Dude you could totally pass as a native spanish speaker. By your looks and fluency.
lol, siempre me confunden
Not only that but there’s some pretty dark south Americans that speak Spanish
@@user-zi3fg9sx4z No tienes idea .
I’m just glad to see someone else like me in South Florida that is as interested in the spanish culture as me !!!! Very proud !!
I wish there was a community of Americans who spoke Spanish where we could all meet up and do something. That would be fun and interesting.
Rickie Walls that’s what I’m saying!!! There’s not much African American people who are as interested in spanish as us sadly...like, my interest in Spanish is borderline addiction lol ....and it’s very hard finding Spanish meetup groups just to practice Spanish, there are some but it’s crazy hard to find...if there were a community of us, can you imagine how cool that would be and how we could help each other through the difficult processes of learning without having to pay over $1000 to go to a school and you end up learning spain Spanish by the time your done 😒 lol...no shade to Spain lol
I agree 100% My ex used to tell me I was obssessed, but I'm not. I just am like that in every area of life. If I like something I go hard for it. That's why i'm an entrepreneur. I'm glad to be in a position to help others who have the same goals.
And I feel the same about Spain Spanish. nothing wrong with it, BUT it should not be taught in the US. We don't learn England English here so... lol
Rickie Walls what I tell people that say I might be obsessed with spanish is that if I’m obsessed with something that I love, I’m 100% ok with that...and I always give them an example that if designers weren’t obsessed with fashion, something that they love, then most of the clothes would look like trash...everybody has their own obsession and this is mines, languages
Sooo true! Dices la verdad, hermana! jaja
A second language needs to be treated like its your main language. Some ppl learn in college but when some got it down but sound robotic but don't speak charismatic.
Exactly. Tienes razón mano.
100% agreed. The only way to attain fluency is to speak/use the desired language as much as or even more so (for a reasonable time) than your native language. It literally changes the way you think, and feel. =)
You have to make an emotional connection
To do that you have to throw yourself in the pool, seek out situations where you can use it, and as much as possible, pay attention to how people really their language. It’s never like it is in the school books. :-)
Latino is a culture not a race. By learning our language this man is now a latino and part of our culture! My favorite UA-camr. Thank you 'mano!
This was probably my biggest fear but what helped me to speak Spanish the most!...I live in Florida and there is always an opportunity to speak to someone but it’s funny when you start to speak and they give you that “ you speak Spanish” look lol ....priceless everytime lol
What part of Florida are you in? I never get that look, but I do have people try to speak to me in English before I open my mouth and I quickly shut that down lol. I also have people that come up to me and start to speak Spanish to me, which I found a bit curious, because I wonder what makes them do that. (I think it;s how i dress) lol but Keep doing your thing! : )
Rickie Walls ...by Fort Lauderdale!!!...yeah I have had people switch to English real quick as welll 😂😂😂...usually if I made a mistake but I have to learn to keep talking even if they switch to English..
O yes you're in a great spot to speak it a lot. and you have your husband's family so you're all set.
Continue to grow. Hey do you know of any good Bachata and Salsa dance spots around here during the week. I'm dying to go dancing!!!
Rickie Walls I do have my husbands family but speaking to people who already know spanish and speaking to people who worked hard to learn Spanish is a whole different thing...it’s a whole different level of respect because it’s known what it took to get to an advanced level....lol....most of the clubs in Miami always play a mixture of songs and most of them always have a spanish room in them....I think club Mansion has one on south beach, I could check for you if you want
Hmm I'm gonna have to leave Miami to go dancing. I don't want a mixture of Reggaeton and trap with my Bachata, because then it attracts a crowd that I don't want lol. I'm looking for people who are really about that Bachata and Salsa life, as opposed to tourists lol
I'll check out the mansion though. I know of Candela Gastrobar on Mondays, but I wanna go somewhere else during the week.
I've been speaking Spanish for six years. I told a Dominican "Que Lo Que" last week and he told me I sounded weird because it's a Panamanin expression.
R.I.P ME
was he old? It is a Dominican expression for sure. "que xopa" is panamanian jaja. what the heck
He was probably messing with you.
DesigningaNewMe True is a Dominican expression.. Dominicans in PR say that
I've heard Panamanians say "Que lo que es" but its not like what's up its more like "what the hell man"..lol. Plus theres tons of folks that don't stick with just their culture of origin expressions and adopt phrases from other people, dependant on their friends, family size and favorites. Good work man!
Yes it's is a Panama saying, what's up in translation.
OMG OMG....why was I terrified watching you approach people 🙈
HAHAHA It's not a scary movie. lol Just regular convo. Break out of that shell! XD
Rickie Walls I’m such an introvert, lol that would terrify me hun 😂
because you visualized yourself in that position so you got scared lol
Zion Kohenet i used to be just like you. Then that #YOLO phrase went viral and I took it to heart lbvs
KamiKaZe Mazinger Z hahaha absolutely!! I could try to start a conversation, but once they start goin off...I’m out the game 🙈😂
I just subbed today! I am Puerto Rican and Dominican and actually ashamed Im can’t speak fluently. I’ve been trying but very little Puerto Rican’s or Dominicans around me so it’s hard to try to imitate and learn the type of Spanish that I want to. But I’m glad I found this channel because it seems really helpful so far. Thanks 😊
don't be ashamed. if there is one thing that I want people to know, it's that you don't have to live in the confines of your ethnicity, nationality, color etc. If that was the case, then I would not be doing what I was doing. Be comfortable with your skills, and if you want to better them, then do so, but without the shame. : )
I had no Puerto Ricans or Dominicans by me, but I did have UA-cam, and google, so just know that all that you're trying to do is possible despite the circumstances. Is there a topic that you would like me talk about on my channel?
I'm here to help if you have questions.
Rickie Walls thank you! My main problem is forming sentences I guess I use the wrong tenses and what not. I can understand, and read Spanish pretty well and I know a lot of words in Spanish; objects, things, places etc but when I try to put it all together I get lost lol so maybe something along those lines? Idk. I really enjoyed those “how to speak like a Dominican/Puerto Rican” videos though! Super helpful
I'm coming out with a sentence structure series pretty soon, so that may help. as far as the tenses go, I don't know if I'm going to put those on my channel, since that will be in my course that people are paying for, so I don't think it would be fair to them, but I'll figure it all out.
Rickie Walls
Yea, a video on sentence structure would be great. I know a lot but I feel like my tenses, direct objects, etc are all over the place when I talk!
We'll get it all worked out. : )
I swear it's hard to get over my fear, but you make it look so easy. I talk to this lady at my job everyday when I see her in Spanish. She's from Mexico. I'm going to start taking more opportunities to speak in Spanish.
You have your friends, and you have your coworkers, so your situation makes it easier because you have a relationship with those people. In this video, I talked to random people, asking the an uncommon question with a camera so they felt awkward and I felt a little awkward. If I could do that then, I know you can do it in your everyday life about more relateable things amiga! Believe in your skills. Idk why I wrote you in English. you know Spanish lol.

Where are the Dominicans in miami
Where ever there is Dominican food. There are a few Dominican restaurants where they hang. El Club Típico Dominicano is my favorite.
I think I have an idea for you. I'm a black guy from the US in Argentina... My Spanish is good but of course there's a lot I still don't know how to say. Getting a haircut is difficult... especially explaining what I want (there aren't many black people in BA). Could you make a video using terms and stuff that we would use in our barbershops to explain what we would want. It's hard to find them on the internet too. Just trying to avoid a patch my guy jaja
whats up I find your videos interesting I'm from Hollywood florida if you ever want come to D.R let me know? .I'm not talking tourist spots I mean like actual in the city. have more to say hmu ...
Rickie Walls this was great
Man those glasses are fire 🔥
This is giving me courage to go to the next level with my conversational skills with native Spanish speakers. I get anxious.
This video is 🔥🔥🔥🔥.....just got back on my espanol. I haven’t talked/learned Spanish since high school. 😳😳😳🤣🤣. Also it’s good to find a fellow black male who is fluent in Spanish! You’ve gained a new subscriber. I’m taking notes. Salute to you brother! 💯
Gracias mano. Stay tuned for the free lessons coming up soon.
I learned Spanish to fluency living in Chile and always looking for other high level speakers. You are probably one of the #1 non-native speakers I've seen out there! Mad props
There's more out there..lol
Top meant he's the best non-native
He's the goat lmao
that lady gave you a look (13:36) when you called her a señora 😆
Wow! Pero hablas sin miedo con la gente!!! Haha me encanta !! Your so confident ! Inspiration ! Lol
Rickie Walls gracias !!
13:36 she was willing to risk it all.
You are a real dominican!
Tienes derecho a ser Hispano
Te lo ganaste con tu Español.
I’m so glad I found this channel. Another african american on the journey to become bilingual to communicate with a wider spectrum of people
Same. It's very inspiring.
I know Spanish really well until I try to speak to a native then it’s like my mind go blank 😓 I guess that fear of failure then being laughed at .. Pushing through fears all #2020 thank you for the motivation ❤️
Confidence and courage is your answer. The only route to confidence is practice, even if you feel nervous 200 times in a row. Truth is, that nervousness or hesitation never goes away 100%, it just gets reduced to "no big deal" after a while. You'll be pleasantly surprised as you continue, just how much your initiative and interest will be appreciated.
People will light up, and take an interest in you. You'll likely find yourself having to limit or postpone a conversation at times, so you're not late for an appointment. You'll see, it'll be cool. As for those that may criticize or laugh ... again, no big deal. Very few native speakers will actually do that. If/when they do, most often they will let you know that they didn't intend any insult. Sometimes we may just sound funny because of our accent, or mispronunciation of a word, or even use a word that's considered inappropriate or vulgar in their country of birth.
All the best to you in 2020 y Dios te bendiga. =)
Eric OSAS Muchas Gracias mi amigo ❤️🙏🙏🙏
Also, I loved the "oh Bachata!". Sounds like me when I hear it playing. My favorite things when I was in DR was hearing Bachata on almost every street corner and seeing all the grandpas hanging out playing dominoes. If I could quit my job and move there tomorrow, I would.
Dustin CE me too
wow i just found your channel. soy afro boricua pero solo hablo un poco español y quiero aprender mas. i grew up around mainly the black side of my family (that doesn’t know much spanish) but i always get nervous when talking to fluent speakers but this video helped me. love your videos btw
Thanks for checking out my content!! I appreciate it. One of the first steps to speaking fluently is to speak with the natives. That will allow you to pinpoint your weak spots, and you can work on your weak spots on your free time without any embarrassment. Sigue pa'lante mamita! Blessings.
I'm 1st generation Dominican from Washington Heights. This guy sounds like my uncle!
Your channel gives me hope when I feel like giving up on this bilingual journey. Gracias!
Rickie Walls siii tienes razón otra vez! Pero muchísimas gracias!
This guy is amazing!! Loved the channel. He's got this unique vibe and has perfect Spanish, no accent whatsoever and perfect English. Awesome!
¡Mucho gracias por la inspiración mi hermano! 🙏🏾💯💪🏾
For some reasons I think actually speaking with natives kinda gives more confidence and helps a lot in speaking Spanish fluently.
It should! Keep it up!
I love your videos I'm Cuban🇨🇺 and Black-American 🟥⬛️🟩thank you for sharing❤ my father was Cuban rest his soul.. I been teaching myself how to speak spanish.
Love your videos bro! I've been studying Spanish for about a year and a half now, and your videos help a lot with approaching the language on a more informal and personal basis. Also, Spanish is beautiful! My background is Lebanese and I've always found the cultural similarities between Arabic and Spanish fascinating (one language dominating a whole region with so many dialects) such as every place having it's own greeting. Muchísimas gracias hermano
Nueva suscritora aqui!
Brother, thank you for this channel! I have studied several of your videos. I finally stopped putting it off and booked a stay in P.R. a few weeks ago. I went solo, and I am grateful I did. I confirmed my love of the people, the language, and the culture. I made a friend and we have spoken everyday since I returned to the states. I vowed to let go of my fear, and she is helping me
learn. I began my journey to Spanish fluency!!
I love how encouraging you are. Thanks for taking us along on your walk. It was very helpful 😊
I love encouraging you guys. I truly believe that you guys can learn as well.
¡Muchas gracias, Rickie!
I have been studying Spanish for about 3 weeks now. I recently met a lady from Spain 🇪🇸 at a party. I didn’t understand one word in 10 of what she said, but with her voice and that accent, I could have listened to her for hours. It sure motivated me to keep learning!
I stumbled across your channel a while ago and I am super impressed by how you learned and speak spanish. For you to be able to conversate back and forth with native speakers! Wow I can say no more.
Thanks so much for you support.! Hopefully this video let's you see that it is possible.
Yo vivía en South Beach, y me gustó tu video.
Thanks a lot Ricky. Me watching u go out and converse is helpful to watch. I'm going to take ur advice and try to use as much Spanish as I can. I appreciate u holding up your arm so long lol
Lol Thanks, I do it for you guys!
And yes do it. It may be uncomfortable but it gets better. : ) Thanks for watching.
Well well well... what a great discovery for a girl who wants to learn both of the languages you teach through your channel. I love that. +1
I’m Puerto Rican but my parents are super white washed so I never got to learn spanish. But now I’m trying to learn. It’s hard though because I have learning difficulties but I’m doing pretty okay. I hope one day I can be fluent 😁
love ur channel bro! 😁👍 greetings from Perú 🇵🇪
I love it. I live in Japan and my level is beginner and I love speaking Japanese when I can. I also learn Spanish. You really have to put yourself out there.
Hermano, ur Spanish is crisp. ¡Perfecto! I’m Puerto Rican, & I loooove orchata tambien!!!
You're so awesome. I went to the DR last October. I was nervous to speak Spanish. First time Being surrounded by so many Spanish speakers. There's a Spanish area in Detroit. Should have probably been going there all of these years. I'll start practicing more like you're showing us. 👌
"Shopping in Spanish"! hahahaha This video was great, thank you.
Thanks for the video, Rickie. This is exactly what I need to see. This is also one of the most fun videos so far. My written/reading Spanish is pretty good, but speaking/listening skills are lacking to say the least. I just got to get the nerve up to try to speak it.
My wife speaks Spanish fluently, but only by "force", so I haven't had any luck with getting her to practice it with me. Looks like I'll start rolling up to random strangers and give it a shot, jaja.
I'm really feeling these vlogs manito.
Gracias bro!! I'll do more videos like this. : )
Also, te quiero y me encantan tus videos, Rickie.
Excellent my brotha, keep it up and reaching out and making this world smaller and friendlier!! I have. Been speaking french because of my time in Canada, but not much opportunity to practice here in the states. I will start learning Spanish because it is such a wonderful language and so many great Spanish people and speakers here to speak with and learn from. The cultures of different Spanish dialects are Rich and interesting, who wouldn't want to learn different languages to learn of the cultures??!?! Excellent channel.
Keep your french. You don't need people to practice with if you practice with yourself. French is similar to Spanish so it shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm all about breaking the language barrier and getting along with others. Good luck to you amigo!
What you’re doing in this video is practically how I learned Spanish
Big UPs to you bro! You killing it..
Gracias!!!
Another excellent video with sound advice. Just as I don't always feel comfortable speaking with people I haven't met before, the same thing happens in Spanish or any other language. All the best for you in 2020 and beyond. Que Dios te bendiga hermano. =)
13:32 calls her basic and leaves with a smile I’m dying 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Woaw man! I can feel the vibe of your place.. I hate the weather in Denmark (where I live). Definitely going to find a job in a south america and speak fluent Español one day!!!
you inspire me man!! keep up the good work
Thank you!! You can do it too with practice and confidence.
I loved this just watching this gave me so much self confidence Gracia rickie
As always thanks for watching. I really appreciate your support on all of my videos. I sincerely thanks you, and am glad that I can help!
When dude tried to run up.. 🤣🤣🤣 I watched that part like 12 times just to see the look on his face. Hilarious!
Bro your awesome keep up the great work 🔥
love this video rickie! you make me wanna go out and chat with everyone!
Thank you!! Go ahead and do it without holding back!
El mío es “Que Rollo?” Ya tu sabes 💪🏼
Hey what's up bro
KEEP IT UP papa!😁👍
Love this video!! You should have a series of videos like this in every city you visit. What's your favorite greeting?!
Love your channel brotha! Keep it up!
Thans for checking it out! I appreciate it!!
I am from dominican republic and i like your channel klk
Your channel is so awesome
Solo he visto unos videos pero me encantaron.
Jajaja así es! Jaja.
Respect to you brother 🇩🇴 respetos hermano
Miami looks amazing. I hope I get to go there one day
I'm completely with u on what u saying about clothes and things u wear man u could pay $60 for what you're wearing or $360 and who even cares I'm real frugal like that too when it comes to myself at least.
Q chevere este video
You’re giving me Hispaniola vibes. I know you’re African American, but I’m seeing and hearing Dominican and Haitian vibes coming from you from the way you dress, put yourself together and talk/carry yourself. Nice. I’m ALMOST scared tbh 🇭🇹🇩🇴🔥.
Me encanta este video. Yo aprendí algo saludos nuevos.
Un gran video, mi socio. Soy afro-americano y parte cubano.
Ven a conocer a tu familia bro.
Me gusta decir como te va, y que lo que. Son los que más uso.
De nada bro! Y felicitaciones en tu aeromozo carrera! Necesito mucho a visitar Cuba y Miami.
You are so right.. Perder el miedo .. hazlo!
You are the man!!
Thank you I'm a beginner learning Spanish.
This makes me no less nervous than I already was, however it was so satisfying watching your Spanish roll off your tongue lol 😅👍🏾✨✨
Ay mi madre 🤣🤣🤣
Excelente video Mi Bro
Gracias mano!
Hey my man speaks Spanish better than me! A fan from Colombia South America.
Love your videos! Very helpful :)
Gracias, amiga! There will definitely be more like this. I'm making one today actually : )
Well done.
This was such a great video! Super helpful tips. I think it’s so wonderful to have to ability to talk to people from different cultures! We have more in common than we think. Hey Ricky have you had anyone surprised that you aren’t Latino? Your Spanish is amazing!!🙌🏽
Thank you!!! This kind of stuff is out of my comfort zone, but for you guys I'll keep making these types of videos. and Yes people always think I'm lying about where I'm from or about being non latino. They think my grandparents are Dominican or something lol. Makes me laugh.
Me encanta Miami!
Pro tip: If you have changed all your devices to Spanish and services (including Gmail, Chrome, UA-cam etc) and it is still suggesting you exclusively English content, use a VPN to change your IP to that of a Spanish speaking country. I found that was the only way that Google would get the message.
Those shades are very nice man 😎😎😎
Omg I love ur channel! I hope to be as fluent as you one day! ❤
Gracias mami! Con practica seras mejor que yo.

Lmaooooo! We got a few!!! #EnglishGreetings
Im learning spanish...I love it.
We have a few, but it doesn't compare to the many Spanish ones lol. Thanks for your comment, and good luck on your Spanish journey!!
I wouldn’t consider “Aye” as a greeting, I would definitely think someone is rude if they approach me with “aye” 😂 they better combine it with “aye what’s up”
@@makaylahammonds1253 it just really depends...Ive seen other people out in the streets, strangers and Ive been like "Ayyyeeee" cuz they're cute or their fit is nice...and they respond with a smile or an "Ayeee" as well. Now, family thats almost always how we greet each other. Ayyyeee bro, sis, fam....So, this wouldnt be appropriate to do in a professional setting but its definitely a thing...a greeting, for sure...not sure why you'd be offended...🤔
@@makaylahammonds1253 I thought about it lol, I guess I see what your saying. The "Aye" wouldnt be alone in the "greeting" it would be followed with something lol...
keep up the good work!
It's all about growth my friend!
After you walked away from the "como estas" señorita in the red shirt, she was looking like hey.. where you going??.. Shoulda kept that convo going!!!
he has a girlfriend already I think ahah! pero es bueno saber esta ESE facil!
I was thinking she looked angry because he told her that her favorite greeting was basic 😂😂😂🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
@@danamontilla1692 Good point! I'll stick with your intuition over mine :)
I'm lucky that I live near Lawrence Massachusetts and Methuen. There is a large Puerto Rican population and many Dominican people. 15 min and I can be working on my (currently terrible) Spanish.
dominicnas says dimelo as well manin dimelo klk en q tu ta? hahah you got my respect bro keep it up ta en eso
Lil s.n. though: English greetings you left out. What it do? What it is? What's poppin? How's it hangin? Not baggin on your perspective. Just thought I'd throw that in there. All language is versatile once fundamentals are understood. Thanks for another great video, my brother. Looking forward to the next vlog. Topic suggestion: Talk to women about the things guys say to them when they're tryna talk their way in. That will immediately intrigue.. I think. 😁✌🏿
Ricky I love your videos! And at 11:35 the lady that passed by thought u were drake! Lol
Thanks bro.!
And what the heck are you talking about?! lol She was paying me no mind at all hahaha
Rickie Walls lol she was like is that drake? As she passed by. That's why the 2 dudes had looked back at you.
Nah bruh. lol I don't think so jajaja
Impresionante!!👍
Gracias!
Bro can you do more of these talking to spanish speakers in public? I watch this one and the "who speaks the worst spanish" over and over again because they give me confidence lol.
I'm in the process of making more actually. Glad that you like them.
