We live in a world where ARs are under $400 and AKs cost over a grand. If that's not a total 180° then idk what is
I don’t love this comparison because you can find cheap, kinda reliable maybe not so much ak’s for 600ish bucks. The 400 dollar AR is usually not that great either so that would be a better comparison. A zastava m70 is a better rifle than a blem PSA AR.

Agreed. I'm not even shooting much anymore, as much as I want to but the cost of ammo! I'm trying to hold on to the 762 ammo hell even my 556 ammo for shtf. Kinda just do dry fire drills at home 😢
@sorryociffer It's heartbreaking idnt it?

I would add on to final reason 6. I know this is an apolitical channel but the main driving factors for AK’s being expensive 1. Economy sucks in the states right now, whoever doesn’t think the economy is bad is oblivious.
2 Active Foreign Conflicts. Can’t have surplus if all the resources are being used to fight.
Amen brother. Hopefully Trump can end the war in Ukraine and we get a huge wave of battlefield pickup equipment. I can see a bunch of mags coming over, maybe some parts kits. I can also see more polish FB parts coming in eventually as they transition to the Grot. For now though all the surplus they have is likely going to Ukraine. We were insanely lucky to get FB products at all.
Speaking of FB, I think their AK production has likely ceased permanently but I hope I’m wrong. @klayco47
3. embargoes (related to point 2, somewhat). the ammo ban was so bad for us.
Ammo is a problem. It used to be $4 for a box of 20 Tula
The caliber and lack of ammo has destroyed interest in the platform.
Yeah. 7.62 is more expensive than 5.56 now. Why even get into the platform?
thank uncle joe he banned the importation of russian ammo, (40% of all US ammo sales) long before there was a war....
I bought tons of ammo back in 03 for like 3 cents a round that I'm still shooting.
@@djbray7 Me, an intellectual: has a 5.56 AK
Jokes aside 5.56 AKs are awesome. Not at all the same vibe as an AR despite the same caliber and mags aren't even that hard to find these days.
"Why" get into the platform still...? Because AKs are great guns and they offer something different from your average basic AR build that flood the gun community.
A lot of people clearly wish every rifle was just an AR; I like AKs because they aren't. Hell, a lot of us do.
It's funny, back in 2010 my exact reason for buying a Saiga in.223 was because the ammo will always be available state side, and cheap Russian steel.223 ammo was available.
I remember buying my Century Arms for $450 and Saiga’s weren’t much more maybe $600?
@@alh961 my unconverted Saiga was like 350 at the time after taxes and transfer fees.
I think its still an awesome time 🤷 its changed but oh well. surplus was never going to last forever. and i think people should stay off forums, its just a toxic waste pile
I've always liked zastavas. They have done just as good as my other imports. I did have a npap that was probly my least favorite zastava import. But my zpap m70 has been killing it since they first imported. I dont no why people hate on yugo aks. I understand century botched up the early imports but now zastava USA is here they been quality. And they have kept the price the same and havnt went up like the rest. My family from Yugoslavia and still have family there. So maybe I'm a bit biased. People have criticized the fact that they are heavy for no reason and claimed that the metal they use is soft. Supposedly the metallurgy was corrected but who knows.

Love my AK, and I'm only getting more obsessed with them. It will get better.
No, it will not get better. It, in fact, will get worse.
AKs were built to be cheap, reliable, and durable. The charm behind the wood and steel was that while they will never be sub-moa firearms, they hit hard, they hit reliably, and at little cost. Now, to even get a WASR-10, you're looking at a thousand bucks. KUSA went down, Pioneer followed, and our only options now are PSA and the dubious American built Centuries. AKs will always be more exciting and beautiful to me than ARs. But I have to face the facts. For the cost, ARs are far more practical as a duty gun.
This ☝️ is the most rational, but unfortunate truth. I'll still have my AK'S for anything serious but as much as I don't want to, training with an AR is just the reality of it. Good post bud 👍
ARs are 2 or 3 for the cost of an AK. AK Greed has consumed the market just like them $1 Mcdoubles that ain't $1 no more. 😁✌️🇺🇲
Years ago I believe i was watching a mishaco video... the way he explained the process of kalash assembly would eventually become more expensive due to construction. Ars are spit out by cnc machines. Aks are different. Spot welds, bends, rivets, presses and practice/experience. This creates a situation: there are abilities that must be mastered and tools that must be purchased to build a kalash, rather than basic hand tools and surface to work on. That being said, I wait for the day someone makes a sig sg/fn scar style receiver that uses an ak bcg, trigger group & ak mags....

It just blows my mind that an American ammo company hasn't filled the vacuum that's been left after the Russian ammo ban came. You'd think there would be a huge demand for steel case ammo in 5.56 and 7.62X39 and would be a cash cow for a domestic company to produce.

Zastava rocks! Especially now being imported in to Zastava USA! Just stay away from PSA

I’ve felt this way for 7-8 years now. Makes me want to liquidate the cabinets full of surplus Russian mags in my garage and some of my aks with the current prices. The majority of my AK’s just sit and collect dust. I was into AK’s for collecting purposes and anymore I’ve lost the passion for collecting especially with the cost. Let’s face it aks are nostalgic and cool but are lacking in so many ways compared to other modern options. I’ve became more utilitarian and I’d rather just have a quality AR for a go to rifle. Better and much more available ammo options, better ergos, much easier and more accessible to properly set up with modern equipment that will hold zero like optics and IR lazers. Access to replacement parts as well as service in ways more than basic maintenance is much easier for the average person.

Forget about bakelite and circle ten mags. Ain't no one can afford an AK let alone these expensive mags.
I have no interest in buying rifles I can’t pass on to my children. I can’t in good faith pass down a rifle that may maim my offspring. To each his own but my life and my family’s health and safety is worth more than that. I also don’t believe in buying guns I don’t plan on owning forever, personally.
What do you mean that owning an AK for the past ten years would have sucked? Things were cheaper then and easily available, so I’m not following what you’re trying to say.
I do agree there are better choices if you don’t have a lot of money. AR15 mags are $12.
@Yourfavoritesurgeon
It was probably more like 5 years. 2019 The start of the Russian war and ammo ban along with pandemic. At that point 7.62 disappeared off shelves.
Any gun you pass down can maim your children or break.
I'm not saying a 400 dollar PSA is worth it either. I'm comparing the platforms.
With the AK platform you only have a handful of choices that literally you can count on your hands. Which aren't exactly great options either.
Vs AR platform which is almost infinite.
Your money goes a lot further with one of these platforms. Hence this new video.
I agree AK or any gun group is a mean girls click. But does this reflect more on the snowflake generation? Do people really quit something because people say mean words? (thats rhetorical)
The Mean Girls Clique was such a good analogy
Older gun guys can be the biggest snowflakes. They get real upset when you disparage the beloved 1911 or M-14. 😂

People like to talk about AK guys being mean on line, but there’s more to it than that and if you had been around a while you might understand. I can show you AR guys present day that laugh under videos of Kamala threatening to ban firearms imports. They cheer on an import ban and cope that it won’t affect them. To me that’s far worse and actually traitorous compared to going on an AK forum and somebody saying a mean word to you lmao
Dude I think the AK space is just not as simple as it used to be. It definitely does NOT suck owning them though. I bought the best Krebs Custom AKs I could. Rocking the 5.45 KV-13 Mod 2 Vepr and the AC-18 A2 in 7.62. I love those rigs! I’m just friggan glad I invested in them. If I were like a first time AK buyer looking into the market at this time, then YES that would suck! As far as ammo.. don’t forget about what PSA is doing bringing American steel case ammo online 🤙
My positive end note is how great the core Kalashnikov kommunity can be. I have people on my phone that I met through the Kalash Krew that will drop everything to help me if I need it (and vice versa). Friends for life that I only met because of the mutual love for the AK platform.

Although we did lose Zentico for cheap there is KPYK and ME that are alternatives from Ukraine.
I started with the AK back in the late 80s and I will continue to enjoy it.
Buy a 308 ak. Zastava or something. Ammo isn’t cheap but when you pull the trigger it says bang and don’t have to pay 4000$ or whatever like for a modern battle rifle. I live in Finland and just modified a Valmet Hunter to be a ”308 ak”.
Kamala has commented multiple times about banning “”cheap”” foreign weapons. The reason I mess with Aks is resale value. In 2020, peak covid, I had a buddy sell a clapped out npap for 1300, dude literally traded a Wii for it in 2007
You can thank our politicians for this. I probably won't buy a new ak or sks any time soon unless i come across a good deal. Ammo isn't cheap anymore either
I put off getting a kr103 in favor of picking up imports. Because I always thought they would be available. Guess I made the right move. Guess I’ll just convert a Saiga sporter
I got a Fm vepr 74 folding got for 900 bucks when I was working at a gun store now that about 3000k up but guess barely any ammo to shoot thanks to Russian ammo ban.
So glad I started when I did a couple years ago...even though I was too late for the $400 ones, I was able to get all the ones you can't anymore for retail...😊
The 5th reason is what kept me away from AKs 20 years ago. There was too much knowledge required back then. The only reason I have one is I was offered a Krebs Vepr that looked really nice and seemed like a good deal a decade ago.
Love my M70 made it look like a 103, then ammo was kinda getting rough to find awhile back soooo got a 556-223 AK and honestly I’ve been having a blast, PSA has been having some good deals on 223 plus Gun mag warehouse has been having 556 mag’s pretty cheap in my mind $13-14 isn’t hatful. 🤷🏻♂️

This is a great video..... being still kinda new ( only been into em fer bout a year now )... i can relate to everything you just said... mainly the price of everything. You gotta just be you and get what you wana get.... these people on utube all get paid wit free chit that average worker cant afford.... love my ak's tho wud never sell em.... great vid keep em coming
Zastava only!😊
Ak today is like HK it’s keeping the poors away 😂. More for us non poors
Maybe the real friends were the AK’s we owned along the way
For now people will not want AK’s then watch 5 years later it’ll be all anyone wants
I have to agree with your reasoning here! It was so much better in the past!
I took the drugs, and the drugs are working.
Thanks for the information , still love AK’s
I'm finally caving and going to a nato AK.
AK lovers,... bless y'alls heart.
Thank God for WBP
Mine is like the little chubby kid...just want to eat everything.
"death knell" not "death nail"
I still want a FB radom Beryl!!
They’re the highest quality import available currently and for the money I think they’re kind of a steal, considering the state of the market in 2024. Hopefully you can get one while you still can.
@@Yourfavoritesurgeon i might try doing the layaway plan they got available. Def next pay check I will start it. It's basically $500/month from what they advertise
Thoughts on WBP jack?
I’m not Klay, but… Excellent fit and finish, possibly commercial grade parts, still an excellent choice in 2024.
Government is winning when videos like this come out
556 ak supremacy
I just scored 2000 rounds of 762x39 for $600. Deals are still around but they are few and far between. I have been into them enough to be sitting good with my aks and ammo but I do tell anyone that wants to get into them now to buy a 556 ak because of the ammo situation.
@@chadjones2168 yep, it's the only reasonable way to get one now if it's your first ak.
I was around for $80 per K of Chinese ammo…. 😔
I got a lot of Bakelite
Proud I had enough sense to get my ZPAP M90 when they first came out. I am of course keeping my AKM's, husbanding my ammo and hoping 7.62x39 ammo gets more affordable.
I wish you many happy years of marriage. 😂
I’ve never bought cheap 7.62, so it’s the same for me. $9.00 for 20 is about what I can get it for now
I always push friends to build a kit. The options aren’t as good as it used to be but I wasn’t around when that stuff came in so this is what I’ve got
Building a kit isn’t worth it either. The parts kits are worth more than double now and you need to be prepared to pay over 1700 for a mid tier rifle. I love my Yugo parts kit but just obtaining a milled receiver for 500 is ridiculous
🎉👌🏼
Those are all good points. Unfortunately, I would argue the "hostility" towards new users by the community plays a big role. Additionally, for every one nice & helpful guy in the AK community; I can find 5+ for AR/H&K. Yes, I referring to those H&K clones, no they're expensive ASF too.
Thing is for most people it makes more sense to use the AR platform. It is more economical & adaptable. Need something shorter ranged & more bang; use 300 Blackout. Need more range, you can do that too. One big benefit is that AR platform is much friendlier to southpaws (ambidextrous, overall).
All that said, I think that some of the problems with the AK community do overlap with others. One is the price &/or lack of quality domestic production (platforms, accessories etc).
Unfortunately, I don't say this to be political & an asshole. People need to start understanding & paying attention to the policies & agendas of candidates. Frankly, I have never seen a Democrat Candidate who actually supports & defends Individual Rights (1A, 2A etc) over the last 30 YEARS. Something that I would suggest people really start to think about. Remember, if they can undermine/restrict/infringe on 2A; it is absolutely not a stretch for that to happen to the rest.
Red Oktober etc. are gonna be 90% 5.56 and 9mm AKs soon..
Capitalism at it's finest!
I was definitely sad tho I like ak’s but even when they were importing I knew the ar was the way to go. You have so many different ammo choices that can be much better with ballistics. Just don’t get 55gr for an 11.5 and think that’s gonna do it
