    Wow, so glad I discovered this series. An amateur newbie who "played" GarageBand synths on a laptop, I decided to go out the door into the real world with a Monologue and upon plugging it in thought, where am I and what have I gotten myself into? Your vids are helping to make shapes and sense out of the white noise haze of confusion! Many, many thanks!

    2:49 in the global menu under the first button there is a global transpose -12 to +12 that won't transpose all presets but will allow you to go lower or higher on the keyboard. And in the Program Edit menu under the third button is an additional -12 to +12 transpose that is tied to the preset. That's -24 to +24 already that already takes us to clicks on all waveforms and then there's pitch bend if you would need to take the range to -36 to +36. And yet there's the pitch knob for VCO 2, so it's not limited in range at all :)

    I just noticed the oscilloscope window does not reflect the octave changes on the shape of the waves. The width of the wave stay the same rather that getting wider when you lower and closer when you go higher. Does the minilogue do that? I guess it doesn't actively monitor the wave shape?
    At any rate it's a cool little mini synth.

    For Nine Inch Nails type synth, would this or the Arturia Microbrute be better overall? I love the look of the Monologue, looks like a much better interface than the Microbrute but the Micro does have the "brute" setting which might distort it a bit which seems like a good addition. What are the pros and cons of each?

    When knob Master Volume in my Monologue is in position "zero", I still hear silent sounds in headphones (in output too) when I play on keys. Is it normal thing? Can I do something with it? I'd rather hear total silence when Master knob is off.

    • @epicon6

      It's not an absolute zero/off. Depends on what settings you have. You shouldn't hear anything if both of oscillator volumes are all the way down and no resonance

    • @automaticgainsay
      @automaticgainsay  5 років тому +9

      Thank you! And shouldn't you be more concerned about whether Korg paid me for about 80 hours of my substantial experience, my educational skill, my creation of a curriculum for this device, my planning about how shooting the video should occur, my actual shooting of hours of video whilst employing my presentational skill and plan for demonstration, the editing of hours of footage to create these videos, the still photography of the unit, the hours of editing video and animation for the bumpers, the composition of a theme that is comprised entirely of multitracking a monophonic instrument against drums, and then the promotion of this product on an Internet platform that has demonstrated substantial success in promoting, educating people about, and literally selling synthesizers (which is to say that posting these things on Automatic Gainsay has substantial value for companies)?
      After all that, you're worried about whether I got to keep a synthesizer that it probably cost Korg about $150.00 to make? Even if I charged $15 an hour (minimum wage in some places in the US), the amount of money, time, and value invested in this series of videos so vastly exceeds the cost of a Monologue (wholesale OR retail) that whether or not I got to keep the unit should be immaterial.
      But I'll say what I've always said... which I don't even have to say... I get NO FINANCIAL RECOMPENSE for any of my efforts on Automatic Gainsay. I am not a paid employee of these companies. I do not work for these companies. I am not paid by these companies. Increasingly often, though, as a token gift of gratitude from these companies, I am given the unit that I demonstrated.
      So, for those who think "he's just saying nice things about these units so that the company will give them to him," you don't know shit about how much time, effort, and expertise goes into making these videos... and shame on you for your ignorance. I don't need to spend the amount of effort I do for series like this JUST TO GET A $300 SYNTH for the love of God. I'm an adult with a full time job, and forking out that relatively small amount of money is about a BILLION TIMES easier than making these videos for people.
      So, you (all of you, not vitaklon specifically) will forgive me if I don't waste any time at all making sure you know whether or not a company gave me a synth or not.

      I wouldn't, because they both do different things. I love the MicroBrute for its unique sound and functionality. The Monologue does have two oscillators, but what it comes down to is your connection to the sound of functionality of both. I'd say you should test drive them!

    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 6 років тому +3

      Chuck Rios I know less than Marc Doty but I’ve owned both synths and he’s right. Each have different features and their own unique sound. I prefer the Microbrute for sound by a very thin margin, but I kept the Monologue for the waveshaping, 2nd oscillator, the awesome sequencer, and it’s connect-ability to my other gear.

      Depends what your LFO is set to and if you have both oscillators on that cause them to phase over. Try an init patch and it should't do that and then it's just getting to know what effects what from there

    i really don`t get why it doesn`t have CV out and things like that. I mean even the Microbrute has some kind of patching functionality. Can you sequence-trigger an analog synth without using Midi? Such as Dreadbox Erebus, Doepfer Dark Energy ? ps: and for Gods sake Korg. Put a freaking Hold-Key-Latch whatever button somewhere!

    • @saardean4481

      1) The Latch only works for the Arpeggiator i am talking about HOLD or LATCH of any key you push as found on the Bass Station 2 for example. 2) Minilogue doesn`t have CV out. Only "Volca signal" out

    • @gordonbennett7931

    Only i think - why most of hardware companies do a bet on Mono sounds? When everyone trying to find something new, mix all and etc..software synths doing a really new cool products but hardware synths like rested do a bet on Mono) For whom? I think it's a big mistake of them that will finally crash a hardware bussnes in a soon time.

    • @automaticgainsay
      @automaticgainsay  7 років тому +4

      Why is it so important to you that a synthesizer play multiple iterations of the same waveform at the same octave when you play multiple notes? Monophonic synthesizers behave differently than polyphonic synthesizers. If you think monophonics are "limited" by not playing multiple notes simultaneously, you're missing the point of monophonics.

    • @epicon6
      @epicon6 3 роки тому +2

      Mono synths are great. And popular. And Korg doesn't bet on mono, they also sell the Minilogue, Minilogue XD, Prologue 8, Prologue 16, even Volca Keys

    Korg will do fine once it stops making those stupid mini keyboards. I've just ordered the full sized ARP Odyssey FS (Full size keys) and if they do the same with the MS20 and the Korg (mini/monologue), I'll buy them too. those mini keys are just not playable.

    • @Deeplycloseted435
      @Deeplycloseted435 6 років тому

      Skinny Bob it does kind of suck for us keyboard players. I just can’t understand the asking price for the full-size Odyssey. Its literally almost double the 86% size version. Why? I just bought the desktop and use other keyboards to control it. I reeeaaaallllly like the sound of the Karp. I only wish it had full modern MIDI CC. I do a lot of evolving bass and lead sounds, and like to automate several parameters at once during recording. I only have two hands.

      Kevin Harris KORG makes full size replicas for collectors and who really want an original size synth with higher built quality. All full size synths are actually prices just right. It's the mini versions that are made cheap so that the regular joe can get into analog synthesis and other than the switchable filters the Minis sound just the same so they really are great value. If anyone really really wants them original size they can. They are re-releasing the MS-20 again in full size and it is again in limited amounts.
      They don't/won't make a full size Minilogue but then get the Minilogue XD Module version and play it with your favorite full size kayboard controller
