This has been in my top ten UA-cam watches of all time... since it was uploaded. My family can tie them in our sleep now, but that doesn't diminish a thing, in terms of pure one-to-one tutorial content... a UA-cam masterclass in how to teach a skill.. I still love watching it. Very much appreciated (love your other content too, goes without saying). Many thanks, Mikey
Finally someone ties it the way I always have! All the tutorials have you wrap from the bottom to top and then back through the bottom. This is way better
Out of curiosity why do you think this version is better? It would make sense that the bottom up wrap puts the tightest coil, the first one, right up against the tag trying to be pulled through. Versus having the last coil which relies on that loop for tension and knot security to be the tag stop. In addition to having more of the loop outside the coils where some slip can occur. Just seems the standard way where the tag end just needs to be secured and isn't critical tension is the better way to go.
Another vote for your video being the very best video on snelling circle hooks. I struggled with other techniques for years that all seemed to required magic fingers I don't possess.
Straightforward, nicely delivered information mate. Particularly like the tubing idea to protect the line from the eye closure. Ive only recently bought some off set eye, circle hooks and was immediately concerned about the angle of the line leaving the eye and the possibility of damage to it. Your video just solved that problem!
This is a masterful video. I've watched tons of these videos and I haven't been able to follow any of them up to now for this knot. Excellent!!! Thank you very much for the WHY explanations too. I'm going to be killer in the water now... :-)
Great knowledge to have, especially when the only hooks I use other than the occasional ganged hooks are circles. From the very smallest for Whiting or Bream to 8 and 9/0 for bigger reefies they are so much better than " normal " hooks. Once you learn the " set and forget " method there's no going back! And I can't remember the last gut hooked fish I had!
So I guess I should use this know for all my hooks especially circle hooks, and use the uni know for every thing else? Thanks for all your videos ultimate fishing team
Circle hooks are a welcomed example of a technology from commercial fishing crossing over into amatuer fishing. I was shown how to do a snell knot using a different technique. It didn't consider the memory in the line etc. I think your technique would be closer to what they do on long line boats. That said the long line boats use some pretty thick line in tying to the hook.
Thanks so much for the small vs large understanding and the mono twist tips!!!! I’m learning and I LOVED your explanations, each covered something of importance!!! ❤️
Does it matter if you go through the loop from above or below at the end?? Sometimes my loop gets a bit twisted so I don't know what was the original side-up anymore
With the rubber band trick, check out this video on how Matt rig it. www.ultimatefishing.tv/home/video/492/improve-your-hook-up-rate-the-rubber-band-trick
I've tried for hours and whatever I do, I can't get the top loop to stay at the top. Whenever I'm making the second loop, the first slips below it. I don't think I have clever enough fingers to tie the knot in this style

Learning the snell knot with circle hooks was a complete game changer for me.
Like wise mate
Watching in 2021, this is the best video for tying a knot, lots of other videos have terrible quality and don't have a good camera angle. Thanks!
BY FAR! The best video on the snell knot. Thank you.
Extremely clear and concise; thank you!
This is THE best method of attaching circle hooks.
Definitely the best video I found for how to make s Snell knot. There are many but this one was to easiest to follow and perform. Thanks
Beginner fisher, saw this one of the leaders already set up, super helpful in learning how to tie more types of knots
Best demonstration of tying a snell knot I've seen.
Straightforward, nicely delivered information mate.

Best knot advice EVER.
Best video regarding the smell knot out there.
I haven't had a hook come off in years, but the past 2 weeks I've had 5 come off. Time to switch to this knot, thanks!

Beautiful knot, perfect explanation, beautiful shimano stella

Thanks a lot for this snell knot video. Really key for me knowing you're tying this on to 600# and less lines. BOL always....
Awesome video on snelling a hook. Thanks!
Excellent informative video. Thank you! Question: What is the additional "slide onto mono protective material", and who makes or sells it?
What an excellent demonstration..
Just came back to this video to comment that I have yet to have this knot slip on me. Catching stripers over 30lb with it. Thanks again!
Perfect instructional video! Thanks!
Your videos was the only one I understood! Thanks now I can Snell my hooks !😀👍👍👍

It's a bit hard to see from the video - but do you put the wraps over the top of the chafe tube?
Outstanding
Thanks so much for the small vs large understanding and the mono twist tips!!!! I’m learning and I LOVED your explanations, each covered something of importance!!! ❤️

nice video, i have learnt something from this
beautiful job,Accurate and clear,Thankyou
Should I use this instead of the Uni Knot for 12lb line and a 2/0 circle hook? And can you still do this on a circle hook that has an angled eye?
Great video. I love that knot
So do you use the circle hooks in trolling skirts or only on bait?
Studied 1 hour now to test it today 😎here I come reds
Thank you so much this will be such a great help for me
1:41 too funny, I've been searching far and wide for 4lb. braid for trout fishing and your fishing for moby
I learned something new. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this masterful video. Very clear and helpful. What brand and type of Circle hook are you using in the beginning (0.30 second)?
VMC circle hooks
@@UltimateFishingTV, thanks a lot. What size is this (at 30 sec) and a specific type of VMC?
Thats a VMC Tournament Circle 3x Strong size 10/0
@@UltimateFishingTV Thanks a lot for sharing the information. Wish you all the best!
Fantastic video
Why go through the front side of the hook eye? I’m only curious as Peter Pakula talks about the point being in line with the direction of pull.
Hey Antz. He might be talking about J hooks, as with a circle hook you want it to roll into the corner of the mouth.
The only reason I’m going to learn this knot is cause it looks cool 😂
Would u snell ur hook over using a crimp in 150 flor carbin leader Seaguar ..?witch would u prefer?
Great information,very helpful!!! Thanks
Should I look for Circle hooks with a longer shank...any suggestions...oh...freshwater..trout...4lb fluoro. leader
Is this knot a tougher tie with 15-20lbs mono?
ok the best video....
Is the knot possible with wire, for sharks?
Great Videos...
Greeting from México
How many feet of leader do you think for cubera ?
What is the name of the sleeve you put over the line?
How many turns would you recommend for 12lb Fluro?
Well Done
Good Job
By the way, I use 10 pound braid for catfish.
What brand and size is that hooks?
where do you get the stong of leader
Thank you for the info and the video how to.👍👍👍🇺🇸
Thank you.
genius the small things count
Thank you
Thanks!
Can I tie this knot with 80lb braid for catfish?
Will this knot work with fluorocarbon since fluro has more memory and tends to unwind
Yes it will, we would tie this know more often with fluorocarbon than monofilament.
why did you go throught the front of the eye on one hook and then the back of the eye on a different hook?
Nice video
I like the video and ....your accent!
Brilliant, thanks. Go the wallabies
Hey Mat! what circle hook tou use for marlin¿?¿??¿?¿ Thank's!
12
15 sec in to the video you hold up a rig with a ball sincer just up from the hook. How do you get the sinker to stay there?
With the rubber band trick, check out this video on how Matt rig it. www.ultimatefishing.tv/home/video/492/improve-your-hook-up-rate-the-rubber-band-trick
Anyone know what types of rod and sipping reel is that with the yellow line?
It's a Shimano Stella on an Abyss rod.
Ultimate Fishing omg thanks!!!
Badass
This is great, thanks!
This the 3rd different way I have seen to tie the same knot
I totally agree!
Are you saying “shrink” tube?
Chafe tube, to guard against abrasions
A version of the snell eliminates the need for chaff guard .. the power snell
I've tried for hours and whatever I do, I can't get the top loop to stay at the top. Whenever I'm making the second loop, the first slips below it. I don't think I have clever enough fingers to tie the knot in this style
