The Whole “Machine Head” album is awesome. In addition to Smoke on the Water, Highway Star, and Space Truckin, you need to check out “Lazy”, “Maybe I’m a Leo”, and “Never Before”
Classic Deep Purple lineup: Ian Gillan - vocals and screams Ritchie Blackmore - Lead Axe Jon Lord - Organs and Keyboards Roger Glover - Bass Axe Ian Paice - Drums and Percussion
@Mister_Samsonite fair point, I guess a musicians drummer, his skill, precision, timing and chops are the best out there, I love other great rock drummers like, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Bill Ward, Ginger Baker and Neil Peart, but Ian Paice along with Keith Emerson have the extra finesse the other just don't possess
@@simply_psi I find it odd how many great hard rock drummers site jazz influences, such as Buddy Rich & Gene Krupa. I won't say Paice is underrated, but he's not in the conversation as much as he should be.

"Deep Purple Live in New York 1973", they do "Space Truckin" at 11:38". An awesome performance that shows what these guys were about - passion and loving the audience. Just like you guys 😊

Ian Paice is one of the most underrated drummers in R & R! Thanks for the reaction and noticing! 👍👍👍👍👍Here's the isolated drums for you too! ua-cam.com/video/GWKJbJ4DIH0/v-deo.htmlsi=wMCv9-ajrutzvC4K Absolutely amazing!!!
Funny story. I had tickets to see Deep Purple Way back in the early 90s. They offered a refund because the date for my city was canceled. Apparently Richie Blackmore literally broke his fingers during a show prior to my event during a guitar solo. I don’t have anything else to say about that.
Love it, that Jon Lord's epic keybord riff just drives the whole song. Overdriven, like a guitar it's just heavy as hell- esp with Ian's drums, and the other Ian's vocals.
Everybody please tell jay he doesn't know how great the 70s were but if he would have lived them he would kick the 80s to the curb And Jay your BEE GEES were huge in the 70s
Deep Purple is one of the best, and still going strong. Ian Paice is my favorite drummer of all time, and the one remaining founding member in the band. He has a great UA-cam channel if you're interested in some stories from the late 60s & early 70s. With this song coming out 3 years after our first moon landing, we still had space exploration on our minds at the time. Just one of many reasons this was such an epic and timeless album. I was 14 when it was released in '72, and could still listen to it all day long. 😁
This is one of the best recorded albums in history, IMO. The separation is incredible and yet there is SO much going on. It’s crisp but not dry, punchy but not abrasive, warm but not weak. And that doesn’t even get into the music, which is for sure my favorite of DP and I think most would say is their best. It’s a trip from top to bottom, almost literally. It’s full of great road music including the legendary Highway Star and of course Smoke on the Water. But my favorite is Lazy, which is about 7 minutes long and is 5 minutes of solo instrumentals to start. All timer. Everybody could play and sing their nuts off.
Arguably the hardest rocking band to come out of England of their generation. Deep Purple are such an influence on heavy metal. So many bands refer to them as an influence.
Around Kansas City there are some warehouses in caves. I was parked in a dock in one of the caves when I heard the radio in someone else's truck. It was this song. I went over and asked him if it was Space Truckin. He said yes, and I pointed out we were doing the exact opposite. We were underground!
Righteous! My older sister had this album when it first came out. We did our Saturday chores listening to this album. You two are bringing two memories. I don't think I have listened to this song since those days.
@LiberalsArePoop It doesn't come up when I search for it, so I don't think so. You might be confusing it with The Joker in which he mentions the term space cowboy
@@alrivers2297 The stand alone song "Space Cowbiy" is on UA-cam. In it he mentions several of his catch phrases from other songs, but it is a real song and easily found using the YT search function. I just did it, even though I have the album. Use "Steve Miller Band Space Cowboy" and it comes up immediately.
@@alrivers2297 I was replying to another person that said the song doesn't exist, thinking that I meant "The Joker", which of course I didn't. I guess you got a notice of my reply to that person. Sorry.
My favorite Deep Purple song starts off with John Lord on his Hammond C3 organ which is amplified through a Marshall Stax amplifier, to the point that many identify it as a heavy metal guitar, but it's J. Lord's keyboards. Ian Gilliam screams his vocals out and Ian Paice is brilliant on drums. Two other great Paice drum solos include Burn and Speed King.
My mom was a teen in the 70s and loved Deep Purple. This was one of the first records I ever heard. I was amazed. I thank my mom so much for her amazing music taste and for sharing it with me.
You guys should just do every song from this album. They all rock. Ian Paice the drummer is a great rock drummer that has blues and jazz influences. I love when you guys really get into these tunes, especially Amber who really appreciates the 70’s vibe. There are still so many groups and songs I wish you would get too because I’m sure you would like them. Go back and check out the recommendations I’ve given including the emails I sent with a ton of songs if by chance you kept them. I would be happy to send them again.
Top 5 drummer Ian Paice. Way ahead of his time. The intro to the track Fireball of the same name record is beyond words. Top 5 band in my opinion. I was lucky enough to see them live, past their prime, but still great back in 1985 in Florida. Fantastic, will never forget.
I saw Ritchie Blackmore, Lead guitarist, and lead vocalist, for Deep Purple. Back in 1981 with Richie, Blackmore and rainbow. His warm-up band was Def Leppard. At the end of the show, he did an encore of all Deep Purple stuff and space Truckin woman from Tokyo and smoke on the water were the songs he did.
Definitely one of their most iconic riffs!! Love the interplay Blackmore’s guitar & Lord’s organ….plus there’s no voice like Ian Gillan with his shredding voice….try “Knocking at your Back Door” & “Perfect Strangers”….for further reactions also try “Woman From Tokyo” 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Got into this band once I heard "Hush". This entire album is a classic.I always loved the organ in this band. Sir John Lord passed away sadly, but was Knighted by the Queen
Man! They are so GREAT!! As far as I'm aware you still haven't done "Child in Time" which I consider their signature and best song (even more than Smoke on the Water). Jon Lloyd, the keyboardist, was a founding member in 1968, BUT I am absolutely certain In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, by Iron Butterfly '68, was a HUGH influence on Jon & Deep Purple. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was a significant song for it's place in history, psychedelic and prog-rock movement. The organ was front and center and could have been done very well by either the Doors or Deep Purple. I purchased this album when it first came out & discover it took up one whole side: 17 minutes!
So glad you got back to Deep Purple, they were and are my favorite live band with the great Ian Gillan on vocals and Ian Paice on drums, whom I believe is the best drummer of all time and he plays left handed on a right handed drum set. There is no one in this group that isn't at the top of their instruments. I also would like to remind you that you were going to do more Survivor, try Burning Bridges please
Another Ikonic tune off of Machine Head, that entire album is dope. You should hear this live off of Made In Japan, it becomes a space jam with Ritchie and Jon on Improv and the ending can blow speakers, it is so powerful. More Deep Purple! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

Deep Purple was Phenomenal! Their double live album "Made in Japan" is still one of the best live albums recorded. Need to check out the song "Child in Time" from this live recoding. Ian Gillian's voice really stand out (as the well as the rest of this amazing band) !
I was just scanning through some Deep Purple and ran across this song live from NY in 1973 and thought I would let you guys know. I hadn't seen it before and it is incredible. It has Ian absolutely wailing that great voice of his. Jon is playing 2 or 3 keyboards at the same time and Ian Paice is killing it on the drums. If you guys really like the song, I think you will love watching this live version.
The whole band is just cookin’ on this song! You mentioned the guitars but, and maybe someone else mentioned it, a big part of Deep Purple’s heavy sound actually comes from the late Jon Lord plugging his Hammond organ into a Marshall amplifier that was originally designed for use with guitars!
You absolutely must listen to the 1970’s live version of “Child in Time”! It has something for everyone! It may not look like a live version but it is, the audience was just told to be quiet for recording purposes. Please treat yourself to this classic!
I've asked them to play it so many times but they haven't yet. As many Zeppelin songs that they have played, and rightfully so, Deep Purple made a serious impact in the 70's!
I am so glad you finally got to this deep purple song I have been requesting for months and months but you didn’t do it justice although great album you should listen to it’s entirety 19 minutes live made in Japan John lord on the organ kills it a good listen indeed now could you react to another I have suggesting for long time get ready by rare earth and of course the live version 20 minutes only please

You have to react to Child In Time (the live 1970 version)
I was just scanning through some Deep Purple and ran across this song live from NY in 1973 and thought I would let you guys know. I hadn't seen it before and it is incredible. It has Ian absolutely wailing that great voice of his. Jon is playing 2 or 3 keyboards at the same time and Ian Paice is killing it on the drums. If you guys really like the song, I think you will love watching this live version.
Whenever you two react to Deep Purple, you put a big fat smile on my face. Thank You 😊
I was a Musician and they are one of my top 5 1970s bands, I was a Keyboard Player in the 70s and it was F'n Awesome 🤟
Ian Paice is one of the best drummers.
Love this, had this album for years. My woman from Tokoyo another banger. Live In Japan a good choice, but studio is good also.
Rob is Cool as a Fun and Amber is Super Cute and Fun!!!! You Guys Rock as Much as Deep Purple does!!!! LOL!
One of the FIRST vinyl records I ever bought. So heavy...possibly the birth place of heavy metal.
