I love how you keep working on improving your techniques, never resting on your success. Long may your success continue. Thanks for the continued inspiration. It helps people beyond simply inspiring their modelmaking and railway layouts. Merrick
oh wow thanks Merrick, really appreciate such kind words 😃 I'm making these trees for an Alaskan river scene that I'm working on, planning to have salmon swimming upstream with a grizzly bear doing some fishing, should be a full little scene 🐻 I wish you success with your channel as well, I saw you video that went viral! It was amazing! Keep up the hard work, you're doing awesome!
Watching this again for a current tree project I'm doing. I reckon it took you two hours to make the tree and ten hours to land the bottle in the airbrush cup.
I didnt see that little guy at all because i was amazed how great those trees looked. I have been a modeler for 59 years but i only thought i wanted to run the trains on. But you take it to a whole nother level. Thank you for the instructions that you give on the making and coloring its so great
Yes, found all seven. I had to watch this tutorial several times because I was so busy finding Wally, I missed the actual tutorial. Your attention to detail is second to none...and I'm none! No seriously, another great tutorial Luke. I look forward to these. Great job, very lifelike.
I'm definitely going to do a desert scene at some point. I had some plans but it probably won't be for a little while, was thinking of making a model of a desert oasis 🌵
Hey, Luke! I REALLY enjoyed seeing your process for pine trees! They are the most realistic I've ever seen in my 58 years, given the relatively quick build time per tree for the results! I like to model New Hampshire "White Mtn Pines", that grow in the region of New England I grew up in. I model in N scale, so, thank you so much for the N "heads up" sizes you gave...very helpful to avoid the experimentation session. N.H. White Pines when growing together in a group, tend to lose their lower branches when mature as a result of "tufting out" the sun from their lower sections. They grow so close together, their upper branches block the sun. I've driven by cut back areas and seen up to 55 or so % missing branches from the lower portions! All you see are the stubby dead branches, just as you've modelled. On the outside of the stands, fuller trees get more sun, and look more like yours, knowing this, I will be able to save much time in the middle of any forest(s) I need, spending more time on the "perimeter trees", yet still being "correct" in the middle stands. I was so intently learning this process, I not once saw a single "wally", except the first that doesn't count!!! When I get more available time this evening, I'll have another look. Thus far, I have not seen anyone outside the periodicals MRailroader, etc... Who is so open about sharing their processes publically and "free". I totally appreciate you, sir, and feel if you're not already, should be awarded a "Master Model Railroader" Award for not only your awesome results, but you're sharing of your processes. Growing up, I always dreamt of having at least one on my wall...eventually, I hope to earn one! Keep going, there are many young ones trying to perfect what you're teaching them- especially ME! 👍💖😎
yeah I think you could make these trees in N scale quite well and they would look just as good. I'd love to one day get a MMR certificate! I should look up what the requirements are and start working towards getting one 😃 Keep up the hard work, I'm sure you'll achieve one and have fun building the N scale version of these trees, they will look fantastic I'm sure!
I couldnt see Wally at all... all I saw was your beautiful work and you... I guess I was too focused.. admittedly this is the best tutorial for these pine trees I've ever seen
So first time I didn't see him because I was busy looking at a tree. Second time round, I saw him 3 times, but a tree constantly captured my attention...!
Thanks John, there are heaps of pine tree tutorials on UA-cam and they all have their place 😃 These take a while t make but they do look great in a bunch
@@BoulderCreekRailroad I have watched all of your tree making tutorials but I think this one is the best for pine trees. I like the fact that you use readily available materials from the hobby shop or online.
Watched it about 8 times back to back until my eyes hurt 😂 but yes! Found them all! Thank you Luke Towan you are an inspiration for me as I have just started my own model railroad! (Been wanting to do this since I was 6 or 7 years old, and I’m 36 now)
Your tree turned out very realistic! The grouping looks like a perfect stand of pines. First time watching and like others did not even think about looking for the little man.
For some reason I didn't get the notification on this one, so the prizes have already been awarded but for me the real prize was being able to watch you use your incredible skills! Thanks for that Luke! I did find all 7 but it took 4 trips through the entire video to get them all. Fun way to spend nearly an hour watching the same video over and over and learning more each time. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Andy, yeah the definitely turned out looking quite good... I reckon they would look great on some of the military model dioramas you've been working on 😉 they are really easy to scale for the larger scale models.
I'm a simple man; I see a new Luke Towan video, I watch. Great quality of effort with editing as well as attention to detail for actual projects. Well done dude.
Wow, I've seen a lot of tree techniques but these trees are by far the best. Very realistic. I love that last shot with the forest and the brown, dry ground typical of pine forests. Thanks for sharing.
I would never have the patience to do this but if I got in an exhibition of these dioramas they would have to dart me and drag me out at the end of the day. Fascinating details.
How lovely to find this video ready to view with my morning coffee! Though as it iwas my first cup, I was in no condition to spot Wally - even ONCE! But that in no way detracted from my enjoyment of watching you create...........I always find your finished products amazing. There is no wonder that your videos are some of the most recommended when viewing OTHER diorama builder's channels! Thanks, mate!
lol... yeah you don't want to be stressing out trying to find Wally too early in the morning 😉 Glad you enjoyed the video and it's good to know others are also recommending some of my videos and techniques, thanks George
Outstanding work, those trees really look the part! 10 times more realistic then the store bought stuff but when you put *that* much effort into something, the results show! Time to make some trees!
Luke I hope you continue to make videos for the rest of my life. You are a gift to the hobby community. I always enjoy your videos, they are so calming and informative all at the same time. Hope to meet you one day as I’m a fellow Aussie.
Yeah true, these are good close up trees. For the trees that would be further in the background you could probably use some cheaper eBay trees and it will still sell the effect 😉
I love your techniques. Pine Trees were a bane for me in time, as well. I used a similar technique with a fine gauge wire at the top and mixed in slightly larger gauge wires as I went down the trunk, and using mostly the larger gauge wires towards the bottom. However, I'm totally using the static grass next time. Looks SO much better from your tutorial.
First, It was so mesmerizing to watch you create this tree! Second, Great tactic on getting more views on your videos!!! That's ingenious!!!! Third, I did go back and watch the video again to find Wally and only found him 5 times and I was on Mission " FIND WALLY". Finally, I will now go back yet again and watch the video again and again until I find him 7 times! Great Video!!!
I think Wally checked out the place behind Luke, and after hopping aboard the train Wally went on a holiday.😎 I lived in the Pine Barrens, New Jersey so learning how to do the PINE TREES was way more important to me. Besides, if subbed here we're already winners because Luke is such a good teacher and we get to learn so much. 👻🖑
I really love your builds and your dioramas Sir ! Looking forward to your next diorama. And I missed every Wally... but I now I have another reason to look again.
Best model videos on UA-cam hands down! Would be really awesome to see you do a snowy scene, snow covered trees, iced rivers and lakes etc Tackling a Christmas diorama soon and if I'm going to take anyone's advice it's yours!
These are great looking trees you have made and a great instructional video. For my large mountain layout, which I will need many hundreds of trees, I will have to limit the great looking trees to the foreground as I don't think i would have time to make 300 to 400 of these. Your trees are by far the best I have seen. Well done. Philip
These are amazing trees. I’m giving it a try and just need to say that they are time consuming. I wasn’t having much luck with the pins and extra dowel at the bottom. I think I would just make the trees longer next time and cut them after they’re finished. I couldn’t find the larger gauge wire and that’s a must if you want to push them into the dowels. I ended up making a small hole for each wire. I went through several cans of adhesive spray for about 20 larger trees. 10”-23”. There is definitely a skill set to getting the static grass on the wires and not on the trunk. You make it look easy! 😆
Amazing work and a test for human patience! I didn't even have the patience to review the video more than a second time, to look for Wally! Found it once, though :-)
Thanks Luke, what a stress relieve, been nurturing baby night and day
this one is really a soup for dad's soul
lol... enjoy the down time 😉

Trains and Dioramas , oh wow! 3 of my favorite You Tubers communicating. It must be some sort of cosmic sign.
Norman I’m nowhere close to Luke and Merrick, these guys are legends! But I am really glad to be one of your favourite UA-camr. 😎
Unbelievable... I will never not be amazed by the craftmanship and creativity of terrain builders.
“So I don’t stab myself” is one of my main reasons for doing most things, glad to find a kindred stabby spirit.
A tree how to after a while! Loved it. Trees are now an obsession for me as well... it makes such a difference when you have a highly detailed tree.
lol... I know! I love making trees! They make the biggest difference to the overall scene 😃
Watching this again for a current tree project I'm doing. I reckon it took you two hours to make the tree and ten hours to land the bottle in the airbrush cup.
8:08 - 25 minutes to make the tree, 2 weeks to get that shot.
lol... not far off!
Thanks for sharing this, Luke Towan 🕊 conifer trees 🌲 are a wonder of the world! You’ve nicely captured their ‘quirkinesses’
Nice shot with the vallejo into the pot ;)
