I would not normally complain about background music in a video, unless it is particularly obnoxious or it drowns out the informations being provided.. The information provided is more important to me that the backhround music. However, I find that I prefer videos that have no, or very low volume, background music, and I am more likley to subscribe to and revisit that type of video. Having said that, it's your channel, so your choice.

I used your basic plan to build my miter saw bench, I have a similar tool chest. I used only wood I reclaimed from pallets including the plywood top. I made it mobile with castors as I have very limited space and that will allow me to do longer projects. Thank you for sharing. Wish I could attach a picture.

Almost finished with my miter saw table. This is only my 3rd build and am learning a lot. Old dog new tricks. I am waiting for the knob kit to arrive so I can finish up. I modified the size to fit my tight space and had to go with white melamine because I couldn't find anyone with black in my area but it'll work all the same. I'll post pics when I am done. Thanks for the instructions!

From old woodwork, very nice job you really don’t need the background music. The most enjoyable things I did in the shop was building stuff for the shop. I enjoyed the video !

I think I've binged my way backwards through this build, but I genuinely LOVE how simple yet totally practical these tables and benches are. No pretentious over engineering, just simple designs that are entirely customisable. New work top required? Unscrew and replace. New drop saw with different dimensions? Replace the section specific to it between the cabinets. Designs that grow with your shop that don't need to be fully rebuilt are the best. Best believe I have these videos saved for when I get space for my own full time workshop.

Just started building mine - a word of wisdom to all those using metric lengths - 2400mm is NOT the same as 8ft! it's a little short of 8ft, so when looking at the cutting diagram in the free plans, pieces 14 and 15 will make the cross pieces a little too short. I suggest that you cut a couple of 'shims' from the offcuts of the other lengths and glue them to the ends of the cross pieces before you pocket hole them. Other than that Zach has made a fantastic bench with easy to use plans. I cannot wait to finish it.
Oh and Zach, with prices as they are now for wood, this came out at £190 ($241), that is with an MDF top (I'll buy stick on melamine) and no edge trim.
I love watching your builds. Keep the videos coming.

You handled the volume of the music well. I could hear everything you said because its volume dropped while you were speaking. It isn’t my kind of tune but if it really got to me I can turn off the volume altogether and turn on captions. Just finished fabricating a new fence for my saw. I will probably make this station in the future. I am an ‘over 60’ grandma and am finishing up building an addition for my laundry room.

Hello from Canada Zack. I want to send you a thank you for the GREAT video. I know this was 3 years ago, and you were just new to UA-cam but I have to say that you did an amazing job of explaining your process. Also your volume and music was not OVERPOWERING like so many other creators videos. The build was very easy to follow. And your plans are simple and clear, and adding in the part where you show the best way to maximize your 2x4’s was a very considerate addition. I took bits and pieces from your plans and made it my own. And that was the BEST part of this design, a very solid simple design that can be expanded on. MUCH APPRECIATED.

Just found your channel and you've definitely got the camera and editing skills. I think I may do a modified version of this. I'm thinking the base for the saw will get its own legs, the sides will have the rockler step casters, and use the toggle latches like on your modular assembly table build. This way they can serve multiple purposes. Sometimes I just need that bit more assembly room! Also nice to see someone finally build something at a reasonable work height. I'm 6'5" and feel your pain with all of the kitchen counter height stuff. My 42" tall saw horses always annoy my Father In Law.

Great video! Not sure why I'm just seeing it 2 years later but at least I'm here now. Music doesn't bother me too much but I wouldn't mind if it were a bit lower. Here's a tip you might want to try (assuming it hasn't been suggested already): When you were gluing the legs together they slipped around a lot. After you spread the glue, sprinkle a "pinch" of table salt into the glue. Grains of salt are very sharp and will help eliminate the slippage while you get the clamps installed, then dissolve. Keep up the great work!

Great video! I noticed you had some splitting of the particle board when you added the first screw on the left fence. Just a suggestion but after drilling your pilot holes, use trim screws near the edges. They have smaller heads and won’t cause that split like the drywall screws did.😊

  • @swampybman7741
    @swampybman7741 2 роки тому +1

Very nice work and plans! May I suggest that you raise the height of the fence by 1/8 in. This allows sawdust to escape and not throw off your measuements along the board's length. Yes, one can clean out that space with a brush, but to make the plan perfect raise the fence by one eight of an inch to keep production going. You made the build very well done! Looking foreward to more builds!

Great suggestion. I would also add a half circle on the back side for the saw's power cord to go down and /or dust collection in the future. But this is a start and it really gets me in the right direction.

Stumbled upon your video when looking for something to watch while eating lunch. It was entertaining, even though I don't need a bench. In fact, I built something similar for my shop. The reason for the comment, though, is about that old Ryobi table saw there in the back. I have one of those, too, although it is no longer in use. I think I bought mine in 1994! It was OK in it's day and I built a lot of cabinets with it.

Thanks for the video and the plans. I just finished my mitre saw table and next up is the latching modular workbenches. That will be my project for this weekend. On the mitre saw table, I had to put adjustable legs on mine since the garage floor is uneven and I used sanded plywood for my tops and fence. I then put paste finishing wax on the whole thing and I like the way it turned out. Thanks again for the video and plans.

I like your table(s). Pretty much what I want to build so will follow your plans. You mentioned that you got some rough edges from the circular saw when cutting the melamine faced board. That's probably because you have to turn the board upside down so that the circular sawblade cuts into the melamine not out of it, giving break out.

  • @thombarker7579

I'm in the midle of my build and realized while I was cutting wood that if I ran the 2 X 4's through my joiner to square up the edges, which is a great idea, the length for the shorter fron and back legs needs to be adjusted. Also, I have been using 2 1/2" screw instead of the 3" in the plans because 2 stacked 2 X 4's is 3" and I felt the screw would blow out especially on the legs. I have completed all my framing and will pick up the melamine soone to complete the build. Thanks for the plans. Thom

I built 2 stands similar to that for my aquariums to sit on, all I had to work with was a black & decker 3/8 drive drill, a Rockwell 4-1/2" circular saw, and a 25ft. Stanley tape measure, materials were 2X4s and 3" woodscrews, both stands have been holding up 2,100lbs. of water for the last 10 years, and are as strong now as the day I built them with untreated lumber, 😀

The idea of showing the design coming progressing as you build it with animated graphics--keep that coming. Zach, actually was going to say that 17 min of that music was annoying, but you’ve already figured that out. Some folks use even worse music & so loud that no matter how great the skills, I move on to something that doesn’t scramble my brain while I’m trying to learn.
Speaking generally of all UA-cam videos.. If the content is good & the teacher is good, why add the distraction of mind numbing background noise? It’s a deterrent to their channels, not incentive to watch more.

A+ except for not using a countersink bit before screws, LOL. This is really a great option for a cheap bench. I'm doing similar but no need to double the 'legs'. It's over kill and waste of lumber. However, at least we can afford 2x4's again in 2024.

What I really like is that you designed it to take a roll away tool chest as I have one too and this will be perfect for my needs. Just came across this build, wondering how the black melamine has held up after a few years?
I love the look, just wondering how durable it is compared to 3/4 plywood

I have had zero issues with it you can see me still using it in my latest video

video and the miter station look fantastic! however that glue on the fence is not going to hold anything since you attached it to the melamine. the brads and screws are the only thing holding it now. and that'll probably be enough for a fence. If you wanted a glue adhesion, you would need to route a rabbet even if only deep enough to cut away the melamine and then adhere the particle board to particle board.

Good point about the glue, but the brads and screws should be good enough since the fence won’t be taking any major loads

The melamine glue ups are ok ? I would have cut the melamine top along the bottom of the vertical part of the fence to glue the horizontal part, and the same for each 45° block. And what use is the big space behind the fences ? Seems like a lot of wasted space to me. Do you plan to put something there in the future ?

I’m thinking of making a shorter modular miter saw table to match up to the modular bench top as shown in your other video (Modular Workbench for Beginners)

Dude, I need to know. Yes it's been 3 years since this video, but when you were using the miter saw to make cuts, what are those safety glasses you had on? They looked invisible. AWSOME! Well, I see you are still making videos and have both eyes still, so that's lucky. Good video.
