    Great video! Any chance you could post the lengths of pipe needed for the various weights you mentioned? Thanks!

    A quick thought take a corner file and put in a couple of notches opposite to each other which will hold your eye shaft centered.

      Yaa 100% man. I should have just drilled a hole through the pipe same size as my sterl dowel before i even cut them to length so i had that perfect divot to hold it in place. Couldn't agree more man👊
      Nxt time i mess with them ill do that.
      Thanks for checking out the channel & for the advice👊

    I use old copper pipe or galvanized pipe , then just leave the lead in the pipe , no need to coat the lead after

    As others have posted great video it would be helpful to get the pipe lengths as I would love to make a few.

    How many inches is a that pipe in the video and how many pounds does it come out to be? I know you mentioned 10 pounds for the large one but just wanted to make sure on the length of the pipe, thanks!!!!

    Wow, surprised how easy it fell out of pipe. I used thin walled and it didn't come out. That thick walled is the trick.

      Ya exspands more problebly use a lil oil also the 3 in 1 seems to work well but im sure any oil would do. Also no dents dings & file/smooth off the cut ends you should be stylin my friend. Thanks for checking out the channel👊🙏

      Made 2 leads today based on your video. Could not pretty up the top like yours. Making sure very vertical is important like you putting a level on it. I eye balled it and just off plumb. Must be vertical and plumb. I use Stainless bike spokes for eye.

    Where do you get your lead?

    How do you determine how long the pipe is to determine how many pounds the weight is?

    • @JustinD.53
      @JustinD.53 Рік тому +2

      Lead weighs .41lbs a cubic inch. So how many lbs you want divided by that is how many cubic inches you need. If you know what diameter you want you can calculate length.

    Is your pipe tapered to get loose after cooling of or when it cools down it do get small in diameter enough to come out of the pipe..

      Straight, undented ,clean ,thick wall aluminum pipe. Like you say the lead exspands when hot then contracts just enough to fall right out.
      Oil the inside up and quench it in water quickly like i show on the vid. That quenching makes your lead a lil harder also.
      If you have any questions just hollar.
      Make you some up👊🙌🙌

      @Betterthanbought. talk me some about the weight you use to fish in very deep water and what kind of fish do you fish at most deep waters...have video's ot it ?

    • @Betterthanbought.
      @Betterthanbought.  Рік тому

      Weight will vary depending on the current, water depth your fishing & even your line thickness.
      Say your fishing in 500-600 feet with 2 knotts current 5lbs should be about right.
      Now get out into the Gulfstream in 3-4 knotts of current and say your dropping 1500-2000' for swordfish your going to need 10-12 maybe even 15 lbs to hold bottom in that situation without it scoping out & being 1/4 mile away from the boat. You don't need to be exzactly vertical with your line but kerp it close to it without too much excess weight. Takes lil figuring out/testing at 1st.
      Use a good braided line for this type of fishing its very thin & cuts the water much better. Wont scope out nearly as much as mono does meaning you can use less weight.
      When you drop let it hit bottom then bring it up like 20' & drop it again then lift into the zone you prefer/want to fish from there species will dictate where you run your bait height wise. Now just repeat that every 10-15 mins as you drift to make sure your still in your zone/depth range as bottom contour will be constantly changing most times.
      Hopefully that's the info your after my friend👊 its a basic idea but should get ya going.

    Where do you find aluminum pipe

    • @Betterthanbought.
      @Betterthanbought.  4 місяці тому

      That was an old boat trailer guide post i had laying around. But any metal/fabrication place heck maybe Lowes or HD. You just want thick wall aluminum pipe with no dents or bends. Cut then deburr the ends really well slightly chamfer them actually or the leads wont drop out easily. And be careful.
      Thanks for stopping by. Go make you some up👊🙌🙌

    Length of pipe PLEASE !!!!! Thank you !!!!

    • @Betterthanbought.
      @Betterthanbought.  Рік тому +5

      Would have to measure them to be sure but wana say 14" was about 10lbs & just minus 2" to drop 2lbs roughly. What you run into is different pipe wall thicknesses & slightly different inside diameters depending on brand make giving exzact info tricky.
      Start with a 14" length and then tune it from there that way you'll be dead on. If 14" gives you 8.5lbs cut it off for your 8lb👍 Also the weight of lead varies a good bit depending on what percentage of other metals are incorporated in it. Kinda surprised me actually.
      Hope that helps get ya pointed in the right direction. Get good clean straight aluminum pipe with no dents scratches or gouges thats important.
      Make you some🙌🙌

    Looks like a lot of work

    • @Betterthanbought.
      @Betterthanbought.  Рік тому

      Work? Nah this isn't work or hard. Its extremely easy to do & without filming its literally 2-3 mins a lead to make them up when not explaining every detail & trying to keep ppl from burning their faces or toes off🤷‍♂️😅.
      Its not bad at all just use caution. Making a set yourself would save you about 200 bucks & take 30 mins. That's good pay/savings imo. Buys alot of fuel👍👍
