sounds awesome! Please do a kyuss one
Need a them crooked vultures one next
Dude you are still the king of replicating those Homme tones. Hell yeah. Sounds awesome.
I’m the queen of replicating those tones
And the playing is always great on these videos.
Awesome video, I own the HX Stomp and now I was able to get the QQTSA tone thanks to you. Would love to see more videos with the HX Stomp.
Always think its funny when people talk about digital harshness when mentioning the cuts they put on the guitar when using a modeler, but it never gets mentioned when recording real cabs and making the same cuts :') We don't always hear with our ears, if we did we could save ourselves a lot of money in a lot of places
Yeah I do those same cuts when mixing a live band too lol (yes, even on tube amps...), guitar cabs can get really harsh on the audience ears.....
youve nailed josh hommes tone over and over why not try tackle troy van leeuwens guitar tone that would make an epic recording to have both joshs tones and troys tones, i have seen it time and time again in qotsa live performances especially these days you can really hear that its not just josh that makes the queens sound, i think troy is just as important.
dean too
Troy is very open about what gear he uses unlike josh so I feel a video like that is less necessary
that is extremely true...@@3xtan327
Nice! Been looking for exactly this.
Great Qotsa Tone. Have many thanks for it. ❤ I will test.
Awesome as usual
Best ever motivation for me to buy one. Thanks!
For QOTSA tones I like hoping between the Stone Age and doom amp. Great video dude
I just dialed this in on my own Stomp and it's absolutely spot-on. Thank you!
Also, to free up a block, you could use the Amp+Cab block, then put a Hi/Low EQ block at the end to get around using the global EQ. Just an option I played with.
Can you choose the same cab and settings when doing the amp+cab block? Or is that limited?
@@LivingroomGearDemos using Amp+Cab is the exact same as using an amp and single cab, with all the settings available. It didn't look like you used a dual cab so it should sound exactly the same!
Doesn’t the Amp+Cab block take up the same amount of DSP as having an Amp and Cab separate?
@@LemonMeIonit does but it frees up a block space to add something else. In Eirik's preset all the available block slots are used but there's still DSP available.
Oh man, this is a gift
You really know how to dial-in that tone. Really great content, Eirik! Cheers
Thanks buddy!
Selling all my analog pedals to buy a HX Stomp haha just kiding but your work on that was awesome, you eliminated the "digital thing" of that.
great sounds.
This makes me happy.
uhhh I was waiting for you to try some qotsa with helix stuff, thanku!
That’s great, thanks a lot! I don’t own the HX Stomp; however, I’m definitely gonna try to use that as a guidelines to setup Josh Homme inspired patch on my Valeton GP-200.
If you do, please share! I sold my Stomp and now use a GP-200. Not sure I'm sold on it though.
That sounds ace! Really impressed with the sound design!
I’d love to see some a video on Troy’s tone aswell
I already have patch called Josh on my HX Stomp. So, I had compare my take with yours :) My is more rudimentary and didn't spend as much time with it. It missing delay and reverb. As far as I remember I used 8x10 as cab. I also using Retro Reel a the end of every patch and use its high/low cut to shelve frequencies under 60Hz and above around 10kHz.
God damn you, you made me buy the Hx stomp. 😤
Wishing this vid was longer ;) ;)
Gold!
love this. been trying to get some good QOTSA tones recently on my stomp. perfect timing. Would love to see you do one for Troy’s tones now. :)
Great video. Crack kills. Love my Zoom MS-50. I gotta good deal at GC on the Jackson Audio Golden Boy. That's supposed to have a Klon mode, but I've only messed with-haven't dove in yet. Always interested in trying a few of the super cheap and boutiqey clonesAnd of course, I'll always want to try a Friedman amp one day.
You should have done a PhD in these QOTSA tones... you just mastered all of them... I think they themselves don't know that much of their own tone as you do...🙌 Respect!
Top ❤
Hi Eirik, would you upload more hx stomp related videos?
yeah, probably
@@LivingroomGearDemos thanks! Your sound is rad! Cheers
Always appreciate your content @livingroomgeardemos. I have an HX Effects and am trying to piece this together... What are the reverb settings? Dynamic Room?
Room reverb with short decay and 10-15% mix. But I don't use it that much.
@@LivingroomGearDemos I appreciate the response! Your videos are the best!
You should add "Pod GO" to the title, you will get more views and it works there as well :) Awesome content, as always, thank you so much.
So you could do exactly the same on the Pod Go?
@@LivingroomGearDemos yes Sir
Thanks for letting me know, man! Added now
Pof Go owner here, did the same setup and can't get the same result, sounds almost clean and too bright, don't know why.
@@PabloCanizo It also dependens on your speaker/heaphones, what do you use? I am using headrush 108 and some cheap AKG studio heaphones and it sounds really good, very close to the video. Do you have updated soft with helix IRs?
the sound is pretty damn close to qotsa sound !
7:45 "yeeeeheeeee! Im a freak!"
8:10 at -6.9 db the compressor never actually turns on, you're getting a level boost from the level function but there's no way to pump enough signal to activate the compressor. I'm using it on the Helix and it never turns on, unless I say move it to -30 db or thereabouts and really strum hard.
What a coincidence. I was just debating getting an HX Stomp.
Sounds a lot like my peavey practice amp
Hi, I was wondering if you could help. Would Josh homme place a boss ge7 before or after an overdrive pedal? Thanks
Amazing! i just don't get why you've put the delay and the eq before the amp and the compressor at the end, I would have done the opposite. Also you can cut 60 Hz and 8 kHz in the cab block, as there's already a high cut and low cut knob in there
I place the delay and EQ before the amp because Josh has those in front of his amps. Compressor is meant to simulate a studio compressor which comes after the recorded signal. Yes, you can cut on the cab block as well, but in my experience you can clearly hear that a global EQ cuts more than what the cab block does.
This is the best pedalboard , it has 3000 effects
- A wise man
What a man he was. RIP
Do you boost the signal when you switch from an ES-335 to Telecaster, or is the Tele output high enough?
No, but the song required less gain anyways for the tele. Think I even turned the gain down with the tele
You can adjust the pedals and amp?
Yes?
The tone grew on me, does it feel flubby?
not at all
Was putting delay before distortion a conscious decision? As usually it comes after but it sounds great
It depends on what sound you're after. Delay and reverb are usually used in the FX-loop of amps today (or after an amp sim if you're ITB), but back in the day when amps didn't have FX-loops all pedals and FX were used in front of the amp. The built-in spring reverb on Fender amps for example is placed right after the pre-amp, before the power amp and speaker. It's practically the same thing as placing a reverb pedal in front of the amp since the pre-amp on Fender amps are supposed to be as close to linear as possible (i.e all distortion in Fender amps comes from the power amp). TL;DR delay and reverb after the amp=modern sound, delay and reverb in front of the amp=vintage tone
@@nj1255 I ask because he has the delay before the distortion pedals, not just the amp or fx loop. Thanks tho
@@nj1255 what you are describing as the fender spring reverb is actually EXACTLY like putting it in an FX loop and not involving the preamp👍
I love having delay before drive or distortion for the textures you can get and from what I hear on albums, especially from the 90s, I'm pretty sure a lot of bands have done that
@@BeesWaxMinder Yes, on any other amp that uses the pre-amp for distortion it would be like that, but not really on a Fender. Fender amps are a bit backwards in terms of having super clean pre-amps and easily distorting power amps. The only Fender power amps that don't distort easily are the very high wattage ones.
Time to dust off my HX Stomp...
you should try cutting the EQ at 30hz. It would probably make it even more focused..
I’m low cutting under 60hz anyway, so
Great video. It really takes a knowledgeable ear to dial in the hx tones and settings. Any chance you would make a HX preset? I’d buy it.
