It,ll be good to see you out in the tent. Spot on review😊 It looks like this version of the Vern 1 is an up date with the rings at the bottom of the door and extra loops on the inner door. It's really good that Nortent listen to the users
Great overview Chris, For the price, this is a great tent and have enjoyed using it. I emailed Nortent after you mentioned about the poles and they have sent me a set of the 9.5mm for free, great customer service!!
Thanks for doing this very detailed overview of the Nortent Vern 1. Sorry I am late getting to this one. Lots of great features. Look forward to you getting out with this tent and putting it to the test.
Nice one Chris. Good look around that mate. It’s got some really good design features and I particularly like the double door feature offering great views in good conditions and the ability you change ends if the wind switches. I would prefer the shape at the ends where the poles cross and curve to the ground to be a bit more vertical and provide a more robust structure against the wind. But generally, it’s not a bad looking one man tent. Looking forward to your full review some time. Hope you’re able to get back out soon mate 👍
Very nice video, thorough and without the fuzz and fluff like some other youtubers. I expected nothing less, if I am honest, and glad to see that you haven’t lost your objectivity. I am sure it isn’t always easy, with all the free stuff that may come your way. But this was a text book example on how to to an unbiased product show case. 👍
@@ringperm cheers - it's great to be objective - especially on a platform where people may be inclined to go out and part with £600 odd quid based on a video - this tent is not comparable to the Soulo - it should never have been compared to it, especially out of the bag - but I'll touch on that in the final comparison video.
@@MCMOutdoors I look forward to the video, especially the comparison with the Soulo. I am sure you are correct, I don’t know what the Soulo does better, except maybe the poles? But it will be very interesting indeed to find out. I don’t know why, I only have the polycotton version of the Vern, and the Soulo is too short for me 🥲
My brother has a Hilleberg tent and I've been looking for something very similar but cheaper and have to say this looks perfect.... but I'm going to 150% research this tent before committing to buying one.....i want to know what it's like in stormy conditions because I'm a wild camper.... also i currently have a OEX bobcat 1 which is fantastic by the way and would like to eventually compare the two.... great video 😊
Hi Chris, I bought a Vern 2 in February and it came with the narrower poles. When the poles changed I contacted Nortent in June 24 and sent me more of the old poles for free. If I am out in bad weather I can double pole it. I'll probably double pole it all the time. Very in depth review. Atb Taff 🤠 👊 Maybe they had lots of stock hanging about
@MCMOutdoors Snow is apparently on its way this week. As the tent was launched in February 2024 not many people have tested it yet in arctic conditions.
I do like it, haven't tried in harsh weather yet but I'm confident it'll hold up if I did. Their customer service has been excellent throughout and I'm glad they've ironed out some of the issues they had. I look forward to further testing of this and I know you'll be open and honest in its performance!
It's not comparable to the Soulo, in any way - I'd hope anyone who's owned both shelters and had any credibility could appreciate that - however, it should never have been compared to it in the first place. I think it will be a great shelter for the right conditions.
I don't care what ppl say... That's an amazing tent, top notch 👌 My dream tent really. Just hope I can buy it some day ❤. Great tent overview, nicely done
Great detailed overview mate. Look forward to seeing the future wild camping video of you putting it to the test and your thoughts on the comparisons. 👍
Great overview Chris. Nice details shown on the tent. I had both, and still have the PC. I had no problem with the old poles in measured winds of 50mph. With the new poles it's insanely strong, However with a, footprint it is 4.3kgs. So a beast. Not for everyone but I love it with the near silence in the midst of raging wind and so much softer in the rain. I kept it in favour of the sil nylon as couldn't justify both. However again won't be for everyone as single skin so some condensation considerations at times. Much better than normal fabrics but still there. Looking forward to seeing you out in it. 👍🏻
A great detailed overview. Sometimes all you need is someone moving a camera carefully around a tent to show you it in detail and this ticks that box nicely. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after some use.
Nah then, ey up me duck. Tis aluz good to see you on the Tubes fella, hope you're well. Been looking at this tent myself and even though it's not quite what I'm currently wanting out of a tent I still think it's a very good tent. Ay a good'un me owd 🤜🤛
A nice objective review there mate. I love mine, never had any condensation issues and looking forward to testing it out over winter. The customer service is great. I recently got my free upgraded poles, so be great to see what difference they make. Keep up the good work.
A really detailed and balanced overview Chris. Looks like a high spec finish. Looking forward to seeing how it performs in the great outdoors. Thanks again for sharing 👌
@@MCMOutdoors ahh ok, not watched it yet, watching a film with the missus, will check it out later :) still very tempted to get one as a stop gap until I can afford my soulo BL, aiming to get myself one for my 40th (jan 2026)
Just watched in full, great video mate, lots of detail which is what I love to see when I’m considering new gear, will wait for your future vids of using and watch some other channels using it in bad weather it, but I’m pretty sold on it at the minute 🙏🏻⛺️
Don't know if you remember?, but I had this on order!! Then the flattening video came out , so I cancelled my order and valley an peak were excellent and refunded me.... I then baught that other tent instead, iam glad I did, but still miss not having the vern 1 in my collection .. one day I may still get one... Take care out there. Ps was that the Columbia jacket you were wearing???
Brilliant video this. I'm a user of the helm 2 by wild country and I love it but it's only 3 season I'm after a 4 season tent and looked at so many, the southern cross 2, the abisko lite 2, and the halland 2 by nordisk which I've previously asked you questions about (and you thankfully told me it isn't a winter tent) I STILL haven't made my mind up and taken the plunge on a tent. This could be the one. The fact it's not a 2 person tent puts me off as I like my space when the nights are long and you are tent bound. I'm looking forward to you getting out in this chris and as always giving honest and unbiased feedback. I can't wait to see how it compares to the "other" (and out of budget) manufacturer you refer to. Looks nice though 👌
I’ve the Vern 1 and 2. When the video came out with the original poles failing I bought a second set but have also bought Dac 10.2mm poles for the Vern 1. I do trust that one now out in the worst of weathers as the fabric is a little stronger than the red label tent which we know is a more than capable 4 season tent but with the 10.2 dacs I’ve every trust in it. Nortent also sent me out the new 9.5mm poles for both free of charge and have also given me a 20% discount code to use when I fancy another purchase from them to give me some back towards the purchase of the second set of poles I bought. I’m more than happy with what they’ve done for me and very happy with the tent now but out of the bag from the word go with the original 8mm or so poles it just wasn’t up to the job. I’d trust it with the thicker 9.5mm ones though with a few other little tweaks that you don’t need to do with the BL or the RL. I’ve a cloud peak 2 that I’ve also fitted 9.5mm poles too as well which has taken that tent up a notch but it’s no allak. Thinking of getting an allak 2 but don’t know if I can justify the cost although they hold their money really well so maybe it’s a no brainer to get one and also to get the upgraded poles too. Can then sell it in if I don’t feel it gets its use. In the Vern 1 I’ve added a longer guy out line to each end and use a shorter one that’s independent for the vents now but that means two extra pegs and carry some 600mm carbon fibre poles to lift the ends up like you do with the lanshans but haven’t used those at all but weigh nothing. The longer guy line at each end and the poles being thicker has sorted all the pancaking out. Great video and will be good to see subjective testing. 👍
I'm glad your having a look at it as it says you are not bias against it. I see Nortent has a new tent out and it's been given out again for YT personalities to review. Fingers crossed they have taken the feedback positively. Good to see you back 👍
@@MCMOutdoors Great first look at the Vern 1 Chris. Very detailed and well shot. I now have a better understanding of it's setup. Yeh that 0.5 mm does matter 😂
Great in depth video Chris. I own the RL Soulo but purchased the 10mm poles just incase the weather got real bad. Also have the Abisko Lite 2 which i also really like. But when you see these other tents like the Vern1 you think thats nice. Do i think its as well made or durable as the Soulo. No i dont but looks a lovely tent.
