    I know it's 3 years later but you made my choice much easier: Korg Monologue. I was trying to choose between this and Bass Station, but for my budget Korg will be more than enough, due to the way how sequencer works in this synth. This is what I want, this is what I'll get :-)

    I dunno if someone's mentioned it in the comments, but one nice thing you can do with the motion sequencer on the monologue but not the minilogue is editing parameters for each step. If you hold down one or more step buttons while in motion record mode, you can turn a knob/flip a switch/etc and it will save that parameter for those steps. Which makes it a lot easier to do things like percussion and whatever.

      *addictive to explore in general. That said, I find "straightforward" sequencers useful for sound design and I get more out of this one than most. Other sequencers offer more features but tend beg the question, why so limited? Thirty years down the line from my first hardware drum machine, I miss pattern chaining--but not in the Monologue. Well done Tatsuya, et al., and thanks as always Marc.

    This little monster is definitely a lot of fun ,since I don't use a Daw to control or orchestrate but rather do it all on hardware in real time I just keep layering my sequences on both a kp3+ and a kaosillator pro+ .Some evolve into new sequences and others just ebb off.I was very close to buying the MicroBrute and still like that little blender but this interface is just so smooth.

    One thing about the Monologue sequencer that is lacking is that it has no 'velocity' level. I can get a really good 'I feel love' sequence but without velocity it isn't quite right. It's a great all round synth though. When you spend a bit of time with it you soon learn how to emulate sounds. It becomes instinctive. like if you want a church bell, you know how to get it. I love the fact it runs on batteries and is small enough to put in a laptop bag. Great for when you have to visit the mother in law for a weekend.

    How would you edit a single note step on the minilogue though like this? because it only has 8 buttons that repeat twice for the full 16? How do you choose which note you are replacing? This one is easier because it shows all 16 buttons.

    Marc ,I know there are dozens of videos on the microKorg but everything Available has been incomplete or rather clumsy.Its a classic that's part of most synth fans collection but doesn't see its full potential due to its unorthodox interface( turn a knob here ,get out bifocals and check matrix).Your eloquent tutorials would due that little powerhouse the justice it deserves.

  • @a_nick_t
    @a_nick_t 7 років тому +6

    Nice job Marc - as usual! One thing I don't like about the Monologue (about the only thing) is that when you are in Key Trig/Hold mode, every time you hit a key the sequence resets to the first note. It makes it difficult to get exact transitions every time. It would be nice if it didn't change the transposition of the sequence until it played through the current sequence transposition. Maybe Korg can update that.

    • @LongFallBoots

    • @a_nick_t
      @a_nick_t 7 років тому

      True but I want it trigger "properly" when using the keyboard. The re-trigger mode has its uses but I would also like it to change "on the one" or whenever I press a key without going back to the first step like it does now.

    Can I use my monologue sequencer on my MS-20 mini via midi?

      Yes you should be able too. I've used the sequencer on a Minibrute and an Akai Rhythm Wolf with an MS-20. I do highly recommend the Korg SQ10 sequencer if you come across one. The MS-20 with one of those is a very cool thing.

    I own a minilogue xd. I see so many people talking about how much they love the sequencers in the monologue/ minilogue/minilogue xd. I have never understood how it could be so powerful with only 16 steps. Thats like 2 seconds. I just wish it had 32 steps or more. Does anyone else find the 16 steps very difficult?

      Half time the tempo and add change divisions

      @@Neuri it’s still only 16 notes though. If you want an 8 bar loop that’s only 2 notes per bar and there’s no freedom to move them off that 16 note grid
