@Fellmandave1 yeah that's true but I think it will be great for spring and summer and it was a great deal during the Kuiu sale which included the footprint and gear loft
The storm star was far more stable, and there is no need for any extra treking poles to support it, unlike the vern 1. To compare the two side by side, he needed to show the inner and outer of both throughout the video. Had he done this, he would have clearly seen and demonstrated better stability, less inner flapping, etc, of the Kuiu Storm star. There is no need to sleep at an angle in the Kuiu Storm star 2. The Storm star 2 is cavernous inside, plenty of space, and with a negligible weight difference to say that Kuiu storm star 2 is a two person tent. Take away the treking poles on the Vern one, then compare.
Nice to see the Vern 1 being put to the test. I've had mine out in up to 45mph gusts and with no issues at all. The uprated poles make all the difference.
You can pack the Storm star down to a size that is just bigger than the Hilleberg Soulo. You can pack it quite small and pack it into a 40ltr Kakawa sideways on.
Hi Dave I know you have a good relationship with the guys at Nortent, any chance you could get clarity on the crossing of the poles on the Vern series as there is a lot of chatter about whether pole bend is good and how do you keep that bend to a level where strength isn’t compromised and does the way you cross the pole increase or decrease this. Many Thanks
There is a fair bit of this on the Facebook NORTENT owners page. Any clarity there? It's not a problem I have had except on the Vern 2 with the first poles.
I find myself undecided between these two tents. Could you provide a space assessment for the Vern 1? I prefer to store my 65L backpack and equipment inside the inner excluding my footwear which will stay in the vestibule. I'm also concerned that the tapered ends, combined with a larger sleeping pad and inclement weather, might cause the inner tent to contact the outer tent. What's your option. Thanks in advance.
@@Roadie1980 I have normally been very happy with the vern 1 space. But I did find myself struggling to get away from the dude walk buffetingredients on that night. Important side note, as the storm star is pu lined, it may not last as long.............Good luck. Both cool tents!
Thank you for your prompt response. Could you please provide your assessment of the Vern 1's tapered end design regarding available space for a sleeping pad? My rectangular sleeping pad measures 183 x 64 cm. Do you think I'd get away with that size in the Vern 1? Thanks in advance. ☺️ @@Fellmandave1
Dave, hoping you can resolve my quandary! I have decided to branch out into more inclement weather so looking to pick up my first 4 season tent. I can't decide between the Soulo, Storm Star or Vern. Leaning more towards the Storm Star I think. Cost isn't a big driver. The main issue is I'm 6'3 so I think the Soulo would be too tight. I could go diagonal in the Storm Star. I love the design of the Vern but I feel the other two would hold up better in worse weather? What do you think mate? As always, thank you for all the content you get out there, it's inspiring!
@@baldandoutdoors tricky one. I have not found the vern wanting . Plus the longevity of the pu inner and pack size of the ss is an issue. If it is out and out storm weather go ss, for everything else go vern.

I noticed as you showed the wind speed in the morning that a couple of the clips that attach to the poles were undone, had you done that or had they come off during the night?
I'm from United States Arizona I've had the storm star in 80 mile hour winds great tent so is the Nord tent. But the best tent of the world I know is the hilleberg the Black label That's a fact my friends in Europe. By the way great video
@Fellmandave1 My opinion is the Black label soulo is a great tent with professional highly quality tent and what I like is it's made in Europe not in China I hope I don't piss anybody off. And I love your videos they're great
Cheers Nick. Great to hear the SS can manage such things. The soulo is the boy to be sure, just not a lot of space compared to these. Thanks again for commenting.
"I have got quite a lot of floor condensation...and in these conditions it's no surprise". Is that because of the inner letting water through after touching the outer? Or is it actual condensation? I have had condensation on single-wall tents on the inner/condensation against the outer with double wall tent and a slight film of damp on my 4-season tent inner walls with really ghastly weather but no issues with a damp/wet ground floor. (I do use a ground floor). My choice is the KUIU here.
Well, you can think whatever you want but............... I have a Hilleberg Keron, a KUIU Storm Star and a Nortent Ly 3 (and others, not that I am a tent fetishist or anything), and in those conditions, without doubt, it would be the Storm Star that I would put in my pack. @bobmatthew9538 Even the Hilleberg tents leak sometimes. My name is David and i am a tentoholic. I've been a recovering tentoholic for many years now. I have the Hilliberg Soulo and the Kuiu storm star 2, plus other tents. I admit that my addiction is not easing😂😂😂😂😂
I can't answer for the Vern 1, but the latest batch of Nortent Ly's are now coming seem sealed from the factory, I was pleasantly surprised to find (with seam sealer, not tape)
One of the downside to the kuiu ss is the bag it fits in its like a smartie tube .lol 🤣 not good when all you want to do is get out of the winds and rain fast but instead your wrestling with a bloody tent bag lol .i soon changed mine I'd rather change the bag and add a couple of ounces and be stress free lol 😂😂
I've had it out in nasty conditions. 50mph measured gusts. Although I was a little more sheltered from where I took that so possibly a bit less.. Anyway it held up fantastically. And the good thing because pc is hardly any noise whatsoever. I actually had to get out to make sure the wind was still raging. This was with the old poles, and the original version... IMO the PC due to the fabric is a stronger tent.. (I've had the vern 1 as well. Decided to keep the PC. Of the two.
