    One thing I would add to this is something that confused me when I started actually talking to people who speak Spanish -- they add a reflexive form for no particular reason. I finally realized that it's the same thing we do in English -- sometimes we say, "Get yourself over here" when we could just say :"Get over here." Or we say "Did you get yourself a job?" when we could just say "Did you get a job?" In the same way, native Spanish speakers will say, "Tómate tu leche" where they could just say "Toma tu leche" -- I guess that's "te" and not "se", but if it were formal it could be used the same way.

    • @bilbohob7179
      @bilbohob7179 5 років тому +13

      "me" is first person.
      "te" is second person.
      "se" is third person or formal person.
      PLURAL:
      "nos"
      "os"
      "se"
      Yes, spanish changes for every person.
      But in English too:
      myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves

      @@santuki_bro Funny, I wrote that comment a long time ago, and I've been surprised that it's gotten several comments, and I was just thinking about it the other day, so it's cool that you've just commented! Another thing I just started being aware of is how some Spanish speakers will say "--ico" instead of "-- ito" to do the diminutive. And it seems to be just for fun, to change it up, as far as I can tell. I first became aware of it in that song Bicleta by Carlos Vives and Shakira ( "una cartica que te escribí...") and now I'm hearing it all the time.

    Thank you. I appreciate your videos. My trick with understanding “Se hable español” - In these instances, with “se” that is often used on business or public signs, I translate literally in English as “One speaks Spanish.” In this case “Se” is a formal “One,” as in reference to a person in general. In other words, it conveys that there is someone(s) that speaks Spanish on the premises. Another example, “No Se Nadar Aqui” - often seen at a lake - “One cannot swim here.”

    Teaching vocabulary of reflexive verbs with alternative meanings - such as, ir, to go, irse, to leave, would be very helpful. I find the reflexive verbs - an alternative verb vocabulary - a major challenge. I have understood that it’s best to consider them a different vocabulary altogether, but they are not addressed as such in formal courses I have had - just sprinkled in among lessons here and there. Truly a major task as there are so many.

    Im sure you answered it here but not sure where.
    Additionally: i was doing church ministry. Regularly we offered “Dios le bendiga.” Why ‘le’ and not ‘te’?

    • @agame-jv6zv

    • @Tarb0
      @Tarb0 5 років тому +6

      "¿Cuándo va (usted)?" (when do you go?) is not the same as "¿Cuándo se va?" (when do you leave?). The question is using the verb irse, not just ir. Ir and irse are not the same verbs, if you want to learn more just google pronominal verbs. The tú form of this question would be "¿Cuándo te vas?". I hope that helps.

    •  6 років тому +9

      I know it's one of those annoying ones. Es por eso que decidí hacer este video jaja. Pero sí, irse es reflexivo. En este caso significa to go to sleep. Dormirse is the actual verb there, but typically "irse" significa "to leave" y voy a hacer un videocito sobre al que, el que, la que etc.
