I once read that the smoky and the bandit cars were 1976 Pontiacs with 77 front ends because the 1977 models weren't available when they were filming the movie.
There was 4 cars they used, one of them was a 76 with a 77 front, where the other 3 were 77s I believe if memory serves correct, the first was used as a showcase to showcase the movie originally, which was why they had to put a 77 front end in there as the 77s weren't quite ready
All 4 were actually destroyed during shooting too, with 1 being destroyed just on the bridge scene, the sound was from a 55 Chevrolet custom, as the other guy mentioned, because they didn't think the trans am sounded powerful enough
Yeah, they've tried to capitalize on what Derek does on his own channel, but Motor Trend edits them so heavily that the magic is lost. So much is cut out that these Roadworthy episodes are barely worth watching.

I'm so glad that the firebird logo is on the hood. I know it had to be for it but like so many people keep taking it off and I hate when people do that. I wish this car would make a comeback though.
I'm restoring my '76 T/A, I'm not bragging or anything, buti do know what it's like to fix a car that's been sitting for 20 years under a tree, getting rained on, they will not just fire up, I had the pre-caution to remove and dismantle the Carb, only to find dirt & twigs inside, I'm glad I didn't try to fire it up like that. Don't want any more junk going into the motor, trying to avoid a tear down rebuild. These things take time, especially if you're doing it yourself, replacing shocks, new brakes, re-doing the entire braking system, including new master cylinder, new hard lines, and new brake hoses, new wheel cylinders & hardware, new emergency brake cables, new shoes and pads and rotors and bearings, restore the wheels, paint them, new tires, etc it goes on & on. This should have been at least a 3 hour video.
I wish Motor Trend wouldn't stage how the car was found. It's like the videographer said, " It will look better if we pile up a bunch of leaves on the roof of the car, and pile some up on top of the rear tire, because that will look natural". smh

That was a lovley colour . We're restoring one atm it was gold its going black .
OMG...he turned it into a MONSTER...LoVe it dude!!! Lets show more of the car please!!!
these cars are made to bring a smile to yer face you can put so many cool engines in them like plug and play stock parts
One of the sadest attempts of making a car look like its been sitting under a tree for years..
Lol are u there why u no so much about this?
@@PhenomProductions-tn5fjI'm going to go out on a ledge and assume you don't watch Vice Grip Garage.
this is a build i really wanna see... i cant wait to see what you do with it..
That satin black actually looked pretty good with those gold graphics.
Looked like a$$. And that “satin” finish will show off every imperfection. It would have looked better the way he “found” it.
The matte black looks awesome! Great show!
Bring this car to the vgg channel
I'm from a small town Iowa. Population 401. Moved to downtown Phoenix in '85. God i miss country roads !!!👽
My dad had one of these when I was a kid. The colors were reversed though. It was gold with the black bird.
Yeah, I loved all the spinning burnouts at the end!!
I wish Motor Trend wouldn't stage how the car was found. It's like the videographer said, " It will look better if we pile up a bunch of leaves on the roof of the car, and pile some up on top of the rear tire, because that will look natural". smh
I was going to comment the same. All the trees surrounding have green leaves. This is what happens when a corporation writes the script.
sadly, it wasnt even found there, green grass under the car, no ruts from the tires sitting there for years. it was all 100% bogus.
@@leftyo9589 This is part of the reason why Motor Trend is not a big as it should be, because they have no problem with insulting the intelligence of the viewers.
my favorite all time car, i know they are not super fast but nothing beats the way they look and sound
Stop with the fake leaves.
It was pretty obvious
403 Oldsmobile 💯👍
If it's an Olds 403, that's a garbage low horsepower motor!!
@@jasonmacneil2256 all you really need to do is put some 1970 64 cc heads Aluminum Intake and headers to wake it up been there done that had a lot of fun on the cheap but every maker makes garbage Motors
@@rogersaucedo8817 most pontiac guys I know removed the low compression low horsepower 403 Olds motors from their trans ams and added a pontiac 400 or 455. Much better motor and more easy to add more power!!
Had those Motors to fun Motors to work on
