Great Video
circle hug no good, the fish get outs, I trie that’s, many times🐟
If you aren't already doing it, you need to make sure you use a snell knot on the circle hook.
I don't know about freshwater rules but in the saltwater it's illegal to use offset circle hooks in some states and situations. For example in VA you have to use non offset non stainless circle hooks with bait for stripers and cobia. In Florida the same rules apply for reefs. I don't know about other places, so just be sure it's legal to use the gear you want to use no matter where you fish or what you fish for.
I have a few questions, where are the videos to use for snell knots? Also I fish with 30-40 pound braid on a spinning rod , so you feel like that’s to heavy of a line for bayou/ salt water fishing ? And what do you feel like is the best material for leaders to paid up with braid ? Thanks !
Good stuff Luke! When you say soft tip what action is that? Fast, moderate, moderate fast, something else? Every manufacturer seems to describe them differently and it's really hard to tell when ordering online.
Something with a good soft tip is a huge benefit with circles, definitely not fast, moderate to slow
Hi, i am mainly using a circle hook for pike bobber fishing and have no clue on when to set the hook after bobber goes down. Sometimes fish will be swimmimg away and sometimes they will swim towards the boat or just go sideways. No sure on when to set hook on all three of these scenarios, thanks
Im buying 10/0 circle hooks for pacific halibut - gamakatsu straight eye, in line 4x shank. In that its NOT a turned up eye Im thinking I should still use a snell knot as opposed to a clinch knot. My line will exit eye of hook on barb side or front of hook which when tension starts setting hook should still properly embed barb into fishes mouth. My other option is to buy turned up eye version of same hook. Any advice? Am I good?
Good info. What happened to Northwoods angling and tomcat rods
Northwoods Is on an extended break and I'm not sure if Tommy is still making rods or not, this is my own thing away from our Northwoods channel
please, what s average circle hook sz for striper ?
Amen son, I'll learn till the day I start casting in heaven.
The no knot snell has been my favorite knot to use for decades, but it is not the strongest. The line will cut on itself under a heavy quick load. Secondly, an offset on a circle hook is an oxy-moron.
Filling me full of more info to beat you on Saturday..
What size circle hooks do you recommend for 20+lb blues and shovels
6,s or 8,s depending on the size bait.
@@jamescraig8601what about 7s?
Offset circle hooks defeat the only purpose of a circle hook (which is to protect the fish's gut and gills). If you're using an offset circle hook, just use a J hook (you'll get more hookups)
Strongly disagree with everything you just said. Tried them all, caught thousands of fish on them. That's the thing about opinions though, it's just that
@@FishOnLuke it's basic geometry, the circle hook works by the tip of the hook being inline with the shank. When the tip is offset, it's unprotected and it's no different than a J hook. Here's a simple test you can do at home, take an online and offset circle hook and connect both to a short length of line or string. Now slowly drag both across a length of carpet and observe the difference
@@FishOnLuke the [inline] circle hook is designed to not gut hook. It does this by reducing how the hook can hook into things. So by very definition it has less potential to hook something than does a J hook. A circle hook is basically a J hook that hooks under fewer conditions.
@@FishOnLuke it's not opinion, it's objective fact how and why the circle hook does what it does.
While fishing with offset circle hooks they sometimes hook deep in Throat or swallow it. Not a fan!
They are the safest hook in the entire planet to avoid a deep throat hook, not sure what you're referring to
I usually fill the hook whith bait as the bait is still soft shad and it can fall of easy
Not a fan of the offset circle hook.
Had to quit watching because you are spreading false info about offset circle hooks.
That's the thing with opinions, we each have em
@@FishOnLuke Opinions are one thing, proof is another. Go ahead and take two circle hooks, one offset and one not. Drag them across the carpet. The offset one is the one that will catch on fish guts like it does the carpet. You voted for Biden, didn't you?
You wouldn't know the difference Unless you try using both , as long as the circle hook is big enough, the fish wouldn't get gut hooked ,
@@Professor4555 ok "professor." You don't know what I know. If you have a different opinion, then try voicing it with respect. Not some smartass 14 year old shit.
@@robertmceuen3630 No Bob, I believe he voted for Trump, and circle hooks on shag carpets will snag every time. Is shag carpet fishing catch and release? 😎
