Great work sir. I am designing and planning a similar project for my Dewalt miter saw. I have only 8' of space, so your more compact design totally fits the bill. I like how you created the depression for the saw by simply building two raised platforms on either side. Simple, genius. Thanks for posting.
Really like that set up and is what I am going to make as close to it as possible. Thank you 👍
When I look at your garage it's like looking at mine. I've been looking for someone to "spoon-feed" me how to setup a new woodworking shop and it looks like I've found them! Thank you so much for the great content!
No problem! Since we have the same garage, let me know if you have any suggestions of how to improve it!
Thanks for the video. I also wanted something simple for a miter saw station. I finally got me a 12" Dewalt miter saw and this will be perfect for it. Subscribed!
Glad you like it!
Thanks for sharing!
I'm really happy you covered all the plywood edges. Just because it's shop furniture doesn't mean it has to look terrible.
I agree! I just felt like I couldn't leave it like that.
Eggcellant very easy and quick thanks for posting sunny side up
Nice work! Very impressive.
Thank you!
Also I love your screen name!
Well done!
thanks. just what I needed for my first miter station build.
Great! Glad it helped.
Nice work, definitely pulling some tips from this for my new miter station. Thanks! nice quality video work and editing too. Subscribed.
Thanks I appreciate it!
thanks...many of these videos are over the top. there is a need for your design and video
Thank you! I love trying to come up with new ideas and designs; that's half the fun!
Bravo! Looks entirely appropriate to me.
Thank you!
Good job. Nice video and very good explained.
Nice. Simple and economical. Great work.
Thanks! It's been nice to have!
I'm glad you put in the angles on the the table to allow for the arm to swing. Most designs out there are only good for cuts up to maybe 30 degrees.
Yeah that gives me full range in both directions including the sliding feature.
Keep making videos. You have an easily understandable way of presenting your material
Thanks I'm glad you like it!
Great video! Im starting my work bench build this week it will also have a mitre saw station but on a flip top. So if needed in will have the whole bench if needed.
Thanks! Hope it gives you some ideas
Great Table! Thank you for sharing
No problem! Thanks for checking it out
I really like your design and structural engineering. As a furniture builder I've never had the need for a miter saw but may give it a look.
Thanks! I try to design it strong enough for me to stand on.
Learned a lot! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man!
This is awesome
It looks great!
Thanks! Great content on your channel too!
Great job thank you
Cool practical miter station.
Thanks! There's more to come
Great concept and well made video. I am definitely bookmarking and will revisit for ideas. My shop is in basement and I have my miter saw on a rolling stand. It's great for lumber for framing and such, but not so much for woodworking. My idea is a dual purpose miter station workbench, where the saw can store underneath and have a panel to fill in when not in use and make a continuous top.
Great idea! The more versatile the better
Nice setup! Pulled some ideas for my upcoming shop miter station. Subscribed.
Thanks! Glad it helped
Awesome!
Great design and a guy with a small shop? Subbed. Love to see how other people build out a shop in a shared garage.
Thanks! It's a work in progress but is definitely functional.
While not exactly what I am looking for, this project follows a thought I've been having about the miter station I want to build: Rather than lower the level that the saw sits on, I want to raise the level of the wings on either side. I also like how you incorporated T-track and a measuring rule into the wings. That said, I need to make a saw station that is even smaller than yours and has wheels for mobility. Thanks for stimulating my thinking on the subject.
Sure! Glad you liked it
I was just thinking of building a miter saw station :)
Great! It's been really nice to have it now. Hopefully this can give you some ideas!
Nice !! Going to build mine next week. BTW....we have the same beast-mode(as I call it) table saw. Heaviest thing I have ever tried to move !!!
Haha I like it... beast mode tablesaw!
Nice build. Good use of limited space!
Thanks! I think most of us are dealing with the limited space issue!
As for edging, iron on wood is a cheap alternative and easy to do. Great build. Functional and good looking cabinet.
Thanks! I've played a bit with iron on but it always seems flimsy and like it could peel off at any moment. Maybe I'm just getting the cheap stuff!
@@EveningWoodworker : I’ve used it and no issues. But your process is a lot better. I’ve used it mainly on edging Melamine cheers.
Yeah, I'm building this one
Great video. Thanks. Subscribed!
Thanks for the support!
Just got a 12” Dewalt sliding miter and didn’t realize how much larger it is compared to a standard miter saw. 😳 had to redo my entire bench for it; in the process now actually and just looking for ideas
Yeah they are a lot deeper. In this design I placed it as close to the wall as I could while still allowing full range of motion. It's really just the handle on the bottom that sticks out the extra 9 inches or so.
The birch 1 by 2 did more to support the saw than the extra plywood. Thanks for sharing.
Probably true, but I always like to over engineer stuff so I can be confident enough to stand on it!
Just subscribed. I'm loving all of your projects man. I bet your subscription numbers are going to get big fast. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! I appreciate the support!
nice
Short & sweet. Love it. Thanks for NOT trying to incorporate comedy "bits". Wished you had mentioned the sizes of side panels at least.
Just subscribe.. great build
Thanks!
Thanks! Excited to buy the plans! I wanted to point out in the description it shows a link to the DWS779 which is an absolute monster and much deeper in length compared to the one in the video and would need several inches more depth to clear the wall. Perhaps a link to the non sliding version would be more appropriate.
Thanks for the heads up. Mine is the DW718 which is an older model, but it's still a 12" sliding compound miter saw. amzn.to/3bRcaGM
Great video. Thnaks for sharing. How far back rom the front edge is the saw fence from the front edge of the new built bench.
I basically took my saw and placed it as about 1" off the wall, then built the top around that. The total cabinet is 28" deep.
Agree completely with your rationale. I have neither space nor time for elaborate designs and oversized fixtures. Also, aluminum is soft and can safely be cut with a normal blade. Just protect yourself from shavings, especially your eyes.
Yes make it work for your space. Most of us don't have a massive shop with space for a 12' long miter station!
How did you attach the cabinets to the base? Pocket holes and screws?
Brilliant video. Do you happen to have the plans on your website in metric at all please? Over in the UK and would love to build this. Cheers Chris
Unfortunately I don't have them in metric. You could do the conversion when you get the plans, but I realize that's a lot of converting!
Nice station. Have the same size work area you do . This should fit nicely. Hope you putout some plans for this project.
Thanks! Yes this one will have plans eventually but no promises on the date yet. I'll let you know if you're interested.
The Evening Woodworker Great job! My work area is approximately the same size so I’m definitely looking for something practical. I’m a hack when it comes to woodworking but it’s something I really enjoy and I’m just starting to reorganize my garage set up. Thanks for the inspiration. Do you have a timetable on the plans? Keep up the great work.
Thanks! I'm aiming to have those plans done in a month or so
@@nycali-tw2gl Plans are now available at eveningwoodworker.com
Nice build! Very practical in size and layout. You had mentioned below it was 28" wide, is that still working out for a table width? What type of plywood did you use? Thx
Yes the 28" depth is really nice especially for storing long scraps. The ply is a cabinet grade from HD of either birch or pine.
Anyone been able to find that metal measuring tape the the 12” offset numbers?
Sub'd because of this video. Someday I'll have a shop and this is going in it. I won't have a 1000 Sq ft like so many stations seem to need. Thanks for the video. Possible dumb question, but are all miter saws the same height off the table, or would that need to be adjustable if/when you got a new saw?
I think there's no rule or consensus on that height. I wouldn't finalize it until you have the saw. Or just make it adjustable
Very nice. What are the overall dimensions?
Great video!! Really nice table. You're clearly very skilled :-) Can I ask - what height did you make the mitre table so it was flush to the deck of the mitre saw? Looks like about 3"??? I'm about to do something like this - but was going to sketch-up before opening the box with the saw in it b/c I'm tight for space. Thank-you, great work!
Thanks! Mine is 3" but it depends on your saw table height
Question: what model miter saw do you have? Also does it slide the full track when mounted to the miter station?
I have the DW718 and yes it slides the full track even rotated to one side or the other. I don't usually use the compound feature on the saw so it may not lean the full range in that way.
I like it. Going to have plans eventually? Curious if you'll solve for repeated cuts of longer pieces of lumber.
Yes I will have plans eventually... in terms of the long lumber cuts, for now my plan is to still measure and cut to a line, but since you mention it, I may need to see what kind of inventive solutions I can come up with!
Plans are now available on my website eveningwoodworker.com
Man I love UA-cam!!
Yes! There's so much good content out there. Glad you like it!
Any advice for my Dewalt7485 table saw and a possible workbench build to extend the platform top? Currently I cannot rip a full sheet of plywood on this table saw.
Build a mobile workbench that you can sit your tablesaw on with wings on the side. I think @ShopNation has a design for one he's working on.
Great video man! What made you want to get the Dewalt sliding miter saw? I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on it, any regrets?
Thanks! I went with the dewalt mainly because it's the one I've seen in every shop I've worked in... high school, college, etc. No regrets and the newest model has a better dust shoot than mine.
The Evening Woodworker which model do you have?
Mine is the dw718
You don't necessarily need the De Walt, it's pricey, and there are good saws with less price. You may want to consider acessories like laser/light beams, which are really helpful, but not on all saws.
What kind of plywood are you using. It looks so nice. And where did you get it?
The plywood for the drawers and cases are actually a pine plywood that my local HD started carrying. The top sections are birch also from HD
Since space is a major concern, wouldn’t a miter saw like the Bosch’s GCM12SD make more sense instead of having the rear arms jutting out of the back? That’s gotta eat like 8-12” of space, no?
True that one would be nice, but I can't justify getting a new one when this one works great. This design puts it as close to the wall as I can.
I have the similar Dewalt DSW780 model saw as you. I'm pretty sure it has the same measurements. Anyhow, I feel like I have to have my saw much further from the wall than you do. Do you lock yours in at just cutting a certain width so it doesn't smack into the wall or is it far enough away from the wall that you can cut the full sliding width?
I have the saw as tight to the wall as I can while still utilizing the full range of motion.
Nice build. I like the inset t-track and wonder about it filling with dust. Also, what are you using for t-track stops to make multiple cuts? What I'm finding locally are pretty wimpy.
Doh! I didn't realize there were 2 parts ... thanks for pre-answering the question! ;-)
Haha, glad you saw that! The dust in t- tracks actually hasn't been that bad. Occasionally I will blow out the slots, but it's infrequent.
Great video. I bought the plans!
What is the Make / Model of the miter saw shown here? I have the Dewalt 779 will it fit?
Thanks for getting the plans! Mine is the DW718; I think the 779 should still fit though. They usually don't change the base but you may want to verify that it will clear the dimensions of the shroud when rotated to one side or the other. Have fun!
@@EveningWoodworker The 779 needs at least 32 in of depth because the dust port sticks out of the back of the rail (with the dust bag removed)
Very good video, I bought that same miter recently. What is the name of that rolled disc?
What point in the video are you referring to?
Awesome station for a small shop like mine. Mind me asking how long and wide you made it? Thanks!
Thanks! The top is 80 inches long and 26 deep
The Evening Woodworker Thank you so much for your reply. I’ll be picking up some plans soon as I’m ready to start building and I will definitely be checking out your other vids! One thing I’d like to do is see if I can modify your design a bit and build an attached bench to the right and a flip top drill press to the left. So pretty much you have about a 14 ft long piece, but has multiple uses. I have a two car tandem garage (9’ x 39) with only one wall I can really use, so I’m trying to figure it all out.
How dare you post a woodworking video without using every Festool tool known to man! And wait...no Woodpeckers products either?
I’ll be building this this week! Thanks! Great design!
Haha thanks man! Yeah I can't afford festool... and I have a hard time stomaching a $100 really really square square
Can you show how you made your track saw? Also, do you need a full size router table to make the T track guide or would a bench top size work. I’m looking to purchase a router and table. Or would a router guide work for the track? I might be over my head trying to make this. But, it would fit nice in my small garage. You make it look too easy!!
My "track" saw is just a circular saw with a wood plate on the bottom for a zero clearance cut with a board along the side for a nice square fence. Then I run it along a straight board. A bigger router table gives you more stability. You could also do it with a router and an edge guide
@@EveningWoodworker thanks for the reply! It’s a really nice station!
I need one on wheels to move it out of the way to get in the attic.
Put a couple casters underneath and you're good to go!
Is that a 12” sliding saw or 10”? Also how deep did you make your cabinet top? I’m planning on building a permanent mitre saw station with a 12” sliding dewalt chopsaw
This is the 12" sliding compound miter saw. The cabinet is 28" deep
How did you level the miter station with a sloping garage floor? It looks like the cabinets were just set on the frame. Do you use any leveling feet?
Yes I added some shims under the base to make sure it was level. The garage floor does slope but mine is pretty minor.
It looks like you have the same model miter saw I just bought. How did you set up your dust collection for your set up?
Check out the part two video for my miter station. I explain it in that video; I have a dual setup. One connection for a shop vac and one connection for a dust collector.
@@EveningWoodworker I will do that. Thank you.
How wide is the opening where the saw sits? Trying to make sure my dws779 will fit.
The width is 26". If that doesn't work it wouldn't be too hard to customize the plans to fit your saw.
How did you insert the ruler into the table by the t track? Do you have a video of u using the t track?
The ruler is stuck into a super shallow dado that is maybe 1/16" deep next to the T-track dado. Some of my other videos have me sliding it around to make cuts. It works great!
I’m blown away by your skill set. The dove tail drawers are amazing. Maybe you can go into more detail on how you build them? I saw in your miter saw build the quick vid clip using the router on One side, I wasn’t sure what you used on the other side to complete the dovetail. Please consider filming A video on various joinery.
Can you direct a novice / intermediate woodworker on how to improve? I’m good at framing, building simple shelving and basic construction wood work but I would very much like to learn how to build furniture and drawers the way you do; any recommendations for improvement?
What is the depth of your miter saw table? I have DWS780 and my table is 25” depth, but it is close to the wall, do I have to move it forward?
My table is 28" deep and the pivoting handle sticks a few inches out beyond that. The back of the box is just 1/4" plywood so it's as thin as possible
The Evening Woodworker thank you
I like your design only think the price of plywood here in Canada has skyroketed since covid. Do have plans for a similar design but with 2x4 or something more cost efficient?
Yeah lumber is really pricey right now. I don't have another design, but you could modify it by making the frame out of 2x4 and keeping the drawers plywood.
@@EveningWoodworker ok great thanks. If i do decide to use your plans and use plywood, how many sheets would i need?
How tall do you make the wings so they are even with the saw table???
Each saw is different so measure yours, but mine was 3".
What size is the wood that you used for the legs and the wood on top the legs to make level with saw ??
Just measure the height of your saw base/cutting surface when sitting on a table. I think mine was about 3".
Hi, I purchased the plans today. No links to download. can you please fix that for me? Wilfredo R Pena from Au.
Thanks, for your prompt reply. I got the plans. Well done. cheers.
Great build! I'm stealing your design as I type this. :) Do you have plans available?
Thanks! I'm working on finishing the plans right now.
Getting ready to do this myself and love the design. Rough time frame when plans would be available and link to get it? Thank you and keep up the good work.
@@EveningWoodworker Great thanks!
Glad you like the design! The plans should be done in the next 2-3 weeks. I'll let you know and when finished they will be posted on my website eveningwoodworker.com/plans
@@Applsd02 Plans are now available on my website eveningwoodworker.com
Good table! What size ? This saw is too wide!
The table is 28" deep which allows the saw to be right up against the wall.
Upon re-watching: Not only are the scale and details appropriate, so are the brevity, subdued music, and "light" narration. If the viewer is serious enough woodworker to own a miter saw, they ought to be able to customize your design and figure their own dimensions. Your miter saw station would have been right at home in the work spaces of Krenov and Maloof.
That's quite a compliment! Thanks! I try to make my videos efficient but informational. Otherwise I get bored watching them!
Why did you use pocket screws for all the brace joins? Why not just countersink regular screws?
Also, isn’t 8 pocket screws on each of those braces overkill?
See your email...
How many sheets of plywood was the build?
It took 4 sheets of 3/4" and almost 3 sheets of 1/2". I have the full set of plans with cut sheets and everything available on my website: eveningwoodworker.com/buyplans
Ply is commonly used in America, what is the cost of ply compared to MDF?
A sheet of 3/4" cabinet grade ply is usually about $10-$15 USD more than MDF here, but it can be even more if it's a hardwood veneer. I also strongly dislike cutting large sheets of MDF because of the fine dust that goes everywhere so it's worth paying a bit more for ply.
@@EveningWoodworker wow, thanks, I've often wondered why Americans use so much ply. A similar sheet of ply here is close to $100, and good ones are a lot more. MDF and melamine is less than $40
Wow that's quite a difference! What country are you in? A sheet of 3/4" black walnut plywood would be in the "close to $100" range but half that for the birch or oak.
@@EveningWoodworker in the uk it's about £30 for 8×4 18mm MDF and about £45 for Marine play.
I purchased the plans but can’t open the sketch up file on my MacBook. Why is this?
I'm assuming we already resolved this through our DMs. Good luck!
The Evening Woodworker yes sir. Thank you!
Do you have plans for your push block?
In my miter station plans, I have instructions on the stop block, but are you referring to my tablesaw push block?
Yes. I have tried different ones, still trying to find that comfortable fit
Here's what I prefer: ua-cam.com/video/_7MjjuaZAX8/v-deo.html
Was it just me, or did this guy totally look like a midget at the beginning of the video?!
Sick work station, love the design and functionality, thanks for sharing.
Haha! You caught me! I was kneeling down for the intro so I could fit into the shot easier.
@@EveningWoodworker LOL.. when the video started after the intro I was like, same dude... with legs!...haha.. great build video, liked and subbed
