G Scale Black Canyon Express Outdoors & Newquida Track Run

- Recently I purchased the very inexpensive EZTECH Black Canyon Express Remote Controlled G Scale Train Set. I decided to set it up outside and change the batteries to rechargeable C cell's. It's surprising how long the train runs on a single charge.
Considering I also have a Newquida garden railway layout I ran the light weight Black Canyon Express on some foreign tracks. It was interesting to see what problems started to happen. My son also tried some Thomas & Friends Take n Play trains on the large G scale tracks...choo, choo.
UPDATE, the train you see in this video died shortly after this video was produced, that strange sound coming from the locomotive was the beginning of the end. First forward movement failed then reverse. I was unable to fix whatever had happened to the train. It was given a good two weeks of hard use by my son before it developed the death rattles.
Buy cheap, buy twice.. so I did, and now I have a massive railway layout and a ton of rolling stock.

looks like the track survived a very hot and wet summer, I will do a 6 month review of the track...it's very different looking now

I have a big garden Railway G scale outside my house too. It’s been maybe a year and 2 months I since I built it. but since here in Montana in the US we can have fatal weather like bad snowfall. when snow season comes I put like a tent cover roof over the whole layout so it’s protected and well it actually works.
If you still have that layout up, you could try creating custom-made short pieces,like you did with the Lego train, between switch-switch and left curve-right-curve areas.

Hey Leo, if you send me the train I can fix it. I will also:
Add a small strip of rubber on the drive wheels, and add some weights to the engine so it gets better drive. I'm not sure of the voltage but I'd probably wire two 7.2v RC car batteries in parallel to give it / more weight and longer run time and store them in the tender, if there isn't enough room in the engine. I
d also add some cool LED lights to it as well. I bet you probably chucked it out by now.
I think I had one of those about 10 years ago, when I was your boy's age. It was red, and had smoke as well. Then, I bought that exact train set. Ran for years, until the same problem you encountered, well, happened.

I have over 20 big train sets in my house but I sold my Lionel frosty the snowman train set in my yard sale and on my yard sale of this year I sold my Lionel Pennsylvania Flyer train set in my yard sale at my old house
Why did it break?
Reverse curves always give problems - they can be reduced by putting a straight section between the opposite curves, if your track geometry allows.
Looking at your son's interest with model trains, I would consider gettting him a OO/HO train layout when he grows up.
My childhood was full of 80's/90's thomas the tank engine, and some S6/S7, and I now have a massive interest in trains.
I try to read all comments, but sadly I can't watch every video which gets uploaded onto youtube...Many people ask me to go and look at their videos and sometimes I do. The best way to get the attention of the audience is make really nice videos and then people start sending it around to their friends to watch.

I know LGB has re-released a proper branded battery powered train (Different to the Newqida you own) which might be an interesting product to review on quality.
The problem is I don't know if Australia imports them yet or cost for one. :-(

The people who made the German engine are releasing a lot of locos and stock this year with some track packs and buildings ETC.
I have a funny game I play with all my g scale train sets and I uncouple the carriage on purpose while the train is in motion and say Welcome off and laughed in the end

I have a black canyon express that belonged to my father. It was left to me after he passed but I don't have any instructions for it. I would like to run it for my son for the holiday but I can't get it to puff smoke and it just smells awful. Can you please tell me if it needs oil or something?

the only train set that I ever had was a Gold Rush Express , but I heard that it breaks right out of the box , is this true ?
All train sets made by Scientific Toys/EZTec can be broken out of the box. They're cheap, inexpensive (but cool looking) G-Scale trains that have cheap little motors with cheap wiring housed in VERY VERY cheap plastic. I hope I have answered your question.

Yes I have one of their amazing electric Christmas Trains. and, yes it would DEFINETELY work in Californ-I-A weather. you should post a video of your layout. I'd like to see it- that is if you haven't already posted one.
I'll be getting around to it , but I have work to do on a fanfic that I'll be adapting into an audio drama and yea I'm just going to come out and say it I'm a brony , the fanfic is My Little Pony : The New Lunar Republic , I'm going to be mixing it with tech from Halo , star wars and Star trek music from the same ones , same with the sound effects and I am going to be using Windows Movie Maker and Adobe Audition

That sounds really cool and awesome and I'll have to check it out. I'm not a Brony but the stuff Isaac/YANGtangthe1st has shown me is probably the only stuff I might consider watching again - such as "My Little Dashie - the Mini Movie." That was great drama. Oh- I sure hope you don't get a copywright notice from UA-cam. One way to avoid this is to edit the audio using Movie Maker (such as loop parts, cut off lyrics, skip parts, change pitch by setting the speed of the video at: 1.03x, etc.) and then save it for computer, then open it in your "FanFic" as either "Music" or click "Record Narration" then on the dropdown menu click "add sound" and browse for it.
I prefer to use "Record Narration" because that way if you delete an unwanted scene the set spot for the narration won't change and go back however many seconds the deleted clip was. Thank you! I'm (kind of) excited for it!
