    All brushed motors power tools will spark due to the direct contact. The non sparking drill Scotty used is brushless (DeWalt XR) so not the same comparison. If Scotty used a brushed motor DeWalt, it would also spark.

    Sparks on the back of that drill just means it's not a brushless motor.
    It's brushed, they do spark, and its 100% normal. They all (brushed motors) do it regardless of brand or quality.

    • @DennisTea
      @DennisTea Рік тому +29

      It is normal, but the sparks are caused by carbon dust from the brush arcing out inside the drill. While it is normal, the brushes in drills like that wear out fast and need replaced. You can tell a cheaper brushed drill from a quality one from the amount of sparks inside. A quality brushed drill needs the brush replaced after 60 hours of use and makes less sparks. Brushless drills are cheap enough today that you should get them instead. Just around 1/4 more expensive than a brushed drill. Minimal wear and friction means the battery lasts longer as well.

      @joshuarhymer525 Рік тому +1

      @@altgraymedia3655 a lot of DJI's products have apps that go along with the hardware, like their gimbals. It actually opens up a huge variety of features that wouldn't be possible anywhere near the price of the product (object tracking, focus tracking). A purpose-built model would be 5x the price, easily, so I should hope it would be better.
      anyways, most of their new drones have no need to use your phone at all, if you're willing to spend extra to get a controller with a built in screen.

Literally shows a working drill and says the sparking mean it's on the verge of being broken. 😆 If you listened to Scotty about everything you'd be walking to work and turning screws with your fingernails. I have a vintage Skil brushed drill from the 1960s that belonged to my dad and he used it my whole life until I ended up with it. Built like a tank and it also sparked like a fireworks display, and it still worked for decades. Out of curiosity to see if I could reduce the sparking, I replaced the brushes and cleaned the commutator to restore the area that sparks back to clean condition. And guess what? It still sparks, and it still runs just fine even though it's 80 years old. BuT tEh SpArKinG mUsT MeAn iT's a cHeAp dRilLL 🤡

  • @86smoke

    Regarding sparks from power drill, it is normal for power tools without brushless motor. It is brushes that cause sparks and it is nothing wrong with it EXCEPT it is cheaper solution and you should be aware of consequences. Those motors aren't made to sustain big loads and prolonged use, it is an amateur tool. I have one of those (AC powered) for occasional use and it works fine for over 10 years.

    Scotty's automotive repair knowledge is impressive and can be very helpful. Regarding other topics, there may be some disagreements. I agree that manufacturers' greed outsourcing to China is short term gain for long term pain, but really we the consumers share the blame - we want low prices. Pretty much everything is now made in China, clothes, major bearing brands, parts and tools of all quality, major brand cell phones - you name it. When I was young, if something was of poor quality and cheap we joked that it was made in Japan, well those times certainly changed. And so with China, you just can't generalize. Brushed vs brushless DC motors has been explained in other comments. Corded vs cordless is another topic, from my experience quality battery powered tools are superior to corded AC powered tools. Generally cordless have more torque, run smoother and have more precise speed control, and ofcourse no cord. I now buy the Ridgid brand because of the lifetime warranty that also covers batteries, that is a really big thing. In my opinion brushed or brushless is no big deal if you have a lifetime warranty, if you wear out the brushes no problem, you're covered. Oh and if you replace your own brushes,you can soak unplated carbon brushes overnight in motor oil before installing, it will be absorbed and they will last much longer.

    I've had a Kimo electric 3/8" rachet for over a year now and it still holds up. Battery life is good, charger still works. It's slow and doesn't have much break-away torque but I find that it's better in some situations because you don't risk over torquing or stripping a bolt/screw

      @@ferfrdfsfwf I know what you mean, but my brushed motors usually don't spark for the first 6 or so months. When originally manufactured it is supposed to not spark, or at least as much, as that isn't as efficient. Like I said, it really doesn't change a whole of a lot. You would need to really try some serious testing to find a difference.

About 85% of them use Milwaukee and/or DeWalt 👍 sometimes you'll see a Rigid tool or something in there somewhere and some of those other brands are ok but when you have a bunch of guys using the tools all day every day and treating them like a rental, everybody knows the Red and Yella ones are what you buy.

I've had Chinese tires too and had zero issues. that drone can be re-flashed to work again. Why is Scotty attacking China so much? They make some good stuff too, don't by the cheapest stuff, read reviews if available and you'll be fine. And Scotty those sparks are from the motor's brushes, that's 100% normal with electric motors. Many newer drills have brushless motors, therefor no sparks.
