It's rather expensive, but LGB actually released a special "Track cleaning" locomotive at one point which had a pair of light abrasive pads on the front that rotated in the opposite direction of travel to perform the cleaning of the rails.
Its so amazing that that Little Dinky Tank engine can carry nearly 10 cars, with no wheelslip. Aren't there Live-Steam locomotives for G-Scale? That would be an interesting review.
And a very expensive one. Accucraft’s little manual control “set the throttle and it runs until it has no more steam” engines are in the $500 range, not to mention the bigger engines that would actually be able to pull a bigger consist
@✖️ Vito ✖️ my ruby pulls a bachman hoppercar that I weighted down with 10lbs of lead even before I adjusted the safety valve to the 60 psi my boiler certificate is good for
With the amount of lead inside that old Stainz model, I'm not surprised by the by it's pulling power, although the traction tire might have deteriorated slightly over time. - By the way, did you know that Locomotive might have a functioning smoke unit?!?! if you turn the loco upside down, you'll see a small metal tab, turn it so that it sits over the nut holding the Stainz's Funnel. Now add a few drops of smoke fluid down the funnel, and watch it smoke away. (Note: need to run it at higher speeds to work) - Oh did you try using the 2 X AA batteries in the Workers light on the maintenance car? They need to be installed in the long black tool boxes on the front end of that wagon. The Controller probably feels cheap because it only contains the basic direction components, and maybe a short circuit/overload protector. Original controllers didn't have the black Main power box, instead everything was inside the controller making it heavy. This of course meant that LGB had to make the same controller but with different International Wall sockets. The new controller cuts down on that cost, kinda.
ever since I was a kid I've always been into O gauge but seeing that little stainz run around the floor make me want to build a G scale shelf layout. also, have you been able to get the spotlight car working properly?
I have LGB in my Garden Railway that I finished summer last year. Nice to see you back in the G gauge once again. :D Edit: Then again, I used a Gaugemaster controller at the end of the day. More voltage to help my trains around the full garden.
9:09 lol im not that surprised. when the G scale train is set up around the first floor of my house it can pull 10 (sometimes 11) wagons at most: 2 coaches, the crane and orange flat car with truck, an xmas themed present car and water tanker, 2 flat beds, 2 xmas themed passenger cars then the break van and the train still pulls it
hey TrainBoy i dont know why i like your “vibe” it seems weird but i like the music you put in your videos and font that you use for texts its really nice keep making the good work 👍
I went to my first model train show today and got 4 consists for 20$ Annie and Clarabel which normally goes for 30$ on Amazon for 12$ and a model train diesel engine for 30$ they also had the same LGB construction flatbed
I wanna do G Scale, but it’s so expensive and takes up so much room! Maybe I could join a club for it. Also, I’d look into getting all my G scale engines converted to battery and remote control
Well if you wanna start with g scale, then I think you can have a start model Trainboy did say there's a g scale Winston. And he's a working model. So maybe thay can work for a starter model? I don't know, I'm not much of a g scaler or proper modeler.
Couple tips for the future, you don't need the official LGB track cleaning block. You can get a regular sanding block or honestly, a block of wood, and glue on a piece of wet-dry sandpaper. With wet-dry you have a much broader range of grits to choose from. Next time, if you damp down everything you will get a nicer polish as well. You will also see just how much black-green oxide you are actually taking off the rails, which is why you shouldn't clean track on your carpet.😐😑
I have some track outside which has been there for over a year, I literally didn't clean it once and it still works fine LOL (unless you count that time I had to remove some bird poo with a rag)
I never clean my track but that's just because my locomotive is a accucraft live steam ruby and the 3 truck shay&4-6-0 are waiting for rc battery power the rough dirty rail gives me better adhesion
If you can make a video about Wallace and Gromit model train props the scale is unknown I thought somewhere N gauge or Z gauge track cause I did saw 2000s model not the 1990s model version of Wallace and Gromit in exhibition when the models visit Australia. 1990s model were destroyed in a fire in a warehouse in UK I'm not sure the prop model trains where in there.
ah the LGB scratch the shit out of the rail so dirt has more places to hide block. Well at least the rail is a single material so there's no electroplating to sand through.
so just an aside LGB went bankrupt years ago and had been out of busness for a few years until marklin brought it back back in i think 09-10 so if the controller feels cheap is because its not an actual LGB product its from marklin
He got a fancy track cleaning block and a 1 amp controller no wonder its cheap, 1 amp on g scale for anything more than a stainz is stupid id recomend a 5 amp one(that one also feels less cheap) btw scratches are not really a problem, i clean my tracks with sandpaper

They also make track cleaning attachments for the bottom of some rolling stock
There is also the Piko 20 Ton Track cleaner locos.
I actually own it, it’s garbage. It’s so slow, loud and doesn’t actually work well
Hello Ausrail animations
Nothing better to start your morning than watching some model trains running on track to Mario music.
I couldn’t remember where that music was from😂😂
And animal crossing
This sentence sounds like the locomotive is powered by the Music in the background.
*06:14* I cackled when "DS: Delfino Square" started😆
Sorry if this vid seems a little choppier; had some last second editing issues while exporting.
I hope you guys still enjoy though! :)
It’s amazing it does not even look choppy it’s just perfect
Came back from a model train convention to find this. My best day EVER!
If Trainboy keeps this up, he's gonna have the sort of layouts we see in those old TM books videos about train layouts.
I love the look of that narrowgauge locomotive.
Me too, the Stainz is just an icon of an engine. 🤣
The use of Mario Kart Wii music in your videos just really makes them that much more perfect.
Thank you my dude :)
Its always a great day when Trainboy uploads running train footage
Great video! It's good to see you were able to get the trains running again. Its also cool to see some more G scale trains on your channel!
Thank you so much my dude! :)
9:42 Rest in peace little inspection man, you did your job right up until the end.
He was a man of true service 🫡
@@ItsTrainBoy indeed he was
SWEET BAJESUS! that's an impressive track layout! HELL YEAH!
LGB had a special anniversary train called “The Big Blue Train” found it on eBay.
Heck yeah mighty Stienz! Never doubt those little engines!

When will they take over my living room? I’m scared
*They already have*
You can’t stop them…
The g scale revolution has begun
train boy WHY THE HELL IS YOUR BIG ASS PERCY IN MY HOUSE.
TB your content always makes me feel better.

I think TB Should buy Lionel's OLD G-Scale models of Thomas and James and do a review on those. They're vintage, and hard to come by.
i recommend the PIKO track cleaning locomotive. totally worth the money
I love the thumbnail
Man, I just LOVE the mario kart wii music 🎶 💀
Video was🔥 and it made my day! TB out here breaking the loading gauge lol. I can't wait to get into this myself with my kids thank you! 🚂
Awesome. I did the same thing with Lionel O Scale in my living room over christmas (in Australia) G scale is next level though
That thumbnail goes SO hard!!!!!! Amazing video as always
Your engines have invaded your living room
The clang of the workman hitting the stool gets me

Thank you! That was very fun!
The older controller actually has the wall cord permanently wired in.
And is much heavier than the newer controller.
I think the plastic is also higher quality.

Cool. How many old trains do you have and what’s yo ur oldest in your collection?

Father: “Are Ya winning Son”
Son: “Yes, I am. I am winning it at this model layout”.
Awesome video trainboy
also, what song were you using when you started up the Stainz? I know it's Mariokart music, but I dunno which one it is.
Hoping on to see another great vid
I have some track outside which has been there for over a year, I literally didn't clean it once and it still works fine LOL
(unless you count that time I had to remove some bird poo with a rag)
It the one shot there are some RWS books, and what looks like your Dean Goods James and what looks like an...E2 Thomas, care to elaborate?
Great Video!
7:18 You can tell he's not forklift certified because of this clip.
“Happy Birthday Chuck!”
-Wallace, The Windows.
This is a reference to Wallace And Gromit The Wrong Trousers……. I- If you didn’t already get that.
I never clean my track but that's just because my locomotive is a accucraft live steam ruby and the 3 truck shay&4-6-0 are waiting for rc battery power the rough dirty rail gives me better adhesion

I think the original animation used Hornby OO gauge 0-4-0 Chassis with a custom made body and stock to look more vintage.
Checked lgb's website and died of the price of all the stuff.
ALWAYS go second hand; eBay has some gems floating around usually 👀
Can you do a Model Repaint Tutorial? I want to start making customs but theres no tutorial for painting model engines.
Bridewerks is a good company for g scale controllers and they are expensive but their stuff is top tier
how did your engines run on track that bad? My HO ones would die if they so much as looked at that.
Can you use James to pull the consist in another G scale video?
When he’s back! He’s still in a rebuild process elsewhere :)
@@ItsTrainBoy alright
Are you winning train boy
*I THINK SO*
It’s a matter of time because the whole house is covered with track
it took over my house…………run
I feel like the crane car will go well with the construction train
And just think
James could double head that train with Stainz
Mario kart ds defino square music😍
When I set up my G Scale trains in the living room the wifey was definitely unhappy and I had to take it down.😢
if you dont like the controller i could give a suggestion to one that’s higher quality if you’d like
Tbh I’m a little jealous but I love the choice of music
ah the LGB scratch the shit out of the rail so dirt has more places to hide block. Well at least the rail is a single material so there's no electroplating to sand through.
Just curious but could the little knob on the searchlight tower be the cause of it not working
That controls height lol
What class is that engine? I've seen it before but don't know the Class, Guage or Nation.
It's called a 'Stainz' Narrow gauge Austria Locomotive.
This is why I'm running battery operated
Cool
Seeing an LGB 0-4-0 is kinda cute ngl
I agree I have a small engine bias but in G scale it just shines
Still, what do you mean by cursed?…
You’ll have to wait and see.. 🤷♂️
I did this in HO scale.
Personally I use an aristocraft track cleaning car
I have an old LGB controller and it is heavy
*are ya playing trains, son?*
Made this joke from the thumbnail
I wish my room was long enough
Put a golden bear engine in a siding
so just an aside LGB went bankrupt years ago and had been out of busness for a few years until marklin brought it back back in i think 09-10 so if the controller feels cheap is because its not an actual LGB product its from marklin
A perfectly working train after 20+ years, a promise of true German engineering.
...unlike the Deutsche Bahn.
_Whoops_
I read this in a James May voice and can’t stop laughing at it- 😭
Is no-one gonna question why he's still got a Christmas tree I his house
Laziness ngl 💀
