This couldn’t be more accurate. As someone who suffered from this, every point made in this video lands. Emotional instability. Body shaped by behavior. Lack of willpower, self-esteem, comradery and competitiveness. Women instantly picking up on this. My journey out of this is what led me to Damo and qi gong. It’s empowering to know that the cultivation of these Arts is a direct line away from this nasty affliction.
Thanks Damo. Good to be direct on the matter, especially for cultivators. As someone who has worked with porn addiction as a mental health clinician for many years I can certainly confirm that it is widespread and harmful on many levels and often hard to treat since society seems to condone it. Just a note that a “cuckold” is a man who’s wife is unfaithful (or in a sexual fetish, a man who likes to watch his wife be unfaithful). Perhaps it makes more sense to use the term “voyeur” to describe someone who watches porn?(roughly 90% of men and 60% of women) 🤷♂️
Like any addiction it feels good at first but eventually becomes enslavement. Breaking it feels worse than the addiction itself for a long time. Quite the conundrum.
To anyone setting up internet in a home or monastery or school or town: you can block porn and ads before they get to people's devices. Of course people can work around that, but might as well make it inconvenient to access!
Fucking hilariously awesome talk Damo! Thanks so much for bluntly addressing the Jing slingin kidney sprayers 🤣🤣🤣 It was also very thought provoking to consider the dynamics of healthy competitiveness! 🙏 And Yes yes yes!!!! I would love to hear Cindy on the podcast!!! 🙏 💛☀️💛
Thank for this. I train external martial arts and can tell you that, even with the guys in their 20s (I'm 45), there is still a spirit of comradery and competition. Then again, this is boxing, Muay Thai and BJJ so it's a self selecting group.
We live in a society with instant gratification for food, mood, sex, entertainment etc. Is it any surprise that so much in life today has lost its value when there is no longer a need to earn anything through ones own effort
Damo, I would like to ask, how competitiveness dissapeared for you, or when should this disappear naturally? When does it dissapear mainly when meditation practise also comes in the picture? I have contemplated about this some before, I was a competitive athlete for decades yet interested in meditation, how should it all have been handled better? Like push competitions for a certain age and it is advised to step away from that and stress meditation practise more? Thank you, Adam from Hungary. The podcast once again is amazing amount of food for thought, important issue lately.
Interesting topic Damo san. I heard from another qigong master that evertime you choke the chicken and spill the seed you lose about 7 days worth of "Neidan work" and it takes another 7 days to recover to back to that prior state. What about for someone who does not spill the seed but just looks and loses essence via losing 'precum' fluid, how many days would that take one back and is it as serious as losing the ejaculatory fluids?

Anytime I meet someone better than me at something I get excited because they show me what’s possible to achieve and I don’t want to stagnate. It’s actually one of the best thing. And now I see men adopting this feminine style of competition so from their experience they think it’s the same for men, ITS NOT THE SAME. This is very bad!
Hello, Damo! I just want to ask something: Since you are advocating not spilling the jing, what can you advise somebody who has decided to not spill the jing at all (willingly) anymore? Would you mind making a podcast about that? Any advice? Are there exercises we can perform in order to prevent stagnation or simply to support ourselves in this endeavor?
That is why there is Qigong Neigong & Neidan systems there not spilling the seed only won't work healthy level of jing activation will arise during exercise mental activity any internal work etc
Once one has depleted one's jing in the manner you describe, is it possible to come back from that, or has one irreversibly squandered one's finite stores of it; doomed to live the rest of one's life with depleted kidney energy? Asking for a friend, obvs
I’m not a Qigong master, but I’m actually stronger than before I had the addiction. It took me 3 years. Part of breaking it involved directing the energy I had been wasting into healthier activities. Struggling with the mental & spiritual components greatly strengthened my willpower in general. So I can’t speak to replenishing the jing etc but overall if you really kick it and understand internally & spiritually why you no longer will do it, - Just by “alchemical,y” resolving the conflict at a higher level you will be stronger than before, even if not everything lost is regained in the same way. My primary advice would be not to give up. Even if you backslide don’t give up. Analyze why it happened and just keep going. Resolve to make even the smallest improvement. No one else can really tell you what it means to resolve the conflict for yourself because we are all different. It is a process of self discovery. Hope this helps.
Start eating garlic and ginger they are potent in Jing and practice celibacy for about 3 months a lower you sexual activity and start a path on internal alchemy and do qi gong for healing if your body is not too destroyed you should be able to recover
I went through a redpill phase in my early 20s. What a horrible outlook it ended up being. You create misery for everyone around you and reap all of it for yourself in the end.
I agree, and in my opinion competitiom should be opened to women as well. Instead of passive aggressive behaviour, we should be able to openly confront in a competition and shut down all the cowards lazy mouths. More transparency and more being able to lose. As a woman i can say that it's not possible to compete with a woman without creating permanent damage to the relationship. In society women still can't be natural.
I'm sure the stimulant effect of coffee is something to take into consideration when practicing internal arts, but outside of that it has a lot of beneficial factors to consider through some research. It also has tannins in it, which are an antinutrient that blocks the absorption of iron. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your diet and health status. If you consume lots of iron rich or iron fortified foods, then tannins can prevent unbound iron. But other people have an iron shortage and then it's best to avoid coffee or other things that contain tannins like tea. Carbs on the other hand shouldn't cause you any issues if you don't have any vitamin deficiencies (several B vitamins are especially important for carb metabolism) and aren't consuming excess fat / don't have excess fatty acids in the blood. Carbs have a bad reputation these days, but in general they are the best fuel for the body if you're fairly healthy and don't consume too many fats (research the Randall cycle for more information). I would imagine this is fairly consistent with internal arts, a practitioner likely does not want to be fueling themselves from fat or by turning protein into glucose through gluconeogenesis when they could just be consuming carbs through fruit or well cooked grains and starches.
Some notes on coffee that I saved from a knowledgeable acupuncturists from within LNG. From a Chinese medicine perspective, coffee is considered to be Bitter and Pungent, and warming in nature. It is thought to be beneficial by regulating the Heart Fire due to its ability to drain Fire (with its Bitter flavour) and promote circulation (with its Pungent flavour). However, this of course is if taken in moderation. The coffee bean is in fact a very potent substance, and very little is needed before it becomes detrimental to the body, and like with everything, it has both its positives and negatives - in fact, when roasted and brewed it takes on even stronger properties. The main action of coffee is that it strongly stimulates the flow of Qi and stimulates it so much so that it can often feel like a Qi tonic (which is why people may drink it to get more energy). However, it is not tonifying in the slightest, and only draws upon what energy reserves you already have that are often stored within the Kidneys. Although coffee strongly stimulates the flow of Qj, which is helpful for any type of stagnation, unfortunately it does not regulate its flow. This is like the herb Chai Hu (for those of you who understand Chinese herbal medicine). Due to the fact that it stimulates the flow of Qi so strongly, yet does not regulate it, the stimulation of flow can actually damage the Liver Yin as the movement is too strong. When talking about the herb Chai Hu, this is why it is often used alongside certain other herbs, such as Bai Shao, which helps to negate these side effects. When the Liver Yin becomes damaged it creates Heat, which leads to two perpetuating issues. Firstly, the Heat from the Liver rises to agitate the Heart Fires - essentially throwing more Wood onto the Fire. Secondly, when the Liver Yin is damaged, it draws upon the Kidney Yin for support. This causes the Kidney Yin to deplete, the Qi to rise (again agitating the Heart), and results in a lack of Kidney Yin to restrain the Heart Fire. Once this happens, palpitations may begin to occur when drinking coffee, lower back pain can arise, and Liver type tinnitus can occur. It should be noted that decaf coffee is not an answer to this either, as it is the coffee bean that holds these properties, and not the caffeine itself. Also, certain methods of decaffeination are damaging in their own ways!
As someone non-binary who grew up with boys, I do find your take very interesting. I appreciate that the points you bring up are nuanced and not the sort of circlejerk that this topic can sometimes bring up in people. I grew up in Silicon Valley and am currently a software engineer. I spent all of my childhood on the computer, and have dated both Gen Z and Millennial men. Many of the points that you bring up are observations I've found to be true, though maybe with a different angle. I (a Zillennial) generally find myself more attracted to people who are less pulled in by the many scattered forces of the internet that try to influence people to be a certain way. To be completely frank, all the partners I've had who watched porn regularly were generally crap at sex. And I get what you mean by you can "feel" the lack of essence or grounding. It's actually kind of pitiful, to be honest, because this is clearly not something that's their fault, but the fault of society and parenting. The ones who are more physically attuned (as they do exist; after all, new world records in athletics are broken every year) do have more of this groundedness, but in general it seems that it's compartmentalized to certain people and certain situations rather than as a way of living amongst a society. I think it's worth mentioning that the inclination toward collaboration and non-confrontation could be products of large cultural shifts that have happened geopolitically. After the West experienced two world wars and a cold war (which can be debated to be ongoing), I imagine the possibility of mutually assured destruction by nuclear bombing shaped the way people think about treating people they consider "enemies." Additionally, the Gen Z men I have dated are generally far, FAR better at respecting boundaries and consent than any other generation of man I've dated. There's nothing to explain to them because it's very obvious to them. They also generally don't get "weird" or protective about their masculinity because it's not part of their culture to. Relational problems like abuse and sexual assault are much more well-known amongst people--someone can post about your shitty behavior very easily, and society is much more likely to take the woman's side now. As a result, I think less extreme relational abuse occurs as it's less normalized. So I think there are some positives to point out here as well.
