Just received my 3x Microprism a few days ago. It is surprisingly close to an ACOG in glass quality, dare I say on par, and the weight to magnification ratio makes LPVOs really hard to justify now for rifles in non DMR roles. Nice builds, btw.
Those Shmitt 2-stage triggers are fantastic. I believe Centurion, FCD, Sionics, and BCM all use the OEM Schmitt. I like them better than the Larue mbt2s and about the same as the Geissele g2s. Not as good as the SSA-E, SDC, or KAC 2-stage, but close. Centurion is also my go to for mil spec receivers.
I put a the PA SLX 3x Microprism ACSS Raptor green reticle. I installed it on a carry handle 16” barrel. It’s a great low to medium range for that all purpose carbine. It’s a solid optic on a solid build. Magpul sling, moe furniture kit stock, foregrip, vert grip, trigger guard & mag in ghillie camo. Streamlight & Mlok mount w/flip down lens cover A.D. of white light. It’s my take on a K.I.S.S. carbine. You could easily train someone on it and have them plinking C zone size targets all day.
Hey man, came across this video and your channel on my recommendations. Great video pal and great content. You seem like a great guy too! Unfortunately, can’t build the real steel here in the uk, but can go down the air soft route to enjoy the hobby. Can’t wait to see more content pal :)
@@bunnyoperator clone stuff for the replica market is very easily accessible, along with actual real steel too. I don’t believe there are any restrictions but I’m unsure on that 100%.

Centurion is top notch and slept on. I mean who else is making KAC style bolts and barrels? Very smooth shooting setup. I liken mine to an old typewriter. Push the button hear a noise, feel a vibration and see the mark it makes on "paper"
Nice video. I do have the PA 3x prism on a carry handle build and I will say the eye relief is... ehhhhh. Mine's actually up super high cause I'm using one or two of the additional risers that come with it to bring it back farther, and even then I still have to have my face way forward. It's really not ideal. I wish there was a single mount that brought it way back farther. You can see in your pic of the ACOG that its rear is past the charging handle (8:18); that's how far you want to have the PA 3x as well, honestly. I'll have to update this after I can look at mine to say exactly how far mine's back, but it's not enough imo.
I've looked through the 3X and 5X since this video and I would agree on the eye relief. Nature of short prism optics I guess. Weapon Outfitters has a cantilever ACOG mount but I don't think they support the mini pattern (yet?). I'll wait around for solutions. Currently there's a Steiner P4Xi on this. Still experimenting. 😂
I have the x3 Slx on a flat top upper. Not sure how it would do with the HOB and BDCs. However, I do enjoy it. It's like an ACOG, but ACOG at home. For carry handle mounts I prefer to run a red dot. Just be sure to measure your HOB and look at a ballistics chart for your zeroing. One kind of advantage I find with these sighting systems is that you can have two different zeros between the optic and irons. For my irons on my 14.5 its a 25/350 yard zero, and the red dot is just a massive hold over at the short range, but between 100 and 200 is basically dead on. I guess one advantage of the PA optic is that you have built in ranging. Because guessing if the target is at 300-350 is kind of difficult in the real world.
Nice. I've swapped the microprism out for a Steiner P4Xi already. As with any optic/configuration you'd confirm your holds at distance and HOB won't be an issue. Carry handle height isn't that much taller than the current tall mount offerings on the market, so I am used to it. 🥳
I'd say to do whichever you feel is best for you. It's your setup, not mine. Use what I do for inspiration but it's unnecessary to "clone" it since what I do may not work for you. Plus I experiment a lot, and as you've seen with my builds they tend to change over time. Good luck!
I like the set up. I’m almost finished with my 14.5 carry handle build. Just waiting on my PA 3x to get here next week and my suppressor should be out of jail any day.
@@bunnyoperator I’ve already got the older 3x and then a new gen on another rifle. I’m used to them and sold on them. Plus the new ones are NVG compatible I’ve heard

@@scott2228 I don't have a favorite currently. I'm still testing options but if you need magnification or have eye issues where LED red dots do the work the Trijicon mini ACOG series or the Primary Arms micro prism series are good.
Not gonna lie bunny, we have the same exact taste in AR builds except I prefer serrated over dimpled FCD parts lol I’ve taken a Wyndham, Maine bushmaster and swapped the 20” barrel for a true 16” dissipator barrel (rifle length gas). I threw an aimpoint 3000 on the carry handle and ran it in a carbine class a couple weeks ago. It ran great and got a lot of attention. I noticed that a lot of the guys had high optic mounts including the instructors. It’s funny how we are starting to see a resurgence in the “heads up” shooting style coming back. Makes me think that the guys in the late 80’s/early 90’s really had that style down. I don’t plan on going back to flat tops unless it’s a DMR. not to mention the carry handle gives me a chub. I think this build is a perfect mesh of old and new school. Looking forward to more brother!
I agree, and feel the same. Unless primary magnified optic, I don't intend to run lower than the approx 4-4.5" HOB for optics. It's so much more comfortable especially when adding things like helmets or masks/shields. Sounds like you have a solid setup. I do plan on trying out the Aimpoint micro series once KE Arms releases their mount or I'll just order the Roush Manufacturing one if I get impatient. I'm thinking that paired with swapping for the quad might make it ideal. That little bit of extra beef just feels a bit better. I do talk about it in the A1 update video. PS I do run serrated on my 11.5 car and 12.5 mid setups. LOL
@@bunnyoperator carry handle + quad rail = tucked up in your waistband before recess type chub in the 6th grade. I’ve been waiting for the mid length c4 cutout quad for some time but can never catch it in stock. I do however have the c4 carbine cutout rail so I’ll most likely build a modernized 12.5” Gordon carbine clone from black hawk down with an aimpoint pro. I wish and hope centurion gets into the carry handle upper game because id be all over it!
@@hoonyur5973 Mid quad might be heavier than my preference. This 14.5 is already over 9lbs loaded in current config. I think I can get away with the Car quad on the 12.5. Need to source one eventually.
It was a fun experiment. I think I favor the 12.5 over it but that may change with a different optic for both. There are a few Aimpoint Micro mounts already on the market, so I may swap the PRO/ARMS 16 out on the 12.5 and PA 3X on the 14.5. I guess cater them to specialty use.
@@bunnyoperator I think the carry handle is a good concept overall. Definitely something I might try out with some planned builds. I'm also probably going to do something belligerent with my 20". But I definitely dig the vibe of this setup. Well done.
Your interview of Roger and use of FCD has got me in a possible all FCD parts build (except barrel and trigger). Ok it's because I had a LMT lower and could not find the 11.5 " spec war upper for MSRP and I refused to pay double for it as it's the most sought after LMT upper because 12.5" SBR fever has infected seemingly everyone. I'm hoping that I can acquire all of the FCD parts on my build list. Sadly the EPC and BCG are the hardest to acquire. I'm just glad that I can finally put together something good that I feel will be used almost exclusively until I try learning how to shoot with a long gun from a friend's dad that was a green beret and has some crazy nice rifles and glass from pawn shop deals. I guess in Las Vegas people will dump nice things for money if they have a gambling problem. Do you like 6mm ARC? I have another upper and I'd normally wait, but I am worried that enough weak-minded republicans will ban AR15 and other semi auto rifles within the next two months. I hope I'm wrong, but I feel that I want to do it now just in case. Plus if there are food shortages as many predict then I can imagine people pushing moral limits and start stealing or flat out attack your family at night and rob your food if your house isn't secured. I know sometimes it's best for people to not know that you're a gun guy and fly under the radar, but this is not the time and I want people to know that I own firearms and we will not be easy to rob so move on to easier prey.
Sorry, I thought I had already replied to you. I am honored to have aided you in your decisions. I hope that I can continue to be of use to you as time goes on. Yup, I noted in the video that the optic mount has passthrough ability. It is the default mount that comes with the optic but you can also seek out steel mini-ACOG mounts.
It's evolved since this video but still retains the core simplicity. I'll release an update video eventually you can find photos and discussions on the newer setup on my socials.
@bunnyoperator nice. Keep supporting the 2A. According to a hidden CDC study released via FOIA, guns are used defensively up to 2.5 million times per year, however the so called humanitarians on the left only seem to want to support that data if the defender drops the perpetrator, scaring them off and refusing to find out if the perpetrator means to do them harm doesn't matter in their eyes I guess. Probably won't. I don't intend to setup any new rigs any time soon. Their CrMOV is just another option to their CHF line that I have on pretty much everything. I am sure they perform just as well as the CHF variants.
i just bought their slx 2.5 compact from PA for 160 and was confused on if it came with hardware to mount it to the handle? It doesn't say in the description, but they sell one separately. From videos i've watched, I'm gathering it does have the bolt but not an optimal one; Is that correct? Is the head smaller thus harder to tighten down?
@@UrbanTiger74 Nice. 1x is perfect for that. PA just released a GLx variant with buttons vs illumination dial if you prefer that. If you think you want a little more reach the SLx 3X is a solid performer as well.
love the build bro. Good to know the Primary Arms prisms will mount right into the carry handle, they don't advertise this ability on their website. Might not be the first to say this, but is that bcg a bit overlubed? I am sure it functions fine, but my concern would be, if you ever had to actually take that out and carry it in a dire situation, all that grease/lube would be a serious dirt trap. Just my two cents. Love the build tho.
Not at all. I've tested varying levels of lube in different conditions, and I've found that "excess" lube helps keep the system running after high round counts. If you're running a can lube can burn up quickly, so the thicker stuff stays where it needs to and moves to the areas that are needed once it warms up. I've done this even in very fine sand and the rifles keep going. The thinner oils tended to create more stops after the oil either burns off or moves away from critical areas but once you spray lube back in it'll keep running. It takes a lot of gunk for the action to not run as it should, so much of the cautionary advisement you read regarding "over lubing" isn't backed by evidence but fuddlore. You can also watch the Larry Vickers video where they pretty much dunked an AR into oil as an anecdote. Do also test it for yourself to find that peace of mind.
@@bunnyoperator I saw the one where Vickers did it in response to James Yeager's video about Glocks. It was kind of silly tho, bc Yeager (not that I am a huge fan of his) never said that an abundance of lube will keep a gun from functioning. He stated that, according to Glock's own people, the most common "malfunction" they saw in their guns was situations where far more lube than necessary was used, and then possibly not cleaned again in a while or used in very dirty environments, and the excessive lube turned into a magnet for crap and gummed it up. Supposedly according to Glocks own service people. Vicker's video really didn't do anything to address that or dispel it as an issue, he just proved the gun would run when saturated in perfectly clean oil. Not sure that was a surprise to anyone. Is it REALLY an issue in real world situations? Don't know. Guess we should probably ask military guys who actually carried and used guns in shitty environments to know. Either way, I've just NEVER seen a bcg with that much grease on it, then again I don't really run with the 10k-rounds-thru-a-can-every-3-months crowd either. Carry on, bro.
@@michaelcreekmore9534 Nature of anecdotes for sure. Conditions will alter what is done for use case. Best thing to do is run whatever camp you're in to verify for yourself. If it works keep going until it doesn't. Only way to know. Keep collecting that data, brother. 🤝

There a lot of options ranging in size and material. Look at ARMS, Leupold, or simply search "carry handle rail mount" and see what comes up. If you want direct mount it would be dependent on your optic of choice but there are options.
Try it to see if it works for you. This setup has been in use for a long long time. I've found that as long as the optic eyebox and eye relief is good then you'll be fine.
@@bunnyoperator And My father was in the Army so I'm setting it up practical. For Shtf I'm going with the blue light because blue is the closest resemblance of the moons light. l live in a wooded area and blue light is hard to spot in the trees. White light you would stick out
It's approx 4.5" HOB and there is plenty of adjustment in the topic turrets. It's not a problem and I don't think it's an issue for any optic. Some setups are even higher than this.
Prisms aren't optics you wanna use under NV. Adjusting the diopter to match NV while having enough relief is all kinds of goofing. IF I ran this setup under NV, the optic wouldn't be used at all.
@@bunnyoperator that makes sense. I have one on the gun I plan to use as my main night vision gun, a Sig MPX. But I also have a DBAL D2. So I don't need to rely on passive aiming. 3X is the preferred for this platform for lightweight general use. The 1X left me wanting just a bit more out of the set-up and the BDC was all but useless at 1X. That being said, I've since swapped to a carry handle mounted LPVO to experiment with. If I find that to be overkill then I may swap to the 3X.

You're going to need to zero for the one you use the most and remember the differences in holds when switching to other ammo. You're never going to be 100% zeroed at all times depending on environment and input conditions.
Wanted to start out by saying I just found you and love you builds and content, I am currently going through your podcasts on Spotify while sitting through my long hours operating a loader. I wanted to ask you though, I am in the middle of a 13.7 build and have a centurion arms mid cut rail on the way because I really love the aesthetic of a FSP. But the trouble I have now is I can’t find a front sight block anywhere, centurion arms doesn’t seem to have any on their website and I see BCM sells one but says it needs drilled and I’m not that smart. Any advice on where I can pick one up or do I need to buy a new barrel somewhere that has one already installed?
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad that you've found the podcasts. I figured there are folks who'd prefer listening to conversations that couldn't watch in video format. They'll keep releasing daily until caught up with the series and then new ones will release as they are completed. I recommend that you reach out to Trajectory Arms or Dave Wilson to see if they have any FSBs in stock then send your barrel out for them to properly align, drill, and pin. The alternative is that you acquire a barrel already pinned and use this one for something else but that's your call. Keep me posted, buddy. Reach out through FB, IG, or here.

I dont like the Fixed carry handle with a modern handgaurd it fucks with something in my brain Like using a carry handle on a flat top AR then putting an optic on that handle

I want to do a build similar to this Base model straight CAR-15 clone But with rail attachments to mount a scout light and a laser box Think out Railess P226s have clip on rails accessories out there
Depends on your front end and A5 weight you choose. I can't give you a blanket answer but it's also not something odd like a hydraulic buffer system, so the "reliability" question is confusing. Maybe if you give me a specific scenario I can address it. Out of this specific setup it's been fine.
@bunnyoperator I just ordered a 16-inch midweight/midlength upper from centurian. I'm trying to figure out if I should put the Vltor A5 or standard carbine buffer system on it. Has the Vltor A5H2 been reliable with cycling different types of ammo since it's on your midlength barrel? I've always wondered how the Vltor buffer system does on midlength gas systems that aren't overgassed from the factory
@@trippskits2503 The A5 system really isn't necessary but it is a general upgrade. You're going to be completely fine running a carbine H1 or H2 with standard or Sprinco white, white hot, or blue spring. The A5 really tends to shine during FA or suppressed use but there are still benefits for semiauto use. It's just not a necessary upgrade per-say. If you want to try it then try it. 16 mid from Centurion will probably be compatible with most buffer configs. I would recommend A5H2 for canned/uncanned use. You can try A5H1 for dedicated unsuppressed.
@@KidDynamite2016 I only use mounts with pass-through for irons on these. Transition is easy. I went with a different optic option. Stay tuned for update video or go to my IG/FB for the day-to-day
Have you experienced any failure to extract with this set up? Im running same barrel, a5 buffer but a lantac bcg and have been having failure to extract issues like its just not cycling. Curious if you have experienced any of that.
@@bunnyoperator it fired but didn't extract or double feed. So I was assuming buffer weight. I was using crap ammo that I had laying around from factory range pickups so they could very possibly be the issue as well but all fired just no extraction.
@@bradsmalt3852 Could be the ammo or a combination. Double feed from failure to extract is an indication of short stroking from too little gas or too heavy buffer setup for current gas. Try new, factory standard pressure ammo to see what happens. Your gas system should seal up any small leaks after a few hundred rounds too. If you continue to experience issues you can try a lighter buffer. Double check your gas system while you're at it. It can also be your BCG being not gas efficient or spec issues. Lantac isn't on the list of well-known solid shops. I also don't recommend that you shoot range pick up/unverified ammo. Shit happens and sometimes really bad things happen.
@@bunnyoperator I'm comfortable with the range pickup i use because they come from a specific range and they are all factory but I rarely use them still because the potential for boom. I like the Lantac design but currently on a trial so no real experience with their bcg prior to this, I havent heard of any significant failures regarding lantac though so if you have specific experience id like to hear what yours was/is/ or has been. Seemed like a short stroke because there weren't any double feeds. Thanks for the feedback, I just put this thing together hoping it would run regardless but I may have to alter some things after all. I do have some other bcg's to try as well. Thanks
@@bradsmalt3852 Until you figure out what's going on stick to new ammo to eliminate a variable. Avoid Winchester white box and steel cased also. Lantac BCGs are known to be inconsistent in specs and may not be as gas efficient. That in itself isn't necessarily an issue but when combined with other factors such as lower gas situations via ammo or temperature changes it can affect function. Also if bought the nickel boron variant you're paying a lot for little performance gain and sometimes less performance. Lube needs to stay in critical areas and won't on those let alone nickel boron will chip eventually. Regardless, you have it, so run it. Go through your checking process. Check your gas components to ensure everything is aligned and secured. Run new ammo. If it works you're good. If not swap the buffer out. A5H2 is equivalent to H3 in weight so you can try A5H0 which is equivalent to H1. I'm assuming you're shooting unsuppressed. If that doesn't work then it could be your BCG so swap that out. Anything beyond this requires more in depth checks. You could also ditch the A5 for a normal H1 carbine buffer setup. Every rifle should run with that.

Exactly what I want
@@bunnyoperator Interesting. Yeah man a cantilever mount for the SLx would be tight
Awesome build! Been looking for one of those CAM4FA556 for a long time. Have plenty of the brake version just never bought the birdcage one.
Yea, definitely see more examples of the brake variant than the FH. I don't think I've seen another in person.

I liked your 12 a lot but I also like this one. IDK which to try and mimic.
I'd say to do whichever you feel is best for you. It's your setup, not mine. Use what I do for inspiration but it's unnecessary to "clone" it since what I do may not work for you. Plus I experiment a lot, and as you've seen with my builds they tend to change over time. Good luck!

@@bunnyoperator thanks. Mine is a mid as well. That’s what drew me to ur vids. I have only 1 FSB AR. Have a removable carry handle. Was going retro. But that rail is calling me!! U have a fav carry handle optic? My eyesight SUCKS!!! so although iron sights look cool it’s just not practical. LOL.
Bushmaster 16" Dissipator barrels had CLGS with rifle-length FSB, low profile gas block under the handguards. Is that what you got?
@@LRRPFco52 I take it you're asking @hoonyur5 yea?
Baller setup man.

I don't have direct experience with 6 ARC but I know that @mr_recee on IG, Revival Defense, and Black River Tactical really believe in the round. They are working on a few things, so pay attention to those fellas.

love the build bro.

It's approx 4.5" HOB and there is plenty of adjustment in the topic turrets. It's not a problem and I don't think it's an issue for any optic. Some setups are even higher than this.
What has your experience been using this optic under night vision? Are you able to shoot it reasonably well under NODs despite the horseshoe?
Prisms aren't optics you wanna use under NV. Adjusting the diopter to match NV while having enough relief is all kinds of goofing. IF I ran this setup under NV, the optic wouldn't be used at all.
@@bunnyoperator that makes sense. I have one on the gun I plan to use as my main night vision gun, a Sig MPX. But I also have a DBAL D2. So I don't need to rely on passive aiming.

How reliable has the A5 buffer system been?
@@bradsmalt3852 None. Describe what exactly is happening.
Thanks you my friend! Deleted my last comment because I had no idea my name was visible to all 🤦♂️

Comes with the optic. Details are in the video
Can you still ise irons with it on
Yes. Examples photos in video.
What’s your cleaning regiment?
I don't... Probably whenever I feel like it or when it starts to get more sluggish that extra lube would resolve.
@@bunnyoperator I see
How was the 3x on this build??
I went with a 1-4 LPVO instead
Is it a car-15 clone or m4 clone ?
Neither. Its own thing.
Can you fit a bayonet with that rail on there
Yes, it was designed that way and assuming you're using compatible barrel length and muzzle device.
@@bunnyoperator I'm sold
@@timbogymbro66 Enjoy it, friend.
How do i mount it
I talk about it in the video.
Nice build but holy shit your BCG looks disgusting lol if you dont like to clean it try a nickel boron bcg much easier to keep clean
You should probably research nickel boron failures. It's a pretty lame finish for BCG efficiency. Chrome or NP3 are better options if you want that impregnated lubricity. I'm fine with phosphate, chrome lined combos for my needs.
This fool said nickel boron 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@bunnyoperator I have a 7.62x39 build and a 5.56 both with nickel boron bcgs probably around 5k rounds between the 2 have always ran flawlessly and super easy to clean compared to my old grimey Phosphate bcgs that have had a few hiccups. I'll look into those other finishes never touched em
@@edtronel2955 I'm glad yours are working but it's not a matter of the parts not functioning necessarily. It's for you to understand the flaws of nickel boron, and really the flaws of many of the surface finishes out there.
Dude, you gotta drop the stock and VFG, pin and weld, or get a tax stamp. ATF was at our local range checking for tax stamps. You're going to catch a felony for something stupid.
None of that is accurate. You're assuming a lot about details of a configuration you're not privvy to.
ATF at a range?
@@tghobbies2038 It's fear-mongering. Consider it internet fuddery.
@tghobbies2038 yeah, showed me ID and asked if I had stamps for my stocks and cans. I told him yeah and he asked to see them. I told him he's welcome to stop by the house. He took down my plate. Carson City municipal range. Northern NV.
@@bunnyoperator None of what your wrote above is accurate. The regs are clear and you're a fcking mor0n.
I can accept everything about it, but THIS PISTOL GRIP IS THE WORST.
The K grip is fine but it's not my personal preference. The setup has changed quite a bit since this video. The grip was swapped a TangoDown BG18, which is my fave.
Yeah, no.
😘
Couldn’t get past the gay intro music
@@buff3014 ill play Katy Perry next time. 🤝
Just because it has a carry handle doesn't make it retro.
"Modern-Retro" is in the title. 😂
Nice set up. It’s getting hard to find A1/A2 uppers .
True but they're a lowly coming back. I have a few extra.
What make was your left side magazine release 👍❤️🤍💙
Forward Controls Design. This is the standard model and there is an extended for lefties that need it.
