    I think that drawer construction is great. Handles too. Very functional as well. Plenty strong. The dovetails holding the front on will probably hold up for years of yanking on the drawer front to open it. I doubt they will ever fail. I love how the bottom of the drawer is used as a slide. Smart, simple, easy, and economical. Wear is negligible. Some might argue that real slides would be superior, but they are also expensive. I'm with you on this approach. I'd rather spend that money on some nice hardwood for a project than like 40 drawer slides.
    The handles are great too I think. Good job here, good ideas, good execution. Simple easy to access materials all around. It's great.

    Thanks for the tip about scoring before routing to prevent tear-out. Drawers are great: no expensive slide hardware required. Handles look awesome. Slide ease? Where can that be purchased? Any wax will work? The indexing blocks at the corners of the saw are a great idea, as they will prevent the saw from turning when you swing it over to make an angled cut.

    Instead of using a 12” block in front of your stopblock and trying to remember which color numbers to look at, you could make a long stopblock that overlaps the mitersaw and references measurements off the far side of the block. Your zero mark may be 12” away from the blade, but if the stopblock is also 12” long your cuts will still be accurate.

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  3 роки тому +1

      That's true... I went with the separate blocks though because that gives me more length farther away from the blade.

    What about using a long register/duct cover laying flat behind the saw with boards slanted all around it like a funnel and then have another smaller funnel under the grate that hooks up to your vacume hose. That way all the dust has nowhere to go but down into your containment vacume/ bucket etc.

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  4 роки тому

      That's a great idea! That would probably work better for collecting the dust below. I just kept this simple for now so I could get using it. Also keep in mind that dust particles are not round like a ball so they don't really roll downhill. They tend to stick to everything!

    I like the dust hood too. How well does it work? I don’t use a dust hood. I find that with my 135,000 CFM I just need to get the 14” port within 10’ of my saw and it’ll suck every dust particle up. The thing is I have to bolt my saw down coz the first time I fired it up almost sucked my saw up into the dust collector. Ya see, more power is key 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

    • @EveningWoodworker

    Nice piece of work. Because the engine of the saw produces a lot of noise is it a good idea to isolate the part where the saw is located? My little garage is near to my living room. Does somebody knows what I can do to reduce the noise? • @EveningWoodworker

      The baffle box was my attempt at diffusing the suction from the vacuum dust collector as you suggested. I haven't tested it without it so it may not even be necessary but I've seen it done before so I thought I'd try it.

    Hey Jared. Great build. I'm about to do something similar. How much top space do you have both left and right of the saw blade? Have you had any difficulty when cutting long boards, say 6 to 8 lengths? Thanks in advance.

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  3 роки тому

      I sized it so it has enough space to use the full range left and right although not the tilt feature. I've cut boards up to 10 feet without a problem. There's enough space to support a long board, you just have to hold down the short end where you normally would to cut it

  • @thomasclemens1386
    @thomasclemens1386 3 роки тому

    I liked your stuff but a few questions.
    1) it appears that you have a sliding mitre saw but don’t use the slide function? Am I correct? If I’m wrong how does the dust collection work when you use the slide?
    2)is the dust collection at the back of the blade permanently mounted? Do you ever need to do compound miter cuts? Do you have and drawings etc of the back of the blade collector. On my sliding Dewalt there’s very little space between the bevel gauge for the compound miter cuts and the end of the saw. Thanks for any suggestions

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  3 роки тому

      The saw does have its full sliding capacity which i use on wider boards. The dust collection works better when it's not sliding but still does a decent job. And no I hardly ever do compound cuts so I was okay not using that capability. If I need to, though, the dust collection part is removable

    Can you comment on how smoothly the drawers slide, especially when they are full? It seems like a great labor and cost savings to avoid metal slides if the slides can be made smooth enough. Also, did you round over or chamfer any of the sliding surfaces or just leave them all square? Thanks for the great video.

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  4 роки тому

      The drawers slide surprisingly well even with a lot of weight. The key is putting the slide-eeze on both the dado and tab. I have been using this drawer design on my workbench for 3 years now and I still love it. The sliding surfaces are all still square with some light sanding along the edges to break the sharp corners.

    nice built, especially the dust collection. mitre saws are not very dust-friendly

      Thanks! Yes the dust collection is always tough on a miter saw.

    Great build. Convinced me to not build a fence 🙂. Do you mind sharing where you got your adhesive tape measure. That is the last purchase for my new miter station.

      Thanks! I got the Starrett brand ones on Amazon. Just make sure you get a left to right and a right to left for either side of your saw.

    What blade do you use on your saw??

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  2 роки тому

      I use an 80 tooth diablo blade. It works very well and I haven't had an issue. Don't use the dewalt blade that comes with the saw. I've had two warped blades before from that

      @@EveningWoodworker thanks! I just got my hands on the delta cruzer and loving it. I will throw that blade on it. I also watch your part 1 and part 2 and mirrored your station just made mine a tad bigger I love it. Would love to show you a pic don’t know how I could on here though lol

    Great videos, but please an evening woodworker does not have so many tools. This is a professional quality build for professionals by professionals. Nothing part time about it.

      Thanks! I try to make things as professional looking as possible. I find that the more I build stuff, the more tools I end up getting! But evenings are still when I do 80-90% of my builds
