    This is (from 6:00) IMHO, by far the greatest scene ever made by Top Gear. From the timing, the sudden arrival into the midst of a field of E-types, the music and pacing, the subtle (or not so subtle) digs at the other countries, the hearkening back to the greatness of the Empire, the sneering disdain towards the minibus's and anything less than the best 'for Queen/King and country', the truly iconic Spitfire and Hurricane and all they stood for....I could go on and on - this scene had it all, and rounded off by the epic self-mocking failure to start......truly great. A belated congratulations Top Gear, from a non-Brit :)

    Anyone else blub like a baby as the Spitfire and Hurricane fly by the white cliffs? Just me?
    The creamy smooth roar of the Rolls-Royce Merlin is, to me, the sound of freedom - the antithesis and antidote to the Nazi jackboot. I may be over sixty years too young to have fought in the Second World War, but I am mindful nevertheless of the sacrifice lads my age made, flying these beautiful aeroplanes in hideous circumstances, to defend this little island in the face of insanely overwhelming odds against them... courageous doesn't even begin to describe it. Every time I hear a Merlin, wherever I am, I stop, think, and have a very hard time keeping my eyes dry.

      Oh, and as for the Eagle: it is very, achingly beautiful, it is true. It goes like stink and will be a hang sight more involving to drive than any modern supercar... yet it is the original after which I lust the most. Still the most beautiful thing ever put on four wheels.
      77RW, one day, you will be mine, I promise. I will master you and love you above all other E-types.

      "The creamy smooth roar of the Rolls-Royce Merlin is, to me, the sound of freedom..." Yes, it was so good that thanks to the U.S.'s license built Merlins our P-51 Mustangs took that iconic sound all the way to Berlin--and back. The triumph of American ingenuity and British engineering.

      wristofkings Packard didn't change a thing about the Merlin, the Mustang just had greater range with drop-tanks than the Spitfire. The one thing Packard did change was the toolkit which came with the engine - I understand that the Packard toolkit is highly sought-after today and can command high prices at auctions.

    As a schoolboy I fell in love with the E-type and had pictures of it plastered over the front of my school books. My brother-in-law wrapped his Healey 3000 around a telegraph pole and was looking for a new car; he looked at Alfas, Jensens etc, even a Sunbeam Tiger, while I was begging him to get an E-type One night he came to our house and told me had something to show me; and there it was 700 FVN, a gunmetal grey 3.8 coupe, sitting in the light falling snow with its three wipers going. We drove to a coffee shop and sat drinking coffee just admiring the car through the window. He owned another five E-types after that one, a 4.2, two Series 2s, and two series 3s and by that time i was lucky enough to drive the last one, another gunmetal grey coupe,V12 this time.

      @MonsieurHiroshima I think a better way to word it, is that I'm grateful as the of the while nation is too, that we weren't defeated. I don't ever appreciate his wrong doings as of racism. He wasn't a good person by no means.

    • @retroybd2780
      @retroybd2780 4 роки тому

      @MonsieurHiroshima Wait, what? I have no self-hatred nor docI think whites are the only racists. To be honest, I don't really think about racism nor have anything to do with it. No, racism cannot be completely eradicated since lookism and racism will always be something that humans are natural to. Yes, I believe we should be equal, but we aren't, because others simply believe that one race is more superior than others, probably because they came from a statistically poorer country or demographic. No, I am not clued up on history of war, politicians or government bodies. Churchill was a racist and believed that we should take over those who were seemingly poorer and less dominant than the white race. That was how it was back then. That was how we functioned. Now, Churchill was a bad person, but the only thing I can say positive ever about him, was that he was our prime minister that had led thos country to victory, as well as the allies did of whom helped us big time. Most the credit goes to allies. Now, racism will continue and we cannot eradicate it, but don't hate on a race, hate the individual who is a negative influence on others. I don't hate a race. I'm not a racist. I like individuals who are seemingly decent who aren't assholes to me. That's mostly what I care about. Sure, most terrorists come from a middle eastern decent and there are people out there who are absolutely deluded to believe that all Muslims are bad. They're not. That's like saying all the Irish are bad because there was a terrorist organisation called the IRA that caused widespread arson and threats in the UK. So, in fact, I'll say what I want. I'm not being critical in anyway shape or form. I believe you are blowing this out of proportion by saying that I am "stupid" and shit. Why? What have I said that's so bad, because there is not one hint of negativity that I have said that was cause an upset.

Also, the GTR lacks the elegance, class, beauty and soul of the E-Type. No matter how you look at it, a GTR is not a modern day E-Type. Unless you're only talking about figures in which case you're just being silly.
