First Gen 2006 - 2008 Honda Pilot Transfer Case Fluid Change

- Together with the VTM-4 Rear Differential fluid change for the 1st Gen 2006 - 2008 Honda Pilot is the transfer case oil change . I recently got A136 service code which entails oil and filter change, tire rotation, ATF, and the VTM-4 Differential and Transfer case fluid change. Please stay tuned for all these videos.
Update: Please note that 06-08 models had the case and needs regular 80-90w fluid. 03-05 models don't have the transfer case, the transmission fluid takes care of the lubrication.

Thank you ! great video
You are welcome @Roy Lowry! Thanks for your support🙏
The 2003 -2005 pilots shared fluid with the transmission
Great info
Thank you 🙏
You need to change the title to 2006-2008 pilot. The 2003 -2005 pilots shared fluid with the transmission. There are no drain and fill holes on the 03-05s as I discovered when I went to change mine...
Thanks for the info! I will verify and make the necessary title adjustment.
Ok I just read on the forum that 06-08 models indeed have the case and needs regular 80-90w fluid. 03-05 models don't have the transfer case, the tranny fluid takes care of the lubrication
@@JNBTuning Great, informative video. Thanks for taking the time to make it!
@@gvmeacalll thank you for your support and by letting me know! It is alway my pleasure to give back to the car community.
I caught that too... I have an actual 1st Gen and it doesn't have the same holes in it.. Would you happen to know where you add fluid?? I'm having a heck of a time finding out any info on this.. Thanks!
How to change oil cell from pilot garr 08?
At how many miles did you change the Oil, Transfer, Transmission and Rear Differential?
How to stop oil leak in this garr
Good explanation question do you have any issue with vibration at 65 up i replace almost all front end axles intermediate shaft and nothing issue stills any advice ? Thanks
No issues like that, but vibrations can cause by many things. Try to hear or feel where it is coming from either from the front or the rear, etc… it could be from your mounts, suspension, shafts, wheel, the drivetrain in general.
Hi, nice video. What are the sizes of the crush washers (and their Honda parts numbers?). I just changed the ATF on my 2008 Pilot, which had an18mm gasket at the drain end and a 24mm one at the fill end. Not sure if these are the same for the transfer case. Thanks.
First of thank you! Unfortunately bro I have been relying on my Honda parts guy too much and not really sure what sizes are the crush washers. But I am sure you can get all of these details if you call the dealer given your year and model
@@JNBTuning Just completed my work today. For the benefit of others who may attempt the same, the crush washers (at both the inlet and drain ends of the transfer case) are 20mm, Honda Part #: 94109-20000. Thanks again for the nice tutorial.
@@Musiclover5258 thank you for the info
I have a 2wd 2006 Honda Pilot EX and I don't see this transfer case. Is it possible that it's only on 4wd models? Thanks
Yes, the transfer case is for the all wheel drive pilots only.
Do manual transmission have a transfer case?
I’m under my 2006 RD7
Honda CR-V AWD
I don’t see a transfer case
????
Different system entirely. Check the Honda Element or CRV forums for a complete description which does not have a separate transfer case. I've owned CRV's and now an Element and the system is called a Dual Pump System which works great for standard use. The system on the Pilot is more heavy duty.
The only AWD maintenance is to religiously change the Dual Pump II fluid. The manual calls for 60K intervals but my dealer recommends 30K miles. Since it is not expensive, I change it at 15K mile intervals.
You MUST use Honda fluid in the rear diff. No exceptions!
Regardless of whether you have a manual transmission (like my Element and one of my CRV's) or an automatic transmission, the rest of the drive train remains the same including the rear diff. I also have an HRV with a CVT transmission but still uses the same rear diff fluid as the rest: Honda Dual Pump II.
Is the transfer case fluid able to be changed on a 2003 Pilot?
I provided an update in the description on this topic. 03-05 models don't have the transfer case, the transmission fluid takes care of the lubrication in the process
Did the transfer case fill need more than the one bottle?
For my SUV it only required 500ml out of the bottle which is 900ml
A little off topic I'm pulling a 110k tranny how do I get to the fly wheel bolts?
Sorry I haven’t done any contents in the given topic on the channel yet. Try searching on YTi am sure there are other vids out there.
Isn't the vehicle supposed to be flat level and not with the front raised ?
Yes 👍🏻
All "fill and spill" changes should be done with the vehicle level. This is why I have my garage do it. I don't have a lift.
How much fluid is used?
It is used to lubricate the transfer case
I have a 1st Generation Honda Pilot it's a 2004. What u have is a 2nd generation and the diff case is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT... I would change the title man. We needed help trying to figure out where you add and drain the fluid. But it's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like what you have here... Is no holes on the diff case to add or drain fluid, on first Generation Honda 2004 Pilot..
2nd gen starts in 2009, but yes, there are a ton of differences that happened in 2006-2008 (j35a6 -> j35a9, atf filter differs, etc, etc, etc.). Let's get people to call the 2006-2008 1.5gen, shall we?
@@kidicarus2637 1.5gen I dig it LMFAO 👍
Probably, you don't need to change. It is a life time. Or consult honda dealership.
PLEASE FIX THE TITLE!!! THIS ISN'T A 1ST GEN!
Hi my Pilot is a 1st Gen. Note that the first generation have gone through many revisions/facelifts between 03 to 08. Please refer to these Wikipedia for more info: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Pilot
Hope this will help!

@@JNBTuning I insist on calling the 2006-2008 the 1.5Gen. Join me on that trend! :P
