I used same tip from Jay bates and also put a locking washing and nut on carriage bolt to ensure it wouldn't raise or lower over time from vibrations . Like the ext. Wings adding tht to mine
I saw this mitre station video and liked the simplicity of not having the side guides that would take up the counter top space. Then, I watched a gentleman from England explain why you might NOT want those side wings/guides. If an eight foot long piece of stock were even slightly warped, the side guide would keep it from being flush on the saw table where it must be in order to get a proper cut. Not having those side guides permits the longer, possibly slightly curved piece to be cut using the in-top stop as you’ve used here. I didn’t want to lose the counter top functionality and your system solves that. Even with removable wings, your system is more functional and equally as accurate. Great job. I also thought a tape track could be routed out just in front of the track and inset. As you have it, it’s very useful.
Bought the plans this morning and will build a modified version of this station. My shop is being setup in a barn with very un-level floor so I’ll use 4x4 posts to support the saw and use leveling feet. The rest will be built using the wood from my existing station which is screwed together. But the new version of my station will use the footprint of the current and look a lot like yours and be based on your plans. Thank you. Update - I started building this mitre station and completed one module minus the top. I disassembled my existing mitre station as it was not working for me and am reusing the lumber. I will not build the drill press module however as I have another option for my drill press. I’ll be building one or two additional modules to fill in the space the original station occupied. I have a Hutachi 12” compound mitre saw so I have to adjust shelf measurements a bit to accommodate it. But your plans are awesome! Update 2- the base is built. Next item to complete is the installation of the T-track and making the stop block.
Great video. Someone who finally shows how to measure the depth of the miter saw base and install it. Loved the clamps to place the base onto for easier install. Can’t wait to see how this miter station evolves. Looking forward to how you implement dust collection.
This will be my first build in my workshop as I plan my retirement for December 31st. I will add an additional 2 ft extension to the left of the drill press for my benchtop band saw. Thanks!
5/8/2019 USA Grandpa Bill: DIY Montreal, This will be unusual. I'm 71 and if you were my daughter or granddaughter I would feel so proud. This is a heart thing. I look at you and my heart just kind of swells up in a glow. This is really unusual for me. Your attention to detail and ability to communicate clearly with precision in a voice of caring humility combined with your selections of applications is comforting. I really like this modular table set-up. Furthermore, I really like your little garage. It is a great way to start. You are a living demonstration of starting in a one-room shack and growing into a castle. I can see it coming. You have all the qualities of success. Thank you for posting, and I wish you the best results from UA-cam.
Thank you again for such a kind show of support. I really appreciate it! Makes me want to continue making videos :-) My workshop is in hiatus for the moment due to some renovation work affecting the structure, but I'll be back soon!
Grandpa Bill saw it coming - 357.000 followers by now! And rightly so. No doubt one of the best DIY channels out there. Keep it up Marie 👍 Love from germany 🇨🇦🇩🇪
I’ve watched what feels like 100 miter saw station builds from basic frames to full on cabinets and this is easily my favorite. Your added drawers on another video sealed the deal. I plan on building a similar setup. Nicely done and great editing too!
Great design and simple, quick, and cheap to build. I started on mine this past weekend. Skipped the drill press section and added a couple shelves below. 8' to the left of the miter saw, 3' to the right. Space for the shop vac and dustright separator under the saw and section to the right.
Nice job you remind me of April Wilkerson before she got to big for her boots. Nice to see someone working out of a space that most of us have any not some massive over sized work shop.
Thanks! I guess it's hard not to grow and go big when your life is all about making stuff and putting out content. Hope to have the chance to be in her shoes one day! But for now my humble shop works just fine ;)
I have to add to my first comment. This build is so clear and simple I stated that I loved it. I need to add that I can build complex projects but why would you when this plan can be done quickly and later than embellish it with any touches you would like. A+
Thank you for the plans! I made some changes to add an interchangeable miter / router table. I took the router section, added supports front and back, added rails at specific heights and was able to either slide in the chopsaw or the router table.
Just stumbled upon your videos. Was amazed how you were able to drill all those holes for your pull-out extension support with a Forstner bit freehand and keep all of the holes level and parallel. I couldn't do that - And you had a drill press readily available but didnt use it!
Omg this was fantastic! Currently I’m needing to build shop mitre station... really everything that a beginning woodworker/builder would need so I greatly appreciate your videos and solutions for annoying shop problems!!! Thank you so much for sharing and I’m impatiently awaiting your shop builds and storage solutions
I'm new to wood working and this is exactly what I've been looking for. So many others on this format are so over done and beyond me at this time, but this, this is perfect.... Thank you!!
I know I'm 3 years late in posting, but I'm just starting my small wood shop at age 61 and after looking at all kinds of videos on this subject, this is exactly what I need to do to start. I will follow more of your videos, and yes I did subscribe, so thanks for posting this video ! Cheers from an old guy in Utah... ;-)
Just happened to stumble across your site. Was looking for ideas to build a miter saw station. There are a lot of great stations people are building, but over the top. I bought your plans and modified to my specs. Works exactly the way I needed. Thanks, looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Hi Marie, great job. Top tip for you. When drilling the holes for the rods, if you hadn't got the right sized Forstner you could take an oversized flat spade bit and grind the edges down evenly until you get the diameter that you want. I did this when fitting tubes into 2 x 4 to make a timber rack. I think Jay Bates did the same, although I'd seen it elsewhere as well.
Love your builds. Add a nut and a lock washer to the carriage bolt before threading them on the legs. then when legs are leveled you can lock them from turning due to tool vibration.
Very Nice. I love the carriage bolt in the leg tip for leveling. Nice use of t-tracks for the stop blocks and a very clever way to add the extension bars and support.
Thanks. I really enjoy your videos. I have the same mitre saw and am just about to build my own setup. I'm going to use your approach for stop blocks. I hadn't thought of adding runners onto it like that, sounds like the perfect solution. I also picked up a pair of those princess auto rollers after seeing you use them in your desk build video, they have come in super handy. When you're working alone and in a limited space you have to get creative sometimes! Go habs!
Nice miter station. I like it better than than a lot others I’ve seen It’s very simple and the thing is, you don’t need a fence. A fence is only important at the cut line.
I really loved your extension solution as well as how you integrated the drill press without losing any surface for stock. You earned a subscriber...great work!
Frankly, that 'support' didn't look to be too sturdy at all. Extended, I suspect the support end would fall below the level of the table (doesn't appear to be touching that 2x6 in the picture 8:32). One 'quick' fix might be to drill the holes in the slider piece lower in the slider than in the end of the bench - thinking that, this would tend to raise the support block as it was extended possibly countering the effects of gravity on it and the conduit(?) tubes that held it. You could 'capture' the top itself between 'French Cleats' front and rear such that (well sanded and Bees Waxed) the right hand section of the top would (t-track, stop and all) slide right to offer some support to a longer scrap of material. With three (or 4) feet of support to the right of the blade, why would one need to extend that support? Dust collection is far more critical a concern as, regardless the length of the material, you will be making saw dust out of everything you cut. Storage, then might be the next thing to consider. In this case, what twelve feet wide/long, a couple feet deep and thirty odd inches above the floor 1,875,384 cc (hey, the Canadian Metric System!) is a lot of space to waste! Don't pay for plans to build this! If you are to make the effort (and expense - see what a 2x4's going for a Lowes lately?) find some plans of a more comprehensive solution. The Samuri Carpenter has a video link to my right as I write this that appears worthy of one who can afford to spend for a SAWSTOP and the Bosch Chop Saw - maybe they're trying to comp some stuff from Kregg!
Nice. I like the open space instead of a fence for the stop blocks--my only concern is that any horizontal surface is at risk for becoming a dumping ground! Cool extension rods idea. Thanks for your clarity and good productions.
This is one of the best designs for a miter saw station that I've seen! A lot of your ideas are excellent and creative. Thanks for such a great demonstration!
Nice build. I have just made a new miterstation myself. Underneath is closed cabinets, holding the shopwac and the dustdeputy. Noise is reduced that way.
Love your videos and how you leave your mistakes in and say, don’t do it this way. I’m building out my new shop and using some of your plans, thanks for sharing
@DIYMontreal I also have a tiny garage and I have been struggling for two years trying to come up with a starting layout for the shop. I think this is the best one I have found yet.
Thanks! Sometimes I feel like I spend too much time thinking about my builds before actually building them but now at least I can say that all the planning pays off! :-)
I like your project. The extension looks like no body make it before. And installing the drill press on the same table and at the same time is out the way when using the miter saw. I love it. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from California.
I'm still a beginner at woodworking, and my fiancee and I are in the process of purchasing our first home. Nicely done Marie. Your tip on levelling is excellent (why didn't I think of that!?). Keep up the good work. You now have a loyal subscriber in Ottawa!
I really appreciated your video! Though I would love to make shop cabinets out of 100% plywood, the expense is prohibitive and all I get from spending the money is nicer looking cabinets. I need sturdy, functional and inexpensive cabinets that look pretty good. Your miter saw station is the perfect blend of al my requirements. Thank you very much!
Just finished the main part of build, still have to get to t-track and stop block part but already LOVING this build. Made first cut on new station (to build a moxon vice) and FINALLY I don’t have to worry about long board support. Loving this as much as the great bol de café in Montreal (worked in Laval 3years)
Very elegant build, I really dig everything about this. Small suggestion: Add a hex nut to each of the carriage bolts, so that once you have the height set, you can secure it from slipping out of adjustment.
Great video and explanations. Your t-track gave me a great idea for my miter saw station. Two small comments - 1) Your table extension should match the height of your table and 2) I'd cover the back of the drill press station too since dust and wood will get into there and under the table and is harder to clean. Other than that - GREAT miter saw station. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing your process with us. I'm currently planning how I want to build out my new shop and I picked up a few great tips here. Those simple leveling feel will help me address the issue of my wavy concrete. I also liked your stop block design.
Thanks! The leveling feet are really great for uneven concrete. Just need to spend at little time adjusting all the feet to get it all level but it's worth it.

Very cool. I like the simple approach to the T track
Thanks!
Very straightforward. I love clear communication.

Thank you for the plans! I made some changes to add an interchangeable miter / router table.
I took the router section, added supports front and back, added rails at specific heights and was able to either slide in the chopsaw or the router table.
Great idea to use the combination square to get the right height on the mitre saw station.
Thanks! Figured it was more accurate than just measuring.
This is actually one of my favorite miter station builds. I really like the approach and procedures you followed. Works well.
Thanks very much!

Yes everyone ALWAYS has to be so over complex and humbly brag. So over overcomplex shop builds unless it's fine furniture.
Fantastic build. Simple and covers all aspects needed. I like the fenceless approach
Thanks!

Yeah! T nuts and carriage bolts 💚
Love the stop blocks. I think a el shaped stop for short setups would be great on at least one side ,just for those very short cuts.
Great idea! Maybe an addition I'll add on.

Well laid out and should last you a long time
I really like the extension wings! Great build, Marie!
Thanks Bruce !
This inspired me to get off my butt and finally build my miter station. I borrowed a lot of aspects of your design thank you so much for this video ❤️
I really loved your extension solution as well as how you integrated the drill press without losing any surface for stock. You earned a subscriber...great work!
Those stop blocks sliding in the tracks is such a simple but amazing idea. I love it
You did well, good design and well executed. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the inspiration. I saw this a couple years ago and tried to integrate your sliding extension wings into my mobile design.
Love the idea and implementation of the extending support with the conduit/pipes. I’m going to use that when I make mine. So simple and easy.
Awesome, glad it was useful

Thanks! Pretty affordable as far as miter stations go.
cool station. ruler marks on runner track wouldb ee cool
Sure would, thinking of adding that 👍
Incredible craftswomanship!
Thanks 😊🙌🏻
Awesome build enjoy watching your videos thank you for sharing
¡¡¡ BRAVO !!!
Un trabajo verdaderamente bien pensado y bien ejecutado.
¡¡ Felicidades !!
Excelente idea 🇲🇽
This is a really innovative design. nice job
Thanks, appreciate it!
Well conceived and executed ... it turned out beautifully. It should prove very convenient for years to come. Cheers ...
Thanks!
Excellent build, simple but effective 👍🇬🇧
bravo beau travail
Merci beaucoup!
Nice. I like the open space instead of a fence for the stop blocks--my only concern is that any horizontal surface is at risk for becoming a dumping ground! Cool extension rods idea. Thanks for your clarity and good productions.
Very impressive and inexpensive way for building chop saw station.
Love your videos.
Très joli travail bravo salut Jeannot 🛠😉
Merci beaucoup!
Super nice build. Really like the drill press addition
J'aime beaucoup ce que tu as fait ! Ça me donne quelques idées !
Super, merci beaucoup!
This is one of the best designs for a miter saw station that I've seen! A lot of your ideas are excellent and creative. Thanks for such a great demonstration!
Thank you so much!
Nice build. I have just made a new miterstation myself. Underneath is closed cabinets, holding the shopwac and the dustdeputy. Noise is reduced that way.
Thanks! I'll need to do something like that too.
Yeah... this is REALLY well done. Simple, easy to build, multi-functional. One of those "now why didn't I think of that" moments. Thanks for sharing.
I like the drill press addition.
The pull out extension is simple but a genius addition! This is a great miter station! Thank you for doing this video!
Thanks, appreciate it!
Te felicito, eres la carpintero mas bella e inteligente que he visto, saludos!

I really like the sliding stop blocks! And the extension bars. Two great ideas I will steal for my build. Thanks for posting the video.
Awesome, my pleasure! Thank you
Awesome vid! If you saw several "flashes" of light to the West-South-West... that was me... serious lightbulbs going off in WA... Thanks again for the GREAT vid!!!
I’ve seen dozens of videos of miter station builds and this is by far my favorite. Thanks!
Very good, simple design and implementation. Thanks.
Very nice build!
Thanks!
Love that extension wing idea!
Thanks!
Nice simple design
Thanks!
Hey DIY Montreal! Miter saw looks good in the station. Some cool features too. The extension wing is a great idea. I put extension wings on my custom job site miter station and they come in handy often.
Awesome, I'm sure they do come in handy on the job site! Thanks :)
Thank you for that impeccable demonstration ! Love the simplicity of the design and use of tools. GREAT !
Great video. One of the simplest but most effective setups I have found so far. Thanks.
Great ideas Marie, Thank you very much.
Hello from calgary. Liked you build will use your stop system. thnx
Awesome, hope you enjoy it as much as I do! It's a real pleasure to use :)
Just finished the main part of build, still have to get to t-track and stop block part but already LOVING this build. Made first cut on new station (to build a moxon vice) and FINALLY I don’t have to worry about long board support. Loving this as much as the great bol de café in Montreal (worked in Laval 3years)
Great setup!
Very elegant build, I really dig everything about this.
Small suggestion: Add a hex nut to each of the carriage bolts, so that once you have the height set, you can secure it from slipping out of adjustment.
Good tip 👍
Simply perfect.
Thank you so much!
I used your plan for the Miter Station and Drill Press, and I really like it. Thank you so much!
Thanks, and just to clarify the extension arm is the exact same height at the tabletop.
Parabéns excelente ideia, grande abraço 🇧🇷
Obrigada!

Great job Marie! Another awesome build.
Thank you! :)
Beautiful I love it Marie.
I like this design, especially the tee track and stop. I have tiny work space unfortunately so can't take advantage of it. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, Wish you had more room to build this!
Beautiful job
Excelente proyecto!
Thank you!
Nice build!
Thanks!
Bella como tu trabajo, saludos desde CDMX.
Gracias!
Absolutely outstanding. I love it and need one.
Awesome! Thank you :-)
Great build! I really like how it works in the space around the uneven floors and odd shaped walls.
Thanks! I'm taking custom to a new level in my shop... and no always by choice!
