  • Time to start making some decent progress with the swap. That means removing the factory engine brackets to make way for my own. Warning, contains scenes of questionable fabrication skills.

    Nice stuff buddy. Real cool video and the commentary is spot on. I have no idea what you are doing but can follow along with your explanations easily enough. Looking forward to the next one!

      With enough practice you'll pick it up. Watch lots of tutorials.

    This was the best episode by far, and "only" contained fabricating 2 very well done engine mounts. Kudos! I like how you collected and told the plans calmly, yet the drill's battery wasn't charged up. I felt your pain there. Classic 😅

      Amazing what a flat battery can do to an afternoon 😄. Thanks so much for the nice feedback!

    Really nice job for a first time fabricating something! You can see the welds improving with each weld, it isn't that hard, just takes a lot of practise.
    Just one small thing, please please please do not use those 4.8 bolts in the finished product!!!

      Thanks 👍 I managed to fix a wire feed issue with my welder, turns out I didn't have the feed roller tight enough so it was slipping. Things improved massively since then.

      @@cgten you make it look easy but I can imagine it’s been frustrating, I feel the same as you mentioned at the beginning of the episode that it’s something we would put off because of the lack of experience only one way tho and you’ve given it a good go mate fair play

      I've always had a tendency to spend too much time thinking about how I'm going to approach a task, then never actually doing it. This whole project is meant to challenge that behaviour and leave me with a tangible working result at the end.

    Hi there im looking forward to building my own 1.8t micra but i have a k12 do you think its the same type of mount

    • @cgten
      @cgten  5 місяців тому

      The CR engine family used in the K12 was based on the CG engines from the K11, so I'd imagine the mounts are similar. The gearbox side might be different though. Whatever you do it'll have to be custom made so whatever works for your application.

    great fabrication for a newbie!! i dont suppose you have drawings or a template for these as i own a cnc plasma and would love to cut myself a set out!!

    • @cgten
      @cgten  6 місяців тому

      I did start making CAD models for the engine mounts in Fusion 360, just in case I needed to remake a part later on, but they're incomplete and not guaranteed to be accurate in any way. The brackets that are welded to the chassis are made by eye using cardboard templates, so probably not very helpful. I'd love a plasma cutter one day, would save me so much time.

    I'm planning on doing the same swap on my k10 the 1.8 bam seems to be a very cheap engine for the power output

    • @cgten
      @cgten  Рік тому +1

      Not much else out there that ticks all the boxes for cheap and available power. If it fits in a K11 then it ought to fit in a K10. Best of luck with the swap!
