    NakedSolidSnake1 That "protection thing" you are talking about is a vibration damper. It is to prevent small vibrations from causing wear in the transfer case so if you take it off, you can cause damage over the long term. Do you really think a car company wants to add extra stuff to their cars that costs them money (especially a big weight like that)?

    • @chrisfix
      @chrisfix  10 років тому +19

      NakdSolidSnake Because bigger transfer cases weight more and have more mass to absorb vibration. Let me know what you find. I know for sure you need it because no car company will spend extra money on something they dont need.

    Some clarification on Mercon. Very hard to find Mercon-specific ATF fluid anymore. Had to do some research on this as I couldn't find anything at Wal-Mart. What I found out after some Googling: Ford does not license the name anymore. Also, initially Ford said not to mix Mercon and Mercon V but now they say you can... in automatic transmissions only! Mercon V is NOT for use in transfer cases. Ford now has the XL-12 specification for their transfer cases. You can order a Motorcraft version but I found Valvoline's Multi-Vehicle Transfer Case Fluid at my local car parts store and it meets XL-12 specs. Hope this helps some people out there.

    Very professionally done. Not easy to get good lighting and sound, often when on your back and working one-handed. Good editing and linking to your related topic videos, also.
    Keep up the good work!

    Nice video. Your truck requires the ATF transmision fluid. For my Mazda '97 Mazda MPV 4 X 4 the transfer case uses GL-5 gear oil. A manual is an important resource for the proper specs. You always mention that in your videos. It is so important.
