I think they skipped air suspension for durability, it’s one of the most common and expensive breakdowns in luxury cars. There’s few feelings worse than coming out to a “beached” Mercedes or Range Rover in the morning...
I had 2 BMW 7 series, 3 S class and 2 GL plus a couples of 5 series, oh almost forgot that I am 63. I just got a G90 ultimate. Besides lack of massage chairs, panoramic roof and manual moon roof cover, this vehicle is actually very nice. Performance and luxury accessories are great. Dashboard layout is slightly antiquated. Otherwise it is a great powerful vehicle. Certainly save me quite a few dollars on three years of expenses including maintenance. Who knows, may stay with this brand for good.
I haven’t driven the Lexus but I would definitely entertain the Genesis. I don’t believe like you said that the G90 competes evenly with the Germans. They’re all more performance oriented dynamically while the G90 seems to be going the luxury focused route. I’m also value minded. I don’t fee like the German luxury vehicles are value buys. They’re emotional buys. You’re essentially paying the car company to make you feel better. I think I can manage that better on my own.
If you go onto Genesis forums, you quickly find out that they have not got the customer service down yet. Many owners are dissatisfied. People who are buying these vehicles expect to be treated well and to not have issues. It seems like a lot of folks can't wait to get out of their leases. As there are not many Genesis dealers, most people will service their vehicles at a Hyundai dealership. And be treated like Hyundai owners. And it's just not working out. And Genesis is in no hurry to fix customer issues.
@@김동준-t9p Why? Guess you think the Mercedes is a better car. It is not. have owned many MBs. Every one has been plagued with problems. Friend just bought new S560. Been in for service 1.5 weeks out of first 6. Couldn't even inflate the tires correctly upon delivery.

Great review Alex. I am not rich lol so I think this is more in line with the Volvo S90 T8 in terms of price and features. How do you think they compare to each other?
Re: Wheels - reminds me of a modern interpretation of the "Road Wheels" that used to be popular on giant American Luxury sedans in the 60s and 70s. A solid disk wheel with logo in center.
It's impressive what Genesis is offering. I think it beats the others hand down if you consider value or don't care as much on brand recognition. I love the new styling direction that kind of has a Bentley vibe or presence.
I think value and luxury are opposites but the ground that separates them is a lot narrower in this case of the LS or G90 pick. I would literally have to drive both and then think for awhile to pick between the two cars, I think it’s that close
They gave the G90 amber taillight turn signals but went out of their way to give the GV80 red taillight turn signals? RIP logic in favor of "styling" choices.
Gorgeous interior and exterior reliability is a 10! Traditional spring set up is the way to go, Genesis know what it's doing regarding reliability, Mercedes benz S-Class is a nightmare out of Warranty especially the air suspension that's why most if the older ones are sitting on the ground or in the junk yard. Unless you are a car enthusiasts or know someone that specializes in german vehicles, as soon as that vehicle has issues the average person takes it to the dealer they are going to run away from the service bill, when something like especially the air suspension starts having problems raising the vehicle.
With such a small price difference between the two trims, why does Genesis bother selling the "base" trim at all? $3,000 would hardly matter to luxury car shoppers, wouldn't it? Especially when the top trim has such a great value and much more affordable than any of the comparably-equipped competitors.
American Roads...I don't know, but I'd guess that since they have to produce both versions anyway ( for overseas markets), it costs them nothing to at least offer them to US customers.
They need to add a panoramic sunroof and massage seats to the G90 ASAP. It's extremely strange to me that those are both features that are offered in the smaller G80 but not the flagship G90. But I guess that's also because the G90 is just a refresh while the G80 is all new.
German cars are really nice but wayyyyyy to expensive when new and they just cost to much to maintain when you buy a used one, these G90s for the price and all that you get, really seems like the more common sense buy in my opinion, great review my man....I used to be a "BADGE" person, not anymore,as I'm getting older I have to be a lot SMARTER and WISER with my money and truly UNDERSTAND what really makes good COMMON SENSE for the future....
Rear design and headlight are classy. I could live with the wheels but that big grill is a deal breaker. A narrow wide grill would complement the rear and headlights. Side note: this may be a much better deal than competition in this class but for this much dough, I would wait and get a Rivian. Probably not as nice on the tush but grin factor must be off the charts.
Hey MB, BMW, Audi and Lexus take note. This is as good as your stuff for a lot less money! Like the old Packard ads used to say "ask a man who owns one". Well I'm "a man that owns one" and am on my second G90 and I didn't even look at anything else when I replaced my 2017 G90 5.0 AWD with my new 2020 G90 5.0 AWD. Great cars at a great price. If you can live without the "prestige" of a MB, BMW or Audi do yourself a favor and take one for a test drive before you buy anything else.
If Hyundai/Kia stay this consistent over the next 5 to 7 years a lot of companies going to see sales loss they are completely killing the auto industry right now
I think that the grill is a little overwhelming. I am not sure why designers are putting larger and larger grills on their vehicles. I think that the Genesis vehicles (all models) are very well made and excellent in their equipment levels. In Australia we have number plates on both front and rear so at least, the grill size is broken up by the placement of the plate.
The grille looks bigger in videos. I was at the dealer getting my G70 serviced, I checked out the new G90. The grille is a perfect size for this vehicle. It's not too big. You gotta see it in person to see what I mean. It looks great!
I wouldn't compare G90 to LS400 as Lexus LS400 wasn't just chipper than it's competitors it also offered better engineering, more modern and advanced power train, that had much bigger development budgets and more advanced manufacturing process. By the way, LS500 isn't any different as it's 3.4 TT V6 V35A-FTS is supervisor to any turbo 6 engines that competitors offers and Aisin 10 speed is the best on the market too.
Why does Consumer Reports rate the LS500 52 out of 100 and last place in the segment? The new LS is not like the old LS as everyone else has left Lexus in the dust!
@@normt430 Because it's a brand new car and it had few recalls (mostly regarding cvt on the hybrid), just like LS460 did in 2006-2007, because it also was a revolutionary car, but LS460 can easily live to see 300+k miles on it's clock unlike it's competition. Also they include categories like infotainment in their reitings, that aren't important to the reliability aspect and they typically take their quizzes, when cars are basically brand new (like 1 or 2 mo old) and can't have any real issues anyways . But all in all, it's V35A-FTS (tt V6) and 10 speed Aisin have proven to be a lot more trouble free than the competition, hybrid powertrain may be a little worse though. Also, 8AR-FTS (Lexus 200t, 2.0 turbo engine) had proven to be extremely reliable on mileages well over 100k (except for turbo valve problems, on early versions, that had been resolved after a recall). And don't forget that Toyota will be using this V35A engine for a whole bunch of products and they had a pretty big budget for it's development. LS500 has only one real problem - runflat tires on air or even conventional suspension, where only magnetic one can pull them off. As time will g, you'll see that it's a quality machine, just like all of it's predecessors.
I have a 2018 G90 5.0 ultimate and love it. My lease is up soon, but I am more leaning on keeping my 2018 vs the updated model- interior not really different sans the real wood, I like the rear end of the '18 better, but the front of the '20 better. I'm averaging 21+mpg combined over 37k miles, so that's not an aberration.
Great review Alex! Very thorough and professional work with character. I love this car. Has so much presence, man. Love the ostentatious exterior-looks special and expensive, very masculine, a bit baroque. Kind of like an awesome Grandfather. I'd call him Pop. :) JV Johnny

If I want a luxury car I would buy a lexus, I tend to keep cars for 7-9 years with putting around 170k-180k miles . Lexus got too comfortable in most of their line up I hope genesis proves its reliability long term.
That might not be until 2023 I'm afraid. It was released in MY2016 in South Korea and MY2017 for everywhere else. For MY2020, there was this refresh. So 2023 might be the most likely. Same with the G80 - it was released in MY2015 and they refreshed for MY2021. So 2 years behind the G80.
@@charlesdr1981 I don't think you've been in this new G90. Design wise, that's up to individual tastes. But there's nothing more premium in the LS. Not that I could find, anyway. Seats maybe?

value and luxury can be on the same side of the coin.. i have been around a few people with a fair bit of coin and they buy what they like however if its discounted they'll take that discount too 😅.. I cannot take any luxury car seriously that doesn't have the same adjustments for the seats on the driver and passenger side, I find it unacceptable in a Toyota corolla
I think the G90 looks much better than the G80. The roofline is much more elegant and shaped like a proper luxury car. I do still prefer the way the Lexus LS looks though. The spindle grill isn’t great on many of their vehicles, mainly the GX and LX; but the LS wears it very well. The Mercedes S class is still my favorite though for style. It’s very stately and elegant. I like bold, but simple is sometimes better
When speaking about the price of a new Genesis G90, it is often overlooked that the price of the G90 in South Korea when translated into US dollars is actually $100,000! It would appear that the American market is getting a very big discount from the G90 price in other countries. Could somebody explain to me how this price differential is possible. Does Hyundai feel that it must penetrate the US market for this car to be a success.
im not into big luxury vehicles and prefer modern suv's. as far as branding goes its not important. its all about who makes what you like best. for some brand names are very important and will only buy a Mercedes, Maserati etc... 2 things in the news made me rethink about brands a long time ago. once when Mel Gibson was pulled over by law enforcement and he had his incident, he was in his Lexus LS. Michael Bloomberg servant? worker went to get his Lexus LS from the garage and decided to skip town and go to NJ where she was later arrested for auto theft. not like they can't afford to drive anything they want. i would most likely pick the 7 series from this group because i am very familiar with that brand and i would defiantly cross shop it against the genesis and other competition.
The down fall for the Lexus and Acura brands is pricing. They are getting too expensive for what they are. They should go back to their roots or we will see Acura and Lexus gone.
No Eyes...Totally agree. Acura doesn't even try to compete with real luxury cars. And most Lexus cars are FWD now as well. Feels more like "Toyota Prime" rather than a real luxury car. Although, I think the LS and LC are exceptions. They're very nice!
The rear seat in the Continental is cramped? O.o It has more leg room than the G90, if you believe the specs. It's the rear-seat headroom that gets the Continental, being about 2 inches less than the G90.
No offense to luxury car drivers, but if they had the active safety features, they'd either have to disable them or there would be alarms going off left and right the way some of them drive.

Id take this over the S class. Not a fan of the wheels on your tester, I hope they offer another wheel option.
Work harder and go for s class
I've read that the wheel design helps cut down on tire noise 🤷🏽♂️
@@김동준-t9p Why? Guess you think the Mercedes is a better car. It is not. have owned many MBs. Every one has been plagued with problems. Friend just bought new S560. Been in for service 1.5 weeks out of first 6. Couldn't even inflate the tires correctly upon delivery.
I'll keep my CT6!
@@normt430 From all these videos I've watched, the CT6 is a better drivers car. If you are being driven, the G90 is more comfortable. So if I was buying one to drive, yeah, I'd probably choose the CT6.
Granted, I've never driven either of them, but just basing my opinion off of watching tons of these car reviews.
Yes, one 5.0 V8 naturally aspirated engine to go please
No more in the G80 - the G90 is a 'riders' car not a drivers car.
The pricing page (26:00 min) shows the picture of the old G90!
I love the wheels and the distinctive grill.
This is what a new Cadillac Fleetwood SHOULD BE..... and a Lincoln Town Car.

This will be my very first car to buy it Alex.
I think value and luxury are opposites but the ground that separates them is a lot narrower in this case of the LS or G90 pick. I would literally have to drive both and then think for awhile to pick between the two cars, I think it’s that close
I have a Genesis GV80 & an LS500. I love both grills.
They gave the G90 amber taillight turn signals but went out of their way to give the GV80 red taillight turn signals? RIP logic in favor of "styling" choices.
What?
Gorgeous interior and exterior reliability is a 10! Traditional spring set up is the way to go, Genesis know what it's doing regarding reliability, Mercedes benz S-Class is a nightmare out of Warranty especially the air suspension that's why most if the older ones are sitting on the ground or in the junk yard. Unless you are a car enthusiasts or know someone that specializes in german vehicles, as soon as that vehicle has issues the average person takes it to the dealer they are going to run away from the service bill, when something like especially the air suspension starts having problems raising the vehicle.
I have a Lexus LS500 and I think this Genesis is a very fine car.
The rims are awesome... I love the new.. old look...
Alex pls review the new GMC Terrain... Would love to see it so would @Dwayne Woodard
Larry Laub yesssss I need this to happen
Lexus what Lexus? I thought Lexus was dead…
If Hyundai/Kia stay this consistent over the next 5 to 7 years a lot of companies going to see sales loss they are completely killing the auto industry right now
Lmfao analyst much ?
@@김동준-t9p lol just speaking facts
I think that the grill is a little overwhelming. I am not sure why designers are putting larger and larger grills on their vehicles. I think that the Genesis vehicles (all models) are very well made and excellent in their equipment levels. In Australia we have number plates on both front and rear so at least, the grill size is broken up by the placement of the plate.
Gordon...See it person. It's not as big as it seems in pics. Looks really good!
@@T800-b2m or it is just not liked for $80-100K. Check Everyday Driver review of the LS500h. It is not good at all.

Amazing car overall
I've waited a long time for this review
I have a 2018 G90 5.0 ultimate and love it. My lease is up soon, but I am more leaning on keeping my 2018 vs the updated model- interior not really different sans the real wood, I like the rear end of the '18 better, but the front of the '20 better. I'm averaging 21+mpg combined over 37k miles, so that's not an aberration.
G90 look is cool but the new G80 is perfection.

G90 only makes sense with the V8 now that the all new G80 is out.
Huge mistake making them all turbo, hope the techs have fun replacing them!

@@cameronknowles6267 Yes, like the one in my 2012 w/333HP, I'm sure they could tune that to 350-360HP coming issues solved. But, unfortunately 'Turbo' has become a checkbox in a lot of your average consumers checklist.
I'm drooling all over the g90... Value is good for those who are self built successful people transitioning towards top luxury cars.
If I want a luxury car I would buy a lexus, I tend to keep cars for 7-9 years with putting around 170k-180k miles .
Lexus got too comfortable in most of their line up I hope genesis proves its reliability long term.
Genesis has been proving their reliability since 2009, so yeah their reliable
Yeah they’re reliable, but it’s still a machine at the end of the day. You’re going to pay for something to repair in any kind of vehicle

26:05 Aren't you showing the old G90 in the background?
Have a 2 year old G90. Would by another after the dash catches up to the 2021 G80.
I think the Genesis has a better interior than the LS
Lexus feels more premium ,but Genesis seems much more specious in the back.

value and luxury can be on the same side of the coin.. i have been around a few people with a fair bit of coin and they buy what they like however if its discounted they'll take that discount too 😅.. For me a Fully load G90 vs a base BMW 7 series basically used a strip down version.. i would go with the G90
The G90 in Ultimate trim would make an excellent "car service" vehicle or budget limousine, especially with the demise of the Lincoln Continental.
i wonder why they took out the b-pillar vents for the rear passengers

Power reclining back seats but the front passenger seat is cutting costs for not having the same controls as the driver seat. Yeah that makes sense.
Great review, not availableb in Europe ☹
Surely a Lease of only 36k over 3 years is not enough in the US ?
Would this happen to be the G80 that was involved in a deer accident?
im not into big luxury vehicles and prefer modern suv's. as far as branding goes its not important. its all about who makes what you like best. for some brand names are very important and will only buy a Mercedes, Maserati etc...
I really like the grill on the front but the four way headlights and wheels don't match.
Purchase price is one thing, what is resale for each?
The rear seat in the Continental is cramped? O.o It has more leg room than the G90, if you believe the specs. It's the rear-seat headroom that gets the Continental, being about 2 inches less than the G90.
what's with the wheels? Looking like my grandma's crochet
Fog makes everything better.
No offense to luxury car drivers, but if they had the active safety features, they'd either have to disable them or there would be alarms going off left and right the way some of them drive.
