    2:57 Benefits of CO2
7:02 Learn more about the water you drink!
Let’s talk about carbonated water. Water is carbonated by adding CO2. This makes it bubbly and slightly acidic.
The body needs CO2 for oxygen to be absorbed into the cells. You can even put your body in a hypoxic state (low oxygen state) by depriving your tissues of CO2.
Carbonated spas or baths are used in some places for people with circulatory problems or diabetic wounds. It’s also used as a therapy for people after a stroke and to decrease the rate of amputation.
While I wasn’t able to find research on the health benefits of carbonated water, I did find some parallel research on CO2. CO2 is a potent anti-tumor, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory gas.
One study found a significant increase in the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system by increasing CO2. The parasympathetic nervous system counters fight or flight mode and supports healing, digestion, and sleep.
CO2 is a key factor we can’t ignore. You can increase your CO2 by breathing through your nose, especially while you sleep or exercise. Hot springs also have a significant amount of CO2. It’s even used in certain skin creams.

Well done, bravo!!! This is hard to do. I will share this with you: Glutamine powder helps a lot. 1 tsp mixed with water and Apple Cider Vinegar and a pinch of salt for taste, once a day. Glutamine stops cravings for sugar. Working out hard outdoors in the sunlight, helped me a lot too. Once those endorphins kick in, goodbye cravings. I found also that cutting back refined carbs and sugars like cakes and cookies, also dropped my desire for wine or alcohol.

Carbonated water with lemon juice could be bad for your teeth if you are constantly consuming it (a replacement for regular water). You never allow your oral PH value to return to neutral. It damages your enamel especially if you brush right after you drink it. It still better than soda tho.

@@capnbly Drinking any water gives your stomach new volume of liquid which happens to be less acidic than the HCl solution you use to digest. That way the volume increases but the molecules of acid stay the same (plus the much lesser quantity of carbonic acid from CO2).
That's why it disturbs digestion. Doesn't really neutralize the acid, but it does dilute it.
Still, the potential benefits discussed in the video are not relevant to that, of course then it's better to drink when not eating. Although, in my experience, it doesn't really make that much of a difference

I bought my own carbonated drink maker about a year ago and greatly love it. Usually I just carbonate regular water and drink it that way. I might mix it in with shochu (an alcoholic drink here in Japan) maybe add some lemon juice and it is quite good. Another plus I wasn't expecting, was that I can get more out of a can of beer by mixing in about a quarter or a third of cold carbonated water into a glass partly filled from the beer. It really doesn't thin out the taste the much, hardly noticeable if it's a good beer to begin with and not the thin watery type, and I get more volume from the can without consuming more alcohol. I drink it for the refreshment and taste, not really need the alcohol for anything, and it works great, especially this year after coming home from the hot days at work. I might be tempted to pop open another can if i didn't add the bubbly water to quench my thirst.

This is awesome! I used to love gulping down Topo Chico or Perrier after a long day of work. All my friends used to make fun of me, it seems like there is a stigma attached to carbonated water, and I told them it made me feel so refreshed, and invigorated even. Now I know I wasn't crazy!

All my life, the only thing that can quench my thirst when I'm really thirsty or dehydrated is sparkling (carbonated) mineral water, and as such I always keep a few bottles in my pantry. Sometimes I add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice for a touch of flavor. I always realized there must have been an actual scientific reason why I crave carbonated mineral water when I'm parched, and now I know... my family just thought it was yet another one of my weird quirks lol 😆

Funny enough, ever since I was a kid I was never the biggest summertime soda drinker. In high school I discovered this drink called Orangina (slightly carbonated orange juice), and from there moved onto Perrier. There's literally nothing better than coming home on a hot day to an ice cold glass of Perrier with a wedge of lime. In the 2000s I swear I drank 1-2 large bottles a day for like 6 years. Good stuff. 😊

FINALLY !!! You answered why I always have the feeling my body cells absorb more water when drinking carbonated water. At first I thought it was because it increases my low stomach acid 'cause I even top up herbal tea with carbonated water which just feels right - for me. You have added a slightly different slant and THANK YOU so much for that.

If you have low stomach acid then you're low in potassium. Almost everyone us deficient as we need around 5000 mg of it and must of it comes from veggies and fruit.
The acidic nature of c02, vinegar, etc helps in times of low acid, so it does help temporarily and I'd encourage it to relieve symptoms

You have just answered a question I have been wanting to ask you as I have grown to trust your judgment over the few years.
My whole life I have craved soda with lime water and only drunk this carbonated water. Like you and helped my digestion I felt more lively I felt brighter and my thirst quenched better. I had also heard that carbonation reduces minerals in your body and that that was why my fingernails were soft... But that's all I wanted to drink and that's what I have always continued to drink. Just like when I was a child I did not like orange juice or oranges and only ate limes lemons or grapefruit. Somehow I am I guess in touch with my body naturally. When I drank just an ounce of red wine when I ate I also had the same sensation so when I ate I drank some 1-2oz. red wine...much much later it was discovered the benefits. So I am happy I continue with what I feel my body is craving. I have become one of your greatest proponents to try to help other people by sharing your relevant videos as I discover them but you are so right that people do not appreciate the intrusion no matter how well-intended. Which I can understand because of the myriad snake-oil videos out there!!
You are helping so many of us who have alternate beliefs and have stuck by them despite the medical profession casting aspersions on us as patients. Of course as I age I also get that prejudgment from MD.s
So now at my age it's almost impossible to find a decent doctor with a brain open enough to listen. And the truly educated person knows enough to know that nothing is static and that they have a lot to learn! This is only what we know about carbon dioxide intake right now. Who knows what you will find ten years from now? I don't understand the desire for the concept of absolute/definitive knowledge. Curiosity, quest...
Thank you thank you thank you for giving substantiation to instinctive preferences (wive's tales,...eg. chicken soup) most of my life I spent researching these things by myself.
I used to it so much better!!!

    • @3211SD
      @3211SD Рік тому

the gas released from the drink expands your gut and more surface area of your intestine means everything gets absorbed faster . thats why you thirst quenched better and drink less wine but feel the affects same as drinking more . its bad if you dont want to absorb sugar into your body quickly

Yes, you are right about cabronated water. It used to be almost a "national drink" in ex-Yugoslavia, especially the natural one. It is good for hydration, full of electrolytes, for cell repair, new cells, even natural baths from the source of this water were very popular- an early kind of health spa....Thanks again, you are so thorough and always going to the bottom of each topic.

Dr. Berg, this flies in the face of what most doctors tell a person if they have any kind of acid reflux condition. They tell us the to avoid carbonated beverages because it brings up more acid!
On the other hand I grew up working in my parents soda fountain and and ice cream store, and we made New York style egg creams and phosphates which are delicious drinks made with seltzer water which has seen to have gone out of style now.... But I will tell you our customers who were from the older generation always asked for glass of seltzer water... Most of the older folks would have a glass of seltzer water to drink when they were thirsty... There is something to feeling your thirst being quenched with cold seltzer water, I always thought that it was just the sensation of the bubbles the feeling of the carbonation that people enjoyed!
