I think what makes me sad about this reboot is that they’ve taken away all those “edgy” aspects that really pulled me in when I was younger. This seems so pop-y and basic, which isn’t inherently bad, but it’s not the vibe that the og had which, I feel, spoke more to kids that may not have seen themselves in something that followed a more pop-y route.
@@laraprisma6381 When people say edgy they really mean alternative, fashion that wasn't mainstream which made Monster High really stand out in the doll market. And yes while the message of MH is being yourself, freaky flaws and all, remember first and foremost they are FASHION dolls and the first priority of any content would be to sell merchandise. Genuine messages and stories are secondary.
@@laraprisma6381 that is true, but they where talking about what pulled them into the show initially and not what the show thought them. I get it thanks to Clawdeen I learned that my existence isn’t a bad thing and that I need to be confident and show myself, but that is not what the comment was about.
@@laraprisma6381 was I talking about you specifically? No. Was I talking about a large chunk of people? Yes. If this doesn’t apply to you, then why comment? Being yourself and being unique can literally fall under the category of “edgy” for people so I found it to encapsulate a broad rage of feelings and ideas. It seems you’re taking it as a negative use of the word, when it’s not. Pretty much all doll companies tout being yourself (Barbie, Bratz, EEH, etc) but MH was unique in the fact that it held themes that are popular with a more alternative crowd. Besides, there’s literally nothing unique about these redesigns. They look like every other doll with colorful hair on the market now.
Personally not a fan of Draculaura being a witch, but i really like that she’s wearing a hat, i love that idea of her wearing one to protect herself from the sun, if she’s not carrying around a cute parasol
I think this could be done to make the character “less violent”, as vampires usually drink blood. Which is weird, because I don’t think the old MH stuff referenced her drinking blood or anything like that (Unless I’m mistaken, because I don’t have experience with this franchise). Also, if we’re going by rules established in The Vampire Diaries (bare with me on this), then vampires can’t perform magic because they’re dead and magic represents life, nature and energy (this is just how I see it, feel free to disagree).
@@JamesLawner she never drank blood in the series since one of the first things she said when she introduced herself was "I'm a vegan" so if it's for making it less scary then they didn't even watch the series for the movie
Lagoona's original designs was perfect to me her blue skin made he stand out against Frankie, Draculara, and Clawdeen and her blonde hair made her stand out from the water. And as you said those fins are pathetic like Lagoona didn't have swimming as a super power she had it as a skill and those itty bitty fins aren't gonna help
@@laraprisma6381 Well then you didn't watch the show. As Mag -narwhal stated it's her skill, the fins are not only hereditary but they also help give her a boost which is why she is such as strong swimmer (that and practice too)

The problem I have with the Sorceress thing with Draculaura, is that they say that witchcraft is looked down upon by monsters because humans did it or whatever. But literally humans burned/drowned witches for doing magic 😐 Also in the original Monster High, there was a witch. Yall remember Casta? I'm not mad that Draculaura is looking into witchcraft, but they could at least make the reasoning behind why witchcraft is looked down upon make sense.
Thats exctaly what i thought-they want to make it more accraute to actual witches but just made it illogical and stupid😭 it would have made far more sense for monster high to be welcoming to witchcraft since like you said..its disowned by humans-on top of that monster high is all about being yourself
@@cursedwithsetience4017 Casta was supposed to be the daughter of Cerci (I have spelled that do wrong) but the point remains that witchcraft and magic are common place in Monster High.
I completely agree with you! Nobody complained about the Witches then. Magicians are part of Monster High too. The magic of witches then was not even evil.
The trope of “new girl” worked for Frankie because she was so out of reality (she was literally 16 days old) and her character worked as a medium for getting to know about monster high world, and Draculara and Clawdeen (as already formed monster-individuals) helped her get to know Monster high world and to embrace her monster-self. They served as guides and big sisters, but now we have Clawdeen as a new girl, so she doesn’t have everything figured out for her thus she is not so self-assured and confident anymore (which was a big part of her original character), and as “guides” we have Draculara (I don’t have a problem with her being a witch, but I heard it was to make her like people more, cause witchcraft is somehow connected to humans now. Correct me if I am wrong) and Frankie, who is still out of reality and knows not much about the world. I apologise for mistakes If I made some, cause English is my second language.
The fact that clawdeen only lives with her dad and I think she’s now half werewolf? Was odd as I liked how she had such a big family as most actual wolves have 5 or so pups and she kinda works as the new girl when she’s in the monster high as it’s a new place but then doesn’t work as it should be more Frankie like you said as she’s 16 days old and they would be a better Mc and it would be nice to see how she goes threw the struggles and not know anything about both worlds sorry if this doesn’t make sense and your English was perfecto
The designs aren’t bad but they are too colorful for the whole monster/Halloween look they had. Also some of them look like completely different characters especially Lagoona. I also feel like they are changing the personality of the characters way too much.
I have no problem with changes! Rise of The tmnt has changed a lot and a lot about the tmnt franchise! And I love that series even though I like the previous tmnt series! I liked the changes like Leonardo not being the leader and the turtles being different species! For me, what makes a bad reboot is execution, not appearances!
They made Lagoona a completely different species, from the looks of it. Claudeen looks as if she's one of OG Claudeen's many other family members who happen to have the same name
@@laraprisma6381 I get what you’re saying but Monster High is centered around appearance. People mostly remember about the unique looks of the characters rather than the stories

It's not bad per se, but it doesnt feel like Monster High anymore
What I don’t understand is why are they changing the character’s personalities for the story when monster high already has characters that fit perfectly with those archetypes, like why make Clawdeen the awkward new girl instead of franky that was literally her story, why make Draculara a vampire and a witch when they could’ve just put Casta Fierce in the movie, why make Lagoona Cleo’s mean bestie when they could’ve just used Toralie, and with how much they changed Deuce why not just make him Invisi Billy? My problem with Clawdeen's design is they turned her into the stereotypical nerdy new girl, and as a girl with curly hair and glasses I have a deep distaste for this trope because she's often treated as a joke and is "fixed" by straightening her hair and ditching the glasses. Then suddenly she's beautiful and her "awkwardness" vanishes.
But that's- not what they're doing with Clawdeen. She just is a character with curly hair and glasses. She's not even that nerdy?? And they never once have shown any clips trying to like "fix" her so I'm not sure what your point is lmao

@@nevaehparis4829 she’s not nerdy by the definition but in the movie and show she’s replacing Frankies role as being the sorta awkward new girl and with her character design it adds to the element of her being a stereotype of a nerd
what especially annoys me is she’s supposed to be a nerd, and they SPECIFICALLY GAVE HER GLASSES. i’m so annoyed the media is still doing stupid stuff like this. like Negative said, nerds are so much more normalized. it’s idiotic for glasses and curly hair to automatically equal nerd. Your sight and your natural hair has nothing to do with how smart you are. Plus i’m pretty sure most people find curly hair more attractive? and imo glasses make people cuter, which i’ve seen people agree with. But no, let’s make this movie character in 2022 be a stereotypical nerd that should’ve been a trope left way in the past.
My biggest problem with this designs is that they are not monsters enough, they look like regular generic dolls. They look like completely different characters (and act like completely different characters in leaked movie). The movie's main conflict breaks my heart. "There's a human in the school, so panic everyone!" It's not Monster High. Monster High is all about acceptance. They even have Jackson Jekyll! No one knew he was part monster and students were just chill with him going there. Of course the human scare is more Gen 2, but even in Gen 2 students were cool with being in the same room as humans (albeit hiding that they're actually monsters). The character designs and personality changes bother me too, but the message that Monster High is about is accepting others and their differences. If the movie ends with ostracizing the human, especially if they have good intentions, it'll *ruin* the Monster High brand for this generation of production.

I really miss the accents 😭 Not just Dracualara's, but Lagoona's and other characters too. They not only made them more iconic but also gave a kind of representation to certain races, example: Lagoona being Australian. Australian hippie Lagoona is based and I want her back 💀
Yeah omg it does LMAO unfortunately it looks like they are taking what I like to call The Teen Titans Go approach. Which is remastering a well-loved series but completely dumbing it down and lowering the quality and making it for very young kids under 10 instead of appealing to tweens or teens or even the adult fans who have nostalgia for it. It really looks like that is the case for both the animated and live action content

I personally feel a little put off by Cleo's new color palette/style. It's like the designers looked at Robecca, loved her design, got sad that she's not (yet) in the reboot, took her style, changed the copper to gold and brushed it all over Cleo. But Cleo I think always had a much more beige, turquoise and brighter style while the dark blue and black combo was always more Robecca's colors. That's why I don't like it. Also yeah I hate that they stripped the whole fashion interest and hobby that was always a huge part of Clawdeen and just trashed it to make her into a geeky new girl in town. If they really wanted a quirky geek character Frankie would've been a better fit for such a trope since they are only a couple days old and could just start getting obsessed with every new thing they stumble across.
I actually think in the animated version, Cleo does not look like Cleo. She looks like Cleo's *sister*, or a knock-off. Outside of that, Lagoona's redesign is a tragedy.
They sort of de-fanged the aesthetics, making the colours brighter in an effort to be more kid friendly and stuff like that. But.. why? The franchise was already popular _with_ the grittier aesthetics, the edgier look was part of its appeal. Exactly what was their thought process here? “Kids will only watch if we remove these elements” but kids _did_ watch it with those elements?? Maybe: “Parents won’t let their kids watch the show if they think it’s too scary.” That didn’t stop the original show, did it? There is no reason they could give for why they changed the aesthetics that can’t be combated with: “But it worked great for the original.” Come on, it’s literally called _Monster_ High.
even with the original series, monster high literally got crucified and torn apart by parents for being too “revealing”, “scary”, “edgy” (and others) for kids; they tried to work on this in the first reboot and took it even further this time. really unfortunate that they’re still trying to cling onto these age old critiques even though there’s a new generation of parents now and kids used to love it back then

The way the popularity of the brand comes from it’s representation of more underground unexplored styles fashion dolls didn’t use to represent, and the 2016 reboot failed because it got rid of the edgyness of the brand, and now they wanna do ANOTHER sagfe childish cute-sy redesign? Haven’t they learned? Also the designs look mega dated. They all look like they could’ve been drawn in 2016. Mattel keeps failing and missing the assignment…
Bro you’ve already been in other people’s comments about this. Edgy, Alternative. Whatever word you use for it, it was part of the original shows essence, and it also is what contributed to the message of being yourself and being unique bc it presented Alternative fashion and vibes that previously weren’t show or represented and largely frowned upon. Having that removed from the reboot makes the message of “uniqueness” and freaky flaws and all, feel hollow and flat. Bc it’s just another washed out copy of everything else that exists already, with no attempts made to actually be unique
They're trying way too hard to make their designs relatable... like I was a teen way too old for dolls when MH released, but the creativity in their fashion choices is what pulled me in. The problem in the redesigns is not that they're pop-y or missing the edge. I'm so pissed about Lagoona. Firstly, the range had Latina characters, so why strip out the one Aussie character. If they wanted to add the colour/racial diversity there, they could legitimately hired an Aboriginal actress. But I guess finding Americans who can do a good Australian accent was too hard I guess. Plus, her having the blue and pink hair the way it is, legit just took that from Abby Bomidable.
Aff, you don't like that she's Latina??? You know that the voice actress is suffering attacks for being Latin right??? I'm latina and I think her being of my ethnicity is great!!
@Camilla Wathier Lessa well lagoona’s dad isnt australian himself, blue lagoon came from the amazon So lagoona herself should have been latina from the start
I think that the reason I'm disappointed is probably because they took monster high and basically stripped it of it's theme. Moster high at it's core wanted to be a doll line that was different from other fashion dolls because they weren't afraid to make their characters more monstrous. With this new release they basically disneyfied these characters because they want to make money and appeal to a general audience. Will this appeal to a new generation? I'm not sure, but what I do know is that they're basically stripping the goth aspects of these characters away to make them look more like disney women. That doesn't have to be a bad thing but it kinda contradicts the core idea of monster high of be yourself unapologetically. I do believe that there is a way of updating these characters while also staying true to the original characters, but they seemed to basically want to rewrite all of them to fit their new story which wouldn't appeal to long time fans. If this is the case then they probably should've simply designed a new cast, and have the older cast appear every so often rather than completely tearing down the previous characters. In the end, this is the companies decision and I guess I can't be too upset with it. Just makes me sad at how Clawdeens character has been basically erased into being a nerd. I mean Ghoulia is right there, she was the nerd of the group. And if they wanted her to have a nerdy aspect about her they could've but they basically replaced what made Clawdeen Clawdeen. Idk, maybe I'm overanalyzing this a bit too much but character designing and story telling are my biggest interest and I truly think there was a better way of going about this.
Can we talk about the animation character designs for a sec? Because, is it just me or they "disneyfied" the "good" characters, but left a little more edgy aspects to the "mean" ones. Take Chleo or Toraly for example. On purpose or not, it goes against everything Monster high stands for, and is subtly linking goth, punk or more "dark" fashion to being a bad person.
@@hafi3555 wow I hadn’t even noticed that but that just makes it even worse. Why can’t the girl have their edgy style while also being nice! Its not that hard! They already did it in the first iteration of the dolls and shows. Its really sad that they’ve stripped that away too when that was a big part of monster highs whole look.
I'm personally not a very big fan of clawdeen's TOTAL character overhaul. While it isnt a bad direction, and its not bad representation at all, a small part of me feels like they only changed clawdeen so dramatically because they didnt want to/didnt feel like writing a confident strong black girl as the main character, either because writing a nerd is easier or because a confident black girl protag wouldnt be "relatable" enough or "likeable" enough?? I personally know and went to school with ALLOT of people who looked like the new clawdeen and that IS wonderful representation! im not AGAINST the new direction, but i dont see why they could just make a new character without butchering the old clawdeen. Why cant we just have both??? Orrrrr, maybe im just salty because clawdeen was the first character that turned me gay. who knows tbh.
Well confident black person is kinda a stereotype and society is pressing fir more diversity in character types for dark skinned people, that might be it.
this. I'm so god damn tired of the mc nerd steriotype. clawdeen is a confident lesbian big sister type, who'll kick ass for you if needed. making her a reserved and shy nerd, and potentially paring her up with deuce is just plain derespectful.
@@thepinkestpigglet7529 i dont disagree, the lack of diversity in 'diverse' characters IS a problem, which is why i said that the new direction for clawdeen is still good representation! i just have to wonder why we cant represent both. they could have kept the old clawdeen, possibly tweaked her, and ALSO had other black characters who have other personality types. i think the new style/approach they gave to clawdeen would actually go great on howleen, or like i said they could make a new character entirely. People of all cultures and lifestyles deserve to be celebrated and represented, even if they are the 'stereotypical' type. i think its important to have well-written 'stereotype' characters because of course, many stereotypes are made to frown upon a certain group. but in this case, black women deserve to be confident and not be judged or frowned upon for it, and as long as we dont have proper well-written representation for that, i think it'll continue to be an issue. I just think that we should be allowed to have both. because *EVERYBODY* deserves positive and well-done representation.
I agree with your comments on Lagoona as even I cannot understand why she is not blue. However, I do find some concerns about Draculra and her change from vampire to witch vampire. Also, Clawdeen having glasses on her…yeah sort of makes the werewolf thing a bit off putting as you would think that she has enhanced sight as a werewolf.
Draculaura witch vampire thing bugs me especially because she makes a comment witchcrafts is "a dirty human thing" and like? Guys?? There's lways been witches in the Monster High universe why is witchcraft something to be discriminated against? Wouldn't a human capable of doing magic stop being a normie. It just bugs me to no end
To be honest, I thought movie Deuce was Jackson for a sec. Redesigning characters for reboots/remakes is fine, it’s just that redesigns should still have things that make it obvious what character they are. The redesign for Lagoona Blue has also failed that qualification. When it comes to the new personalities and designs, I’m most happy with Cleo and Frankie. Something I’m scared about is Cleo not becoming friends with the main characters.
Something I haven't seen anyone talk about but I think is important to note is that the characters seem to be aged down. Frankie's bio now says they're 15 days old rather than the original 16. I feel that the OG series had the character give off the feeling they were juniors or seniors at the very end of high school. This new version however feels like it is going for test freshman, sophomore feel. If Mattel was really smart then over the next couple years we should see the characters explore themselves and age into that older feel evolving with their target audience-children in elementary school. And if they were even smarter -as their current cast ages out into college, etc. they'd introduce new characters to become the main cast with the original crew of this version being mentors or having specials separate from the show to highlight their experiences becoming adults. I doubt this will happen, but if it did-it be brilliant in its own way.
Yeah they're into gradual development. Even by episode 7 of the show at the moment we can see Clawdeen IS developing into that self assured person she was in G1, but it's gonna take time since that's how they wanna tell their story.
They did Lagoona dirty, in my opinion. I think her current design is alright, but it doesn't look like lagoona at all. At this point I personally, would've preferred lagoona being demoted as a side-character or minor charcter with most of her key design elements intact rather than her looking like a pastel-y doja-cat (not a bad thing but not like lagoona) looking monster.
@@laraprisma6381 I agree. Like I said, I think her design is alright, and it is overall well-designed, but it's not reminiscent of the previous designs at all except for general aquatic elements. A revival is continuity of a series, picking up where it left off, but a reboot is like redecorating if that makes sense. While I think we lost a lot of potentional with the canceled crossover between MH and EAH (ever after high) I'm open to a different story for monster high.
She looks like Jojo Siwa, imo. But on crack. Jojo's style is very bright and sparkly, but Lagoona is literally the same color as a box of sidewalk chalk.
I'm just praying Frankie's character in the show goes beyond 'ooh what's a shoelace? ooh I've never seen a hairbrush before!' cuz yeah she had a bit of that in the original, but she could still function like a person with all the other girls.
18:45 The reason why Frankie isn't green anymore is apparently due to copyright issues. The traditional look of Frankenstein's monster with the green skin and bolts at its neck was invented for the old movie by Universal. Universal also collaborated with Mattel to create the first generation of Monster High, that's why Frankie was able to be green back in Gen 1.
@@lovelycloudyskies The character design of green-skinned Frankenstein's monster is copyrighted and owned by Universal. And Universal has very specific guidelines about what design elements for a Frankenstein character are prohibited to be used by others. The first gen of Monster High was a collab with Universal, that's why Mattel was allowed to use the popular design created by Universal.
I just want them to make an animated series that will appeal to tweens, teens, young adults and adults, in terms of character design and writing. Shows like Young Justice/Teen Titans, Avatar/Legend of Korra, Star Wars Rebels/Clone Wars, the Dragon Prince, She-Ra & PoP, Voltron, and Trollhunters all did this successfully, so it's a bit frustrating to see what they went with instead, especially since they already did that with G2.
@@laraprisma6381 Sure but you also want to consider the fandom, the older fans that has been keeping the brand alive for this long. They can't just depend on kids alone for the success of this reboot because if it doesn't go well with them then things will be in hot water.
I actually DON'T think that would be best. At the end of the day, Monster High is first and foremost a doll line aimed at kids. When they make their big comeback, their biggest rivals will be MGA's Rainbow High, so they need to hit similar marks to that if they're gonna compete. I'm guessing the new show will be similar story-wise to the Rainbow High webisodes. Also, OG Monster High was never really an "epic" show in the same way She-Ra or Korra was. It was basically teens going to school, hanging out at the mall, going to sports events, etc, but they happen to be Monsters. And that's kinda what I liked about it. Very slice of life-y.
Honestly, for me, Clawdeen is the worst redesign of the group. There is absolutely nothing recognizable between this new version and the furry fashionista we love. Even the doll is lacking the 'bite' that the previous Clawdeen had. Seeing that they didn't even get a truly dark skinned actress for her only cements how much I hate this new character. And... that's what she is. A new character. Not Clawdeen. I'll admit I'm not a fan of Cleo's animated design either. I can't help but seeing Isabella from Encanto when I look at the roundness of her face and the styling of her hair. Only issue with her real life version is the fact they cast a light skinned actress for a character who clearly isn't light skinned. Laguna is... I don't know. I like the design in the animated version. It's cute and gives off a nice sporty vibe. Would have preferred her to have kept the color scheme from the original but at the very least this one pops and seems to fit with the vibe of the original character. The live action design is... unrecognizable as a lagoon monster. A couple of tiny leg fins and maybe a hint of ear fins underneath all that shimmering, shiny hair is... it's a mess. I honestly thought she was like... the child of a unicorn when I looked at her. Nothing about her design hints at her personality or what monster she is. Just... why? Draculara being a witch is... meh. Honestly, I agree with Negative Legend in that they probably shoved it in just because it's popular right now. What bothers me is how much of her design is going to be influenced by the witch stuff over the vampire stuff. She should be a vamp first and witch second, not the other way around. They also seemed to be giving her a slightly heavier body shape which is... not what I would have chosen for a character who drinks blood. I support wanting body diversity but I think if they wanted to do that they should have picked Clawdeen or Frankie, since I can't imagine vampires gain much weight off a diet of exclusively blood. I also personally think that having a Clawdeen with the original personality who is a heavier set character would be way more impactful an image, since it would emphasize that heavier people can be fashion icons too. Frankie is cute. I like their redesign even if it is a bit dulled down compared to the previous spark. Making them non-binary makes sense though it is a bit jarring since the character has been a she/her up until this point, though I honestly don't see it being much of an issue even for older fans since the reboot is clearly has such a distinct feel that the characters themselves feel completely different from one another. No real opinion on Duece other than he looks like they swapped the color palette of Riverdale's Jughead.
Depending on how you interupt a vampire-they could still gain weight I mean if monster high can have draculra be a vegatarian i dont see why not Tho i do like the idea of clawdeen being chubby and still a fashion icon-i agree with you there
Lagoona's design is my least favorite. The pink color scheme makes her blend in with the other pink characters, and the blue on her legs just looks tacked on. Also, they got rid of her webbed fingers, which were my favorite part of her old design!
Since I work in the industry, I do avoid talking too much about the designs. But Lagoona's design (both animated show and movie) looks like they are trying to go to a 2018 mermaid look(already dating the design by the way). About the “BLUE“ in her name- it's because she is the daughter of the BLUE Lagoon monster,(and he is green by the way), not because her skin is Blue. However, I don't like her color scheme at all, her original design and even G2 design had a very balanced color scheme that this new one doesn't. IDK why they went for her being Latina, I guess Skelita will not exist in this reboot, but we did have Marissol if they wanted to avoid the body image controversy Skelita had. Now, I'm not happy with the fandom going after the voice actors and the actors, they don't have any control over the story of the show and movie, they are doing what they were hired to do. Also the design team and the animators as well, and I do argue with the writers too because they all have to have the executive's approvals(because being a creative means you have to hear from the higher-ups about everything, and doesn't mean you will have creative freedom). Another little fact- usually the process of the design is- Dolls first, cartoon show second, so the character designers from the show had to work with the doll designs and not the other way around.
@ann no problem. I felt I need to explain a little bit more- When we talk about commercial doll lines, the dolls take longer to make, so they are usually designed first. So the designers for the cartoon have to adapt what the doll designers gave them. The opposite does happen, but for productions like movies, for example, Encanto, the doll line probably was only started to work on when they already had the final or almost final designs(it also explains why sometimes the dolls and movies designs don't look 100% alike). I know this because I did a test for a cartoon show of a doll line, that was already airing, but the doll line was still being produced, and the test was to - adapt the design the manufacturer gave us to the cartoon show. And sadly animated shows for toy lines have little to no time, but by the looks of the new MH, it does look like they had more communication between them. But in the MH what I said also does happen, for example, 13 wishes, clearly they were planning to do a Cleo e a Ghoulia to the doll line but gave up, but they already had sent for the studio the designs for them, and when they decided to drop the designs from the line, probably was a little late for the studio to remove them.
I believe her being latina is because of where the blue lagoon monster originated from-but i dont mind her bein latina i think it provides more good repesention
I don't mind the being Latina-coded, BUT, as a Latina, I do hope they don't make a mixed beg of Latin American cultures(and from her character description, it looks like they are going to do that as Disney did with Elena of Avalor). The cool thing about Skelita, Marissol, and other Latino-coded characters, is as they were really careful to show they were all from different cultures. Another thing, from the original Universal Movie, the Blue Lagoon is located in Brazil, and not what it looks like they are planning to do. The actress who is playing her in the movie is Latina, but I do believe she is from Colombia, but judging by the description they are clearly mixed and mashing Latin American cultures. I hope I'm wrong and they make it very clear the culture Lagoona is coming from. In G1 and G2 she was Australian only in accent, they never went too deep with her origin, even on the movie she was the main character.
It feels like lagoona's entire wardrobe is exclusively from Claires, and also to me one of her most recognizable traits was her hair, and I'm not saying the new hair dosnt look great but where is at least a little bit of blond? And were is her texture. I'm also a bit upset that they seem to be making her charicter into the airhead girly girl when she already had a really cool charicter that people love, monster high never really had that Charicter type and never needed it.
I just feel like they are loosing the magic of the original show the dark athstetics with bold charicters that were unique and really good. In with the reboots it just looks like your generic 3D kids cartoon and your classic cheesy early 2000s high school drama movie. The original show was unique and stood out from the rest of the media and the time and people loved it. I understand wanting to modernize it but a lot of aspects of the show were timeless and modernizing dosnt mean overhauling characters to be the same as every other ones at the time
Im just disappointed that the franchise is getting farther and farther away from its original dark playful gothic theme cause thats really what made the franchise and drew in the fans, but I do like clawdeens new curly hair though I don't really like the rest of her design
How on earth does Clawdeen's glasses stay on her head? Her ears are on top of her head, not on the side like humans. I guess for the Live-Action version it would be difficult to make glasses that look good and also "functional" to wear. But they also did the same with the animated version. It irritates me...
Personally, I could totally see Draculaura becoming a sorceress bc she’s 1600 years old. I could totally see the vampire shtick getting tired at that point and wanting to try something new
I'm curious as to why she wants to practice witchcraft! Maybe it has something to do with her mother?? There's almost nothing about her mother at the moment, maybe a mystery?🤫
Right, when I was younger in actually did a story with one of my draculauras being a witch. (Called her draculuara's cousin i think) being immortal has to get boring every now and then to where you pick up hobbies and interests.
Actually fun fact according to the 1818 book by Mary Shelley Frankenstein's Monster is yellow and translucent.. so the colour is kind of wrong either way. Universal Studio chose to make him green because for one it shows better in black and white.
i don’t know if that would work for frankie because yellow-ish skin is because the monster is made of decayed body parts and that wouldn’t be a pretty shade of yellow and i think green was chosen because it’s classically associated with frankenstein’s monster and they have an electricity thing that incorporates yellow into their color scheme or at least i remember that in the older animated shorts which is the main way i consumed monster high content back then
@@aline8576 the original piece I'm referring to is from the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley the person who originally wrote Frankenstein and in the original depiction Frankenstein's monster was yellow. Green isn't the original. Please do adequate research. Mary Shelley's depiction is the original character of Frankenstein's monster and she even named Victor Frankenstein's brother after her son who died tragically. I urge you to please, if you like something, take the time to understand and appreciate it's origin and importance. I get why people don't find the colour appealing for the characters aesthetic but green isn't the original and neither is blue so Frankie being either shouldn't be important or so much of a problem to fans. Both colours are great and more appealing aesthetically to the public. My comment wasn't made to dispute the colour choice be it blue or green, it was meant to encourage people to be more open minded because neither is correct if you looking for the original Frankenstein's Monster.
@@saphirothplaysbad4708 the person is literally saying people most commonly associate frankenstein's monster with green because of the media, it gets to the point quickly and easily as not everybody knows the history.
I think it's great how they wanted to include a non binary character, it was how they introduced them that felt forced, at least for me. I think most people don't want to make a spectical out of their gender or sexuality, they want what feels natural to them to be treated as something normal, because it is. Introducing Frankie's pronouns the way they did made the scripting feel so obvious and not authentic. Most interactions I have with people who have preferred pronouns usually let you know if/when it comes up or they will tell you if you politely ask.
I also read a comment that said even though Frankie wasn't portrayed as non binary in the original, it makes sense once you think about how she is made of multiple people.
@@xandria2220 The original Frankie used she/her pronouns, so I don’t think she was non-binary. And her parts are based off of that scientist girl in Escape from Skull Shores, which was the reason Farnum(?) used her as bait to lure Andy.
Agreed. A new non binary character would be awesome, but pushing it on Frankie felt so forceddd... and I cringed when I heard the pronoun introduction just cuz it made it worse. Yeah the whole being made of other people thing makes sense in relation to this but I would've much prefer a new enby character
@@xandria2220 I feel like that's such a shallow reason to change her pronouns , its like they completely erased her OWN sense of self and say "oh yeah I'm multiple people so I have no sense of identity" which is dumb. Ergo: it feels like they wanted a "proper" answer for angry parents
there’s no such thing as forced diversity. it wasn’t forced. they just changed the pronouns of the character, not a big deal. it doesn’t change anything about the story or their design so why do you care.
The live-action has a budget of a dollar and it’s giving Walmart completely. I still don’t understand how they MISUNDERSTOOD the assignment this badly. The entire fandom has said they loved the first two versions (animated) of the show and they STILL changed the entire plot/characters. The pronouns come across as forcing diversity instead of making it natural for the characters. The entire reboot is an embarrassment to the fandom in my opinion. They’re missing Clawd and Howleen (such important familial dynamics to be explored), they’re taking away THE power couple (Deuce and Cleo) that established interesting love dynamics and Lagoona and Gil, again, important relationship dynamics. It’s like they didn’t understand why we, the fandom, fell in love with the franchise. Every single person could find at least one relatable character/dynamic. These redesigns feel like they’re reducing the complexity of the characters and dumbing them down for children. Considering the fact that we as a society are “progressing”, it seems weird that we’re dumbing down things for children who are much more aware nowadays.
‼️Unfortunately it looks like they are taking what I like to call The Teen Titans Go approach. Which is remastering a well-loved series but completely dumbing it down and lowering the quality and making it for very young kids under 10 instead of appealing to tweens or teens or even the adult fans who have nostalgia for it. It really looks like that is the case for both the animated and the live-action version
@@Man-wolf- Please don't compare these two! You're practically accusing the series of making fart jokes, filer 100% of the time, and annoying characters when it's not the case!😭

While I’m happy about the representation, there’s a lot I don’t like about this new direction and fashion choices but I’m particularly upset with the new characterization for Draculaura. They removed her “girly”, feminine personality in favour of a kind of “emo” edgy one even though what made her so charming in the original. It’s like girls can’t be “girly” anymore because it doesn’t fit the new standard.
Weren't all the characters originally in Hot Topic fashion? If anything, Draculaura looks less emo/goth now. She only looks emo compared to the other characters because they made everyone else more generic.
@@TuesdaysArt Her outfit isn’t edgy to me, It’s her personality i was talking about. In gen 1 she was very unapologetically feminine, cute and “girly”but also kind and cared about her friends-which is cool as most feminine characters at that time were often mean girls or painted negatively. Now it seems their going the edgy loner with a secret talent route, kinda generic to me. But if we are talking about her outfits now, yeah they aren’t edgy anymore which actually kind of sucks. Tbh her old creepy-cute lolita fashion style holds up to today’s trends much better than whatever 2015-16 tumblr witch aesthetic she’s got going on rn but i digress.
I finally figure out why Draculaura new desing and story seems familiar: THE BRATZILLAS!!! - the bicolored parted hair - the hat and new outfit - the wich part (Also, we already have Casta Fierce, why we couldn't have a NEW character that IS a Witch?) (Also, also: two things -Lagoona looks like a Mermaid, not a sea Monster [wicht, ok, she was always daugther of a ocean nyph]. - And, did It say that Heath is now the son of Hades?! What?! So he is not just a fire elemental annymore?! Can someone confirm?????
Yes he is and its stupid as hades has nothing to do with fire-they straight out admitted they only ever watched Disney’s herculise 😭 It feels like making a monster character be jesus’ son its stupid
I loved MH growing up and have several of the first generation dolls. I feel like Cleo and Toreli are mostly untouched by both of the reboots, so I don't mind their changes that much, but other characters like Lagoona and Clawdeen(why would they put the most fashionable character in overalls in the animated series and what happened to her dark brown hair!?) look completely unrecognizable and not like themselves. They also took away Ghoulia's disability, which really makes me mad because she was one of the first animated characters with Autistic traits that I related to, and them taking that away for 'diversity' reasons feels very hypocritical. It would have been more effective to keep her Autistic traits and express them a bit more in my opinion. The diversity in Gen 1 MH was so impactful because it was very subtle and not too in your face. Nobody felt like a token minority in the original and it was just part of who they were. In the reboot, the diversity feels forced. At least I have Shadow High to satisfy my desire for goth dolls now, because I am very disappointed with this MH reboot and I hope that Mattel eventually learns their lesson. If I don't like it, I will probably just not buy the dolls and I don't want to spead hate or ruin the reboot for anyone who likes it. I know there was also a controversy where MH fans bullied reboot Lagoona's voice actress on social media and its sad to see MH fans partake in toxic fandom behavoir.
Torali is basically the same design wise but they completely changed her personality, her going from a bully from the streets to a rich supremacist. I think the only characters that are the closest to the same all around are Cleo and Deuce.
I wonder if the Clawdeen change is because they heard that there is a need for more nerdy-adjacent black female characters, since the fierce/independent thing has become pretty common and they wanted to try something new. Bit of a shame because I liked old Clawdeen but I kind of get where they're going with this. Also them dropping accents is good, forced accents are never good imo. I know for a fact that a lot of Romanians are tired of the "vampires speak in fake pseudo Romanian accent" thing.
I heard that the reason for Frankies skintone change from green to blue has to do with the copyright. Universal originally came up with the iconic green colour of Frankenstein + some other Frankenstein features and apparently they’re really strict about the copyright, so since universal is not involved in this movie/ show anymore they had to work around the copyright guidelines to create Frankie.
Draculaura being a sorceress I think could be very fun, I more like that it feels like they're gonna lean into the lolita aesthetic for this new version with her designs maybe. Frankie is fun but I hope she has some more punky aspects as well cause I think of a mix of punk and preppy when it comes to her? If that makes sense?
I wish they took the Frankie Enby situation as them being such "newblood" they didn't understand the concept of gender, tbh. That would have made for such a cool take on Frankie being only a few days old! Pronoun Edit; because my brain is hardwired to the old Frankie, lol.
Honestly, the only thing I think that is a good change is Frankie being non-binary, they're a literal mish-mash of different parts put together. So why should they have to conform to one ideal of gender identity? It fits with their backstory pretty well in my opinion. And this sets up Frankie possibly having a change in identity or going through an arc to find out if non-binary is the right term for them. Identities change and it'd be really cool to normalize switching or changing how you identify.
I love it, but it doesn’t really make sense to me that they would know and understand what pronouns are, but not have any idea what a hugh-five is. Maybe they should’ve gone with a different gag At the end of the day though I think kids will like it though
@@Sophie_Pea the same thing can be said for the first and second generation Frankie tho, in G1 and G2 Frankie was going with she/her from the start. And the new Frankie is made out of body parts from geniuses, so it works with the out of touch scientist/genius rout
@SKY *-* thank you for ignoring the fact that Frankie uses they/them pronouns in the G3, that's they are made from different body parts of different gendered people and that they are the out of touch scientist trope, that they're played by a man. Also a side note non binary people don't owe you androgyny, and Frankie is pretty much gender neutral name
@@Sophie_Pea A high five is a social thing, while They/Them pronouns are used in general conversation commonly. So they could have just never had someone ask for a high five and would never know, while they would have very likely heard they/them pronouns before. That or they/them pronouns have been used for them since their creation in this universe, so they didn't have to learn about them.
They took everything they made monster high unique, destroyed it, and made it extremely bland and basic…and Frankie is the new girl not clawdeen? Why did they do that? Poor lagoona…poor everyone…
I actually like sorceress Draculaura because modern media tends to forget in older vampire lore and literature vampires are in fact spell casters They can also animal shift, enchant(mind control), necromance, summon flame to name a few depending on the story So draculaura being able to do magic makes her feel old school monster instead of trendy new age vampire and I'm kind of here for it 👍
The best way I would describe G3's designs is that they took all the bite out of Monster High. It's not really giving anything more than the bare minimum and that's a damn shame.
I feel like they're trying to pull all the characters away from being even slightly boy crazy. To me that's the only explanation for adding the "practicing magic" character aspect to Draculara
But Draculara wasn’t that boy crazy. She only really cared for her own boyfriend and after a while found her own footing without clinging to him. That is literally her growth through the show.
@@laraprisma6381 but in the reboot magic is forbidden, or seen as less thani don't quite remember. But there's definitely a stigma to Draculara practicing magic.

One reason for making frankie blue instead of green is that the company that “owns” Frankenstein ( the known iconic tv one) has some guide lines for what a “ Frankenstein character can and can’t look like if you don’t want to get sued. One of those points are green skin, as well as bolts on the neck and a few other things. So that’s most likely why she is a blue colour now, to protect Nickelodeon from being sued
I kinda like the idea of "Lolita goth witch Draculaura" cuz imagine how bored you'd be at 1500 years old! Like, If you could see the legends of magic in their prime, wouldn't you want to get in some of that action?! Also, enby Frankie feels SO right?! Why does it feel so natural?😍
I really like older Monster High stuff, but these characters have definitely been changed in personalities quite a bit...Why didn't they just make new characters and turn this into a sequel from the perspective of new students with cameos of the old Monster High characters? Oh well, at least the Draculaura doll looks right...wonder how posable the new dolls are going to be
Dude this is my childhood and I love just throwing love at it and watching it be torn apart and ruined and then still throwing love at it and it being tarnished once more
Ghoulia's design makes me upset. I can't really explain why her design makes me upset, but the personality change I can. She looks less like a bookworm and far less shy. I really liked the Gen 1 dichotomy of Ghoulia and Cleo because they respect each other despite liking different things. And maybe that's because as a kid I was in a very similar situation as Ghoulia was and I saw myself in her personality. Ghoulia gave me hope that I was accepted and taking away that shy personality is really changing the whole message I think her character had.

THANK YOU! You hit on almost everything I've been thinking about this reboot. That's exactly what my issue is with it, it's too much of a departure from the original, but instead of going too far, I don't think they went far enough. Hear me out: throughout the process of sorting out my feelings on this, I realized that maybe my issue is that I don't care for reboots or remakes in general. I can't really think of any franchise that had one that I enjoyed. I mean maybe Sonic Boom, for like a little bit, but I treat that as like, a multiverse sort of thing rather than a pure reboot, but I digress. These characters are so far removed from what their original incarnations are that it's frustrating. Heath being a hotheaded jock, Draculaura being a sorceress coming out of left field (literally if any character were to take this route, it should have been Cleo, she literally had magical items that caused chaos in the original, it FITS so much better on her), and Lagoona not seeming at ALL like her original version, oh I have a strong frustration with Lagoona. I have said to many people that if she were branded as a different character with a different name, I'd probably love her, the design is up my alley. And THAT'S the issue! This feels like the team had a completely different vision for what the series should be and slapped a bunch of nametags on the characters that weren't really meant for them. Your critique of Clawdeen only furthers that belief for me, you're right, she doesn't seem confident, or fashion focused, or fierce, she's none of the things we know Clawdeen for. Neither is Deuce, Deuce has a cool doll leak (love his new face sculpt) but he lacks the style and edge of the original. If I were the one tackling this reboot, I would've treated it as a literal next generation (maybe something akin to what MLP Gen 5 has done to establish itself), as like, the younger siblings of the original cast who barely had any character development, or entirely new characters all together. And THAT would make this likeable for me. If they went all the way and just created the series as something that was totally new instead of haphazardly throwing stuff from the old into a blender, this could be so much fun. I'd be okay with that being Monster High, I'd still want it to have a new name to separate itself, but I'd live with it having the same name in that case. It's not that this whole thing is a bad direction, I don't think it's bad, it's just a strange direction. Like, I would not be as critical of it if it weren't attached to something I loved so much. Doing it this way was a huge risk of upsetting a large fanbase that's nostalgic for MH, and you can't tell me that they weren't trying to capture people who are nostalgic, why use the old names if they weren't? If they wanted to target a new audience, they should have just done that and made new characters. We've heard the stories of the original ghouls for almost a decade, it's time for some new stories with a new cast. I get the desire for new content and change, we should have that, but it should actually be a change that's well thought out. I'm just, so frustrated with the fanbase. The divide has gotten incredibly catty, obnoxious, and hostile. Some people love the new stuff and will accept no criticism because "they're finally being diverse therefore it's good," while others are extremely negative and sending threats to the actors for "ruining their childhood." Neither approach is good, it's too extreme and everyone needs to chill out. I'm weirdly in the middle, I don't think what they're doing is bad, I just don't think it's true to the spirit of original Monster High (and by proxy, it's not really for me), it's a new vision that should be called something else, because it IS something else. It has a right to exist and be whatever it's gonna be, but it should have been a true next gen/new series instead of a rework of the old, so it could have its own identity without controversy. I'm just so exhausted, never in my life have I wanted Monster High to NOT pop up on my feed, but here we are. I haven't had to deal with this feeling of not being allowed to love something since Sonic Forces got announced and everyone hated it without even playing it. That was such a dark time in my life with all this other bad stuff happening, and feeling that level of fandom extremism with all these garbage hot takes just brings back these awful memories that I want to forget. I just want to go love the original in my own little corner, go watch Frights Camera Action with a cheesy grin on my face and not hear about the new stuff, not have everyone posting about every new leak and giving their two cents. I don't care what any of you think, negative or positive, I don't need your opinions on every little thing. I shouldn't have to turn off Instagram when I want to share my doll art there, but at this point, I kind of have to. That's my real gripe, if they had just made this separate no one would feel obligated to care and it wouldn't be causing a great divide. Instead fans of Gen 1 and Gen 3 are just bullying each other and it sucks. This is the exact opposite of what MH was about.
They took Claudine’s confidence, and they took away my blonde Australian fish other than that I like the character designs I like how they made Cleo a bit darker I feel like it’s suits what she’s supposed to be do you know what a Gyptian princess

I agree however I'm very sad about toralie because they made her an elite when she had this amazing 'ally cat' vibe that made her stand out, the fact they changed the thing that made her unique and made her personality make sense makes me sad
I'm mostly excited about Frankie now being a nonbinary character. Frankie was my favourite character in Monster High growing up and it's kind of funny this happened around the time that I am solidifying my identity as genderfluid. It's sort of comforting to me, if that makes sense. Reserving my other judgements until I see how they do with the movie and series.
me and u are going through such similar experiences i guess.i am excited too, frankie was my favorite character.and them being non-binary just when i have started to get comfortable with me being gender fluid. it feels so good.especially because frankie has androgynous feature but wear more feminine clothing.just like me.it’s good to see a character who is non-binary wear more feminine clothing which helps get rid of a lot of stereotypes people have
I don't know the accuracy of this but there is a rumor on the Monster High subreddit that there are two animated series being produced. One for the older OG fans that is a revival of the 1st generation and one based off the new movie that is for younger fans thatis gen 3. Like I said I don't know the accuracy of these rumors so if it's been confirmed or denied... I don't know.
Heath's new design is my new sleep paralysis demon 💀 And Lagoona. BLUE is in her name. Why did they change her 😭 I love Draculaura's design though. I definitely want to get her in doll version. Frankie and Clawdeen's designs don't bother me as much though.
I just dont get why they casted two light skinned women to play clawdeen and cleo despite the fact their cartoon verison showed both are darkskinned, even the orignal had clawdeen have darkskin Also tbh-the trailer just made it more avadent frankie should have been the new student not clawdeen, it makes more sense with how they made their character Edit: correction, clawdeen is more brownskinned but honestly my point still stands
@@finland4ever55 mia is a lightskinned woman , shes simply on the darker side of lightskinned, just cause shes not pale doesnt make her darkskinned, she still doesnt match clawdeen’s skin tone, it wont matter if it was voice acting as you cant see the actor but here its live actions-the actors need to actually resemable the characters esp when said character is part of a marginalized group And yes im aware in the orignal cleo is tanned, but in the new verison shes petroyed as darkskinned which makes the actress they picked for her make less sense

And I'm a dark skinned girl myself, so I can tell she's not super dark. Some pictures you see of her are tinted, but if you buy a doll or watch the cartoon she's not very dark. The new one, she's actually dark.

What did they do to my girls Clawdeen and Draculara?!😭The redesigns are getting farther and farther from what they were originally, also bring back Clawd to be with Draculara.
It's mostly because Frankie is made of body parts from different people, so it makes sense for them to be nonbinary. The actor also being enby is a nice bonus.
honestly i think that Frankie being non binary makes sense bc they're made of different parts edit: I really like Frankie being canonically non binary but after I wrote this comment I couldn't help myself from thinking that maybe this is their (the creators of this movie and reebot) to make us forget that they disrespected Clawdeen sexuality 🤨
Yea! I have a theory about her new biography! In her Bio it says that her parents are scientists. I believe they are actually descendants of Victor Frankenstein! And that's why they created the frenkie!
The creators had the perfect chance for the Clawdeen X Draculaura’s best friends to lovers ship by removing Clawd… but the fact that they turned Clawdeen into the new quirky nerd girl canceled out the tension that the origional series had (I would have related to that so bad)
IMPORTANT EDIT: Sorry! I was wrong in this comment, Cleo's actress (Jy Prishkulnik) is actually mexican and not white. I should've done my research but I trusted the person who told me she was white. I'm keeping this comment up with this warning instead of removing it so anyone who's replied or sees it in the future knows that this isn't true. Stay safe, and do your research kids :) Live Action Cleo looked okay to me as well... then I found out they cast a white woman for her 🙄 AND they cast a light-medium skin woman as clawdeen when she should be medium-dark skinned
weirdly enough the animated series looks way more appealing and the skin tones are fine. so, i don’t know what’s going on there. well i do, it’s colorism. i don’t know if the series and the movie are casted by different people but it seems so.
If there was an Arabic actor that did Cleo, I'd be fine with that and this isn't a case where I'm attacking the actors... They're just doing their jobs
If Frankie is blue now, why not make Lagoona green? Light greens and blues are pretty interchangeable (to the point I didn't noticed the change in Frankie until you pointed it out) so it wouldn't have deviated too much from the og design
Y'see, drastic personality changes is SUPER common for toy-based franchises when they do reboots, because when making a new character; they need to pay licencing fees for that character's name so they can be sold. It's much cheaper and easier to just slap an existing licenced name onto a completely different character than to licence a new one (ex: My Little Pony). Consider these characters as separate from the originals, because that's what they are, they are different characters that just so happen to share a name and likeness because it saves money. It will make you less angry in the long run.
The thing that gets me is that they painted the actor who plays Clawdeen darker to match the character better and it's known that the director is very racist towards Natives. So they made Frankie non-binary (which is cool and makes sense for the character) but they made Clawdeen straight when it has been confirmed by the creators that she is a lesbian. Another thing that just bugs me is that they made Ghoulia verbal and not nonverbal like she was one of the few non verbal characters in media when we were growing up in they just ruined it. It's just the writing makes no sense for any of the characters.
@@kateross2424 Garret Sanders, the creator of MH said he likes the headcanon and that was good enough for him. No one in mattel intended her to be a lesbian, it was only Garret saying he's ok with it on instagram. Also they didnt paint Clawdeen's actress to appear darker. . . thats just a rumor to fuel the fire.
Remember Dracula's "vampire powers"? Is her being into witchcraft supposed to be a better solution to the vampire powers? Cause I liked them, they grew with her, like when she turned 1600 and could turn into a bat!
The movie looks like it’s made on a $5 budget, but at least they made an effort to make the characters look like the characters (aside from Lagoona and Deuce). It looks better than the Winx Club Live Action Adaptation on Netflix despite the latter having a bigger budget. The pictures of the dolls are actually prototypes. The final designs of the dolls will look like what they are in the new cartoon albeit with more details to them.
Lagoona was really meaningful for afabs who felt pigeonholed into pink, pink, and more pink, so the fact that she got absorbed into the pinksphere is like... really lame
Even the second gen still has some of the old vibes
@@laraprisma6381 who said, specifically, 'lara nomy cared only about the edge of monster high' like i think i missed that part

Genuine messages and stories are secondary.
@@laraprisma6381 that is true, but they where talking about what pulled them into the show initially and not what the show thought them.
Her parasol was such an iconic staple to her accessories I always loved it to death hehe:3 I love her hat it’s very cute too
I think this could be done to make the character “less violent”, as vampires usually drink blood.

The problem I have with the Sorceress thing with Draculaura, is that they say that witchcraft is looked down upon by monsters because humans did it or whatever. But literally humans burned/drowned witches for doing magic 😐
Also in the original Monster High, there was a witch. Yall remember Casta?
I'm not mad that Draculaura is looking into witchcraft, but they could at least make the reasoning behind why witchcraft is looked down upon make sense.
Not to mention Cleo's many amulets which if the issue is magic would clash here too.
Thats exctaly what i thought-they want to make it more accraute to actual witches but just made it illogical and stupid😭 it would have made far more sense for monster high to be welcoming to witchcraft since like you said..its disowned by humans-on top of that monster high is all about being yourself
I swear Casta was a celebrity cameo, like lady Gaga was, and so the licensing is weird.

There is no reason they could give for why they changed the aesthetics that can’t be combated with: “But it worked great for the original.”
Come on, it’s literally called _Monster_ High.
even with the original series, monster high literally got crucified and torn apart by parents for being too “revealing”, “scary”, “edgy” (and others) for kids; they tried to work on this in the first reboot and took it even further this time. really unfortunate that they’re still trying to cling onto these age old critiques even though there’s a new generation of parents now and kids used to love it back then
It seems like kids horror in general has completely died, and this could’ve been a great opportunity for them to bring it back. It’s a real shame
@@laraprisma6381 i felt that they made the characters look a lot softer and less edgy in the previous reboot. also the quality of their dolls significantly decreased

I'm 14, my dad made me watch the oldest Monster High series, and I absolutely loved it, even as a kid.. I was like, 6/7 when I watched it.. and omg it's perfect
My problem with the latest monster high reboot wasn't the lack of "edgy-nes" but the story itself. And the word "edgy" to me is kind of cringe...-_-
Bro you’ve already been in other people’s comments about this.
It's basic, boring and something I can go to a mall and see in all mannequins
Since I'm absolutely not the audience they're aiming for, I'm not going to complain or anything. But I'll miss the amazing clothes
@@laraprisma6381 the “edgness” you claim is cringe is the entire monster high brand, “edgy” is just the word people use to describe altarnative culture

I love Dracularas design, it's so pretty but I'd personally spice some things up and make it at least have her touch. And also I don't know why they got rid of Frankie's bolts on her neck.
Exactly they changed Lagoona's personally and she looks nothing like herself so why didn't they just name this new character something else instead of ruin our Lagonna
ah yes the winx live action approach where they removed Flora (an already whitewashed character) with her white cousin
yesss i think I saw a clip on TikTok of Clawdeen and Deuce dancing and then stare at each other (the stare was kinda romantic) and I absolutely hated it bc they not only broke up one of the cutest couples Deuce and Cleo but also they didn't respect Clawdeen sexuality

THIS ☝☝
Can we talk about the animation character designs for a sec? Because, is it just me or they "disneyfied" the "good" characters, but left a little more edgy aspects to the "mean" ones. Take Chleo or Toraly for example. On purpose or not, it goes against everything Monster high stands for, and is subtly linking goth, punk or more "dark" fashion to being a bad person.
@@hafi3555 i didn’t even notice that and you’re so right
@@hafi3555 wow I hadn’t even noticed that but that just makes it even worse. Why can’t the girl have their edgy style while also being nice! Its not that hard! Just watch the monster high anime that’s the reboot we all need!!
It be believable if this was OG Clawdeen's relative or something, with the same name
@@wilsonweiseng6485 FR!!!! Like they could have just given this character to Howleen!!!
Understandable but Clawdeen her older sister has glasses in the canon so that can be explained as a family trait

To be fair Frankie did start off at 15 upon first release but it’s interesting to note with the others!!
Yeah they're into gradual development. Even by episode 7 of the show at the moment we can see Clawdeen IS developing into that self assured person she was in G1, but it's gonna take time since that's how they wanna tell their story.
The live-action Monsters High movie looks like Disney's ZOMBIES but has the level of campiness as Rob Zombie's _The Munsters._

In my opinion, they made her so cute.
@@laraprisma6381 I agree. Like I said, I think her design is alright, and it is overall well-designed, but it's not reminiscent of the previous designs at all except for general aquatic elements.
Edit: I almost forgot to mention, while I am expressing my doubts and general complaints, it doesn't mean I expect a trash reboot. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt despite my somewhat harsh crticisms. Also, I'm talking about reboot as a whole, not solely just the movie.

@@laraprisma6381 I agree. While I personally think it's alright to express complaints and criticisms, I personally don't believe in shutting something down before giving it a shot.
Copyright? So legally owning Frankie isn’t copyright? I’m confused
Monster high has always been for kids, I think it's my inner child, but I'm enjoying the designs of the new animated series!
It's not surprising they make children's media out of a children's toy line
@@laraprisma6381 Sure but you also want to consider the fandom, the older fans that has been keeping the brand alive for this long. They can't just depend on kids alone for the success of this reboot because if it doesn't go well with them then things will be in hot water.
@@thepinkestpigglet7529 That makes sense but why limit yourself when you could have a way wider audience?
Depending on how you interupt a vampire-they could still gain weight
I mean if monster high can have draculra be a vegatarian i dont see why not
Tho i do like the idea of clawdeen being chubby and still a fashion icon-i agree with you there
Draculara is a vegetarian and cant stand the sight or smell of blood.
so glad you said that about Deuce, that was literally my first thought on seeing his new design
Lagoona's design is my least favorite. The pink color scheme makes her blend in with the other pink characters, and the blue on her legs just looks tacked on. Also, they got rid of her webbed fingers, which were my favorite part of her old design!
Draculara is vegetarian
Thanks for sharing this is cool information.
@ann no problem.
I felt I need to explain a little bit more-
When we talk about commercial doll lines, the dolls take longer to make, so they are usually designed first.
@@MsSumoon you best know they're just gonna mash up a bunch of latin american cultures, i mean it looks like it's gonna be very cheap so far so..

Agreed. A new non binary character would be awesome, but pushing it on Frankie felt so forceddd... and I cringed when I heard the pronoun introduction just cuz it made it worse. there’s no such thing as forced diversity. it wasn’t forced. they just changed the pronouns of the character, not a big deal. it doesn’t change anything about the story or their design so why do you care.

Which is remastering a well-loved series but completely dumbing it down and lowering the quality and making it for very young kids under 10 instead of appealing to tweens or teens or even the adult fans who have nostalgia for it. It really looks like that is the case for both the animated and the live-action version
At least with teen titans go its not as bad because its based on a franchize that always changes in every adaption

I finally figure out why Draculaura new desing and story seems familiar:
THE BRATZILLAS!!!

I think the only characters that are the closest to the same all around are Cleo and Deuce.
lagoona be looking like that girl who only shopped at claire’s
She gives Jojo Siwa vibe to me
I wonder if the Clawdeen change is because they heard that there is a need for more nerdy-adjacent black female characters, since the fierce/independent thing has become pretty common and they wanted to try something new.
Draculaura finally has powers besides being small and , in the last reboot, turn into a bat, so yay i guess?
Fr
I love it, but it doesn’t really make sense to me that they would know and understand what pronouns are, but not have any idea what a hugh-five is. Maybe they should’ve gone with a different gag
At the end of the day though I think kids will like it though
I actually like sorceress Draculaura because modern media tends to forget in older vampire lore and literature vampires are in fact spell casters
They can also animal shift, enchant(mind control), necromance, summon flame to name a few depending on the story
So draculaura being able to do magic makes her feel old school monster instead of trendy new age vampire and I'm kind of here for it 👍
i just want to know why witchcraft is taboo in the monster world
As soon as they broke out into song and dance (on top of it being live action) my excitement rapidly went from 100 to 0
The best way I would describe G3's designs is that they took all the bite out of Monster High. It's not really giving anything more than the bare minimum and that's a damn shame.
Amen!

Oh well, at least the Draculaura doll looks right...wonder how posable the new dolls are going to be
Dude this is my childhood and I love just throwing love at it and watching it be torn apart and ruined and then still throwing love at it and it being tarnished once more
I can see decent enough logic for Draculaura being into witchcraft and sorcery: her dad's a count, she's got money to invest in random hobbies

The reason why Frankie is non binary is because the actor who plays them is non binary. Its a neat change.
Iirc Cece was ok with playing Frankie as a girl? I think they're embracing diversity more
It's mostly because Frankie is made of body parts from different people, so it makes sense for them to be nonbinary. The actor also being enby is a nice bonus.

Also hope you and your partner had fun!
