Ahh you see that's the beauty of that item. The more you read it, it becomes more ambiguous. I believe when the author wrote that, the intention behind it was to succinctly explain that Sturnn recovered the Titan. When I showed that exact quote to a few people, when they read it; they interpreted it as he succeeded. However when they read it a few times again it seems that the quote implies that he just merely existed and attempted to recover the Titan. I would argue, the 'letter of the law' is a ambiguous. I believe that the 'spirit of the law', is to succinctly state the Guard victory. I believe it's up to interpretation however there is plenty of evidence from those 3 books to explain either the Eldar wone, or the Guard won. But I would claim for the developers to include that armour, and it unceremoniously state the Guard won, is VERY in line with how they handled the Orks being the canon victors of Soulstorm.
@@Saint_Jam it says to recover which leads me to believe he did otherwise it would have said in an attempt to recover. I believe after the campaign he became the Planetary Governer like Aleksander in Dark Crusade.
To be fair, the only straight up difference between the Eldar and IG endings is that the Eldar ending has the Titan more severely damaged and some more Guardsmen dying. For all intents and purposes, the Order campaign is canonical, otherwise Sturnn and Taldeer would both need to be dead as per the third and fourth scenarios of the Disorder campaign, respectively. It is possible that the damage done to the Titan in the Eldar outcome wasn't as severe. I mean, hell, the Orks in their ending actively try to destroy the damn thing to piss off the Chaos gits, and the Necrons also rampage across it after them, and neither of these two events are sufficient to cause it to go nuclear. And I'm not sure the Eldar would need to commandeer the thing to such a degree that the explosion would damage it more than what the Orks and Nekrons were doing in that route. It is possible for IG to have recovered the Titan after that, just somewhat worse for wear. So the Titan being recovered might also not be an indication, similar to Taldeer's survival. IG actually recovering the Titan and Taldeer being alive are two events that could in theory occur in either of the endings. There is also some other possibilities, like a true ending being a combination of the two. In the Disorder route fourth scenario, you lose if either of the Eldar or IG objectives are completed, and they both end up completed in the scenario at basically the same time. It is possible the outcome is not fully or adequately represented within the campaign design. I do think the intent is for the Eldar to have won, as it more readily shows Taldeer's survival, with IG eventually reclaiming the Titan post-kaboom. But I don't think it changes things too much. For the purposes of this sort of playthrough, I think having the IG ending as canonical isn't overtly bad.
@@Crossil the thing is that that Titan at the start is in really good condition. the Imperium dont have the ability anymore to repair a titan completely. so yes Eldar might not be able to destroy it completly but it might destroy it so much that recovery is no longer practical.
oooofff yeah its morale crushing when doing tvat in soul storm. in dark crusade it is hilarious, you can build in an area in and around possible enemy bases but you can still block em in with turrets, mines and troop buildings
@ltredscorpion7147 Thankfully, there is one, though it does make the sisters of battle home base buff way less useful. Since it ess just a limited version of a persistent base
So, funfact, according to old lore, a guardsman has about a 5% chance of surviving a battle. Every battle you survival, the chance of survival for the next battle doubles to 10, then 20, then 40, then 80. If every guardsman you saved in this campaign were all the same guardsmen. . . you just created an army of Sly Marbos.
Successive chances are multiplicative so it’s even worse odds lmao. Surviving 2 battles in a row is (1/20) X (1/20) which equals (1/400). And that’s just 2 battles. Four battles would be (1/20) to the fourth power. These guardsmen should try a lottery ticket lol

Words do not describe how amazing that final level feels with the IG. I don't know why I wasn't subscribed to you after watching your previous Dawn of War video but that has now been fixed. Looking forward to next time if you end up playing dark crusade.
Love the ThunderPsyker reference towards the end, there. Granted, I don't know how old Sturnn was, or even what year this event took place within the canon, but there's a chance Sturnn died of old age. That's an incredible feat for an Imperial Guard General who's constantly on the front.
Successful Generals get anti aging technology. Yet Sturnn is lacking them and is already old. Logically, Sturnn made General by merit which is not uncommon for Cadia, but also means he didn't come from a privileged background to afford him greater technology. He led the men from the front and liked to get stuck in. This is a train not befitting of becoming anything above a General.
I like Varnus, the gigachad not just takes down a bloodthirster but is actually a little bit respectful towards Sturn and his bois. He deserves to be called an ultramarine stead of ultrasmurf.

Interestingly enough, I know you avoided Psykers because of their "self-kill" chance, but if you were worried about the Defiler in "No Retreat", you could have cast Curse of the Machine Spirit. In WA, it changes the armor type from vehicle to infantry, and that would mean your lasguns tear it apart in mere moments.

I like winter assault because it actually understood 40k lore was supposed to be funny. Crull gnawing on the scenery with sharpened teeth is by far my favorite voice performance of any of the 40k games.
I like to imagine in regards to canon as far as Soulstorm is concerned Chapter Master Kyras sent the fated company led by Boraele to die, an inexperienced commander, in a field of battle where their main tactic is easily countered to send shockwaves through the morale of the chapter while remnants of the company join up with the IG and sisters of battle who despite attempts from the Alpha Legion (Who I am convinced are actually just Black Legion who grabbed the wrong banner) try to trick the loyal imperium forces into combat with one another are able to reclaim the sector for the imperium! Just a little head canon of mine...

I choose to believe that the Ork and Chaos prologues went like that because the imperium sent a couple of calidus assassins to replace the commanders of those factions

When a planet is taken by human forces, the Imperium often grants the conquering leader the heritable title of planetary governorship (be they an officer of the Astra Militarum, a rogue trader, etc). Between the refugees and the years-long restoration of the holy titan, I think it's pretty likely that the old man spent the rest of his life on Lorn V as Lord Governor Sturrn where he demonstrated the same dedication and humanitarian focus for rebuilding as he did in war during the winter campaign. Perhaps we see Sturrn's old outfit in DoW2 because after he took on the mantle of imperial governor -the space magpies stole his old threads- it was gifted to the Blood Ravens whom his new civilian subjects owe their lives.
Hands down, Saint Jam's way of playing games, not only completing the challenges but also enriching them with RP and additional lore is simply the best way for me.
@@Zack_Wester From what I know, Titans are repairable as the Mechanicum continues to build them. Perhaps not practical, but still doable.
Your tendency to build huge forts by delaying the end will serve you well in Dark Crusade but be punished in Soulstorm. I look forward to it.
oooofff yeah its morale crushing when doing tvat in soul storm.

So, funfact, according to old lore, a guardsman has about a 5% chance of surviving a battle.
Every battle you survival, the chance of survival for the next battle doubles to 10, then 20, then 40, then 80.
If every guardsman you saved in this campaign were all the same guardsmen. . . you just created an army of Sly Marbos.
not sure the math checks out on that one chief
@@tobydubu DEMZ ORK MAFFS! DEY WORK OUT GUD!

The guardsmen under your command are almost protected by The Emperor Himself. I liked how you took your time to reinforce every possible way on the map before moving on. Goes to show how much attention to detail you give to the challenge you undertake. Your masterful use of the mechanized units really showed how the Emperor protects. I hope to see you try the same challenge with other factions in Dawn of war. I would really like to see how the human spirit blooms even in the forces of chaos.
Finally someone respecting the lives of the guard
Some say this is boring and takes a lot but watching all those friendly npcs survive and thrive despite the game expecting them not to is the most rewarding feeling in the world. GG my friend
Words do not describe how amazing that final level feels with the IG. You probably spend like half the level just barely holding your own against the Chaos, Orks and finally Necrons, but when that Imperial Guard theme kicks in and you get a Baneblade, it's *so* good to charge and pound those soulless automatons flat.
The Death Korps HATE him. Watch how this one gigachad saves guardsman lives with this secret trick!

I Love it bro, playing games from an RP perspective drastically makes just about every game insanely more fun I've noticed 👀
Another truly epic vid. I am ashamed to say that prior to this, I had never even heard of General Stern. But after seeing this... I wouldn't be surprised if his 412th were 'collected' by a certain interdimensional kleptomaniac for being the finest regiment ever produced by Cadia.
Cadia Stands! Honor to the Emperor, and to our shining example, Imperial Saint Simpkin!

Our saint finally enters winter assault as the Imperial guard.
I always try to keep any friendly alive no matter the game and alot of the time I lose one but these always satisfy me the pure dedication is extremely admirable
Saint jam is the embodiment of "No man left behind."
I can't describe the sense of awe I feel watching guys like you play games like this without deaths. Considering how I've always played these games trying to preserve units and manpower I know how difficult this kind of challenge is and seeing you keep every single guardsman alive is insane.
Sweet, something to save me from my depression.
Exercise helps. Or you can make more excuses for yourself. One time i said to someone walking helps and they were mentally crippled. Another i said something as simple as lifting your arms up and down in a repetition to get some blood flow to aching muscles. "It hurt".

I used to do this kind of role playing and settlement on Warcraft 2, 3, Starcraft, and the Command and Conquer series. It's nice to find a UA-camr that scratches that itch
ill be honest whenever i play games i try saving as many friendly's as possible but you take it to a whole new level and props to you i love what you do
Interestingly enough, I know you avoided Psykers because of their "self-kill" chance, but if you were worried about the Defiler in "No Retreat", you could have cast Curse of the Machine Spirit. In WA, it changes the armor type from vehicle to infantry, and that would mean your lasguns tear it apart in mere moments.
Video idea: without save scumming, try to beat any XCOM game without any soldiers dying.
Other ideas:
-Completing every mission in Starsector without losing any ships under your command
-Playing RimWorld and completing the spaceship construction/journey ending without any colonists dying (again, no save scumming)
-Completing the rest of the Halo series while trying to save every marine/ally
Such a video deserves the Big E's blessings & Yarrick's respect

I choose to believe that the Ork and Chaos prologues went like that because the imperium sent a couple of calidus assassins to replace the commanders of those factions
If eldar loose and IG won, then DC motivation of Lucas Alexander has no sense. And Stern still led his people to recover the fallen Imperator Titan on Lorn V in eldar ending. The item does not say that he succeeded in this endeavour.
I absolutely love this series i remember as a kid and still to this day lol i would pick up and empty enemy weapons and empty them so they enemies couldnt reuse them or destroy all vehicles from the opposing factions so once again they couldnt use them again this series scratches that itch I had as a kid to play games in my imagination beyond what their engines were capable of and basically write my actions into my own headcanon of games stories thank you so much for this series SaintJam I absolutely love it

Ain't gonna lie, I played those games from my yearly years. It's nice to see someone saving imperial guard! I tried doing this challenge to save everyone in other games, but never actually managed to do so. Alt ho, i chose games with scripted defenses like Blitzkrieg 1 and blitzkrieg 2. I managed to get trough like 5 missions, but never completed one game like you did here.

Bravo…you’ve achieved one of my old childhood dreams. Honestly I could shed a tear. I grew up playing this game as a lone Asian man eating rice in my grandparents garage. Fucking fantastic. Thank you.
"For honor my men! Fear not that we die and hope we win with every man and women on this world alive!"
I love these videos because I was one of those players who would reload checkpoints in games if any or too many friendly npc's died that could be saved or I accidentally team killed.
Im really glad I've got an opportunity to enjoy your content.
