G Scale Train Newqida LGB 6 Month Chernobyl Urban Decay Effects

- Back in Spring 2012 I set up an impressive and very inexpensive garden railway by Newquida which is a made in China LGB clone. It's now 6 months on and I need to pull up the railway, but before it's gone lets see how it survived a very hot and wet Australian summer. Was the train tracks affected by outdoor exposure?
WARNING, do not attempt the train crashes you see in this video with a multi thousand dollar LGB G scale train.
Original video showing how the cheap garden railway was built is here. • Cheap G Scale Train Sy...
The first Black Canyon Express G scale train which broke down was used as a push around on the garden railway for a few weeks. I later purchased another of these train sets.
The 6 months of decay on my backyard railway reminded me of Chernobyl and the amazing ghost town of Pripyat which is a deserted city next to the nuclear power plant explosion disaster site inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone. Have I created a miniature version of long term urban decay in G scale in 6 months ?

leokimvideo Cool train backyard set 😊 I have HO scale not g scale
I learned a ton with this cheap G scale train. it certainly gave me a taste for this large scale and the problems it presents. It's the sort of scale where I think you just have to go hard and spend some money, doing it by half will only leave you empty. Once you touch G scale it really makes the smaller scales seem like toys.
It was funny, the bulk of the overgrowth happened in the last few months, it was pretty clean around Christmas time from memory. But I do love the look of the very changed world, so much more character.
The videos I love on youtube are the ones showing Chernobyl and the close town of Pripyat. It's a mecca for the study of urban decay. I was surprised how fast the run down look happened to my simple garden railway, mind you we had a ton of Summer rain
The overgrowth looks really cool. Reminds me of the old Navy base I work at where the housing has been vacant since '94 and there are trees growing through the houses. Would make a very convincing post apocalyptic neighborhood.
The viewers like it FREE, it's sending me some good vibrations
have a good summer...it's only just around the corner
(Continued)
The track i can best recommend has plastic ties/sleepers and brass or stainless steel rails and Fish plates/Rail joiners.(TOTALLY ROBUST)
Pull away the overgrowth(should have said this earlier)
Set up away from mature/taller than scale trees
back to roadbed, Crushed stones work well and I recommend putting them in a 5-6 inch wide and 3 inch deep trench
Not exactly on the subject of trains but if you sometimes experience temperatures over 100 degrees F, you might benefit from a trick my grandparents used back when hardly anyone in the U.S. had "air conditioning" (heat pumps). My grandfather was a farmer. When he and his hired man came to the house for lunch, if the temp was 100 degrees or more, they ate lunch, then filled a large tub with water, put bed sheets in it, wrung only part of the water out of the sheets and laid or sat around with the wet sheets on them and didn't go back out to the fields until the temperature dropped below 100 degrees. I'm sure that method saved many people from heat stroke.
Actually, the g gauge set makes a good abandoned railway for a film or something like that
it's a big job to reset all the wash away tracks,. there is a ton of work to be done
Classic abandoned railway!
nice train set + spring time and hail storms and snow and stuff = destoyed, covered, broken = YOU SNAP THEM IN P - ARTS
I have to agree with you Leo I live in Australia and there are stupidly high prices. The reason for this is that we're so far away from all the other countries and the high cost of shipping makes our prices stupidly high.
yep i hate this stupid pricing cuz i too live in australia
2013 chaos was so much simpler
Considering the problem areas I had in the track layout it really needs to be done again. If and when I do lay the tracks I will have a very different method and steer clear of earth mounds which just get washed away.
Thanks, interesting to know
If I did it I would use a flame thrower
During the winter i used to run a battery powered g scale canyon set on my lgb garden railroad so the snow would stay off the tracks for when i would run my lgb in the snow!
This remainds me of abandoned railways
FREE bird sounds
Looks better then my garden railway! I have to rebalast mine once every 2 months it washes out so much !
Great vid love it
I am not setting ad's against my uploads until my channel collapse can be sorted out. We all like something for free don't we..??
Leo, you should go to Pripyat, as you seem interested in it. They give you tours, I believe.
Nice video it was rather sad to see you take this track up like that but you had to do it, but hey it gives you the chance to put down a new track a better one with everything you have learned, i'm looking forward to seeing when you put down the new track, keep up the good work.
sometimes, but not always
Very cool! Your rail way looks and sounds like Jurassic Park LOL!
By the way, in Garden Railways Magazine a few years back, a guy made a weed wacker car with old model airplane moters & propellers. If your planning to rebuild the railroad, it might be a good idea to build one.
Your G scale layout in this video reminds me of a poorly maintained railroad because of the amount of vegetation on and near the tracks.
That railway looks like a scene out of Duke the Lost Engine!
correct, this place is going down
the funny thing is Leo, the way your GR looked like a railroad that has been bankrupt for sometime, lost in the ever evolving world, it was a sad sight over in the USA
Apparently the LGB models are waterproof.
That explains why they are so expensive
That bird song in the background sound lovely, although it would get annoying after a while I guess.
and now they are FREE
You always seem to know how to make the best out of everything, don't you Leo? :)
Your Railway is an abandoned style one
Incre is a great woman and a great way to get a great woman and a great woman to be the woman that you can take for you on your mind all night with your family and cronies you have the most amazing I've seen her ever and your other beautiful and I know your way over a long long.
@@aaronmurphy3478 what the hell?
Hi there
Indeed most interesting seeing how overgrown it had become. Maybe next time, you could try and get a hold of a time lapse camera and recordthe footage of the railway and seeing nature take it over again.
Euan
You look like a railway explorer, discovering a lost railway.
leo you may think think that is like Chernobyl but most the UK's disused railways which has yet to be made into cycle paths are like that.
I know what you need, squire; a track maintenance gang. Try geting a diesel locomotive, some breakdown and flatbed cars and a track maintenance crew of technicians.
In North America, rainy season is mainly late March to early or mid July
I kept waiting for the birds to attack something like in the Hitchcock movie " The Birds".
Those are some loud birds...
the newqida train set is cool looking train set.
Your starting too freak me out with all of that FREE stuff.
You should buy a bachmann Thomas starter set, it is a fantastic series wih the best Thomas you will have in your collection. The model is perfect!
Leo, lay down some good quality metal track.
Hey Leo, I think maybe you should build garden railway somewhere else in the backyard of you home.
I think 2013 should be renamed the year of ending :P I think for your very first model railway it was a very good attempt. Also I think for a el-cheapo model train the track survived outdoor very well. I've had a similar style of track that hardly survived in the garden shed! It will be interesting to see what changes you make should you re-build it.
Nice train
we have snakes more than spiders in this part of Australia just got back from ipswich it is so cool!
Uploaded on my birthday last year!
Rain is bad for your garden model trains, because my garden model train has died because of the rain last night
No, Hero of the Rails
My goodness, your outdoor G scale train layout is over growen.
will you be rebuilding it after btw that overgrown part looks so cool
Leo, in England, we also call it autumn. I
as the owner of a Garden Railway I can give you some tips on the type of railway
Set up in a place where you feel it's right at home, even if it'll be temporary
Remember to watch for overgrowth
Make sure you roadbed and track is tough for the weather, and unable to be washed away.
Your rail equipment must resist the outdoor condition and work like the real thing, I.E. able to go through some plants(they can't be so light)
(To be continued, 100 character limit)
This garden railway kinda reminds me of Crysis 3 wen u have 2 survive the ceph aliens
You need to employ a permanent way gang to look after your trackwork...
Do you leave the trains outside when it rains, or just the track?
no
Did you just reference a meme before it was even made?
Maybe....even when it's FREE
R.I.P RAILWAY 😮
FREE, FREE, FREE as a BIRD
enjoy the FREE VIDEO
simple , it's FREE
I was expecting to find Hero in the lost tracks
wait what-
Is there another meaning of FREE I don't know about
and my rc boat is also by newqida and it works fine
Welcome to Fuji minobu Railway
You need to add some lgb rolling stock!!!!!! And replace the track with lgb
and remember it was FREE
It's FREE...it's that simple, my channel is shot to pieces uploads are advertiser FREE
On another note, please set up another G scale rail transport solution. :)
I don't need the radiation dose
Hi Leokim!
Does it ever snow in aussie? That train would look lovely in the snow.
Sheamus Meade no only in the mountains it snows, never in the city/town/housing areas
Leo, how much does that locomotive weigh?
about holding 2kg
I left mine out for three months and it looked like this
What you need to do is elevate your track off the ground with ballast. I am both an n scaler and g scaler, I know what you need
So tell me. is it possible for the Newqida track to last for a long time outdoors?
if you ever build another G scale layout, do it on a flat surface so that way your train can maneuver around the track layout without any problems.
you may need o add wight to the loco for tracktive effort
As somebody that's trying to get into this I found your experiment very interesting. One of the biggest costs I've seen with these sorts of setups is the track. I often wondered why people didn't just use all plastic track (which you can find for a song).
No offense, but all of your issues seem to spurn from installing the track improperly. It needs to be elevated to drain, on a stable base, pinned down, ect. So it leads me to believe that a person COULD get away with an all plastic track!
POV: the mid sodor railway
its like a abandand railway
It's like the abandoned zig zag railway
I thought it seemed a bit like Toby's Tightrope.
This engine looks like the marklin engine from TTTE.
where did you get the engine. its cool
We call it fall not autumn here in Canada
Looks like something from Burma.
Chernobyl is an incredible place, I really wan to visit
Do you leave the trains outside when it rains, or just the track? The trains all look wet but I would have thought that such cheep G-scale trains wouldn't be waterproof.
I might have to look into whether I can buy those trains here in the US. If my parents let me it would be cool to have a backyard railway.
leo, you know how trains like this are used in movies? An example is for a destruction of a train. I recently messaged you about this topic and presented you with the Steven Seagal movie under siege 2 dark territory. There was a scene where a passenger train collides head on into a freight train. Did you watch it? It's here on youtube
Why did you leave that train out when it was not been used?
I''ve been watching since last yea r. Your report is FUN to watch. Obviously, you a re not O C D about the outcome. I have 2 of the locomotives neither run in forward like yours. Need to find electronics friend. In you heat I would be inside with a cooler. Looking forward to your next report.
All true
Will you ever rebuilt the garden railway
the railway looks like thomas and the magic railroads railroad
This may sound stupid but why do your recent videos have the words FREE VIDEO at the end Of
