Great book for a beginner . ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.
I love that... _moiter saw station_ and the way it become. Also, thanks for sharing the mistakes. I did some like that two days ago when I build two work tables with a friend of mine. But we solved in a way 🙂
I really like this build you did and I really like that you put your tool chest in it like that. I am going to steal this idea for my radial arm saw table build. I am so strapped for space in my garage its not funny. Thanks for the idea! You gained a follower !
Hi John It's Rich here from west Wales many thanks to you for your inspiration for me to build 3 planters one work bench and an 6 ft lounger keep up the good work. Ps I am a Jameson drinker iechyd da.
John, this video was absolutely what I needed. I really appreciate that you included the mistake about the corners being switched because I know that would certainly happen to me. That was worth its weight in gold right there. Thanks so much!
Very effective and efficient. I have a tendency to overthink designs and end up shying away from making things, but watching you gives me confidence. I have a number of 4x2 lengths sitting in my shop waiting to be turned into a pillar drill bench...now I know how to do it, so thank you 😊
Looks absolutely great. I had a good chuckle when you said, "the shop is in a complete mess and I can hardly move in here." I'm in a 1 car garage and building a camper. Probably about a half meter around it to move about :D
That’s awesome bud. I’ve watched a bunch of these tutorials and this is one of my favorites. I’ll be building my own using a lot of what I’ve learnt from this vid. Big thumbs up!!!
I just found your page and I can't wait to get started on some of these projects, I'm new to woodworking by myself but spent many years watching my husband build things, I have a 400 sq ft workshop to get myself set up in and lots of power tools, I just need to get my workspace organized and this video is a great first step for me, thanks so much!
Brilliant! You make it look simple, and I think your techniques do make it simpler than most videos. I am a newby woodworker with a very small shed 8x6 to work in, so when I build this, it will be a baby version!
John - this is seriously brilliant. Such a simple design, yet so effective. I've been hunting for a good design to make and this is definitely it. Thanks for the great vid! 👍👏
Very nice! I especially appreciate your "no nonsense" approach with an eye towards cost effectiveness! I will definitely be watching for more videos from you, John and will catch up on existing ones.
sorry to be off topic but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Johnny Ricardo i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Hello from Virginia, USA. I make very similar work benches. I start with the 2x4 shelves and just make something similar to how’d you frame out a wall. Two long pieces lengthwise, short pieces going up and down. But instead of doing L bracket legs, I just use a single 2x4 on the ends and put in pieces to fit between the shelves. This acts as half lap joints. Very conservative on the amount of materials used, and very strong.
Outstanding!!! I just built my shop and am building it out right now. This is exactly what I am looking for, including the miter station. I would have to add some stops into the top and cross supports to hold an edge stop for cutting long pieces on my miter saw. LOVE IT!! Thanks for your videos!!
Awesome job sir, I'm building my tiny little woodshop in my garage around this idea. Thanks for step by step how you put it together, and for pointing out your mistakes. Really helpful.
Another great project john. The thing about these projects for yourself and these life quirks is there your own. For a sparkie you have a good grasp of the woodwork and thats coming from time served chippie. As an FYI. All timber these days here is PAO or planed all over. This reduces the 4x2 to the smaller dimensions but your right to measure your pieces to the project and take nothing for granted.
I seen your halfords box in the thumbnail and thought he must be from the UK and subscribed instantly. Trying to support as many UK youtubers as possible
Just discovered your channel and its rapidly becoming my favourite. No nonsense or flapping about, just getting on and getting things done. The only problem now is you've got a lot more space to fill. Can't be too long before we see a table saw in there... 😉
Great video, thank you! If you were adding casters would you also put the bottom frame level with the floor? Just thinking that would give you extra surface to screw casters into. Thanks again
It is interesting how things are referred to in different localities. Here in the states, we refer to the lumber as 2x4, but you refer to them as 4x2. BTW: I have ordered Bosch's Surgeon 12-in 8-Amp 18-volt Dual Bevel Cordless Miter Saw with Laser Guide.
This is an awesome build and I love how simple it is. I am trying to get your measurements and wanted to confirm what I heard in the video did you say the internal frame of the workbench is 320mm x 620mm. I have made my first side of the workbench and while I don't need to be exact, I am trying to place a 12" double bevel sliding miter on it and want to make sure there is enough clearance in the back of the bench.
Thanks for the video. I’ve built the same as your bench just customised measurements around a window in the garage. Might eventually close up the shelves underneath with drawers or cupboards. Used formply for the top. Gives a slippery surface for sliding wood across.
Good job! I like the way you built the main structure. As far as the mitre saw hood is concerned, I would lower it to reduce the open front area. The dust extraction would benefit from this.
Safety Glasses ?....... That's the thing that has been drummed into me in every shop environment I have been in all my life! Even at work if we don't have our safety glasses on we get wrote up big time.
Johnny Irish does it again! I know some electricians (I’m a pipefitter by day, gun builder by night) and you make them look foolish! Great job. I need a wood shop😔
ha ha thanks man, gun smiting is precision work! I used to do a lot of shooting don't get much time anymore, just sold my pistol and a couple of my rifles.
Something to add that you'll probably find helpful would be fence extensions on either side, to help you align longer parts and as a place to clamp stop blocks for long pieces. There'd likely be enough room in front that you could use the grinder there. Or you could make the fence removable by bolting it down to threaded inserts in the table top. Just a notion.
I thought about it but the only fences that matter for accuracy are the ones on the mitre saw and I wanted clear worktops, I might still put in t-tracks for stop blocks.
Watched this with my Dad so we could build a workbench in our garage. Can't understand a thing this guy says without subtitles. Still a great video!
😂🤣🤣😂🤣 Is my Irish accent that strong!! lol Enjoy building the bench with your Dad that's great.

Great ideas, easy to build and cost effective for homeowners or business craftsman as part of shop layout for a PAYOUT PROFFET...
Excellent video that helps me build my own. Thank you.
Glad it helped
Great build, and thanks for sharing! This helped me put together something similar in my garage.
Glad it helped!
I really like this build you did and I really like that you put your tool chest in it like that. I am going to steal this idea for my radial arm saw table build. I am so strapped for space in my garage its not funny. Thanks for the idea! You gained a follower !
This by far the easiest and best build of a miter work bench. I am definitely going to incorporate a majority of your ideas in my own build. Mahalos!
Glad it was helpful!

My pleasure Richard, great to hear the videos were helpful. Enjoy your Jameson!

Glad it was helpful!
"With a little brute force and ignorance"... my motto for my own workshop!
This one of the best benches I have seen!!!
Glad you like it
So simple yet so strong and organized, Great project
Glad you liked it
Nice and simple. The most important it is serve the purpose. And looks well organized space.
I just got a new miter saw for Christmas. I can’t wait to build this table for it.
Nice! Happy Christmas and enjoy the build.
John..best video..exactly what I wanted..very well done and easy to understand...awesome!
Glad you liked it!
I liked how he showed is little mistakes.
Verry onest. Good job bro.
thanks glad you enjoyed it
Hey John, I've just replicated your build in my garage. It went well! I only wish I had a floor as level as yours :). All the best.
Very effective and efficient. I have a tendency to overthink designs and end up shying away from making things, but watching you gives me confidence. I have a number of 4x2 lengths sitting in my shop waiting to be turned into a pillar drill bench...now I know how to do it, so thank you 😊

Cheers. You made that look so easy. Nice design by the way.
It is easy, give it a go.
@@JohnMcGrathManInShed I will. I have just bought a circular table saw.
👍
Really nice. Going to build this. - Thank you much for the video!
i wish my workshop was as big as yours id be able to do the same sort of things, keep up the good work
Looks absolutely great.
I had a good chuckle when you said, "the shop is in a complete mess and I can hardly move in here."

I love the simplicity of this. No faffing around, just get the job done. Excellent.
Glad you liked it!

I'm definitely going to upgrade my work bench where I have my mitre saw! Thanks for the inspiration!
Very clean sharp looking work station.
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much John.
Great job, sir!
Glad you liked it!
Great use of available space and certainly economical! Best of both worlds, eh??
Awesome MtrSaw….station…hell yeah !
Your build was exactly what I was looking for. Modeled a recent basement project on this video. Thanks!
Glad I could help!

Also, just to add another youtuber "I like to make stuff" has a great concept for more saw station cowl and tool storage
Cheers Dave
I loveeeee that you show the slight errors that you made .. I do the “exact measurement” error many times .. love that you’re human too .. lol
Nice workbench simply and easy, thanks i just did the same workbench as you did but i change couple things for looks better 😋
Nicely done

10m x 6m workshop soon.
Great job John, so well done!!!

No problem 👍
Really nice build mate, my congrats!
Thanks!
Fabulous job 🇨🇦
Smashing job John. Maybe add a t track, stop block and adhesive mounted tape measure - makes repeated cuts so easy.
Thanks John, t track is on the list.
Hi John great video thank you for showing the build. Can you do a video on your dust extraction system that would be great!
I have a couple of videos on it if you check through my uploads.
I really like this 🙋🏻♂️ it’s look really cool

John McGrath hey life happens. I shoot a lot less too. Saves money on ammo 👈🏼that’s glass is half full haha
Nice job!
Thank you! Cheers!
How do you accurately measure the drop needed for the mitre saw shelf?
Did you ever add T track to the bench tops for stops? And would you do anything different design wise now that you’ve had it in use for awhile?
Something to add that you'll probably find helpful would be fence extensions on either side, to help you align longer parts and as a place to clamp stop blocks for long pieces. There'd likely be enough room in front that you could use the grinder there. Or you could make the fence removable by bolting it down to threaded inserts in the table top.

Thats a really great job, those stands take a lot of room up. I have the dewalt one, great for site work awful for the workshop
Thanks 👍
