      The sparks just mean the motor has brushes as opposed to brushless it's just a different type of motor

  • @europana7
    @europana7 3 роки тому +1867

    All brushed motors power tools will spark due to the direct contact. The non sparking drill Scotty used is brushless (DeWalt XR) so not the same comparison. If Scotty used a brushed motor DeWalt, it would also spark.

    Sparks on the back of that drill just means it's not a brushless motor.
    It's brushed, they do spark, and its 100% normal. They all (brushed motors) do it regardless of brand or quality.

    • @DennisTea
      @DennisTea Рік тому +30

      It is normal, but the sparks are caused by carbon dust from the brush arcing out inside the drill. While it is normal, the brushes in drills like that wear out fast and need replaced. You can tell a cheaper brushed drill from a quality one from the amount of sparks inside. A quality brushed drill needs the brush replaced after 60 hours of use and makes less sparks. Brushless drills are cheap enough today that you should get them instead. Just around 1/4 more expensive than a brushed drill. Minimal wear and friction means the battery lasts longer as well.

      @@altgraymedia3655 a lot of DJI's products have apps that go along with the hardware, like their gimbals. It actually opens up a huge variety of features that wouldn't be possible anywhere near the price of the product (object tracking, focus tracking). A purpose-built model would be 5x the price, easily, so I should hope it would be better.
      anyways, most of their new drones have no need to use your phone at all, if you're willing to spend extra to get a controller with a built in screen.

      Lol !but I like Scotty tbh, he’s very knowledgeable about cars, as well as any other automobile mechanics. (Though; few will give the free knowledge, when most mechanics will keep mouth shut and won’t give the advice!) they looking what’s inside your wallet.
      and believe me when I say this, that us newer generation folks might know a lot about the newer generation power tools, some of us take lots of time studying and browsing all the specs for these tools,
      on the other side, old school mechanics have spent decades using pneumatic and air compressors, I think it’s the way to go for them using air tools in the shop due the durability and well made of metal construction, and aside of that; all the oldie tools are made in USA, so that’s something to be proud of .

    That 120v is ac. The battery drills are running DC. Also, the voltage is not an indicator of power (although a corded drill can have less limits because of the unlimited power) or durability. Brushed motors wear out faster and are less efficient all the time. The only real benefit is they're cheap.
    BTW your dewalt is a brushless probably since it's the xr line.

Literally shows a working drill and says the sparking mean it's on the verge of being broken. 😆 If you listened to Scotty about everything you'd be walking to work and turning screws with your fingernails. I have a vintage Skil brushed drill from the 1960s that belonged to my dad and he used it my whole life until I ended up with it. Built like a tank and it also sparked like a fireworks display, and it still worked for decades. Out of curiosity to see if I could reduce the sparking, I replaced the brushes and cleaned the commutator to restore the area that sparks back to clean condition. And guess what? It still sparks, and it still runs just fine even though it's 80 years old. BuT tEh SpArKinG mUsT MeAn iT's a cHeAp dRilLL 🤡

    Most gas powered pressure washers have belt driven pumps. This setup helps the pump last longer and run cooler also less vibrations from the engine. The belt does break after a while. They make industrial pressure washers that are direct drive (gear driven) but the pumps don't last as long they run hotter and at higher RPM. Simpson is an excellent brand! 🇺🇲

    • @Rmac335
      @Rmac335 3 роки тому +3

      No. No they don’t. I work in a small engine shop. Pressure washers are all direct drive to the pump. Same idea as a wood splitter, secured to the pump by 4 bolts and a key on the crank shaft. I’ve never once in my life even heard of a belt driven pressure washer.
