- Chip Foose provides another detailed update on the Foose Design 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster build. With just about a month to go until its debut at the SEMA Show, the metalwork is now complete on this customized classic.
Updates include:

- Final BASF Paint Color selection
- Custom Dash and Interior details

I saw this car at SEMA. It is a totally custom interpretation of the Jaguar. Absolutely awesome. None of the photos that I have seen capture the true beauty of this car or that phenomenal paint job- its beautiful. What an awesome vision to bring about this transformation.
For my British cars friends that are appalled... get over it!! You say nothing when someone converts a 40 year old survivor into a race car. So step back and appreciate the fact that Foose transformed this survivor into a wonderful work of art that truly compliments the ideal and vision of Jaguar.
In my opinion, Chip Foose is a visionary. He and his crew are true artisans .
Having worked with metal for many years, to see that jag sat there in bare metal, just shows the high levels of metal working craftsmanship displayed by your staff!!!!!!
It is so refreshing to see such a genius... being so humble. I often think of the difference between being a manager and a leader, Chip is a leader.
You rarely ever see an engineer or architect put so much blood, sweat and tears into their design! I bet his crew is *fiercely* loyal to him! Big brain, big talent and *HUGE* heart!!!
A superb lesson on how to take something which is already perfect and totally bugger it up !!!

That's a beautiful synthesis of classic British design and classic American craftsmanship. Great to see these beautiful old shapes given a competent update by skilled craftspeople!
I love gelato ice cream as much as I love olive oil, but there's no such thing as mixing them together... XKE is not a 'vette as 'vette best color isn't British Racing green... You can't mix classics ! Imagine Beethoven mixed with Mozart ! Damn !!! Maybe a DJ will try that now ;-)

I agree, if you wanted something different than the v12, how about a early 4.2 with twin turbo's, for power. And then there is the issue of an automatic trans!
Rolling art. The best kind as the canvas is exciting all senses and instead of being enjoyed by a paying few in a fixed environment can be enjoyed by the masses in an ever changing backdrop. Yes. HELL YES!
I think Chip will have more than a few "casual observers" from Jaguar strolling by. It's always satisfying to see a job not just done right, but with just the right amount of attention to detail. Looking forward to the unveiling.
As far back as I can remember, ever since the first episode of overhauled, I wanted to see Chip get a hold of this model of car...and knew he could do something incredible and make it unbelievably awesome....glad to see it finally happened and I WAS RIGHT!
You go for it Chip!Your designs are over the top every time....I do tiny amounts of body work and understand how many man hours goes into a small project...Nothing but "fantastic" each time I see another Foose work of art..I only wish my dad took the time to teach like yours did for you...
If the New York Museum of Modern Art Had an exhibition of Mr. Foose's great work I would travel from here in the Arctic Watershed of Canada to see it and enjoy the recognition he so richly deserves !
Love the concept, being a jag fan disappointing foose didn’t use the v12. That’s what makes jaguar iconic.
I am sure if he doesn't already have it, Foose deserves the title of "Master Craftsman". The level of artistry in his cars is unbelievable
So I have decided that if there were to be a royal family of hot rod builders Chip would certainly be considered among them.

Mr. Ferrari thought this was the most beautiful car ever designed. Only Chip Foose can turn it into a piece of art worthy of the description, masterpiece. He is a genius at design. Thank GOD he does not have to finish this in 5 days.

Every time I hear you talk about your dad it makes me want to cry, I know how much he meant to you and how much he taught you. He must have been a great father? Besides his amazing talents in car building.
Growing up in the '70s this has to be my all-time favorite car. I remember having a 1/24th scale model of this car in British Racing Green. It was something to do with the large hood that really made me fall in love with this car. I would love to have Foose design and build me a car. His attention to detail is so amazing. I remember watching the series he had on tv where he would walk with the person after the car was complete and explain all the small details that you would miss if not told. Dreams...

I can not wait to see the finished product. it already looks absolutely amazing , but in my opinion, dam near anything Chip does is just stunning.
The unbelievable skill isn't the most impressive part of Chip Foose. It's that fact that with all of that talent he's still a nice guy and humble. Seldom do these things go together.
everyone has opinions , good bad or indifferent , it matters not , but what impresses me is this mans mega talent , to take an already pretty automobile and giving it this kind of facelift how can you not like it , i love it !

l realise the Coddington/Foose history, but Chip is the Leonardo of the custom car universe. He's the only designer l know who can take an elegant, vintage car and transform it into a new-age, contemporary concept completely at home in the 21st century. The sublime and subtle changes defy description. Craftsmanship and manufacturing integrity are the core principles of wonderful design...stunning, simply stunning....some of his changes are almost invisible, but you know they're there. No grumpiness either...

Foose is not only a true artist he is a hell of a guy. The world needs more humble talented people and less self promoting hacks.
Jaguars are always good looking, the lowly x-type wraps nicely in a grey with a little green. Hinted-color tone lets the lines play in reflection and form.
Design and craftmanship as we can expect !....props to the whole team!....thank you for the vid mr foose!

Wouldn’t you love to have a DVD showing the creation of this car? Most of us will never be able to afford it, but it would be great to at least see it being formed and constructed. Beautiful car.

I love everything about it except the hood scoop , but thats just personal . Its going to be something special when its done. Amazing work yet again .

And yes the Jag v12 is a piece of poo, but the 6 cylinder is an awesome engine, and real Jags have 6 cylinder engines

Ernie D one of the greatest and world renowned designed it in the first place. He took a classic and turned it into something else thats going to be dated in 10yrs. The original design was timeless. Im a fan of Chips but really an E type? That is painful to watch.
So glad Mike Curtis was involved with the wheels. It was frustrating watching his talented wasted when he worked for Boyd years ago.

true chip true true... a jag motor is a beautiful thing but this car looks amazing and you are a very talented man. I wish my father would of had the money to take his xk-150 to you back in the day, you are a true car man and do amazing things with older vehicles I have an enourmous amount of respect for you

I always liked FOOSE's design and quality of craftsmanship, this is the first time I do disagree with him.
The Jag V12 motor can be modernized using new induction, cooling and electrical systems, I realize the GM
LS engines are incredibly reliable, easy to adapt in different applications and on top of everything, they are not that expensive and you can produce a lot of power from them... definitely one of the best engine architectures ever!
But a Jag with a Chevy engine, I just don't swallow that easy!
Maybe I am too purist!
Recycle the jag engine put it in a hot rod

What would a rebuilt, properly upgraded Jaguar V12 cost compared to an out-of-the-box Chevy? Getting the right guy to tune and maintain the Jag engine could be challenging too...
there are many excellent Jag engines that would have gone well in this car. from classic to modern. more horsepower isn't a real excuse, easier and cheaper is the only reason I can see for a LS
An AJ-v8 from 1999-2008 with the super charger would have made enough power to move that car along, and a donor XJR is not too expensive. That being said it would have been a tight fit in that chassis and sorting the engine/trans computers would be a pain.

Beautiful already now! One of the best if not the best interpretation, modern but still elegant as original. Design is best when is in service of purpose. The two English design examples are Jaguar E-Type and Spitfire. I Can`t wait to see it when it`s finished, it promises a lot.

Nice one Chip, I remember being told that although it looks a sleek aerodynamic shape, a lot of excessive drag came from inside the wheel arches.
Don't worry about the tossers who can't understand that weight in a restoration is everything. Swapping a slug for a tornado is what it's all about & the 4L60E is the best 4 speed auto GM ever used!

What else can I say but wow!!! it's a Chip Foose Design . as usual chip you are knocking it out of the park attention to detail is your specialty and there sure is a lot of them LOL always loving your work and always watch
I had a 63xke convertible back in 75 metallic brown and a black vynial hard top, got so fed up with the drivetrain took it out and installed a 66-427,8v Ford side oiler 625 H.P with a C6 automatic trans and a nice 3300 10" converter. The rear wheel openings were Radiused just like your 73. Sorry I ever sold it , well I think it ended up on the end of someone's cutting torch for insurance money , I've been told.

I like the way that the unpainted silvery metal looks. If it could be tweeked by making the finish of it more even, that would be an awesome look for a car like this. I wonder why that's not ever done with cars. At least I've never seen it done that way on a car.
As a kid the first car to get my eyes was the “Gullwing” 300SL then one day I saw an E type and have loved them ever since!
Never saw a 300SL in person but have seen and riden in an E type. A neighbor had one with a bad motor and horrid wiring. He gutted it rewired and put a built 302 Ford in it.
Have had a stiffy for E types ever since!
Harry Ballzack if your ever in Malaga Spain there is a 300SL in a collection displayed next to an Aston Martin DB4 - both cars i dreamt about as a youngster (and still do dream about!)

The build looks great, but why not use the new 5.0 V8 575HP engine from the Jaguar F-Type?
probably not available as a crate motor with ECU support.
What FIrst Last said, and the Jag engine is most likely significantly larger and heavier. LS engines are light and compact.
Love you Foose. Your builds are mostly to notch. Being an Art Center x-pat I appreciate your serious work. However, in this case I think a modern Jaguar engine such as their supercharged v6 or regular v-8 would have been more befitting if you wanted crazy horsepower. I personally would have used the Eagle brand bored out JAGUAR inline 6. After all, we are not kids anymore, adequate speed along with true original character of an inline 6 would be heavenly. With the LS you are mixing soul of a corvette with a beautiful Jaguar. When you press on the accelerator pedal it will feel like a corvette nor a Jaguar which builds torque as you rev that sweet inline 6. This reminds me of that awful build by ICON, you know, the one where he used an LS engine in a vintage Bentley. You can see it on Jay Leno's garage. A total misguided effort. Best of luck.
