    I’m just glad to see someone else like me in South Florida that is as interested in the spanish culture as me !!!! Very proud !!

    •  6 років тому +57

      I wish there was a community of Americans who spoke Spanish where we could all meet up and do something. That would be fun and interesting.

    • @LS-pv5bg
      @LS-pv5bg 6 років тому +25

      Rickie Walls that’s what I’m saying!!! There’s not much African American people who are as interested in spanish as us sadly...like, my interest in Spanish is borderline addiction lol ....and it’s very hard finding Spanish meetup groups just to practice Spanish, there are some but it’s crazy hard to find...if there were a community of us, can you imagine how cool that would be and how we could help each other through the difficult processes of learning without having to pay over $1000 to go to a school and you end up learning spain Spanish by the time your done 😒 lol...no shade to Spain lol

    •  6 років тому +31

      I agree 100% My ex used to tell me I was obssessed, but I'm not. I just am like that in every area of life. If I like something I go hard for it. That's why i'm an entrepreneur. I'm glad to be in a position to help others who have the same goals.
      And I feel the same about Spain Spanish. nothing wrong with it, BUT it should not be taught in the US. We don't learn England English here so... lol

    • @LS-pv5bg
      @LS-pv5bg 6 років тому +12

      Rickie Walls what I tell people that say I might be obsessed with spanish is that if I’m obsessed with something that I love, I’m 100% ok with that...and I always give them an example that if designers weren’t obsessed with fashion, something that they love, then most of the clothes would look like trash...everybody has their own obsession and this is mines, languages

      I think I have an idea for you. I'm a black guy from the US in Argentina... My Spanish is good but of course there's a lot I still don't know how to say. Getting a haircut is difficult... especially explaining what I want (there aren't many black people in BA). Could you make a video using terms and stuff that we would use in our barbershops to explain what we would want. It's hard to find them on the internet too. Just trying to avoid a patch my guy jaja

    I just subbed today! I am Puerto Rican and Dominican and actually ashamed Im can’t speak fluently. I’ve been trying but very little Puerto Rican’s or Dominicans around me so it’s hard to try to imitate and learn the type of Spanish that I want to. But I’m glad I found this channel because it seems really helpful so far. Thanks 😊

    •  6 років тому +34

      don't be ashamed. if there is one thing that I want people to know, it's that you don't have to live in the confines of your ethnicity, nationality, color etc. If that was the case, then I would not be doing what I was doing. Be comfortable with your skills, and if you want to better them, then do so, but without the shame. : )
      I had no Puerto Ricans or Dominicans by me, but I did have UA-cam, and google, so just know that all that you're trying to do is possible despite the circumstances. Is there a topic that you would like me talk about on my channel?
      I'm here to help if you have questions.

    • @YalianaEnid
      @YalianaEnid 6 років тому +14

      Rickie Walls thank you! My main problem is forming sentences I guess I use the wrong tenses and what not. I can understand, and read Spanish pretty well and I know a lot of words in Spanish; objects, things, places etc but when I try to put it all together I get lost lol so maybe something along those lines? Idk. I really enjoyed those “how to speak like a Dominican/Puerto Rican” videos though! Super helpful

    •  6 років тому +11

      I'm coming out with a sentence structure series pretty soon, so that may help. as far as the tenses go, I don't know if I'm going to put those on my channel, since that will be in my course that people are paying for, so I don't think it would be fair to them, but I'll figure it all out.

    This was probably my biggest fear but what helped me to speak Spanish the most!...I live in Florida and there is always an opportunity to speak to someone but it’s funny when you start to speak and they give you that “ you speak Spanish” look lol ....priceless everytime lol

    •  6 років тому +12

      What part of Florida are you in? I never get that look, but I do have people try to speak to me in English before I open my mouth and I quickly shut that down lol. I also have people that come up to me and start to speak Spanish to me, which I found a bit curious, because I wonder what makes them do that. (I think it;s how i dress) lol but Keep doing your thing! : )

      O yes you're in a great spot to speak it a lot. and you have your husband's family so you're all set.
      Continue to grow. Hey do you know of any good Bachata and Salsa dance spots around here during the week. I'm dying to go dancing!!!

    • @LS-pv5bg
      @LS-pv5bg 6 років тому +3

      Rickie Walls I do have my husbands family but speaking to people who already know spanish and speaking to people who worked hard to learn Spanish is a whole different thing...it’s a whole different level of respect because it’s known what it took to get to an advanced level....lol....most of the clubs in Miami always play a mixture of songs and most of them always have a spanish room in them....I think club Mansion has one on south beach, I could check for you if you want

    •  6 років тому +4

      Hmm I'm gonna have to leave Miami to go dancing. I don't want a mixture of Reggaeton and trap with my Bachata, because then it attracts a crowd that I don't want lol. I'm looking for people who are really about that Bachata and Salsa life, as opposed to tourists lol
      Pero entiendo lo que dices, y estoy dispuesto a charlar contigo si quieres. Ya hablo con mucha gente para que puedan mejorar su español, porque yo sé como es no tener a nadie con quien practicar tu español. I'll check out the mansion though. I know of Candela Gastrobar on Mondays, but I wanna go somewhere else during the week.

    I swear it's hard to get over my fear, but you make it look so easy. I talk to this lady at my job everyday when I see her in Spanish. She's from Mexico. I'm going to start taking more opportunities to speak in Spanish.

    •  6 років тому +6

      You have your friends, and you have your coworkers, so your situation makes it easier because you have a relationship with those people. In this video, I talked to random people, asking the an uncommon question with a camera so they felt awkward and I felt a little awkward. If I could do that then, I know you can do it in your everyday life about more relateable things amiga! Believe in your skills. Idk why I wrote you in English. you know Spanish lol.

      Confidence and courage is your answer. The only route to confidence is practice, even if you feel nervous 200 times in a row. Truth is, that nervousness or hesitation never goes away 100%, it just gets reduced to "no big deal" after a while. You'll be pleasantly surprised as you continue, just how much your initiative and interest will be appreciated.
      People will light up, and take an interest in you. You'll likely find yourself having to limit or postpone a conversation at times, so you're not late for an appointment. You'll see, it'll be cool. As for those that may criticize or laugh ... again, no big deal. Very few native speakers will actually do that. If/when they do, most often they will let you know that they didn't intend any insult. Sometimes we may just sound funny because of our accent, or mispronunciation of a word, or even use a word that's considered inappropriate or vulgar in their country of birth.
      All the best to you in 2020 y Dios te bendiga. =)

    Pro tip: If you have changed all your devices to Spanish and services (including Gmail, Chrome, UA-cam etc) and it is still suggesting you exclusively English content, use a VPN to change your IP to that of a Spanish speaking country. I found that was the only way that Google would get the message.

    I'm actually Dominican and Venezuelan and I want to learn Dominican spanish not the neutral spanish you learn in school my parents tried to teach us growing up but of course you don't know what as a child what you know as an adult and so now I'm getting better just from being around my family and listening but again they speak so fast and I'm learning but your videos actually are more clear because they speak so choppy in my family, so just more everyday conversations with how to reply

Been speaking french because of my time in Canada, but not much opportunity to practice here in the states. I will start learning Spanish because it is such a wonderful language and so many great Spanish people and speakers here to speak with and learn from. The cultures of different Spanish dialects are Rich and interesting, who wouldn't want to learn different languages to learn of the cultures??!?! Excellent channel.

      Keep your french. You don't need people to practice with if you practice with yourself. French is similar to Spanish so it shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm all about breaking the language barrier and getting along with others. Good luck to you amigo!
