  • Utilising Taylor's beloved Grand Pacific body shape, the American Dream series is a modern take on the classic round-shoulder dreadnought that retains the powerful yet warm sound of a dreadnought but with more clarity and note-definition, particularly in the low-end. The American Dream series is Taylor's entry-point for those looking for an American-made, all-solid wood acoustic guitar. Nick Jennison reviews the Taylor American Dream AD17. Sounds like it's not just the sound of the guitar, but some added reverb or electronic alteration to the sound. I would like to hear it without any effects.

    Hi,
the site doesn't work. The video lessons and teh tech sessions doesn't start, becuase the embedded video player "is loading..." but nothing happens.
Moreover, in the last issue the dowlad section for PDF and backing tracks is missing.
    Why all this problems?

Excellent presentation, overview and insights into this beautiful guitar. I played one today in a store and fell in love. Keep up the great work, and don’t pay any mind to the 1-2 haters that just want kick over other peoples sandcastles (or worse, turn this into something political…somehow). The fact is, it’s a fantastic guitar on its own, and even better when professionally recorded the way you’ve done. It’s strange how some people that have nothing but hate for these things even end up watching videos in the first place. Did they misspell “Martin” while you-tubing, and by the will of the unholy, end up here as punishment for their sins? The plot thickens! Thanks again - liked and subscribed, cheers.

This is not an honest review, the sound has Been enhanced to make the guitar sound better than it is - I played this guitar live it lacks projection and personality imo it sucks - as usual these online reviews never give pros on cons of the instrument seem to be just mouthpieces for the manufacturers.

    • @GuitarInteractive
      @GuitarInteractive  3 роки тому +2

If by enhanced, you mean professionally set-up and recorded then you are right. Please keep in mind that guitars can sound different in different player's hands.

@@GuitarInteractive Yes, and of course we know this to be true for any instrument or tool....you could give me the best set of clubsbin the world and i would not play a green as well as tiger woods with the cheapest walmart set. That being said, we the consumer want to hear the "raw" sound. Hearing the raw sound with and w/out amp we can then honestly judge for ourselves, if this is the right sound/guitar for our personal styles and preferences.

@@GuitarInteractive I think by enhanced Brian means that there is quite a bit of reverb on the recording. And when he says "mouthpieces for the manufacturers" I understand where he's coming from. A lot of folks get paid for reviews and even if they don't, want to appear brand-friendly. So, I think it's fairly self-evident that many online reviewers don't talk about anything they don't like, they just highlight all of the features and the "review" ends up sounding like a product-listing on a retailers website.

I'm sure its a fine instrument but aesthetically and personally I would never purchase a guitar painted black. Black finishes hide dirt, grime, finger prints. And no pick guard? Oh wait, maybe there is one . I saw a reflection so maybe it does. I hate the word "sustainable" Like I'm supposed to be all "Ooo, Taylor is environmentally conscious and cognizant of "Gullible warming"". Leave the left wing political bs OUT of it would ya? Don't get me wrong. I'm not for cutting down rain forests, I'm just sick of left wing politics bleeding into EVERYTHING.
Back and sides made out of "obencore" what the heck is that? I will NEVER buy a black guitar. They're singularly unattractive IMHO.
Guitars are like beautiful women. They should attract the eye not fade into the background.

I am 64 years old, have been playing guitar for 50+ years, have been a registered Republican since I was old enough to vote, and I got A’s in science, (so can recognize that climate change is undeniable). Unlike you, I see absolutely nothing wrong with every single person doing everything they can to reduce their carbon footprint. I have reused the same plastic bag to bring my lunch to work for 3 months now... I have slowed my freeway speed from 75 to 70 on my commute, and the result is a 10% increase in gas mileage. Even though it is winter, I sleep in long johns, and under 4 blankets, instead of turning on the heater. I have two 30ish daughters, and a 4 year old granddaughter. I want them to have a beautiful world to live in, and for my granddaughter to enjoy guitars as much as I have. What is so wrong with Urban Ash, and farmed eucalyptus?
BTW, the back and sides are made of “ovankol”, an excellent tone wood, very similar to rosewood, but (sorry), sustainable, and has a little more midrange... As you may know, rosewood is now protected. I have a Takamine P4DC with Ovangkol back and sides, and it sounds great.

@@jed1166 BLAH BLAH BLAH, You make the same mistake every liberal nut job makes. If its not A it must be B. Let's review and I quote from my previous post "Don't get me wrong. I'm not for cutting down rain forests".Did I criticize his choice of lumber? No. I dislike the way the left tries to politicize EVERYTHING, from religion to language, from pothole to pronouns, from gasoline to guitars. I'm even more conservative than you are when it comes to my carbon footprint. For one thing I don't commute, at all. My thermostat is set at 65° or less all the time. I have plastic shopping bags that have been in the trunk of my tiny grocery getter for so long they are starting to decompose.
I own a Martin, several Fenders, a Stella 12 string electric acoustic, two Schecters several Yamahas, my original Silvertone I bought for a hundred buck back in 1969, and my favorite electric is a Dean Vendetta made out of Paulownia wood. I'm sure this AD 17 is a fine guitar. Taylor doesn't build crap.
Climate change? Tell me oh wise one. What is "the plan" to "fix "the climate"?
The left is big on symbolism. They are not so enthusiastic about tangible, quantifiable results. For example, just ask them how they plan to measure their results on the effect taxing carbon emissions will have on the environment. They look at you like a deer in your headlights and start muttering their favorite buzzwords, "mumble sustainability" "mumble mumble eco-friendly" "mutter mumble" "2°" by 2030 or 2040 or is it 2050"
Who knows? The truth is they have no accurate way to measure their success or (inevitable) failure to affect the climate. There is none. There is not even a current effective quantifiable way to measure the affect, if there is any, mankind is having on the climate. There are only theories and computer models and pictures of glaciers melting and polar bears swimming, (btw they are thriving) that, incidentally has been happening since well since, let me check, oh yes here it is: since FOREVER. Don't get me started I've been at both these subjects longer than you have been.

@@oatnoid sustainable has nothing to do with climate change it is WOOD AVAILABILITY. not all varieties of wood make good tone wood for guitars. Many traditional tone woods are becoming scarce . Guitar manufacturing is not the only ones using some of these woods. and the Asian manufactures make more guitars than all of the US makers combined. The Ebony mill in Camerone that Taylor now owns and has a relationship with before Taylor got there were throwing away ebony trees because the wood was not all BLACK. Taylor asked why and they said no one wants it. Well Taylor said we will take it. There is no tonal difference it was just visual so now there is better use of ebony than before. Most manufactures end up getting their ebony through Taylor now as there is only a few mills world wide harvesting it. one reason even on other makes you are now seeing some striped ebony on fret boards. Taylor broke the mold in following the dumb ass " it has to be all pitch black or scrap the tree" idea that held true for decades of guitar making. To think that every tone wood will be around for every maker in the future is ignorance. So using more sustainable woods that grow faster after replanting insure good tone woods for the future.

@@oatnoid They never have a plan to to fix anything. This gentleman who got on your butt surely remembers back in the early seventies they said we were all going to freeze. Turns out we were in a mini ice age. So now they call it climate change so they can never be wrong again. I believe in protecting the planet as much as anyone, I recycle and do what I can. We also learned in school the ice age age brought us valleys and mountains. But now these liberals believe they can control climate by telling everyone else how they should live while they do NOTHING in changing how they live. Wrong place to go on a tangent but I'm with ya buddy, I've had enough of this crap from these idiots. As far as this guitar goes, it's okay and they have been using this wood for years and years so they haven't invented anything new, they are just using it to promote BS.
