LMNT Electrolytes VS Liquid IV *Honest Review*

- Today we'll be comparing two of the major players in the electrolyte drink category: LMNT and Liquid IV. Which tastes better? Which is better for you? This review is my complete honest take on the two products, the video is not sponsored in any way. Enjoy!
Thank you for an uncomplicated and unbiased opinion of these products. It helped me.
Love this video! Thanks for the unbiased opinion!
I think it is important to mention the difference between everyday electrolyte drinks (such as these, BPN electrolytes, traditional nuun, etc) and liquid endurance fuels (such as most gatorades, tailwind, G1M, nuun endurance, etc). In an electrolyte drink, you'd be looking for products that support overall hydration (electrolytes, mainly sodium) without the added carbs/calories, while endurance fuels are focused on replenishing both glycogen stores (carbs) as well as electrolytes to support higher intensity sports and activities. A video like this comparing some endurance fuels could be fun!
Thank you Elijah for making these videos. It’s nice to have an unbiased opinion from someone who excels at running!
Thanks man!
This video was very helpful. I suffer from a rare disease that dehydrates me. So about every 2 months or so, I have to go into the hospital & get an IV. Staying hydrated is literally a chore for me & the “Liquid IV” has been helping me cope with my situations better than most electrolyte drinks. I really appreciate this video, thanks ✌🏾
You got this! Glad you’re staying on top of it and taking care of yourself.
Did the doc call your rare disease capillary leak syndrome?
I ordered Liquid IV as a recommendation from a friend who’s going through Chemo and she said it helps tremendously as chemo dries us out. Thank you for the review
How you hanging in there? Wishing you all the best
❤
Hope your friend is doing well and recovering. During any battle with health, sugar so especially added sugar should be avoided at all cost. Sadly Liquid IV main first ingredient is sugar. Booo
🙏
Great video, nice with some honest reviews and glad to have you back, I always look forward to your videos every friday.
Thanks! I’m back to every Friday :)
Thank you for a helpful and unbiased review. Appreciate the time you put into this. Have had both, not a fan of either for various reasons. I actually go with the “C” option..😊 re-lyte by Redmond Salt. I feel they have a nice balanced profile of minerals as well as good flavors. My favorite are the strawberry lemonade and pina collada. Also have the unflavored and mix and match. Just my two cents into the debate. 😊
I loved the review. Thank you.
Nice honest review, jog on mate!
Your absolute legend for turning down a paid promotion for our gain! Thank you!
I had never heard of LMNT until you covered it tonight. I’ll def check it out when I see it next. I’ve had easy access to the LIV so I’ve been doing that one for the last 9,000 miles. You’re a super rad guy and seem very authentic so I’m gonna research you some more.
*** I’d be interested in IF you do gels, chews or goos ala Honey-Stinger and the like etc.
All the best bud, see ya around!
Love watching your channel! What you think about the BPN electrolytes? I’ve tried the other two and taking The BPN at the moment.
Thank you for your honest review! I have tried liquid IV and found it to be ok, not much difference though than Gatorade as far as the electrolytes and results from drinking it. Haven’t tried the other yet but I may, I don’t do long runs but rather long walks and weights for now.
Thanks for the honest review! You can always go for the plain LMNT, it has no stevia in it. 👍
I recently tried the unflavored LMNT and it literally tastes like ocean water to me. I ended up increasing the water and adding a little bit of flavor packet of Liquid IV to it. Lol
@@stephanies3862 I bet! 😂 think I’d probably mix it with my BCCAs, usually throw a pinch of salt in there anyway.
Great review and I'd say pretty dead on from a flavor perspective based on what I've tried. I'm more of a Gatorade with added sodium citrate guy myself but these are both good premium brands if you want to try them.
Great Vid Elijah! I like them both......but slight edge to Liquid IV
Thank you for your honest review! Wish I can see more guys acting like you!!! Well done! God Bless!
Just found you and subscribed! Great video!
excellent review !
LMNT has been my goto and my favorites are the Chocolate, Chocalate Mint , Chocolate Caramel and Chile Mango. You have to try these!
Great video Ty!
Now we need to see a nuun review next!
Thanks just discovered this product now have to choose.
I've been eating zero carb for 3 months now. I originally had LMNT and felt great! I decided to try Re-Lyte after my LMNT ran out. Redmonds sells excellent salt but I can say now that their electrolyte mix doesn't compare to LMNT.... Lmnt sent me a sample thank you pack and I just drank down some water with it about an hour ago. I felt a boost of energy within 20 minutes. I'll be buying more LMNT though I prefer unflavored. Thanks for the honest review. To be fair, though, Redmonds is changing their formula now so their new Relyte may be better.
I'm doing carnivore and tried the Redmonds I really liked it , had the sample pack and couldn't really tell the difference in flavors. The Gatorade zero , some of the flavours are so so bad some are ok where I live they are about 1$ each so much much cheaper then the lmnt or the redmonds
Have you tried G1M Sport? My fav has been Liquid IV but I’m always a fan of BPN products so thinking of giving it a shot
Been using all of the flavors of Liquid I.V. for 5 or 6yrs. Use it year round, on the both multiple hour mtb rides, and multi-hour trail runs. It's also what we use on our annual R2R runs and Rim2River runs in the Grand Canyon. I add 2 magnesium pills (Magnesium Lysinate), broken in half, to a 21oz Camelbak soft flask, and for the big runs or rides, I add a tiny B complex pill. Previously used Cytomax for probably 10yrs until they change the formula. Have also tried Tail Wind, and Genius Electrolytes. I don't get people's distain for sugar being in a hydration mix. "You're" asking the body to do some sort of strenuous work, it needs what it needs at the cellular level, both for muscle function, and brain function. Fuel it!
i too ride multi hour mtb rides and use liquid iv.. it very hot and humid in the NE , it's a life saver..adding magnesium sounds interesting..does it upset your stomach at all? i have terrible leg cramps now and then too...
@@jasoncapecod The key to magnesium supplementing, is using a high quality version. It's the low quality stuff that often gives digestion issues and diarrhea...so taking magnesium cures constipation really well. To answer your question, magnesium lysinate won't give you any issues and it will cure your leg cramps. It'll dull the flavor of the Liquid I.V., so be aware of that. But you're "fueling" as a tool for better performance, and not for "enjoyment of a beverage" so it shouldn't matter. I buy "Doctor's Best" brand from Ama z0n, but that doesn't mean it's the best choice for you. I take it as a supplement, plus use it in the electrolyte mix. You can learn more about magnesium and why it's so crucial, why so many people are deficient in it, and what that causes, on Dr. Carolyn Dean's website.
Thanks for the great response
@@jasoncapecod You're welcome. I hope you see improvement in the leg cramps. I went through a phase in 2019 where I was getting them really badly on our long runs. It was murder. Like; be stopped on the trail, not be able to move, let alone even be able to walk, and yet still have an hour or more of run time to get back to the car. I changed to liquid IV, GU Roctane, and started eating more avocados (high in potassium). Haven't had any since. I also keep my calcium intake low, and from plants only. I stopped eating dairy in 2012, including buying foods that have it in as an ingredient. Quite a positive change in health, in about a month or so after stopping dairy.
I’m not sure why people who do strenuous activities are even half worried about sugar, it literally becomes your friend, do people not know what muscle glycogen is?!?!?!?!? I thought people were educated?!?!?!?
I see that enagic kangen machine back there rareee sighting 💪🏾
LMNT was a game changer for me. I lose a lot of salt when I sweat….added potassium and magnesium helped as well. Nothing seemed to hydrate me as much as the LMNT’s drink. I’ve tried so many hydrating drinks and always went back to my LMNT’s. 🥰
I went from using Liquid IV (Lemon/Lime and Grape flavor mostly) to LMNT (Citrus flavor) and tend to drink more water with the latter. Liquid IV (even the new non sugar version) is too sweet. LMNT having less ingredients is also a plus.
You had me at long distance runner and marathoner. I did one marathon (barely) and have been training three years (8 now) since to give it another go! (came back and updated this on 7/4/23)
Honestly, with reviews like this, they act more of a basis of conversation; and it is in the comments that you really learn overall sentiment.
LMNT is a solid product.
I was getting little headaches when riding snowboards in Tahoe and after trying with and without the LMNT I can say it works.
No headaches after drinking an LMNT

GOAT!
The sodium to potassium ratio in LMNT makes me feel better. When I’ve tried other hydration productions like liquid IV that have less sodium but more potassium it makes me feel funny. Also, my favorite flavors of LMNT are the chocolate salt and watermelon salt.
That's interesting. I supplement my electrolyte sources with potassium as it is, so it isn't like Liquid IV is incorrect with boosting it. I guess it all depends on how hard you're hitting when doing cardio.
The human body has a natural 3 to 1 ratio of sodium to potassium. That is the proper ratio for a hydration product.
I feel like you need more potassium if you're not a heavy sweater or if you're not doing sports. Sodium is essential if you're sweating
I love the LMNT so much omg I just got it today and it actually tastes good. The citrus one.
Looking for an electrolyte drink and really appreciated your unbiased opinion. Think I'll give the LMNT a try. Not a fan of sweet drinks.
I like the orange salt I made the mistake of dumping it all in a sparkling s. pellegrino bottle and it immediately overflowed😂 still good though and did remind me of orange soda
Liquid IV is best for me. It is sweeter, but I tend to add less and it still works best for me.
Thank you!
"AXTRACT" haha. Thanks for the comparison, liquid IV it is for me.
Nice video, off topic but what chain is that?
Thanks for your review. Very helpful! One thing I've noticed, is that electrolyte drinks with added B6 and B12 actually causes the kidneys to remove the extra B6/B12 and necessarily removes water in the urine. So, these drinks with B6/B12 can actually cause dehydration. One time, I drank a different electrolyte product supplemented with B6/b12 during a several hours desert hike. I drank a ton, but the more I drank the thirstier I got. And I could tell it was the B6/B12 because I was peeing the B vitamin yellow. What do you know about this or experienced this?
Would you mind doing a review/ comparison on Protekt Hydrate?
Can you also review DRIP DROP ORS I would love your feed back on it
Thanks for reading out loud for us and proving that it totally doesn't matter ...
Thank you 🤍👍🏻
I have to recommend something that I found more hydrating than anything readily available in stores. It’s called Electral, and I first had it while suffering from dehydration due to food poisoning in India. According to the label, it’s formulated to the World Health Organization’s recommendations for dehydration. One packet is good for 1 liter and is less than $1/packet.
👍👍 for turning down 💰 in favor of an honest review 💯
I have recently switched to the Loquid IV from Drip Drop, and I am so glad I did it. The results I think are very good I just can't stand the taste of the lemon-lime personally it calls for the entire packet but it makes the water so sobring ⁵in flavor that is almost too much . In my opinion you could mix 1 stick with a gallon of water. I know they have other flavors that tastes much better this was just a discount box from Sam's Club and only had one flavor in it. I think it's a bit pricey but at Sam's Club you can get 30 of them for $25 which is a good deal compared to buying the smaller boxes
Id look for an alternative. I dont see why people would drink something that the first and main ingredient is sugar....
I cannot stand the taste of any fake sugar. The aftertaste is a turnoff and I feel like I just licked a metal pole. Leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. I'd rather get foods with vane sugar over the fake stuff anyway.
Today I just purchased some Liquid IV because I'm severely dehydrated and wanted something to flavor the water. I do agree at first tasting, the water is really sweet. It's too much product for a tiny bottle. Anytime I drink.somwthing super sweet, I dilute it with more water to cut it.
I'm going to try this with double the water and see how it tastes. I will also add some kosher salt for a boost of sodium. Other wise, I like the taste of it and will definitely bring some for an up coming cruise. Thanks so much for your help.
Nice! Been getting liquid iv just cause of cost at Costco.
What happens if you mix both?
I use Trace Minerals TMSPORTS 40,000 Volts Electrolyte Concentrate. One tsp per serving, Servings per bottle = 48 tsps. Purchased through Fullscript. Very effective during fasting. Prescribed by my Naturopathic doctor.
What do you think, are these products worth the cost?
I suffer from POTS and need sodium and electrolytes daily in my diet. I absolutely love all of the flavors of LMNT and especially the salty taste. Since starting it however I’ve had a very bad stomach. Perhaps this is from the stevia as you mentioned. How long did it take for your upset stomach to go away from stevia? I haven’t tried liquid IV yet, but not sure if that is best with the sugars if I have 2 a day.
Try the raw LMNT, I prefer that to the others for intermittent fasting.
For me drinking both LMNT and IV Hydration I need to have at least 32 oz of water to put them in because for me, LMNT is way too salty and Liquid IV is way too sweet. So as long as I put them in a big container of water I can drink them both. I'm a school teacher and use to come home at least 2 days a week with bad migraines with nausea and vomiting at times. As soon as I started taking the Liquid IV while at work in my water the migraines have stopped. But I'm now experimenting with LMNT now
I agree. I have a 64oz growler, 1 package of LQ IV is more than enough. 32oz s still a little too much. But besides that. I'm drinking a lot more water, so even if the product isn't really helping. The water is going down more than ever.
Yeah, I’ve had both and just finished a whole box of LMNT but my favorite way to drink it is mixed with a 40oz bottle as it gives just the right amount of flavor without the heavy salt taste. I prefer the salty taste overall but liquid IV is also good
Please tell us how LMNT is doing for you concerning your migraines!! Interesting! Thank u .. very helpful
@caroljaymes3880 I stopped drinking it. I couldn't take the saltiness. Also the migraines have since stopped on its own. And I haven't had issues since, so I'm not even sure what was causing them.
@@stephanies3862 thank u for taking the time to answer…
So I am going to start work as a mechanic, I tend to sweat a lot in general. Would any of these be a good recommendation to drink through the day? Maybe in the middle? Or would it be best to just drink a lot of water through the day. I tend to drink 1.5-2 gals a day at work. I feel like it’s not enough lol. Any guidance would be appreciated
LMNT tastes fantastic unfortunately too much sodium and my blood pressure went sky high..So much I ended up in an ER
Guess I dont need as much sodium.
To give them credit they conducted their study on effectiveness scientifically. If you think about it when they test medications it’s usually a blind placebo not a comparison with a similar medication.
Liquid IV seems to serve well with me. I don’t use it all the time but on a equatorial hot Florida day it gets me through
I have used lmnt I like it. They have other great flavors. I have also used nuun and notice no difference in how they work
Salty crew! BPN electrolytes are my favorite I've tried to far. wasn't a huge fan of the sweetness of liquid IV
What about Skratch? I think it tastes better than all of these. I don’t know it’s effectiveness and whether it counts as an electrolyte drink.
Im glad i watched this first. I dont care for Stevia sweeten drinks, stevia taste like medicine to me. Ill stick with liquid IV, but i add mine to 32 oz of water.
Raspberry flavor from element is the absolute best one. I hate I took a chance and bought the citrus one last month.
Try performance tea, Dave Proctor who just ran across Canada in 68 days (7159kms) uses it.
The high salt is great for my daughter who is diagnosed with Pots /Ehlers. She needs salt everyday!!
Only need 1/2 stick per bottle of the LMNT
Bro thank you for the honesty. But get your paper Bo Bo
What is your go to for electrolytes as of right now?
I used to take liquid iv as per it tasted great . But also , LMNT is the way to go. Yeah it might be salty but , you're only taking it for the benefits , it’s not supposed to be sweet .
Where did you get your chain from?
I have tried LMNT and while I really like it...the flavor is a bit strong...but I don't get the leg cramps after a run like I used to.
They have an unflavored version! You could add in stevia flavored drops to flavor how you want - that's what I do for a coffee flavor or vanilla flavor sometimes :)
Also, you can dilute it in a larger container of water OR use only 1/2 pack per glass.
I just ordered a small sample pack of LMNT - I will come back here after I try them! - I have never taken any electrolytes at all before - just drink a lot of water by itself - so I’m curious to see!
How were they?
Liquid IV tastes better, more sweet. Good for an off day or just chilling. LMNT I feel performs better, more mineral content. Necessary for a hot garage/outdoor workout. Both use stevia 🥴
These little packet salt things are such a bad deal unless you only need one bottles worth at a time. If you want to use them in a 3 liter bladder while hiking the cost starts going crazy for what they tell you to use per liter. I find tub options like Re-Lyte Mix (another natural zero sugar electrolytes mix) and stuff to be a better option. It takes up less room in my bag, as well having 50-75 servings (depending on brand) in a small tub instead of all the packets. I don't understand why all the backpacking and hiking channels push LMNT or Liquid IV so hard when it doesn't make sense for packing in a bag or price per serving for long term use. I mean for runners LMNT and Liquid IV smaller size servings make sense but not for long distance hikers and backpackers.
I mix my lmnt pack with 32oz water. My fav flavor is mango 🥭 chili🌶️. 😋
Should I drink a pack daily even tho I’m not on keto?
I started an infrared sauna 5 times a wk and after a month I realized really bad cramps so I started the LMNT and it was great in taste and amazing relief on the cramps but after taking it for a month my kidneys started bothering me.
You seemed to just end the conversation after you said your kidneys started bothering you…. Sooooo, do u think it was bc you were taking LMNT or what do u think it was?? Please let us know… did u go to the dr and get checked out? You left me with many questions.
I wish Liquid IV had a unflavored option. I’ve been taking the Raw Unflavored LMNT and I’ve been enjoying it.
Have you noticed a difference (in a good way) with your body since using LMNT?
this guy is too underrated
Appreciate it man!
Hate that the liquid IV doesn't include magnesium but love that it has real sugars. I really need sugar pre and post lifting. Disappointed that the LMNT has stevia because I hate the taste of just about any sweetener that isn't real sugar so I wouldn't like that aftertaste. All sugar substitutes taste too sweet to me and also have an aftertaste. Hate that I have to miss out on magnesium and higher salt because of that. Might have to just add some magnesium and sodium to the liquid IV.
Let me know if you find an electrolyte blend containing magnesium potassium and sodium please🙏
@@nazfx2648 so far I've found Bucked Up IV. Has 50mg magnesium, 400mg potassium, and 400mg sodium. I like that it has at least as much potassium as sodium though I wish potassium was higher than sodium but I think that's probably asking too much with the way products are formulated and marketed right now lol. It also has stevia which I don't like the taste of but hey, can't have it all I guess lol. But it also has 10 grams of real sugar which I like from a performance standpoint.
@@cdubb6983 great thanks man. I also wish there was a perfect formula like you said😅
Hey everyone, :) Would Liquid IV be good for someone who doesnt work out a whole lot but I walk and sit a lot for my office job? I notice that im dehydrated because I drink ONE 25ounce cup off coffee in the morning and barely finish 1 bottle of water while at work "because i dont feel thirsty" and i usually dont eat until 1pm, or sometimes eat nothin till i get home and then when i get home maybe ill get 2 bottles of water in me. I can feel the effects of not drinking enough water, my digestion is a little rough, my skin is really dry, my Muscles get sore a lot easy, and my feel cramp fast. So long story short, Would Liquid IV be good for someone like me?? I cant stand if something is TOO Salty or TOO sweet though. :/ Thank you all for taking the time to read my comment.
Are you drinking these cold? Tried these at room temperature. Ugh. Must be ice cold.
My favorite is the Liquid IV in the Concord grape flavor. It may have more sugar but if I mix something and won’t drink it, then what good is that? JMO, But I actually enjoy the Grape flavor.
Agreed. Im gonna have to try the one you recommended. Taste does matter lol. Thank you
Which is better for muscle cramps? Lmnt has worked great this past year but it appears to be tapping off as far as how effective it used to b?!
How can you tell that it isn’t as effective as it used to be?
QUESTION…. Why not just add Pink Himalayan Sea Salt in your bottled water instead of either of these products???
Try Jump Electrolyte Powder Mix - no carbs sugar
LMNT Chocolate is my favorite!
Ha- I like the tshirt- very appropriate.😀
If the RDA for potassium is 3,000 -4,200 MG, how is 200 MG doing you any good? Are you drinking 15 packets a day of this stuff?
I’m worried about the amount of sodium in lmnt, I’ve read many reviews that people love the brand. Is 1000mg of sodium going to make me gain weight or have high blood pressure? Can someone educate me?!? I’m new to drinking electrolyte drinks. I don’t want sugar added.
Try the snake juice packet electrolyte
LMNT is way cleaner ingredients by a long shot & more gut friendly. The first 2 ingredients of IV are inflammatory & gut - irritating to many . (Pure Cane Sugar, Dextrose) are always a no- no in any ingredient lists on food or Electrolyte drinks. Again, not everyone is as gut sensitive and hyper vigilant, but even so, I’d still go with cleaner ingredients. The less ingredients, the better.
Also, it’s pronounced “element,” not “element-y.”
😅
I think, though, that he wasn’t pronouncing it elementy but saying the letters LMNT. I didn’t know it was “element” either until after watching their product video🤷♀️😂
Liquid IV also uses the synthetic version of B12 called Cyanocobalamin that just so happens to be part CYANIDE! Look it up. I would rather they use methylcobalamin for their B12 which is the form found in nature.
I gotta try element aka LMNT.
What about Dr bergs
What do you think of the Gatorade powder?
Honestly for the value it’s pretty tough to beat. May not have the healthiest ingredients overall but I think it’s a solid choice if you don’t wanna have to go with the premium brands
@@elijahorr thanks for honest opinion, love your videos. Runner like yourself.
Wish you went over prices
$1.50 a stick is salt and sugar really that expensive now?
