that was my car! it actually a ws6 one of 346 made. through my research I discovered that it was assembled from leftover 78 corvette parts ,. the rear end and 4 wheel disc brakes. funnest car I ever owned. I never lost a race and got alot of tickets. I definitely did not want to lose it. Hope someone saves it and has fun with it. good times

Yes, rare indeed, but not "made from leftover 1978 Corvette parts". However, the 1979 Pontiac 400 engines WERE leftover 1978 Pontiac 400s stockpiled for the 1979 model year, so that's maybe what you were thinking.

@@googleusergp youre probably right about the engine. i was only referring the posi rear end with disc brakes

@@JeffEmery-m7mThose weren't from a 1978 Corvette either. Yes the Corvette had rear disc brakes, but they did not use leftover parts for this car.

I'm from the Seattle area (Redmond) and when I moved to NC, I brought a few vintage vehicles with me- people here in the RDU go nutty over the '76 Valiant sedan I putt around in with my dog (it looks pretty stock at a glance, it's not). Washington was an undiscovered gem for survivors for decades-

They quit making the 400 in 78.. the ones in 79 was all the backstock.. not many trans ams got the 400 either. So easy to get good power from the pontiac v8. Wish I could grab this one.

Seattle and surrounding areas have a bunch of older vehicles like this...hidden on properties that are now just being discovered in recent years due to situations like this fella or family members unloading estates. The new generations for the most part are not interested in fixing these up. This one actually is in decent shape. Most of these the quarters around the back glass are all rotted away amongst other panels. Fella I know in S. Florida had one on his property about 2 years ago...rusted out really bad, but it sold for $6k he told me. Said the guy that bought it had no concerns. Fixed up was a $80k car even if he dumped $60k in it.
I purchased a 63 GP from him..a complete running car, but it too was rusted out and was originally from Washington state...then went to New York then to S. Florida where it sat on a wooden plank trailer for 10 years under a cover (worst thing you can do for a siting vehicle). But in Wendell Idaho...there is a place that you can get your hands on a very nice solid (rust/rot) free car...just the typical surface patina. I purchased another 63 GP from them and am very happy with it's condition. Guy told me it was sitting out there for probably over 30 years.
"L&L Classic Auto". They have 8k cars on the property. If you do an aerial view of the property...looks like a city...lol

It is disgusting what some of these places are asking for cars still, the 2000 collector craze is long gone and they are still trying to con some one into a rediculus price tag. The best line I ever got was from the owner of a long past its prime Camaro telling me the price is worth "investing in history". That car is still there and will never move. The collector car generation is gone. Even rare, well optioned, low mileage cars in good shape are down in value past the bottom that was supposed to hit in 2011. There used to be places like L&L in Pennsylvania, acres and acres of old classic cars, the state stepped in and shut them down focing the owner to crush everything. It is a shame but all the car flippers and classic buyers brought it on by flooding the classic market. There is no reason to buy a classic and dump tens of thousands into it plus years of your life when you can just go out and buy one already done.

These types of finds used to be great, a car with history and the chance to be brought back to life for someone. Then BarretJackson changed everything, all of a sudden a car like this which would have sold for a few times over scrap because of the shape it was in, all of a sudden became a "Barn Find" car. The owners saw dollal signs and wihout cause or research the owners started asking five and six digits. Boyd Coddington and American Hotrod made it worse. People got even worse about what they were asking. I saw countless cars which were in worse shape than this with five digit asking prices because the owner saw one like that sell for six figures at Barrett Jackson. I tried to buy a Chevelle like that, the owner wanted huge money all of a sudden becaue he saw one sell for a song and dance. I explained that the car he saw had more than three quarters of the selling price in parts and labor to get it to that point, he just said "I know what it's worth". Dude died, the car rotted and got turned into scrap. There are cars like this and "well optioned" cars all over the US, they will never see the road again because of the asking price and the owners ignorance. I am curious what this place is asking, I am willing to bet it is up there.
I hope some one buys it and gets it going.

Yes, quite rare and worth restoring, even with the original "PWH" Pontiac 400 missing. One of 346 though, not 267 or whatever you said. No VIN, can't win, but easy to figure out, no doubt: 2 for Pontiac, U for Firebird Formula, 87 for two door coupe, Z for 400 CID V8 with four barrel, RPO code "L78/W72", 9 for 1979 model year, either N for Norwood, OH assembly or L for Van Nuys, CA assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Van Nuys plant closed in 1992, and the Norwood plant closed in August 1987.
No tag, can't brag, but this should be code 75 Mayan Red exterior paint with possibly code 16 Accent paint. I'd be interested to see the VIN and cowl tag. A PHS report would be a good thing to have, even though the VIN proves it out to be a Formula with a 400 V8.

Would cost way more to restore properly than what it's worth

It's not 1989 any longer. This car is worth something due to the pedigree. It's very, very rare being a 400 CID V8 equipped Formula. Very few were made. It's rarer than the Y84 400/4 speed SE cars of 1979 as well as the 10th Anniversary 400/4 speed (I have one). I'd gladly take a 1979 Formula with a 400.
