As someone that is in the medical profession with a focus on nutrition and musculoskeletal wellness, I can say this woman has it right with not only the proper electrolytes that you don’t get in most sports drinks, but also the quality of the electrolytes themselves. Magnesium glycinate is the easiest and most readily available for the body to use and you don’t see many highlighting the importance of the quality of the electrolyte. Bravo 👏🏼

Science, biology, and evidence disagree with you.
Perhaps MAYBE if soil depletion and glyphosate weren't a thing then eating vegetables wouldn't be SO unhealthy, but even then they still contain ANTI-nutrients, plus animal products are just VASTLY more nutritious.

Such as adipic acid extracted from beets/beet juice (not to be confused with the cancer causing adipates) -- and which is used in things like baking powder, unflavored gelatin, and other standard powdered baking products. G'day Mary. The UA-cam algorithms decided to show me this video and I'm so glad it did. I was relieved to find out that the ingredients are actually easy to find and I don't need to spend a fortune on them. I have SIADH which is a health issue where my body just does not keep the sodium I give it. So I generally have one electrolyte drink a day, typically at bedtime and that works for me. But it's also expensive and I'd really like to stop buying the plastic drink bottles these drinks come in. The exercise electrolyte powders are expensive to buy too, so your recipe is just good common sense. I can take care of my health issue while saving approximately $60 a month. That's a lot back in my pocket! Thank you! I noticed the HEB logo somewhere in this video - oh my goodness, you're in Texas! My son lives in Houston. I live in Australia and I last visited in 2019. Hello all. I tried this recipe for a few months. Taking 1 liter of water daily with the suggested recipe. I did notice an increase in energy and less fatigue during workouts. However, was still gaining weight. Unfortunately I believe I may have overdone it, as I realized my body was retaining too much water due to the sodium content. I looked a little more plump. Since I have stopped taking it daily, I noticed my figure has slimmed down although I have probably not lost much weight. I think it's a great recipe, just something I would try a couple times a week as opposed to every day! The sodium seemed to have a building up effect on me! But it is possible those nutrients are readily available through foods. That being said I will still probably use it only weekly for the magnesium and potassium. Just something to be mindful of! -Alexandra

I had no idea it could quelch cravings, that interests me too, I find myself going through cupboards during the day just browsing for a snack. If this helps I'm in. Just for a FYI in one of your latest videos you gave a link to some sites that sell aprons. I looked it up and ended up buying 2 aprons. Now when I am in the kitchen whipping up a recipe of yours I can look the part and not get stuff all over myself. ( Mary wanna be) haha 😜

I didn't see you mention it either here or on your recipe page, so I did the calculations to determine how much sodium, potassium, and magnesium are in each 32 oz "serving" (1/2 tsp powder added to 32 oz water). There's also a lot of chloride of course, but I'm not sure that matters much. Although the amount of chloride is usually listed in commercial electrolyte powders and liquids. My results:
    ---
    - Sodium: 1 cup salt is 48 tsp, so 1/2 cup salt is 48 1/2 tsp, which provides from *1000 - 1200 mg sodium per serving* , depending on the coarseness of the salt.
    - Potassium: depending on the reference, 1/4 tsp KCl provides about 650 mg potassium, so 7 of those makes 1 3/4 tsp, which would amount to about 4500 mg potassium. That gives about *100 mg potassium per serving* (1/48 of the total)
    - 1/2 tsp magnesium glycinate provides about 200 mg magnesium (per the Best Naturals brand of powder), so 1/48 of that gives about *4 mg magnesium per serving* .)
    ---
For comparison, the values for these electrolytes present in 32 oz servings of commercial products "Keto Chow", "Keto Lyte" and "Ionic Lytes" are all about the same, at 125 mg sodium, 150 mg potassium, 45 mg magnesium, and 300 mg chloride. So, I think your mixture has way too much sodium and way too little magnesium. The potassium content seems to be in the right ballpark though.

    • @bazhughes5625
      @bazhughes5625 Рік тому +1

The average adult human requires 4700mg of potassium per day, the equivelent to around 8-9 cups of leafy greens The amount in the video gives very little towards the RDA. The ratios are way out.

    • @-johnny-deep-
      @-johnny-deep- Рік тому

@@bazhughes5625 True, the amount of potassium in one serving of this mix is tiny compared to the RDA, but it compares well to the other brands I mentioned. Presumably, you if you're only trying to replenish the potassium lost in sweat, the amount is appropriate? The RE-LYTE brand, which has the most of any brand I've seen, has 400 mg potassium per serving, which is also far short of the RDA. Not sure what to make of that.

Love this! I ordered the potassium and magnesium while watching (have the salt already) and will make some of the powder up! I may a summer drink for when we're working out in the sunshine all day. It's called "Haymaker's Punch" and I got the recipe from Stacy from "Off Grid with Doug and Stacy". I might play around with adding this powder to that recipe, or just make it like you do.
This powder would be a good thing to keep on hand for times when someone in the household has a stomach flu with vomiting or diarrhea, as that's a way serious electrolytes can be lost. This would be like a homemade "Pedialyte" sort of substitute. When I was about a year old, I'm told that I had a stomach flu that warranted a trip to the ER. The doctor fed me a bottle of electrolyte-infused water and may have saved my life as I was really ill.
Thanks for sharing and God bless!
