square Garden in 1973. It has live footage of the band before the show, concert clips, and each member had a fantasy sequence in it.
This song, preceded by "The Song Remains the Same," is a 14-minute masterpiece. I don't think the video is on UA-cam anymore, but if you can find it, I highly recommend watching it.

The 73’ rain song from MSG brings me to tears every single time. An absolute masterpiece. I will list a few songs I think you need to react to:
LZ - Since I’ve been loving you - live at MSG ‘73 (ideally, it would be awesome to see you react to the full song remains the same movie, from which this footage is mostly from. The set list is structured in such a way that one song feeds into the next. For example, you can hear the tail end of ‘the song remains the same’ track at the very beginning of this video, when Robert goes “ahhhhhhhhhh” into the guitar part. It’s crucial to hear these tracks together. Basically the run from the start of rock n roll to the rain song which spans 8 songs, is an absolute juggernaut performance, which explains why jimmy page looks exhausted by the end of this video - which still has many tracks to go in the set.
LZ - Going To California - live at earls court ‘75
LZ - Kashmir - live at the 02 arena in 2007 (with the late John bonham’s son, Jason Bonham filling in for his dad) some might say to check out the one from Knebworth in ‘79, but this one is 30 years later and IMO Robert plants best vocal performance of the song.
On a side note, I think you would also enjoy reacting to:
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - When the Levee breaks - live at Glastonbury. When the levee breaks being a LZ track with elements of the LZ song ‘friends’ off LZ III album. An amazing performance as well.
Thank you for these great videos! And feel free to reach out for any LZ recommendations.

Chad looks great in that shirt - got Donna all discombobulated! Sadly, Robert Plant's little boy later passed away. Only John Paul (Jones) was there for the funeral and to support Robert. The other two were, apparently, wrapped up in drugs at the time. Jimmy Page created the band, but JPJ sustained it and arranged all of the music. Even though they were the best band ever, I sometimes wonder how much better they would have been if Jimmy and Bonzo had been more in control of their drug use.

Actually it was Bonzo who supported Robert through his loss and the funeral and persuaded Robert to co tinge with the band. JPJ and Page didn't go as they said they didn't want it turned into a media circus.

This is one of those times that I enjoy the studio cut more than live. It's fuller and richer sounding. There were only four of them performing but when they recorded, they could play many more instruments than they could drag onto a stage, or try to "bounce" between in the middle of a performance. Do give the studio cut a listen, I think you'd really enjoy it. :) Edit: The live doesn't do service to John Paul Jones' genius as an arranger, either. Studio cut definitely does.
