@patrickobrien8902 I hiked up Slievecushnabinnia, in hindsight, I should have camped close to the trail up near the wall but I'm a sucker for a good view 😆
Oh my goodness that was really awful weather with strong winds, muddy and sodden wet ground, before you even got the tent up, but you kept your nerve and pushed forward...that's some achievement. That tent withstood all the heavy gail and rain in a wide open area, so I'm definitely interested in buying one. You weren't kidding when you said you weren't on a flat level ...geez it showed the slant when you filmed in the morning. You passed a hard test Jason which means it can only get better from here on in. You are a lot tougher than you thought...tough but with a hearty laugh. 😁❤
Thank you Molly, I was very impressed with the tent and even happier that I didn't break it 😆 I'm trying to get some experience int hat type of weather so as we head into the winter I feel more confident in my abilities. Thank you so much for joining me🙌🍀
@@RamblingOn I'm still prepping...not quite ready to stay overnight in the dark let alone winter, but I do like getting as much hints and tips. The do's and don'ts. Hya mate , great videos , would you mind telling me what ground chair you have ? and is there plenty of height to sit up in the vern 1 ? and yeah laugh as much as you like 👍
Hey Darren, the chair is from crazy creek. Here is a little video I did for it ua-cam.com/video/XMmN5JOqx8Q/v-deo.htmlsi=D8AXPosL-Q5iZBOU As for the Vern, I can't really say to be honest. That pitch was so bad that I've no doubt it impeded on the headroom inside. I could sit up, my head was slightly touching but maybe with a proper pitch it will be better. It was comfortable as it was but if I think of it I'll try comment on the headroom the next time I have it out. Thanks for joining me 🙌
Hey Jason.. that VEIW down yonder with the rainbow 🌈 looked absolutely beautiful .. " I CAN'T HEAR MYSELF THINK " haven't heard that expression in a long time..😅 That cherry blueberry cobbler is a pudding/ desert very yummy .. Great video plenty of RAIN 💦 keep laughing and be happy ❤
Oh yeah I was very lucky to get that view even though it only lasted a short while. There were two rainbows at one point if you look closely. The blueberry cobbler will be nice on one of the longer winter nights, thanks for letting me know what it is because honestly I hadn't a clue😄 Thank you for joining me on this one 🍀
Great video. I nearly bought the Vern 1 last year but then there were those initial concerns and I went for the Abisko Lite 1 (which you used to have). Happy with that for now but may invest next year.
I've seen all of that drama that went on but I reckon a tent should be judged on it's own merits. The Abisko is a great little tent, I sold it for two reasons, I found it hard to get in and out of.. Setting up cameras means I get in and out of tents a lot more than most people. I've seen some of your videos so you know what I mean. The other reason is I didn't have enough headroom inside which made it uncomfortable for those longer nights especially with a bad back. I don't think there's a single pole tent that I could sit up in apart from maybe a Scarp one.. Thanks a million for joining me on this one 🙌🍀
@@RamblingOn Agree entirely - though I am lucky not to have a bad back (yet) I am quite a bit older and much larger so am feeling quite confined in the Abisko. And as for filming- yeah very hard indeed! It seems that a lot of the faff over the Vern 1 was just nothing really and I have since seen video where it has stood up to some really strong storms and so I will likely change up next year. Lovely looking tent with lots of room too. Chuffed you watch my videos too, thanks! Not on your level yet though! Keep up the great work. -Hedley
New sub mate. Greeting from a rainy S. Wales 🏴👍 Fantastic video and great effort in them conditions...Love it, smiling all the way through 😂😂 That's what camping is all about. 👌I've just received my new Vern 1 and really looking forward to getting out in her buddy. Stay safe mate, take care. 🏕️👍😁
hahaha love the camping spot! i have definitely had my fair share of uneven spots, i even slept on a pile of rocks 2 years ago at the beginning of a month long camping trip i did in Haweewee
@@RamblingOn it was a tough night sleep, especially when it started to rain and i found out that my new rainfly was definitely not waterproof like it had been advertised lol. but i met a really nice homeless guy and did some fishing with him in the morning. there's a short 2min video on my channel if you wanna see the spot. it's one of the 2 short vids right at the top of the landing page, in the playlist called "When the plan goes to 💩", so it's easy to find lol
Hey, theyre both nice tents but I do prefer one ocer the other. The vern is bigger inside with more pockets and two doors. The ground sheet can't be permantely attached unless you modify it somehow, and I found it tricky to pitch if the ground isn't ideal. Ive also noticed that the zips tend to catch more pften than not. The Soulo is easier to pitch, in my opinion. The groundsheet can be permanently attached, it feels a lot more solid even if the ground isn't spot on. The zips are very noisy in the wind but you can add some bungee to them, which completely fixes that. Both tents weigh pretty much the same although if you go for a black label soulo they're 400g heavier. Honestly, I'd chose the Soulo any day. I was lucky to get mine second hand which made it even better and they're the strongest tents on the market so for peace of mind I think it's worth it. Even if you don't plan on being out in rough conditions, sometimes, as you know the weather can take a turn.
@@RamblingOnthanks so much. Very helpful. All the best. Please make a video about hiking boots you wear (hanwags, right) and waterproof jackets etc. Would be awesome
Sorry to hear about the camera. Fingers crossed it’s an easy fix. What sleeping mat do you use? Seems pretty decent for the size. Cheers for the video!!
It's not looking to sexy at the moment, I have a screen ordered for it. I use a Large thermarest neoair xtherm and I really like it. I use that on 99% of my camps, the only time I switch is to a thermarest prolite plus for extra room inside a hooped bivy.
Hi Jason. Nice looking tent, best of luck with it ☘️. Nothing as bad as sliding to one side of the tent. The sooner, the better they design a self levelling mat 😅. Best of luck 👍
Thank you Andrew, she's a beaut. 😁 The sooner the better is right, I might have to bring some industrial door sized stops to wedge under the mat next time. I hope your scarp is serving you well 🤞 take her handy 🍀
Great video! what tent would you recommend for ease of putting up, able to deal with the weather and wind, and ya know will do everything for under $200? I don’t ask much. Lol
😂 I'd suggest a Luxw outdoor Hexpeak v4a or a minipeak II. Maybe a wild country helm compact 1 or a vango banshee.. My top pick would be the hexpeak for internal space and for the weight of it. I think those would be in around the price you're looking at but you could always check the second hand market. I found a fjallraven abisko lite 1 which is a €600 tent, it was used 3 times and I got it for €200
Loved it mate! I know how you must be feeling re the camera but the fact that you just laugh about it says a lot about your wonderful attitude! Hope its an easy fix. To be honest it was good to see a bit of the other side to your camping, the mundane bits, your filming equipment etc. Also, Id love to see a bit more detail of the ration pack. Take care.
The camera is not looking too sexy at the moment, I'm hoping that a new screen sorts it so it's just a waiting game. Plan B is far more expensive than plan A 😆 What kind of detail do you mean? I was half thinking of ordering the same meals again and doing some kind of video series on them or even like you say show them in more detail. There's loads of other ration packs to try too, let me know your thoughts 🙌🍀
@@RamblingOn well I hope it's sorted Jason, surprised you don't use an action camera, much more robust but probably not as high a quality Re detail, I like the ones where you go through it bit by bit. I'd love to see a series on them.
@PhilWaud I use the osmo action 4 which is what I filmed the last of the video on. I'm just love the footage from the sony so I tend to use that as much as possible. I'll have a think about the packs, I can try and show them a little bit better. They've been pretty cool to be fair. I'd love to try the 24 hour packs
@@RamblingOn I use an osmo pocket 3 for my vids but it doesn't like rain or any rough stuff. My pixel phone is ace, and tying it to the mic 2 is perfect for me. My pack is heavy enough without a huge camera. Yes to the food pack breakdown, would watch that until the cows come home.
I have camped all over South Africa with my family growing up in South Africa…. African rains on my dad’s tent I will never forget … I now stay in Scotland 😂 the rain is freezing in these parts of the world brrrrr

Hi! I’m a new follower and loving it so far! Was wondering what quilt you use and if you have any recommendations? Always good to hear from fellow Europeans!
I have two quilts, the one in this video is a Hyberg loner 350 and its rated to a comfort of -1c. I'd say it's better suited to no lower than 1-2 celcius. The quality is okay, it has a zippered footbox and two pad straps, if memory serves me right theres an option for a third. I've had to repair one strap in the time that I have had it. It's a nice quilt but compared to my UGQ bandit is not in the same league. That quilt is very expensive beacuse of import and customs but it is beautiful. Mine is rated to -6c and it's fully customisable. I LOVE it but the price isn't too sexy. Maybe an enlightened equipment quilt might be a nice option?I dont have any experience with those unfortunately. Thank you for joining me on this one and for sticking with the channel. I hope I was able to help you in some way 🙌🍀
Amazing that the tent does not leak. It's a keeper. I am wondering if you need to wear ear plugs against the noise of the rain . Your hill is helping me tolerate a Chicago heat wave. I have visited Ireland about 10 times and my memories of Innis Oírr helped me relate to your trip. Cheers! 💦💦💦💦
I had some ear plugs but they don't always do a good enough job when the rain is really bad. Oh a heat wave sounds nice, maybe just for a day or two though 😄 Thank you very much for joining me 🍀
At least you're using a tent that's fit for purpose, unlike some clowns who post their exploits here. I know what you mean about level ground - if it looks more level than the ground around it, we tend to see it as more level than it is. Minor errors can be corrected by slightly deflating your mattress.
Ah yeah the tent did a great job, I'm just happy that I didn't damage it. I'll have to get a better pitch next time I take it out. Thank you for joining me 🙌
Hmm...?🤔... Marinara sauce - is a tomato sauce usually made with tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and onions. Variations may include capers, olives, spices, and a dash of wine...! Bolognese basically...😄✔️💯👊 Edit: 🙄 Oh that would require minced beef to be bollocknese.... But meatballs is cooll, just needs some cheese...👍 Also I want that ration pack, well tasty, where from...? I got uk ones, but ones U get have got alsorts of flavours... Just wot i needed on a Monday night, keep up the good stuff...😎
Whatever it was it was well good, very nice. I only have four rations packs left to go through. That one was in the box of menus 1-12 from the US Army. I ordered them from a dude on ebay . I'll have to try the ration packs from different countries just for the craic. Thanks a mill for joining me 🙌

From my nice, comfy and cozy armchair. With a mug of nice and hot, sweet and strong Yorkshire Tea in hand I have to say, that looked rather fun, but rather you than me Jason.
As you listed your snacks, I remembered the advice from a commenter on a previous video to avoid carbs and sugars and just eat protein only in a 6 hour window. And I see you decided to disregard that totally lol

I've a screen ordered for it so hopefully it might arrive this week 🤞I might have to move my plans forward to switching to full frame if the screen doesnt sort it but we'll see.
Thank you so much for joining me🙌🍀
@@RamblingOn
I'm still prepping...not quite ready to stay overnight in the dark let alone winter, but I do like getting as much hints and tips.
The do's and don'ts.
It may push myself to get brave for Spring adventures...I live in a very dense wooded area but not quite mastered the creatures that come out at night...like big moths and little black bat's 🦇
Oh heaven help me in they fly inside my tent...I'd be a running and screening. 😂
All the best !
I just subscribed to your channel. You are a very pleasant person to watch. I love your laugh and the very beautiful scenery.
Thank you Rita, the scenery is usually a lot better but with the weather we didn't get to see a whole lot. Maybe next time🤞thank you for joining me and subscribing 🍀
It always rains in Ireland, the weather people must get bored and just make weather up to give you hope 😂. Great video, subscribed!
Thank you for subscribing, the weather people likt to keep us on our toes 😄
Aloha John... Ireland is very beautiful and the scenery. It look's freezing up in the mountains and your tent is spacious. The rainy and windy weather would put me to sleep. I enjoyed your adventure and your laughter. Stay Safe And Healthy ALOHA From Hawaii ❤❤❤❤
Thanks a million Jodi, the weather was pretty bad omn this one but I'm looking forward to the frosty nights of winter. Thank you for joining me, cheers Jason 😉😄🍀
What backpack are you using to haul that up?
That is an Atom Packs MO50, I've used it for almost all of my camps for over a year now. It's held up extremely well
Hya mate , great videos , would you mind telling me what ground chair you have ? and is there plenty of height to sit up in the vern 1 ? and yeah laugh as much as you like 👍
Hey Darren, the chair is from crazy creek. Here is a little video I did for it ua-cam.com/video/XMmN5JOqx8Q/v-deo.htmlsi=D8AXPosL-Q5iZBOU
As for the Vern, I can't really say to be honest. That pitch was so bad that I've no doubt it impeded on the headroom inside. I could sit up, my head was slightly touching but maybe with a proper pitch it will be better. It was comfortable as it was but if I think of it I'll try comment on the headroom the next time I have it out. Thanks for joining me 🙌
Nice to See I'm Not The only One that find's pissed camping spot's..:) Nice Video Jason..👍
😄 you are not alone my friend, I'm just happen that I've got away with it this long
Another great video Jason 💪🏼. Hope you get your camera sorted

watching your second video and subscribed already. you are very authentic and i like that. great videos.
Ah that's deadly, thanks a million 🍀
Cheers Jason, I enjoyed watching you battle the elements. Soggy feet an all. Those Vern 1 tents seem really robust pal 👍
It held it's own even being pitched arseways, I'd love to try it pitched properly in some proper winter conditions. Thank you for joining me 🙌🍀
fantastic vid bro ,, i dont no how you do it , everytime im out and it rains , i struggle to stay awake, so relaxing , stay safe😃👍👍
I wish I had that same issue 😄
Cheers Jason another cracking video that tent looks great!! 👍
Cheers Pat, I'm just happy I didn't break it 😄
Nice looking tent. Those MRE packs look tasty. Going to have to try some. 🤔
Hey Jason.. that VEIW down yonder with the rainbow 🌈 looked absolutely beautiful .. " I CAN'T HEAR MYSELF THINK " haven't heard that expression in a long time..😅
That cherry blueberry cobbler is a pudding/ desert very yummy ..
I love your laugh!
Very nice video 👍😉
-Hedley
I look forward to your videos that was great thank you
Thank you Phil 🙌
Great video 👍four seasons in one day happy days as long as your enjoying it 👍

Ah you must get some of our rain... my apologies 😂 All the best with your new tent! I hope it serves you well and thanks a million for joining me 👍🍀
Camping food always tastes better
100% agree
@@RamblingOn my best camping meal was when I (accidentally) flambe cooked a Salman over a campfire, smoked to perfection.
hahaha love the camping spot!
i have definitely had my fair share of uneven spots, i even slept on a pile of rocks 2 years ago at the beginning of a month long camping trip i did in Haweewee
🤣 that's not the best way to start a long trip like that. The beautiful pristine flat spots are few and far between
@@RamblingOn it was a tough night sleep, especially when it started to rain and i found out that my new rainfly was definitely not waterproof like it had been advertised lol.
but i met a really nice homeless guy and did some fishing with him in the morning.
there's a short 2min video on my channel if you wanna see the spot. it's one of the 2 short vids right at the top of the landing page, in the playlist called "When the plan goes to 💩", so it's easy to find lol
Hey, how would you compare this tent to the Hilleberg Soulo you have?
Would be awesome
pretty please😀
Hahaha, fully with you on finding a level spot, looks perfect to me, and then it ends up being the tower of Pisa.
Happens 90% of the time, there are rare occasions where I get lucky and find a flat spot. I'm glad to hear that I am not alone in my struggles 😁
Hi Jason you're laugh is fantastic keep up the great work lookin forward to the next one brilliant ❤❤❤
Thank you Lillian 🍀
Very nice 🙂👍
Great video! what tent would you recommend for ease of putting up, able to deal with the weather and wind, and ya know will do everything for under $200? I don’t ask much. Lol
😂 I'd suggest a Luxw outdoor Hexpeak v4a or a minipeak II. Maybe a wild country helm compact 1 or a vango banshee.. My top pick would be the hexpeak for internal space and for the weight of it. I think those would be in around the price you're looking at but you could always check the second hand market. I found a fjallraven abisko lite 1 which is a €600 tent, it was used 3 times and I got it for €200
@ Thank you for those suggestions. I will go see what I can find. :)
@ do you think it is worth spending a bit more to get the durston x-mid?
@@RamblingOn well I hope it's sorted Jason, surprised you don't use an action camera, much more robust but probably not as high a quality
Re detail, I like the ones where you go through it bit by bit.
We have that lovely wet cold, really gets down to your bones 🤣
Oh Jason, you make me laugh. Good you are solo because if you are too positiv other ppl you are walking with can get crazy. I have that exspirience. Keep going! Hej så länge, hi so long😊😊😊
I love your greeting, I'm hoping to someday hike in Sweden. I like to do my own thing, I tend to go down paths that others wouldn't. I fine example of that is in next weeks video 😁
I hope I was able to help you in some way 🙌🍀
@@RamblingOn THANK you, greatly appreciate it!!
That rainbow shooting straight up into the sky like all the leprechauns are beaming up to the mother ship
Like a homing beacon, '' Come save us! This Irish weather's about to kick off'' 😆
Amazing that the tent does not leak.
Oh a heat wave sounds nice, maybe just for a day or two though 😄 Thank you very much for joining me 🍀
Downhill camping!
😆 perfect, even looking back at the footage... what was I thinking 😄
Thanks a mill for joining me 🙌
You certainly need great gear to camp in Ireland! I don't even camp but enjoy your chatty videos. Hope your camera will recover.
The camera is still feeling a little sorry for itself. I'm still hopeful for a full recovery because the other option gets very expensive 😄 Thank you for joining me 🍀
That's a 'sexy' looking tent Jason. Looks like it will hold up nicely. But 2 Kilo's to much for this old back of mine. Good luck with the camera.
😆 she's fair sexy alright, I think it's around 2.6 with the groundsheet but I could be lying. The camera's not looking too sexy at the moment but I'm still hopeful 🤞

Why have you got the vern when you have just got the soulo??
I was lucky enough that the Vern was sent to me by Nortent so I'm testing it out. The Soulo is one of my favourite tents so I'll have that out a lot over the winter months
Are you sure you erected the tent the right way? Looks wobbly. 😂😂
The tent was pitched terribly because of the uneven ground, I'm just happy it survived the night 😄
Great fun.. Loved this vid.. Which is your second camera cus that's not too bad either.
Hope the big camera comes back to life.. Probably the damp got in it.. Cheers anyway Jason. 👍
I've a screen ordered for it so hopefully it might arrive this week 🤞I might have to move my plans forward to switching to full frame if the screen doesnt sort it but we'll see.
The second camera is an Osmo action 4, it's a very capable little camera although low light is hard on those smaller sensors
@@RamblingOn. Cheers for the info Jason.. Hope u get it fixed.

@twiggyescapes Here is something to think about, sony a7c or the a7cii with a sony 20mm f1.8 and/or a sony 24-105 f4. I'm also looking at the Sony 14mm f1.8 GM.
