The egg-knot is one of the first I was taught. We use it to tie on roe for Salmon and Steelhead fishing. Works great! Unfortunately older age and arthritis makes the knot a wee bit more difficult these days. Tip for you young wiper-snappers: Get your self a large hook and cut the pointy-end off and remove or crimp down any barbs... This makes an excellent practice tying hook when you're sitting around or even in bed. Tie a handful of knots before you go to sleep. A little each night helps build muscle-memory. Thank you for the video!
That first knot I’ve used since I was a little kid. It was on the back of a lure packet and it’s worked every time since I learnt it. I've used it on swings for kids and also in camping.
I picked up fishing this year as something to do on the weekends with my son..I've literally used your videos to help get me get set up and catching fish. Just want to say Thank you!
one of the small things I appreciate about this video is the guidance on finger work while tying these knots. If I had a video of me tying these knots with my current finger work, it might go viral lol. finger work should make me more efficient as my son is just starting so he's getting hung up on a lot of stuff and I'm tying a lot
i'm no fisherman. i came here because of knot tying. you did a good job in the technique and the why. i teach knot tying, and nobody EVER (ok, nearly nobody ever) heard about a hard knot and just decided THAT'S FOR ME! but knots are useful and peopel who can tie knots won't ever lose a bookshelf off the top of a car on the interstate.
This dude taught me alot about fishing than any other UA-cam videos.. just want to say thanks to you. I started out catching small fishes to now catching tuna and blue marlins.
Wow! this is a very informative video. Hey Skipper is a professor of Technique Excellent technique making it easy to do by applying it and practicing it as much as possible.. I use to know how to tie these knots when i was a young boy.. My dad would drop me and my twin brother off at the lake where we lived and we spent every day in the summer fishing, for years. We met this older man there who had been a fisherman for more than 60 years and we spent as much time with him as we could and he taught us many great things about techniques and knot tying etc etc etc and he became our mentor on how to catch the big ones but more importantly on being good kids and being only 14 years old the things he taught us were like gold nuggets . i have since forgotten some of the techniques about knots but i still know about 3 or 4 different ones.. and i remember that old sweet man..His name was Bryce.. I'm sure he has since passed on being this was more than 50 years ago but i will always remember that kind old man who taught me and my twin how to tie knots and i have since taught my grand kids the same things we learned.. Paying it Forward ..!
That was instructive. All these years that I have tied off gut I have been making it harder than it needs to be. As a non-fisher I never realised that you should sacrifice six inches of line and then tying knots becomes easy enough for a child to do. I have always wasted time making knots with an inch of tail on gut and having to be patient and meticulous. I learnt something new today.
I realize that this video is from 2 years ago, but I have always used the first two clinch knots for fishing, I've even tied a snell knot while using hooks, but I can't tell you how appreciative I am of you showing us specifically how to tie these knots. I've been looking for different knots to use.
I only ever use two knots uni to uni for braid to fluoro and palomar for everything else they have never failed me and i have never needed anything else but love what your doing man we need to teach and help everyone we can to help keep our passion for fishing alive for the future generations
I'm knot obsessesed! This is one of the best knot videos I've seen. Good job. I was having issues learning to tie a good snell. Love that last snell you showed. Just back today from a mid Oct trip to CAPE POINT. The fishing was very slow everywhere. No drum caught by anyone at the point the three days I fished it. The point shape has changed and I think the fish are out far and going around an island that use to be the tip of the point.
It’s insane how detailed this gets. I missed putting the string in the second loop on the improved clinch knot and the whole thing ended up coming loose while fishing. I had to return to this video to see what I did wrong. Thank you for this!
@private2371there are a few baits like that, but in general if the eye is too small for a Palomar putting one end through then back, then you're using too thick of line.
Tested a lot of knots. The Palomar is the strongest and easiest knot to use. If the line cant go trough the eye of the hook twice, really good chance your using WAY to large of a line to start with.. You dont need 40lbs mono for small Brim from your pond.. LOL
I'm having to Re-Learn these things after loosing memories due to stroke several years ago. Just starting to get back into fishing. Thank You for this information, and now I'm subscribed ready to view more of your tutorials.
I have used the first one, the improved clinch knot, since I was a teenager. I am 57 now and I have NEVER had a knot slip. The number of times the line has broken at the knot I could probably count on one hand and in all of those instances it should probably have been retied. Improved clinch knot rules!
the snell knot was the first one I learned from my father thinking it was our knot (in fact I didn't even know the name), only we use it on hooks with a "flat head", always reliable (we are Italian but I don't know if the others in fact they do so) ... I am new here and happy to have found this channel, I like the way you bring and show the topics covered from time to time👍
I always love watching your videos! And that you leave in the funny bloopers… its all good. Going to use one of those for big cat fishing around all the rocks and concrete structures..
I wanted to give a like and subscribe, but then I noticed I already did that last year. I think this just shows how good your videos are. LOL. Thanks for nice tutorials!
I've been fishing since a child but NO ONE taught me how to tie proper knots, I just kinda did random knots and just hope they held 😅 I mean it worked but thank you guys for the videos that show how to tie proper knots, I think the Snell is going to be my go to. Now just to find which set up would be best, especially for my kids. Just got them some brand new spinner Ugly Stik combos to learn on, they're only about 3'6" so perfect for them to learn with, the closed reels were causing issues casting and the spinner was always easiest for me as a kid so that's what I got them 😊
Learned 3rd knot from father when i was young and use it all the time, really good knot for any hook, even one without eye. Cool trick with 4th knot, definitly going to try when i forget to take metal leads :D
This video was an amazing refresher on knots. I always use the no-disappoint knot but instead of twisting and passing through an eye I form a simple square knot and pass the hoop over the hook and tackle and bind it. Way less steps, virtual unbreakable, and less excess to cut
Love this video!!! I’ve been looking at many vids on the egg loop knot to learn it and this one is the absolute best! Fantastic job with the camera angle, line selection, and finger work. Explaining each step of the way is super helpful too. New subscriber right here!
Same here. Was looking for a refresher on the egg loop knot after being taught by a guide up here in Alaska years ago. It’s the way to go if your fishing for salmon. 👍🏼
I use the Snell knot for most of my fishing. I use eyed hooks for sea fishing but, spade end for most of my freshwater fishing. It works perfectly on both.
Knot 4 is a perfect knot for me here in southern Idaho fishing large rainbows and browns over abrasive lava rock and threading night crawlers onto hook and line!!👍 Thanks Brother!!
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot the account password. I love any tips you can offer me
Hola. Just to let you know I really enjoy all your videos. Gracias for sharing your knowledge. And I send you and to all your family a big hug from Playa del Carmen México 😃🎣
Good knots. That looks like a collection of Mitchell reels behind you. I have fished with the old 300s, 308s and 302s for the last fifty years. Great reels even still today!
A man after my own heart! I have a large collection of 300s, 308s, 304s and the "high speed" models of the same in the 400 models. I also have salt water Mitchels, the 306 and the 406. I also have 2 salt water bait casters with no level wind a 600 and 602A. What was cutting edge 50 years ago is now antique and high speed was nothing like it is today. However, there is a large supply of parts to repair them if they break and upgrade the drag systems. Ebay is a treasure trove for me because I simply won't retire them! I still don't own any newer spinning reels and mine get regular use. I'm 67 and remember when the Mitchel 300 was considered to be "top of the line" and in my mind, it still is. I still have the very reel my parents bought for me when I was a kid and begged them for one for my birthday one year.
This man is using an amazing microphone. I’m listening to this with my headphones and I literally thought someone was on my roof! Had me paranoid and checking!
Thank you so much. I never had anyone to teach me anything about fishing. I've been learning through trial and error for the last 12 years, and I've always been curious how to tie a proper fisherman's knot.
I learned a snell knot early and use it for everything lol. The snell with a twist looks amazing. I’ll be doing that when fishing around sneaky stuff that’ll break me off. Good stuff!
G'day, Luv ya channel mate. Fair dinkum you make stuff look so simple. I reckon I'm about the same age as ya old man, with respect, he seems like a cool Dad. Keep up the great footage and if ever you're down under, look us up and we'll down a frothy. Cheers.

How have you been going over the last year?
Are you still fishing

This dude taught me alot about fishing than any other UA-cam videos.. just want to say thanks to you.

Finally got this egg loop down. Thanks

If you can't tie a knot..... learn
@@nickster5286 yes which implies practice, or tying a lot of knots like Dave said. 😊
Constant tension or ur knot falls apart , and practice with bigger line and carabineer, etc.

Palomar knot is the only hook knot you'll ever need. It's super quick and easy to tie and I've never even heard of one failing.
@private2371 if the eye is too small you can put one through and then feed it back through to make the loop.
@private2371there are a few baits like that, but in general if the eye is too small for a Palomar putting one end through then back, then you're using too thick of line.
Three sets of trebles on a bait can make it tough. The Trilene knot is perfect to have in your arsenal as well.

Good video and like how the focus shows everything really well

The egg loop knot is such a great idea. Thanks.

Yes I don't know what it's called but very easy and it works, hardest part is getting the doubled line through the eye of hook.
Easy for you to say. I'm getting so old I find it hard to thread the line through the hook.
When I do get it right I and up making a fishing net. : )
Super cool stuff there!
Been using that first knot for the past 56 years...never failed me.
Dopest knot video I've seen 👍🏼
Uni knot for me, fast ,easy and very rarely breaks, I've pulled up 8 foot sharks with it, easy to tie when rolling around in the swell
