One thing I would add to this is something that confused me when I started actually talking to people who speak Spanish -- they add a reflexive form for no particular reason. I finally realized that it's the same thing we do in English -- sometimes we say, "Get yourself over here" when we could just say :"Get over here." Or we say "Did you get yourself a job?" when we could just say "Did you get a job?" In the same way, native Spanish speakers will say, "Tómate tu leche" where they could just say "Toma tu leche" -- I guess that's "te" and not "se", but if it were formal it could be used the same way.
"me" is first person. "te" is second person. "se" is third person or formal person. PLURAL: "nos" "os" "se" Yes, spanish changes for every person. But in English too: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves
@@santuki_bro Funny, I wrote that comment a long time ago, and I've been surprised that it's gotten several comments, and I was just thinking about it the other day, so it's cool that you've just commented! Another thing I just started being aware of is how some Spanish speakers will say "--ico" instead of "-- ito" to do the diminutive. And it seems to be just for fun, to change it up, as far as I can tell. I first became aware of it in that song Bicleta by Carlos Vives and Shakira ( "una cartica que te escribí...") and now I'm hearing it all the time.
Thank you. I appreciate your videos. My trick with understanding “Se hable español” - In these instances, with “se” that is often used on business or public signs, I translate literally in English as “One speaks Spanish.” In this case “Se” is a formal “One,” as in reference to a person in general. In other words, it conveys that there is someone(s) that speaks Spanish on the premises. Another example, “No Se Nadar Aqui” - often seen at a lake - “One cannot swim here.”
Bro these videos are a Godsend. Translator ALWAYS gets these wrong so its impossible to figure out on your own without knowing the usages as you explained. 💪🏻💪🏻
Nothing to be scared of from masonry! Good group of guys that want to make the world a better place! I would know I am one! Love the videos btw! I’m learning a lot just by listening. Thank you for what you do!
And the one you did with the skits of how different people act towards you when they learn that you speak Spanish, that was amazing and so true. I must have seen each one of those people you described about a hundred times
Constantly listening to your accent is helping me change the way I sound, I have been learning by ear, its time to sign up for class now...I have located the books you suggested...I should have them next week
Teaching vocabulary of reflexive verbs with alternative meanings - such as, ir, to go, irse, to leave, would be very helpful. I find the reflexive verbs - an alternative verb vocabulary - a major challenge. I have understood that it’s best to consider them a different vocabulary altogether, but they are not addressed as such in formal courses I have had - just sprinkled in among lessons here and there. Truly a major task as there are so many.

Can you make a video or just explain how you started incorporating the accidental se, indirect/direct object se, or just grammar rules in general in your daily speech when you were still learning spanish? Love your videos and keep doing you!! ;)

Sure. Good idea! thanks for your support! I'm going to break them down separately.
I was looking for that last one. I was speaking to a native Spanish Speaker and that person said "Se me olvido" I was what, why did you use "Se" here. Thanks this clarified.
I love these types of vids because it showcases more than just u talking about the topics it shows the are/backgroud and people like myself that live in the boring country on the uk can see that there's hope o one day leaving this country

Yes, I always dreamed of living in Miami after visiting here for a little bit 5 years ago. Where I was just living was the most boring space. There is hope!
I was in Mexico last year. I made friends with someone. He asked me. “Cuando se va?” I understood what he was asking but i dont understand why he used “se” Im sure you answered it here but not sure where. Additionally: i was doing church ministry. Regularly we offered “Dios le bendiga.” Why ‘le’ and not ‘te’?
"¿Cuándo va (usted)?" (when do you go?) is not the same as "¿Cuándo se va?" (when do you leave?). The question is using the verb irse, not just ir. Ir and irse are not the same verbs, if you want to learn more just google pronominal verbs. The tú form of this question would be "¿Cuándo te vas?". I hope that helps.

Maybe you misheard him? Or he just said it wrong. Cómo te va or como le va work but not cómo se va.
Awwww “se”...the most fun yet the most annoying at times lol...I saw a sentence today and it said “ Mi hijo nunca quiere irse a dormir”.....let’s just say I just skipped that whole entire sentence lol...it’s a love and hate thing...lol...just like “al que”....It drives me nuts lol
I know it's one of those annoying ones. Es por eso que decidí hacer este video jaja. Pero sí, irse es reflexivo. En este caso significa to go to sleep. Dormirse is the actual verb there, but typically "irse" significa "to leave" y voy a hacer un videocito sobre al que, el que, la que etc.
Well how much are your lessons?? I have been practicing Spanish for years and your videos have helped me with the semantics of spanish grammar that I'm not able to understand. Thank you, thank you for this video in particular.

Por favor, hace un video sobre "the subjunctive" tu explicas cosas tan bien. Finalmente, voy a comprender el subjunctivo. Y has hablado sobre "haber?" Yo pienso que lo harias facil para comprender (to understand). Lol, got a little confused there. This probably barely made sense, but thank you again for another excellent lesson. I watch your channel like netflix! Jajaja!
I understand the money thing and that is good. But im a single mom i and I follow you along with reading spanish books and teaching myselfon my own but I learn better by following your videos. If people want to pay for one on one that's great but please dont stop uploading videos for people like me.

Rickie Walls oh because you said you were going to stop posting certain lessons online because you have people who pay for them and I was saying if a person doesn't live in a state where they can pay you or they don't have access to pay you then how do you gain access to do that but we've already established that

My wife is the only one who seems to be able to understand my speaking spanish but thinking english. My short term goal is to be able to speak directly to my 5 year old...
Do you raise your kids bilingually? If so, can you make a video about that?

I don't live with my kids anymore. I used to only speak to them in Spanish for the first two years. There is a video of me talking to my oldest daughter on IG when she was about 1 & a half, but now it's all English. If they want to learn when they get older, then I will teach them.

Yes, spanish changes for every person.
But in English too:
myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves
