I was playing doom and saw this as an option on the mod store and just thought "Huh, he must've made a video on that. Looks pretty important" and continued getting my ass beat on the shores of hell

Sigil 2 is Thy Flesh Consumed but Romero-fied™. Brutally difficult opening level, plenty of Cyberdemons, and missing having the Super Shotgun.
I feel like the BFG in Sigil II was given away too cheaply though. I prefer the way No Rest For The Living did it, though that one was too hard.
Because in Doom II, objectively, the super shotgun is busted. It's too powerful, almost turns the game into a joke, makes the original, good, shotgun, obsolete, etc.
So I hope Romero hides it and doesn't give it away for free.
@@FightingForceSoulless Fair. I am no Doom pro, but I do feel like the Super Shotgun isn't *that* overpowered. It's slow fire-rate and low accuracy makes it weak on far-away targets and suck on enemies streaming in to your location. Those downsides don't matter much, but in large teleporter closets or upper-middle range encounters? There is more than plenty of usage for the Pump Shotgun.
@@FightingForceSoullessover time I actually started to realize that SSG isn't that powerfull, it takes 2 shells and the range is very short. This is my opinion after I pistol start doom 2

Now you mention it, it DOES feel like oldschool Civvie, back when he was covering the Build trilogy and doing the Pro Doom series.
It even has a Humiliating the Cyberdemon bitt at like 3:00.
Trav and Civvie seem to be friends, given he got Civvie to play Half Life Decay with him. Civvie also confirmed in a recent video that “Katie” is merely a fictional character, meaning all the editing in his vids really are all him, so it’s likely Civvie might’ve taught Trav some tricks.
@@BloodRedFox2008 I already knew that Katie was fictional since long before then but that part of the video was unsettling because Civvie was so genuinely upset that for the first time in the history of his channel (I'm pretty sure anyway, I've seen all of his videos several times over) that he completely broke character. Imagine how terrible something has to be that Civvie dropped the performative anger he does for laughs, he dropped the jokes about being a prisoner and the channel lore, all so he could make it completely clear that he wasn't exaggerating for entertainment value when talking about how bad the demo for Phantom Fury and the 1.0 release of Graven were.

I played Eviternity 2 and Sigil 2 basically back-to-back and the difference in design philosophy hit me like a brick. E2 was great, don’t get me wrong, but the maps were huge arenas meant to fight enemies in, while Romero makes the map geo itself an enemy: limiting your movement in fights and of course the traps and misdirection.

Once again, the first Sigil soundtrack... was not made for Sigil. All of the songs except for one were made years ago, and just slapped together for a playlist.
Idon't think that's the case with Sigil II, and so the non-MIDI soundtrack is amazing. Especially the track Incineration Anthem. It's much more... action and hype.
The first Sigil's soundtrack was more melancholic, and while I don't consider it to be bad, at least I'm not short-changed with old songs in Sigil II.
PS: also, 11:03, yes, as soon as you brought it up, I knew what you meant, also, PRO SYSTEM SHOCK REMAKE WHEN, wait, wrong channel (but really, you should make a video on the remake)

Beautiful video as always, trav! The intro goes so hard, love the Reznor scream at the end, you’ve been going so hard in terms of videos lately and it shows for the better. One of my fav creators on youtube for a reason!
2:24 those are still teleporters in here as well.
But the linedefs around them which have the teleport action are smaller than in Sigil 1.
And the hitboxes in Doom are always squares that don't rotate. Even the player hitbox.
So if you aproach them from diagonal angle you'll just bump into it. Because the corners of the object's hitbox are too close to the teleport lines.
I've been looking forward to this one. Ole Romero is making another game now as well.

Regarding verticality: The original Doom engine had issues with very tall sectors that could lead to game crashes. Sigil II requires a limit-removing port, so this issue is fixed, allowing for the more vertical map you note. However, Sigil II was designed to be run on the official “Unity port” which has its own problem with extremely tall sectors, so Sigil II doesn’t scrape the sky of the verticality possible in Doom. (If you want to see something really tall, play No End In Sight E4M6 Sanctuary of Filth, which is what lead to the discovery of the tall sectors bug in the Unity port. As a result it isn’t in the version of NEIS available in the Unity port, and must be played in another sourceport.)

There is a difference between hard plutonia or lazy sigil traps
How can you get that smooth and fluid movement of all the sprites? I mean guns and enemies. How can you get those "sparks" effect on the surface of the lava when you walk on it? And HOW can you gib cacodemos and even Barons??? I mean, all those particles effects looks very nice, meat, blood, everything, and fits perfect for the classic aesthetics

You will, but it'll be a bit. I'm kinda burnt out of Doom, so I'm gonna focus on Metroid for a bit.
Sigil was pretty good, but Sigil II wasted the majority of a day and pissed me off, so I deleted it on level 7, after I put it down for the night.
I'm not going to remember any of this gaming-busywork later in my life. Why drive myself mad on it? The secret level was pretty good though (mostly).

I wonder why Romero keeps making these little episodes for Doom 1 but not 2, he was definitely there for the creation of both. Does he just prefer Doom 1s systems more? Was he too busy deathmatching again?
Neither sigil is bad (thats more of a YOU skill issue) they are bad like most romero maps across games tho
I don't even really like Civie, but I thought you deserved to know as it's probably subconscious. But the whole narration style and even the opening.. it is REALLY trying to emulate Civie's videos.
