🌳 Nice tree. Here is a tip, before you add the hot glue bark, glue strands of unraveled jute twine onto the trunk. When you start to apply and streak the hot glue it basically saturates the strands of twine and draws them into the streaked pattern. It makes a much finer and less-blobby finish.
And I've seen it being used for very realistic ivy too, so that could also be a nice addition somewhere on the trunk, make it look even more ancient :D
Thank you Leslee... this certainly can be scaled down. I needed this pretty large for my campaign but no reason you can make a bunch of smaller ones :)
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT your welcome .Any chance of you showing us how to make a spooky funfair ghost Train in future.I know it's not d&d or medieval etc but there are a lot of model train hobbyists out there?❤️
I know this video is old now, but it's perfect for what I needed, my party are fighting a dessicated dryad who's been warped by the Plane of Fire, so I wanted to make a giant dead tree and the early stages of these instructions are ideal for that.
A tree like this could look really good with a door and some little four-pane windows in (and a surprisingly colossal interior). Great place to live for a druid who likes being raided weekly.
What an amazing project! And for future glue burns: immediately crack an egg in a bowl or flat plate and put your hand in the egg white (remove egg yolk or don’t disturb it) Leave your hand in the egg white for about 10 minutes and I guarantee you, the pain will go away and your skin will not blister! It’s nature’s amazing trick.
Amazing! Truly the best tree build I’ve seen! And cost is low and fun, creativity and imagination looks to have no limits ! This was placed in my favs folder! Thank you for an amazing fun video
@@wildbillsworkshop3410 I would prefer skill over effort. Sadly you can have effort without skill and effort with skill but not skill without effort :/
Agree with John, they are easy if you have the patience, for the gluing, e.g. However, that’s about $30 worth of supplies. It’s reflected in the quality but can be daunting if you needed a forest. Poly fibre is great for vines & moss when it’s stretched to an almost imperceptible thinness. Have you tried these trees with a thinner layer under the clump foliage? It would probably still hold the clumps like a mesh. For a ‘fantasy tree’ though, the carpet coverage works well. 👍🏻👍🏻, as usual
great video, nice trees! When painting on top of the hot glue a great primer to use is a 50/50 mix of PVA glue and wall spackle. It takes paint really well and dries with a slight flex so that it won't crack over time.
I have been wracking my brain for a few weeks trying to figure out how to foliage-up some bare plastic trees a friend found in his attic from who-knows-when. This video helped me find the right techniques and materials! Thanks!
Great job! One tip: paper towel painted onto the foil with thinned PVA glue would have saved you a LOT of glue and - being wood based - naturally dries to look like bark.
What a great build. Plus, a nice video to change things up a little. I really like the mushrooms, they pop big time. I also like the bird placement, it seems real. One always drinks while the other is on guard...lol
For thick trunked trees this is the best way to DIY them. Run the tip of a hot glue gun through the blobs of applied glue after it’s become solid and it perfectly applied a vertical bark texture. Looks great so far after my second cost of mod podge and black paint.
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT this honestly solved an issue where I was trying to make DIY trees on a really cheap budget. All I’m using is a 3 inch XPS foam stump, part of a square of tin foil, and a few glue sticks. Almost nothing!
@@aqualust5016 Way to be resourceful! I’m glad the video helped. Check out my spider diorama for some cool additions using the same method to some swamp stumps.
Looks great! Two things though. 1 - putting green-stuff on to a painted surface can easily break/fall off. Superglue would help but it's still on a painted surface, which can crack/chip off. 2 - as an alternative to hot-glue, you could try over-bake sculpt clay, it's usually pretty cheap. Depends what's cheaper, glue or clay. Great ends result :)
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT I'm picking up some aluminium wire in different sizes to do the same sort of builds. This is exactly what I was looking for so I can paint my hollow logs I'm making! And I know it's a bit of an old video but one thing I did after hot gluing the bark texture onto a paper towel roll, I got some watered down wood glue and glued pieces of tissue paper (the kind for gift wrapping) to it with a cheap paint brush.
